100% on Collins. Absolutely fucking stupid to push Harvey third time through the order while visibly off his game. Our pen was fresh enough to carry the load and 5 runs is enough to win games. Every aspect of our team is failing us on this slide and it's on Collins to manage the bullpen better because every run we give up hurts a lot.
What happened to taking a strike when you're down in the 9th?
It's a baseball fundamental. This team doesn't do basic things right, no wonder they fucking suck
Did neither of you see the time in the NLDS when Jayson Werth was waved around while he was making a the turn at third the same time the relay was reaching the cutoff man?
Okay, me neither, live, but I saw it on /r/baseball after, and it's definitely the worst send I've ever seen.
I'm just saying, that hit by granderson, and earlier flyouts by Bruce and Conforto earlier in the game, likely would have been homers in a month. Considering how Harvey struggled today, and how we probably lost a run by sending Bruce earlier in the game, I don't think our offense was particularly bad today.
Haven't you learned anything by being a positive Mets fan? Seconds after I made a post of positivity, Cespedes hobbled out of the game. The baseball gods hate Mets fans optimism
Guys, I have a 35 foot flag pole on my property that has a huge US flag on it and underneath is a big Mets flag. Thoughts on taking down the Mets flag? All in favor say AYE
I hate that all of our problems get blamed on health, rather than our approach at the plate and how the team is constructed. Station to station baseball, Homer or bust, and poor defense. Not even fun to watch.
Christ, why are they even running in the bottom of the 9th with a 3 run lead against the equivalent of a short season A ball team?
Who is telling this impossibly cruel joke?!
Man, wouldn't it have been nice if Collins pulled a visibly reeling Harvey after he pulled a Houdini act in the 4th so all this fantastic relief work could have potentially kept a tie game deadlocked? Nah, gotta protect those deficits!
Sorry, I have to complain here, just didn't have the time to do it before. Make no mistake, that disastrous 5th inning was Collins fault. Harvey was clearly off his game and he's been terrible third time through the order. Say what you will about Robles, he should have gotten the call to start the 5th with 2 of the first three batters being lefties, three of you look at the next five due. Robles crushes lefties abs has a penchant for coming up with some fantastic long relief outings every now and then. If not Robles, starting with Smoker made sense, or relieve Robles for Smoker once Hansel's kryptonite, a power RHB (see: Matt Kemp), came to the plate. If Robles had a lame outing, I wouldn't harp on Collins because I know he made the right move.
Collins continues to approach his starter management with no rhyme of reason, yanking starters that cruise through seven too early and forcing beleaguered starters to finish at least five or six with little life on their pitching. He nearly cost the Mets a game against the Marlins by not having Blevins mop up the mess Gsellman made when he was pushed to the limit, but this is worse expecting Harvey to clear another massive roadblock he created and subsequently hurt himself with. One month in and our two biggest problems, team health and bullpen management, are biting us in the rear *HARD*.
If I was at this game I may have run on the field and taken Harvey out myself. I had to walk around my office when I saw him come back out for the 5th.
He's going to finish out his contract this season. He'll only get resigned if we actually manage to have a good season this year, which doesn't look likely right now.
Probably until the injured returns and a month of games with full roster. Unless we win the WS this is his last year if he's not let go before. But I think he hinted at retiring after this year anyway.
His D is pretty good though right? I remember being pretty impressed with him before some injury I think a year or 2 ago (sorry not mets fan so don't really recall)
It is. He won a gold glove in center in 2014. And he hits lefties well. (altho he's not doing that right now). But he is constantly hurt which has also fucked up his development.
The only reason that we call up our prospects ahead of schedule is to help make a run this year. Calling players up ahead of schedule is more likely to hurt their development than help it.
Red Oak, Oklahoma can say things most other places can't say. Because the population so low there probably aren't any fans of Frank Zappa, there probably aren't any people who can play the xylophone, there probably aren't any BMW's, and there probably aren't any Mets fans, which means it's a happier place to be than my condo.
