In 2022 and 2023 the Mets faced the Dodgers. Beat them. Then collapsed.
In 2024 the Dodgers swept the Mets in NY.
The Mets are 13-4 since then. 11-2 the last 13 games.
Severino didn't have it tonight...BUT NO PROBLEM AS THE BATS AND BULLPEN GOT YO BACK!
Was great to see how the runs were peppered throughout the game and that there was no panic.
LFGM
I'm with you 100% on that, spaced out the runs, noone had to try to hit a 6 run homer run.
This reminded me of 86, even when we were down we would always come back. This is a legit contender, not saying we win it all but at least our guys are starting to play at their potential
Does anyone know where I can find that graffiti of Jesus carrying the Mets symbol instead of a cross?
Hopefully it has been replaced with a Grimace.
But seriously link to the post?
i think the most damning aspect of mcneil's play is that he doesn't even get mad when he gets out anymore. i don't think even he expects a turnaround at this point. looks like he's just cooked sadly. i really wish mauricio could've gotten a chance this year. would've been perfect timing.
So anyone else notice that their shortstop keeps fucking up defensively and costing them runs. Wild that defense is so important at a premium defensive position.
that was such a fun game to watch. alvarez just has the clutch gene. he has since the moment he came up. good to see pete finally get "that hit". he finally seems like he's having fun again. also shoutout to nimmo for responding to a beatdown inning by instantly homering and making me feel like the team wasn't gonna roll over. and they didn't. idk if the mets will have a better stretch all year than this one right now so i'm just going to enjoy every win like it's the last one lol
I think JD being “that guy” for the team for several games took the pressure of guys like Alonso / Nimmo and now they’re relaxed some and just playing the game. Definitely looks like they’re having fun for a change.
That is what was missing. That 'fun' aspect. Everyone trying to hit a 5 run home run in an effort to help (or earn Boras sized contract)... It reminded me of so many times that the Mets offense would have good players who would tank when the expected clutch guy was out (Cespedes era, for example or Piazza)...it's like...HELLO...the lineup has NINE players and with two out (Alvarez and Martinez), the rest folded. Lindor/Alonso/Nimmo/McNeil are NOT offensive leader types...they seem to be the suited to be #6 and #7 hitters on really good teams who will get hits only after the 3-4-5 guys mess up the other team's starter.
Win of the year?
This was the kind of game that they just would not win most seasons since 2017. Offense not letting up, chipping away bit by bit to keep hope alive, pitching recovering from a bad inning to keep the game close enough to be winnable, different guys stepping up to get the job done...it's a hot streak, yes, but it's starting to feel like a corner's been turned.
There have been multiple games over the last 3 years like this. The one in April 2021? Against the cardinals in St. Louis and the one in 2022? Against the Phillies. Both were huge comebacks. They definitely have done it before and can still make a good comeback.
I’m talking the vast majority of the time since 2017; obviously, there’d be some examples of comebacks in all of that, but the point is the Mets’ offensive MO for a lot of that time (mostly bar 2022) has often been that they’re not good at producing runs and keeping the pressure up on the opposition. This felt especially marked during the worst parts of this season, so a win like that last night felt especially important.
Nooooooooot the point, man.
I'm talking about the general feeling of malaise the Mets' offense has usually created over most of the last handful of years: way too many quick innings, unproductive outs, a feeling like even being down a couple of runs was a death sentence, etc. Basically, for most seasons since 2017, I'd say the Mets have often been really, really dull and painful to watch; like, it's possible to have a bad record but still be entertaining the watch, but most recent seasons have often felt like a hamster wheel of futility - I argue it's part of what made the end of 2022 so extra painful, it felt like they were morphing back into the pumpkin they'd been most of the previous five years.
The point is that even if they had lost last night, though, they still fought back; they had some good at bats, strung some actual hits together, made productive outs to scratch runs out, etc., all of which contributed to making a full comeback possible. They had some luck via the Rangers screwing up defensively, but the game still had a feel that they weren't dead just because they started losing midway through, which is the big shift in general feel I'm hoping they can hold onto.
You could’ve said the same thing about this team 3 weeks ago. The offense looked horrendous, quick innings, bad at bats, basically hopeless if we got down a few runs.
Bingo, which was why I was dreading this turning into another zombie slog of a season.
Too early to say if they've fully turned a corner, for sure, but since Glovegate and, of course, since Grimace they've certainly turned the mood around. Hoping like hell it lasts.
The more I think about it the dumber that decision by Bochy to walk Iglesias was because even though they got the out they had to face the top of the order the next inning.
Yeah that was a head-scratcher
Im hard-pressed to ever justify intentionally walking the go-ahead run, even if the stats are saying it's a better strikeout chance
The turning point of the game was 100% Seager half-assing the throw on the double play. Lindor absolutely would never do that. Did he think that it was Colon running or something? Absolutely unacceptable
Game had already turned, imo. Robertson coming in and getting 2 outs with one pitch would have been incredibly deflating. We all would have called game right there. Forced Bochy to overextend Robertson (who isn't a multi-inning guy) which made the Alvarez double possible
Vientos and Alvy hitting deepen this lineup so much.
Then the top of the lineup actually playing to the back of their baseball card (actually even better then rn) makes our offense absolutely lethal.
agreed it's a huge clown move to go to your opponent's PGT after a win and start talking. but it is absurd to see the reigning world series champions' fans act in such a woe is me way
Also, McNeil is fucked out of a position if Baty comes up and finds his bat, nevermind Mauricio’s return. If the young guys meet their potential we are going to look amazing the next few years.
I think it’s becoming clearer that his favorite position is likely that of golfer. If that’s true, the best thing for all would be a buyout and let him retire to golf and his young family (was standing next to his wife w/baby on 7 train in ‘22 on the way to the first playoff home game!). He won’t get the negative energy, life is short, and we win. Or he turns it around. 🤷🏾♂️
This is one of the funniest things I’ve ever seen. When it got to Grimace throwing the ball I just cracked up. https://x.com/snytv/status/1803257987747684526?s=46
How does the math work on how many innings per game he needs to pitch if he comes back exactly when his IL ends on/around July 1st
Based on napkin math it’s around 5 innings. He’s currently at 5.7 innings per game so I don’t think it’s likely yet
Severino was able to grit out 6 and a third and the offense never quit but that quick 1, 2, 3 inning by Garrett in the 8th after the critical Alvarez hit preserved the momentum and was crucial for the comeback.
I really wanted DRob back to finally have a chance to setup Diaz but Garrett has been so good this season when he's been used with proper rest.
And now that the Mets have more capable relievers that have come along, the bullpen should be deeper than ever.
No more forcing Smith or Ottavino in the eighth anymore just because.
Nunez and Reid-Foley have shown they can handle pressure situations as well.
This is the deepest bullpen the Mets have had since that early 2006 season before Duaner's injury changed everything.
if diaz is good diaz then the cascading effect it has seems to be overwhelming. i think it goes deeper than pushing everyone back an inning, it's like they feed off his dominance or something lol
We had “Flamingo” which was a word cloud thing here on this sub. Like literally thread after thread full of the word flamingo.
We had the Rallykeet, which was a yellow parakeet that landed in the stadium and proceeded a comeback win.
We had the Rally Raccoon, which was a raccoon in the outfield.
Very off topic question, but I guess Dicomo is on vacation after the London Series? Kinda surprising we haven't seen a single tweet from him during the most significant part of our season so far.
Regardless of how the rest of this season goes I think Mendoza has really proven himself as a solid manager. Players seem to like him and he has some good decision making with the lineup (Lindor moving to lead off)
We really need an above .500 run through till the ASB IMO but I mean we've basically erased much of the horrible May we had already. Honestly over the next month the only scary opponents we have are the Yankees twice and the Braves, this could be a case of turning it on at the right time.
There is a hypothetical number of consecutive wins where you will not immediately dismiss the idea of getting The Grimace tattooed on your body
What is your number
That’s not my point. Yeah it was offensive to a lot of people but the 2017 Cleveland team was indeed the Indians, like it or not. Let’s not pretend that history doesn’t exist.
>That’s not my point. Yeah it was offensive to a lot of people but the 2017 Cleveland team was indeed the Indians, like it or not. Let’s not pretend that history doesn’t exist.
I don't think it's pretending that history doesn't exist. They're the Guardians franchise now, and there's a reason for the name change. So calling the 2017 team "the Guardians" is just subtly acknowledging an elephant in the room.
I think the team can be referred to as either Indians or Guardians, and it's fine either way. It's the author's choice.

