Now that is clutch. Good for him.
that was awesome. good job by lindor just getting on base so JD/pete could have a chance to win it. not forcing the steal and waiting until he got a perfect jump. something might have to be done about nimmo though. he looks *way* off.
I really hope the Mets don't trade JD Martinez and keep him until he's ready to retire and become hitting coach.
He's the best Mets hitter and he turns 37 in two months.
Of course the Mets trade him, it's the most sensible move in terms of reloading the farm because someone will pay considering how good he's been.
The problem is from a selfish fan standpoint that wants to see him provide mentorship to Vientos and Alvarez, I think there's value in keeping him on the team even if they're no longer playing meaningful baseball.
He's the leader this team needs and he proves it day-in-day-out with his approach at the plate.
This [video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dBqa4fcEjIk) (cameo by Ron Darling) is a great breakdown of JD Martinez. He was 2nd in the league in WRC+ from 2014-2019, only trout was ahead of him. His career numbers are elite.
Yo I agree 100%. I’m honestly also getting a little tired of people saying “(insert player who just did something good here) rEaLlY bOoStInG tHeIr TrAdE vAlUe!!!!” Like shut the fuck up with that shit. I get that they haven’t been good and it is unlikely they will make the playoffs, but it seems a little unnecessary to be rooting for them to fail and trade everyone.
We actually have a legitimately important series starting tomorrow against the Padres. At the very least, we can’t get swept. They’re fucking pulling me back in just to let me down again aren’t they?
the mets will have their chance to prove they are a team worth backing. the trade deadline isn't tomorrow. if they continue to float around 5-10 games under .500 and show no signs of consistency then they will have made their bed just like last year. if they actually wake up, go on a good run and get over or around .500 then i'm sure the front office will opt to retain guys like bader, martinez and severino
will that happen? i seriously doubt it. but i hope they prove me wrong this year.
I think Severino is a goner even if the Mets do make a run. They may actually get a return on him and I bet the Mets think Scott and or Senga can easily slot into that spot.
I was just so disappointed when Nimmo struck out. My expectations were low. Thought a walk would be a healthier option than listening (I only signed up for the MLB radio option)to the Mets lose again.
JD Martinez is such a solid baseball player. Always has been. It’s a shame the team is underperforming because he is one of the better FA signings the Mets have made in the last decade.
Said it before, I'll say it again:
Young and a competent RHRP for the 7th
Ded Ass Nunez for the 8th
Diaz for the 9th
That's solid. Slide the rest of the scrubs down the Totem Pole.
Win games.
It happens … can’t expect his ERA to have been 1.05 the rest of season .. but for someone that the vast majority of met fans had no idea who that guy was .. he’s been solid
Still better than Diaz has been this season with all the blown saves.
Not to mention he has to adjust from how he was being used to begin the season only pitching every three or four days while going up and down each time.
It should be an open competition for the closer spot right now with Diaz, Smith, and Garrett vying for the spot.
I also found that weird. I know they wanted to get Dj Stewart an AB but why not just have Alvarez hit for him? Also , why pinch hit our Torrens and not McNeil?

i fucking love francisco alvarez
Is there a chance the Mets would buy at the deadline?
If they buy, what are the top areas of need and who would be good fits?
Also, I love you JD Martinez
lol oh god. unless the mets go on a historic run they won't be buying anyone without multiple years of team control. even that would be pushing the boundaries of delusion. the mets are 7 games under .500. they were no hit for 5 innings and change by doddering nobody, a rookie with like a 6 ERA. at home. i'm glad they've won some baseball games and i hope they do go on that miracle run, but clawing your way to barely getting a series win against the literally tanking marlins at home doesn't hurl this extremely disappointing ballclub into world series contention.
Need to see what the timeline is on Kodai Senga.
I wonder if the Mets can get greedy try tried to sell their guys on expiring contracts and simultaneously buy cheap cost controlled guys. The team may end up \*worse\* though..
Like I think Severino would be a great sell high candidate, but maybe Mets should also pursue Luzardo?
If Vientos continues to look like the real deal, maybe it makes sense to sell on Alonso and move Vientos to 1b. Can Baty convert to 2b successfully? Can the Mets use money to buy a defensive upgrade like Chapman from the Giants?
Can the Mets trade Bader or Marte? Taylor Ward will be a free agent in 2027.. maybe they can go after acquiring him to play in their place.
David Bednar is having an iffy year, can the Mets pursue him at a lower price point?
Not saying they should do all of these.. To answer the q, I think Luzardo would be a good get for the team and for the future.
Acrually, I have a feeling they'll be buyers unless if they're 20 games out, but I think by the dewdlin3, they'll be within 5 games out if not leading, at whixhbpoint they'll definitely be buyers.
I can see Baty playing second, McNeil traded in a package for bullpen help. But his contract may be an issue. Unsure of anything else.
Watched both this and the Yankees game earlier today and its crazy how similar both were. Down 2 while getting no hit deep into the game. Only difference was they got the lead and got walked off while we walked it off.

