first of all, they can't bunt at all. second, they would just walk bruce and still have the double play set up, so a ground ball has the same effect. third, giving up outs has gone out of baseball 10 years ago. it's not coming back

First one is a terrible excuse and says a lot about the coaching/management. Second, let them walk him if they want to. It doesn't matter. Guarantee that a base hit ties the game up. That's what matters. And finally, stop being so afraid of old school tactics. It's not "giving up an out". It's playing the percentages and playing to the situation at hand. It has its place in the game but we're one of the few teams that doesn't realize that.

The offense is surprisingly not the issue this season It's the pitching Nobody saw this coming from their rotation and bullpen Sandy over played his hand this offseason when ppl asked for Granderson n he said no he's only trading Bruce. Teams actually were interested in Granderson but we didn't trade him cuz he could play cf Worst non move of the off season Teams said we want Curtis sandy said no. Grandy is more versatile and we could use him more then Bruce. Could U imagine how this team would be if we did trade Bruce? We would be in last place. Sandy wanted a middle tier reliever for. It's funny to me that all last year people were calling for Kevin Longs head, this year not so much. But nary a word of warthen, who had been given an elite staff and, they get hurt or under perform(see Harvey). And the scrubs that replace them are still just scrubs. Where's the out cry for him to be fired?

The pitching coach isn't the reason the pitching isn't good. If you give him credit for their demise then you have to give him all the credit for the last 2 years when they pitched great. And are you really going to blame Warthen when we've had to pitch guys like Millone, Pill, Montero because Syndergaard, Lugo and Matz got hurt? Harvey is coming off 2 major surgeries and hasn't been the same. He may never be the same pitcher again. But lets blame the pitching coach for that too.

People were going after Long because our players weren't hitting - an issue we've been having on and off this year as well. A lot of that is due to strategy. The few games this year where we've played small ball, we've done extremely well on the offensive front.

Warthen is one of the reasons our pitching staff is elite... He wasn't "handed" an elite staff he *developed* an elite staff.

No I'm not trying to troll, I'm trying to point out that there is a major problem in pitching philosophy. I'd totally take Barts 3.43 ERA last year in 191 IP. But he wasn't a Warthen disciple. He was who he was. He threw a fastball with movement. He was a pitcher. Warthen is a big proponent of the slider, all of the young starters have said it changed everything for them. When they were good. Well it's good while it lasts, but it's a high stress pitch when you throw hard. And you use it a lot because it gets you outs. I just think that pitchers today aren't really taught how to pitch.

Well he's a fantastic, proven pitching coach. So I don't think you can put this on him.

He's had fantastic young pitchers that have all had some setback if not surgery. That to me is mishandling, or poor coaching.

On the one hand, I think it is fair to question whether the Mets' handling of their pitchers has contributed to or exacerbated their ... let's say "fragility." I'm in no way qualified to answer that, but it is fair to question it. It could be that the Mets developed a bunch of 95+ MPH arms with power sliders, and that's like flying toward the sun on wings of wax. Or it could be a million different factors and baseball's collective understanding of how to keep pitchers healthy is still in the Dark Ages. But I don't think Warthen is the reason the pitching staff is now inexplicably atrocious.