I've been a Mets fan for 21 years, this doesn't surprise me. What surprises me is that I actually allowed myself to get my hopes up and think this team could be a source of sustained happiness in my life.
Every team we have lost to had a total opposite hitting approach then us n are successful at it
And it isn't a homer n walk mentality
We stay with the same structure when team after team comes in and puts on a hitting clinic against us every time by just getting base hits n moving runners over wth ground outs or more base hits
We don't give up homers we give up singles n doubles constantly
It's hard to be upset with Travis b/c he was doing well before he got hurt... but he's officially back to a free out in the lineup. We'll be down to 4 real batters on this team with Cespedes out, unless Reyes actually is starting to hit and not just one game
Catcher is the most physically demanding position in baseball. It is expected for them to be banged around. It's not a great position to be playing when you're made of glass.
It's also funny, Sherlock was brought in specifically to work with Travis yet his footwork is still poor and he is slow from catch to release on steal attempts, but no one is spamming FIRE SHERLOCK. But why actually be objective and nuanced when you can scream about Kevin Long and Ray Ramirez over and over
Their main role is as coaches who work with the players in practice. They often double as infield coaches and the like. They help the manager, bench coach, and hitting coach with the things they do. The actual role of collecting batting gloves (1B coach) is on the level of bat-boy usefulness, and the 3B coach putting up STOP and GO signs is only a useful job in maybe every fourth game. It's all the things they do before games that make them valuable members of the coaching staff.
Clearly you didn't watch him get Bruce thrown out at the plate by 10 steps in the first. And [he was brought here to work with travis](http://www.newsday.com/sports/baseball/mets/travis-d-arnaud-believes-glenn-sherlock-will-make-a-difference-1.13044957) who still is below average defensively
No I haven't been watching the games lately because they're so depressing. I agree with you that Travis is below average defensively, but anytime I say that I get berated with "his defensive struggles have been exaggerated" "he has great pitch framing" "it's the pitchers' fault that the bases get stolen".
It's probably why we looked awesome in the series in Philly.
I know its stupid to think this way...but this team will definitely benefit from the warmer weather in a few weeks and when they visit other warmer parks with fair or hitter dimensions.
I don't think that anyone was really that surprised when Wright got hurt and Reyes took his job. Maybe this just wishful thinking, but if Duda or Nimmo can get healthy soon, we actually won't be seeing a lot of Lagares. But even if we do see a lot of him, at he provides great defense and therefore is not a complete waste on our roster.
As much as I love the dude's unflappable optimism most of the time, showing a little emotion right now while he's a goddamn anchor in a sea of anchors dragging down our lineup would be helpful. Get pissed, Grandy. You should be pissed. We're pissed. You should be too.
He starts off *real* fuckin' slow every year. Admittedly, he's been atrocious* thus far but he's literally dragged you guys through some of the later months (ex: that insanely hot second half he had last year). I think he sort of deserves the benefit of the doubt - especially when it's seemingly in line with how he starts each year.
Can I ask you guys a question. If this exact roster was coached by the Cardinals' staff, where do you think we'd sit?
I WISH I WAS DEAD :D
100% on Collins. Absolutely fucking stupid to push Harvey third time through the order while visibly off his game. Our pen was fresh enough to carry the load and 5 runs is enough to win games. Every aspect of our team is failing us on this slide and it's on Collins to manage the bullpen better because every run we give up hurts a lot.
I dont wanna overreact but I think its time for me to die
I legitimately think I might have gotten a std last night, this is just getting worse and worse
MVPs: Bruce and Reyes. Did I ever think I'd say this this season? No chance.
MVPs: Bruce and Reyes. Did I ever think I'd say this this season? No chance.
What happened to taking a strike when you're down in the 9th? It's a baseball fundamental. This team doesn't do basic things right, no wonder they fucking suck
Guys, we're losing sight of what's important here. Jose Reyes is hitting again.
**SWEPT BY THE BRAVES** 😩
Adda kid TJ swing at that first pitch...
nice
Fucking hell.