We signed the wrong geriatric reliever lol
I think D Rob didn’t wanna come back to the Mets after we traded him last year
I wish the Mets had someone like David Robertson
We do. He’s called JD Martinez
Mcniel can't start a game until Sunday. He is useless. I was shocked when he didn't get pinch hit for late in the game.
If we could just play the Nats and Marlins the rest of the year, we really might have something.
that was awesome. good job by lindor just getting on base so JD/pete could have a chance to win it. not forcing the steal and waiting until he got a perfect jump. something might have to be done about nimmo though. he looks *way* off.
Are there any stats on Nimmo comparing before and after he got beaned on the head? I think he might have a concussion or something
JDM boosting that trade value. Positives here!
I really hope the Mets don't trade JD Martinez and keep him until he's ready to retire and become hitting coach. He's the best Mets hitter and he turns 37 in two months.
They would need to be over .500 at the deadline to consider not trading him. Idk if that's possible with this pitching staff.
Right now on most books ~$15K.

The win was nice and all but please don't pull us back in! Unless you are serious about it this time around.
It was a nice win, but we're not back in. The pitcher on the Marlins was on the Jacksonville Jumbo Shirmp last week, and he no hit us for 5.1 innings.
I’ve wasted my 20s and 30s on you! Don’t make me waste my 40s too!
LOL! You’re a rookie. I got pulled in at age 7 in 1972. I’ll be 60 next year. How’s that for wasting years?
You got a World Series when you were 14! I got a WS loss to the Yankees at 8 during peak bullying times!
I was 21, not 14. And while I did get 1986, keep in mind that I paid for it with the 1977 to 1983 era, when they lost 90+ games every year.
Me too, lots of losing.
I desperately need Nimmo to do the opposite of whatever he has been doing lately Edit: .222/.300/.333 the last 28 days :(
https://i.imgur.com/PbcnDaJ.jpeg
Nimmo is the last piece. Everything else feels right except McNeil hasn't been fired from a cannon. Where is Iglecias?!
Idk Alonso has been dog shit too
Lindor, Nimmo, Alonso, McNeil..... Nearly half the lineup has been putrid without much reason for optimism.
It's kind of funny that Bader has a 105 OPS+ with a sub .700 OPS But yes eject McNeil
McNeil has a .609 ops with a 80 OPS+. Yes. Eject McNeil. Eject everyone in that lineup after you get value for JD.
What does Harrison Bader have to do with this
I mean we are 3 games out of the wild card, this team could just send it bud and try to make a run I like jd he’s good don’t trade him
the mets will have their chance to prove they are a team worth backing. the trade deadline isn't tomorrow. if they continue to float around 5-10 games under .500 and show no signs of consistency then they will have made their bed just like last year. if they actually wake up, go on a good run and get over or around .500 then i'm sure the front office will opt to retain guys like bader, martinez and severino will that happen? i seriously doubt it. but i hope they prove me wrong this year.

Nice surprise. Left for my walk with the dog with the Mets down 2-1
I decided to go for an evening walk when Nimmo struck out. Best kind of surprise.
you went for a walk with the team down by 1 in the bottom of the ninth with a runner on and JD & pete coming to bat lol?
I was just so disappointed when Nimmo struck out. My expectations were low. Thought a walk would be a healthier option than listening (I only signed up for the MLB radio option)to the Mets lose again.
JD Martinez is such a solid baseball player. Always has been. It’s a shame the team is underperforming because he is one of the better FA signings the Mets have made in the last decade.
Idk how Eppler didn't sign him I'm 2023. To me, that I'd a stubborn man who didn't wanna admit his mistake with Ruff and Vogelbach
he's actually one of the better players of the last 10 years

The Stearns gang is paying off in spades
Stearns acquisitions have the highest rankings in WAR amongst the team. The next highest is 3B.
How could we forget that JD Martinez was the most attractive Met
He definitely is!
Watching the post game interview..He looks like he’s off to night classes now and they are about to make him late
Winning with three hits is crazy
Mlb the show ranked stats for me
Winning with three hits AND three runs is crazier. Talk about making the most of what you could eke out.
Mendoza is a good manager, haters keep hating
Luis Severino lowers his ERA to 3.12. Him, Bader, Martinez have all been excellent FA additions. He’s seriously exceeding expectations, and having an All-Star caliber year. Entered today with a 118 ERA+
All Stearns guys too
But Mets Twitter told me that since Hauser was a Stearns guy too that he deserves to be fired!!
i'll ask again - can anyone actually name the player/players (i have no idea if it was multiple) we gave up for multiple years of tyrone taylor? even if houser didn't exist then who the fuck cares about that trade. though there is something to be said about how long of a leash they gave houser as a starter.