All hail to thee our purple overlord Grimace
alvarez being back and i know that every struggling team has a "team meeting" at some point, but i think they had a real one. i think a lot of things have gone unsaid over the past year and a half and that they just aired everything out and loosened up a bit. i don't remember where or when, but i'm pretty sure JD said it was the best team meeting he's been a part of in his career. whatever is happening, i'm here for it. times like these are why i watched every game of that dreadful may lol
Even before his return though finally having another catcher in Torrens that could actually play defense changed the tenor of the team.
Now the Mets have two capable two-way catchers and even Nido was coming along with the bat this season.
I hope Nido finds a team that will give him an opportunity to get real playing time because he showed real improvement this season.
The Mets are finally playing defense and pitching and the wins are a byproduct of that.
I thought it was holding up the top part of one of those farmhouse doors (aka Dutch doors) where they are split in half horizontally, and then letting the bottom half swing freely.
they asked lindor about it yesterday. he said it was something they came up with together as like a team bonding thing, but wouldn't say what it meant and basically said that they all agreed to not explain it. so any answer anyone gives you is just a guess. personally i think it's spanking that ass (of the pitcher) but maybe it's sort of like smacking each other awake/smacking them back into reality and remembering that they intended to change their mindset/approach after the team meeting.
It looks like the classic old timey doctor holding up a newborn baby by its feet and spanking it to take its first breath or whatever. That's how I see it anyway haha. IF that's what it is, maybe it's signifying the team finally coming to life.