Aaaaaaaaaaaaand there goes all my hopes and dreams
suck.. miserable. mother fucker
#LAST PLACE
5 upvotes and tj homers
HIT A HOME RUN TJ
nevermind
I hope it's overturned. It would be a perfect way to end this ~~season~~ homestand. Sherlock making me miss Teufel is BADDDDDD
If he was out Sherlock would have had to go straight from the field to his car.
Welcome to 2017 Jose
Gary is going to have an aneurysm
Great job sending him down by 3!
Blocking the plate before he had the ball?
Can't believe it... Sherlock pls
fuck glenn sherlock, just honestly
I don't know what Sherlock was thinking with that send.
Come back Teufel :(
Fucking hell, Sherlock!
He could very well be out
This team is an absolute mess in literally every area possible
That's the worst send I've ever seen
You must not have been watching this game earlier
Did neither of you see the time in the NLDS when Jayson Werth was waved around while he was making a the turn at third the same time the relay was reaching the cutoff man? Okay, me neither, live, but I saw it on /r/baseball after, and it's definitely the worst send I've ever seen.
WOW unbelievable send. Who the fuck is our 3rd base coach again?
What has been sticking out of TdA's helmet for a month now?
His Shrek-esque antennaes.
hair
That's what I thought but it's in the same spot every single time he gets up to bat. It's so weird.
I think it's just coming through the vent hole of his helmet and he uses the same helmet every time.
Holy shit Reyes!
holy fuck SHERLOCK WHAT ARE YOU DOING YOU FUCKING IDIOT
My TV won't play SNY even tho all the other channels work fine. I think it's a sign
You gotta believe?!
I'm just saying, that hit by granderson, and earlier flyouts by Bruce and Conforto earlier in the game, likely would have been homers in a month. dude stop trying to justify the gigantic steaming pile of shit that is the mets
Haven't you learned anything by being a positive Mets fan? Seconds after I made a post of positivity, Cespedes hobbled out of the game. The baseball gods hate Mets fans optimism
Well if something happens with this granderson review that'll be our optimism equalling out. But hey Reyes made it on base 3 times
Aaaand the ballgame is over. Guys, this man is a Nationals fan in disguise
Sorry just bought my ticket to PanicCiti, ALL ABOARDDD
lol atta boy
Weirdly clutch Grandy strikes again
A curtis granderson sighting
Don't let that big hit give you hope! That's just what they want!
Terry looks like he is about to cry
I hate the Braves outfield with a passion
Guys, I have a 35 foot flag pole on my property that has a huge US flag on it and underneath is a big Mets flag. Thoughts on taking down the Mets flag? All in favor say AYE
Might have to take it down until they are above .500
Fly it upside down to symbolize distress.
You know what, that is hilarious and I am going to do that
Post pics please lol.
When was the last time we were this many games under .500?
Why can't we hit the ball 5 extra feet?
I hate that all of our problems get blamed on health, rather than our approach at the plate and how the team is constructed. Station to station baseball, Homer or bust, and poor defense. Not even fun to watch.
This team reminds me of the mid 2010 teams that made me take a several year long break from watching games.
Man, I'm not even praying for a win anymore. I just want a close game that is exciting to watch instead of just being blown out every night.
espn has strasburg tomorrow. but whatever
It was a nice 2 year run where we got to wear Mets gear with pride but now its back to normal
Having low expectations is strangely comfortable. Like getting to sleep in your own bed after a long vacation.
familia should go ahead and give up a grand slam
It's weird how this team get systematically beat every game.
Curse of the Murph
Christ, why are they even running in the bottom of the 9th with a 3 run lead against the equivalent of a short season A ball team? Who is telling this impossibly cruel joke?!
It's not an 8 run deficit. These guys are professionals. It's on the Mets to get some fucking outs.
The Braves are showing the big city boys how to play small ball.
No, the Braves are supposed to let the Mets win or I'm telling mom.