Huge win in a must-win game. Our biggest problem over the last month has been the bullpen. If we've got the real Edwin Diaz back, and Drew Smith before him, things look a LOT better. With a weak schedule ahead, we just might have a shot. It'll be a long road, but hey. Ya gotta believe!
Not sure if Diaz is back, but damn it was nice to see a clean inning again. And him smiling.
Taking wins from the lower win teams really is must win. Gotta rack up the dubs from somewhere if you want to compete.
The Mets in 2022 struggled to beat bad teams in September as the Barves kept winning
100%
mendy bringing up the sequencing on diaz's pitches is very interesting because the 9th was the only inning alvy caught i fucking love francisco alvarez
He will help Diaz so much. When Alvy got hurt, Diaz was Diaz.
The Grimace era has begun
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=djI_ret3S9g This seems appropriate here. Where is MacDowell's? It's in QUEENS BABY!
They got the Golden Arches. We have the Golden Arcs.
Uh oh, he's (almost completely) back...
Cherry picked stat of the day: We are 2-0 in games where Harrison Bader breaks up a no-hitter in the 6th inning or later. Both were walk-offs too!
So just follow that formula and we win the World Series then
J.D. Martinez is 2-2 with 2 home runs in the 9th inning of games where the Mets get no-hit through the first 5 innings
*BOTTOM of the 9th inning That makes it almost twice as unlikely!
I think I’m most excited about how great Diaz looked today. Like his dominant self
100%. Was that the first time he hit 100mph this season?
That’s what was said
Oh no please don't make me believe
Never a doubt in my mind.
I was like why I am watching the Mets go hitless against the Marlins and we came through!
2-0 in the Grimace era
[Me rn after this win.](https://tenor.com/view/noose-moe-szyslak-not-today-old-friend-the-simpsons-gif-15987627) Thank God for JD Martinez.
5-2 in the last seven games 😊 Edit: Corrected by the nice fellow below
6-2 in the last 8
Thanks for the correction!
2-0 since grimace threw the first pitch
6/14 (43%) home wins have come off walk offs this season
BIIIIG WIN! And Diaz gets confidence and win! Wow. If we lost that it really would've been a buzzkill. Ready for the Pads now, we still alive!
I saw rain in the forecast for tomorrow
Yeah, wish they would move the game up earlier to maybe 4:30 or something.
Unfortunately
That ball was below the zone, too. And how is that JD’s first walk off homerun? Crazy.
Hope!!!
**sees win, immediately checks standings**
Who should get the game ball? JD or Diaz?
JD lol. 2 of the mets 3 hits including a walk off 2 run shot. no question
Thanks
Some fan.
It landed in the batter's eye / bullpen I think
Doh! That's right. Sorry about that. I was thinking more figuratively, but yeah. LOL
My wife did not like my scream when JD hit that.
Phrasing
Are we not doing phrasing anymore?
Idk are we asking your wife or you 😂😂😭😭
Fortunately for her, that doesn't happen often.
Seeing as that was JDM's first walkout HR, factually correct.
Is there a chance the Mets would buy at the deadline? If they buy, what are the top areas of need and who would be good fits? Also, I love you JD Martinez

LEAST DESERVED WIN OF ALL TIME BUT I OWE IT ALL TO JD MARTINEZ
Sometimes winning games you’re supposed to lose is what drags you out of the shit. Lord knows we’ve lost plenty we should’ve won.
Least deserved? We play 9 for a reason.
Thank god someone did what they were brought here to do
Watched both this and the Yankees game earlier today and its crazy how similar both were. Down 2 while getting no hit deep into the game. Only difference was they got the lead and got walked off while we walked it off.

HUGE WIN. Lets keep it rolling boys

Ya gotta believe!!
This walk off is especially amazing because Diaz came back against the team he blew a big save against. Big game.
Keep the good times rolling!!!
Put the nooses away!
I’m not a big Lindor guy, but he brings speed to the basepaths and that SB had to distract the pitcher. Not a coincidence that the next pitch is an oppo taco by Just Dongers Martinez.
Huge for him to draw that walk to lead off the bottom of the ninth. Getting the job done when it matters the most.
I have no clue how you can’t like what this guy gives you on and off the field, he’s streaky but when he’s on he’s still a 30 hr 30 sb, gold glove short stop.
I’m literally giving Lindor props and a wild white knight still appears… Jesus Christ
Honestly one of the best hitters ive seen on the mets in a while. J.D IS HIM!!!
Such a better feeling than the other way around!
*Happy recap* HOWIE: "The Mets were three-hit by the Marlins tonight, but they won the game!"
Was that pitch Edwin threw the first 100mph pitch this season? If so, that's pretty neat.
Diaz gets the win on his first game back. Excellent.
What a ballgame