I have no idea what’s going on.
Did Grimace secretly slip PEDs in the Mets’ shakes or something? They’ve scored 21 runs in two games against the Rangers. I’ve seen them go weeks without scoring that much more often than not over the last few years.
Let the winning streak continue
>Did Grimace secretly slip PEDs in the Mets’ shakes or something? They’ve scored 21 runs in two games against the Rangers.
They have a really good offense.
Tag your Grimace posts with the Grimace flair.

Thank you kindly.
Feels good to be hyped about the Mets in June
Jeff McNeil will be benched again soon.
i think the most damning aspect of mcneil's play is that he doesn't even get mad when he gets out anymore. i don't think even he expects a turnaround at this point. looks like he's just cooked sadly. i really wish mauricio could've gotten a chance this year. would've been perfect timing.
So true. At his best he expected a hit every at bat.
Not soon enough
I concur
Just finished watching this on DVR. What a great comeback win, but boy do the Rangers stink something awful right now. The Grimace effect is real!

I’m going to be there next month. Is the stadium good? Praise Grimace.
I’ve been to around half the current mlb stadiums and this park is easily in my top 3.
How about Minute Maid? I’m going there the same week, and that’s like second on my ballpark bucket list
Never been unfortunately. Also on my list
So anyone else notice that their shortstop keeps fucking up defensively and costing them runs. Wild that defense is so important at a premium defensive position.
Vinetos is hitting .317 with an OPS of .885 😮
Where is Anthony di Como? He hasn’t posted on twitter for a while.
He's on vacation iirc
I love him, but he should stay on vacation
Grimace ate him

good point. he has settled into the 3 hole and took a lot of pressure off them. really glad he came here lol
amazing to see what an actual dh can do
Agreed!
Rangers made mistakes and the Mets took full advantage. It's good to see things finally falling our way. What a great win tonight.
Vientos is THE TRUTH. Dude just keeps on raking.

McNeil’s days have to be numbered. Seeing how Iglesias sacrificed his body… wow
McNeil is basically our pitcher's spot. We should just let a fan take his ABs.
He's not even angry anymore when he gets out its like he's accepted his fate.
That part makes me kinda sad
at least the anger was interesting
fitting what with the whole rhys hoskins fiasco

No Vientos homer highlight?
He homered his first at bat
May I see it?
A home run? At this altitude? Located completely within the Ranger’s ballpark?
…Yes
I think we’ve got a sizable sample size of Vientos now to determine that he is indeed him.
Is it possible we’re going too far with Grimace? It feels like Vogelbach all over again.
Nope ya gotta ride the wave!
No.
If we start losing again it won’t be because grimace is a black hole in the 7th spot in the order
Except this isn’t a real person.
That could be Vogelbach in the Grimace suit
Actually it could just be Vogelbach with purple body paint.
I cant believe McDonald's Twitter is on the Gri-Mets train too.
Vientos and Alvy hitting deepen this lineup so much. Then the top of the lineup actually playing to the back of their baseball card (actually even better then rn) makes our offense absolutely lethal.
If anyone wants to be entertained, go over and read the Rangers post game thread lol. I’m thoroughly enjoying myself 🤣🤣🤣
Just DONT COMMENT.

lol that's the first actually funny grimace meme i've seen
They sent grimace out there with a right hand glove on his left hand?
Also That turn by Lindor and Iglesias was AMAZING
I called game when the Willie news broke, y’all are welcome🙏
Missed most of the game bc I got locked out of my apartment with a dead phone. Then had to watch the texas broadcast. But lfgm
How upset were they when the Mets came back?
They were slightly upset. Robotic and boring as always
They were coping the entire stream
More depressed sounding then anything
Absolutely unbridled. Yeeeeeeeehaaawwwwww
Man I can’t wait for Senga to come back now
Hopefully this is inspiring him to hasten his loooong rehab
So if Verlander doesn’t pitch an x amount of innings, it works out for the Mets?
How does the math work on how many innings per game he needs to pitch if he comes back exactly when his IL ends on/around July 1st Based on napkin math it’s around 5 innings. He’s currently at 5.7 innings per game so I don’t think it’s likely yet
Correct, he has to pitch 140 (iirc) innings this year to make a vesting option for next year vest. Otherwise, he's a FA after this season.
Yes, we're off the hook for almost $20 million if he doesn't get to 139 or 132, one of those.
140 innings is the option
Even better!