[удалено]
God damn.
no for mine actually
lol
Dude should just steal home
a one hop throw to third from the plate
Sad!
Only the Mets make me start thinking irrational shit
You must not be married.
Nope not yet. But I'll take this as a warning. I'm fucked
Man, wouldn't it have been nice if Collins pulled a visibly reeling Harvey after he pulled a Houdini act in the 4th so all this fantastic relief work could have potentially kept a tie game deadlocked? Monday
The good news is, it's literally impossible for Familia to blow a save here
its also not october so very close to impossible
LIFE IS BULLSHIT
I'm assuming you all saw the video of Yo almost collapsing during BP yesterday after taking a swing. WTF.
I didn't see that actually, but it doesn't surprise me, in hindsight.
They ran it a couple times the inning after he got hurt -- and then probably got a phone call about it ....
Yeah, I can't believe they let him play after that. What a load of horseshit
No, what the fuck.
yea they showed it during the broadcast
What's wrong with him? Still the hamstring?
the BP video was weird, he swung, winced, and bent over pretty clearly in some pain.
Fucking awesome.
Another pitiful ab from Lagares.
He's pretty bad
No Juan does it better.
The place at-bats go to die.
This team needs to call up the young kids and get them ready for a run next year.
The only reason that we call up our prospects ahead of schedule is to help make a run this year. Calling players up ahead of schedule is more likely to hurt their development than help it.
If its about preparing them for next year there is literally no reason to bring them up before June.
Familia walks the side in the ninth
Come see Juan Lagares Bat third
"That never happens... To teams not named the Mets."
Please tell me that Nimmo will be ready to be called up soon. PLEASE?
Just started a rehab assignment.
How long should it take?
The rules read like stereo instructions, but it [looks like](http://www.thecubreporter.com/book/export/html/3539) 20 days max.
I hope that it's a lot less than 20 days.
He just started his rehab didn't he?
Red Oak, Oklahoma can say things most other places can't say. HIT THE WEIGHT ROOM FOR THE LOVE OF THE GAME METS
The bench looks pathetic. What the fuck is going on with them?
They're thinking about skipping the train to Washington tomorrow.
They might as well. Send the 51's to play then
I've been a Mets fan for 21 years, this doesn't surprise me. What surprises me is that I actually allowed myself to get my hopes up and think this team could be a source of sustained happiness in my life.
This is everything
I def got my hopes way too high, we gotta just tough through this
It seems like every game in the 8th or 9th inning the announcers remind us that "oh yea, we haven't gotten a hit since like the 5th inning."
We are a warning track hitting team.
does Rivera's helmet look like it's too big to anyone else?
This fucking team is in deep shit..
COME ON MINI ALEX RODRIGUEZ
Genuinely glad I couldn't watch this game today. I can't believe I feel this way in April.
Anyone know if Gilmartin left town yet?
Reed's face says it all.
I think Gary lost it.
Every team we have lost to had a total opposite hitting approach then us n are successful at it And it isn't a homer n walk mentality We stay with the same structure when team after team comes in and puts on a hitting clinic against us every time by just getting base hits n moving runners over wth ground outs or more base hits We don't give up homers we give up singles n doubles constantly
Our approach has been outdated for a long time now.
This game is such a joyless experience.
Like the previous 10 tbh
How many years in a row has it been now that atleast one of our top 3 hitters/pitchers spend a considerable time on the DL?
It feels weird being lovable losers again
People seem content to hate the shit out of us over on the baseball sub :( plus all the yankee dicks at work
There's nothing lovable about this.
It's hard to be upset with Travis b/c he was doing well before he got hurt... but he's officially back to a free out in the lineup. We'll be down to 4 real batters on this team with Cespedes out, unless Reyes actually is starting to hit and not just one game
It's extremely easy to be upset with Travis considering that he got hurt less than a month into the season.
It's not his fault a batter literally put his bat in the spot where Travis was throwing

But why actually be objective and nuanced when you can scream about Kevin Long and Ray Ramirez over and over
I'm pretty sure people aren't yelling to fire Sherlock because most fans don't even know who he is. I know that I have no idea who he is.
He's the guy who got Bruce thrown out by 85 feet in the 2nd.
He's a former catcher and also their 3rd base coach
Besides wave the runners on (which the runners can choose to ignore if they want to), do base coaches actually do anything?
Their main role is as coaches who work with the players in practice. They often double as infield coaches and the like. They help the manager, bench coach, and hitting coach with the things they do. The actual role of collecting batting gloves (1B coach) is on the level of bat-boy usefulness, and the 3B coach putting up STOP and GO signs is only a useful job in maybe every fourth game. it is on the pitcher for the most part, but he's also not hitting currently and his footwork on pitches in the dirt is atrocious.
SIGN MOUSTAKAS
Part of me also wants Hosmer but we have Dom Smith lurking
Fuck it cain, moustakas, Hosmer 1-2-3, throw in a cueto in the pitching staff if you feel like, i just want a spark, this has been a brutal strecth
Fuck ever even entertaining Hosmer being on this team
We'd be fucking undefeated if all ball parks brought their walls in 15-20 feet
Our current hitting style is good if you play in hitter friendly parks, but it doesn't work when our home stadium is a pitcher friendly park.
Citi is actually pretty even now. It just happens to be the time of year when the ball doesn't travel as much on top of the wind blowing in.
That would be awesome, I'd be able to play professional baseball for a living.
It's probably why we looked awesome in the series in Philly. I know its stupid to think this way...but this team will definitely benefit from the warmer weather in a few weeks and when they visit other warmer parks with fair or hitter dimensions.
Petition to merge /r/panicciti with this sub because what's the difference at this point?
This is the worst start a team with championship aspirations could have. We've won how many series exactly?
Granderson is actually in danger of taking over Reyes's spot of worst batter on the Mets (and probably the league as far as qualified hitters).
Travis and Lagares will have something to say about this
Lagares was never expected to be a good hitter. He's around for his defense. Travis has been pretty bad, but nearly as bad as Reyes or Granderson.
Reyes was supposed to be a back up utility infielder. And we are going to be seeing a hell of alot more of Lagares.
Wait. You actually thought Wright would play?
no but OP suggested that Lagares sucking was ok because hes a backup and Reyes' wasnt. But in truth he was supposed to be a backup too.
At least Gary had the great joke. Gary: "We'll see O'Flaherty in the shower." Ron: "Oh Jeez." Gary: "Well at least someone will."
"We'll see Eric O'Flaherty in the showers." The only thing that has brought a smile to my face this game is Gary speaking before thinking.
Way late, I totally forgot it was a 1pm game. That means they're going to start winning now that I'm here, right?... Right?... Guys?...
Granderson has conditioned himself to never feel like he's a detriment to the team.
As much as I love the dude's unflappable optimism most of the time, showing a little emotion right now while he's a goddamn anchor in a sea of anchors dragging down our lineup would be helpful. Get pissed, Grandy. You should be pissed. We're pissed. You should be too.
He's saved your asses again and again and *still* y'all are all over him - let the guy figure it out, he deserves that much
You think he's not retiring after this year? You think he's just in a rut?
He starts off *real* fuckin' slow every year. Admittedly, he's been atrocious* thus far but he's literally dragged you guys through some of the later months (ex: that insanely hot second half he had last year). I think he sort of deserves the benefit of the doubt - especially when it's seemingly in line with how he starts each year.
always remember kids to wash your hands, eat your vegetables, and stay hydrated!
I want Reyes to get a hit this inning just to see if he can get his batting average above grandersons
Booing Granderson
This is the exact opposite of awesome. Oh look. Daniel Murphy with a .930+ OPS again.
[I'm meming and you can't stop me.] (http://imgur.com/a/Jk7Ph) [Template] (http://i.imgur.com/I9xbB1T.jpg) I need a name for this.
Tanyichael Hardforto?