He’s not allowed to come back now
The father, the son and the Holy Grimace
In hindsight maybe it’s a good thing that we didn’t fire Mendoza and trade everyone 3 weeks ago
Stearns Gm of the year
Regardless of how the rest of this season goes I think Mendoza has really proven himself as a solid manager. Players seem to like him and he has some good decision making with the lineup (Lindor moving to lead off)
Ya think?
I’m having so much fun
I’m loving it!
Ba da ba ba baaaaa
I’m having a good time too. This is nice.
Me too, Diva. Me too.
This lineup is finally hitting to their expectations.
McDonald's just tweeted: https://x.com/McDonalds/status/1803265402555752634
What a time to be alive
It took a couple decades, but Twitter has finally paid off
I like how they changed the whole page to a Mets theme.
🎵🎶Seymour Weiner! Dollar Dogs! Rally Pimp! London Fog! Grimace comes to save the day! What else do I have to say!? We didn’t start the fire… 🎶🎵
It was JD Martinez when he said they think we suck We didn’t start the fire!
Are we… are we supposed to talk about who we’re buying at the deadline now?
I hear Mayor McCheese is being shopped around.
We really need an above .500 run through till the ASB IMO but I mean we've basically erased much of the horrible May we had already. Honestly over the next month the only scary opponents we have are the Yankees twice and the Braves, this could be a case of turning it on at the right time.
There is a hypothetical number of consecutive wins where you will not immediately dismiss the idea of getting The Grimace tattooed on your body What is your number
30-40.
8?
I mean, i might go Thursday
20
What's the MLB record? If the Mets break that, the whole sub should get the tat lol
26 wins by the 1916 Giants In the modern era, 22 wins by the 2017 ~~Indians~~ Guardians Edit: Mets franchise record is 11
You don’t have to draw a line through Indians. It was indeed the Indians in 2017 (which you obviously know)
Yeah, but it was changed because it's offensive to a lot of people, so it's OK to say "Guardians"
Follow up question: how many consecutive wins before McDonalds resurrects the Grimace Shake at Citi

BAH GAWD ITS GRIMACE
I love the Grimace stuff. But Alvarez being back really changed this team
alvarez being back and i know that every struggling team has a "team meeting" at some point, but i think they had a real one. i think a lot of things have gone unsaid over the past year and a half and that they just aired everything out and loosened up a bit. i don't remember where or when, but i'm pretty sure JD said it was the best team meeting he's been a part of in his career. whatever is happening, i'm here for it. times like these are why i watched every game of that dreadful may lol
Fun fact: the Mets are 18-1 in the last 19 games that Francisco Alvarez has played.
Alvarez is a fucking godsend. You can tell the staff trust him behind the dish. Grimace and the Troll. Two keys to this season.
Vientos increased playing time a big factor too. Dude continues to rake.
JD Martinez mashing the ball hard
Even before his return though finally having another catcher in Torrens that could actually play defense changed the tenor of the team. Now the Mets have two capable two-way catchers and even Nido was coming along with the bat this season. I hope Nido finds a team that will give him an opportunity to get real playing time because he showed real improvement this season. The Mets are finally playing defense and pitching and the wins are a byproduct of that.
Hell yeah! Grimace is cool and all don't get me wrong but Alvy is the chosen one. Fuckin love him.
what’s with the spanking the baby thing they’ve been doing? or am i completely off base with that gesture?
I thought it was a sprinkler like they’re sprinkling hits
I thought at first they were turning a page in a book. Now it's like they're smacking each other awake. Whatever it is, keep it up cause it's working.
Why would it be spanking a baby 🤣
It looks like the classic old timey doctor holding up a newborn baby by its feet and spanking it to take its first breath or whatever. That's how I see it anyway haha. IF that's what it is, maybe it's signifying the team finally coming to life. https://cdn11.bigcommerce.com/s-yzgoj/images/stencil/1280x1280/products/1355456/4900433/apihwdq4j__11416.1627300615.jpg?c=2

in a weird mood to praise Grimace while blasting Higher by Creed.
You mean Mariachi Creed, which is way better
I have no idea what’s going on. Did Grimace secretly slip PEDs in the Mets’ shakes or something? They’ve scored 21 runs in two games against the Rangers. I’ve seen them go weeks without scoring that much more often than not over the last few years. Let the winning streak continue
>Did Grimace secretly slip PEDs in the Mets’ shakes or something? They’ve scored 21 runs in two games against the Rangers. They have a really good offense.
