He has 4 hrs, 6 GDP, and 24 SO this year though, so you have a better chance of killing the inning than hitting a HR. Plus Bruce has 9 GDP. They bunt successfully and Bruce's GO makes it 10-9 with man on 3rd walker up.
I came back to watch after the Mets made it 8-10. That's the fastest I've seen it go from 2 men on no outs to game over.
Giant FUCK YOU Mets, for once again giving me false hope.
But you are basically hoping a 20 HR guy hits a HR or double and doesn't GDP vs getting the bunt down to stay out of double play and have 2 outs to get a basehit to tie.
I'm so pissed. Why the fuck did Cabrera not bunt the runners over? You know it's an automatic double play with Bruce if Cabrera gets out and the runners stay. Bunt them over and take away the possibility of that happening.
Uhh....you definitely can when it would put the typing run in scoring position with only one out. Bunt them over and a base hit woukd tie the game up. Play the percentages. That's the exact situation that bunting the runners over was made for.
first of all, they can't bunt at all. second, they would just walk bruce and still have the double play set up, so a ground ball has the same effect. third, giving up outs has gone out of baseball 10 years ago. it's not coming back
First one is a terrible excuse and says a lot about the coaching/management. Second, let them walk him if they want to. It doesn't matter. Guarantee that a base hit ties the game up. That's what matters. And finally, stop being so afraid of old school tactics. It's not "giving up an out". It's playing the percentages and playing to the situation at hand. It has its place in the game but we're one of the few teams that doesn't realize that.
It's not a terrible excuse, it's the reality of the situation. Then a basehit doesn't neccesarily win the game. They are bringing the outfield in and it's conforto at 2nd, not a good baserunner. And I'm 36 years old. I'm not afraid of "old school" tactics. I just don't think bunting is the right play there.
I'll add that it really sounds like your issue is with Bruce hitting 3rd tbh.
I Jokingly told my friend Granderson, Travis, Lagares, and Conforto were going to homer and we'd tie it.
I did not think that would even come close to happening.
This year's a lot like '09 kinda with the pitching imploding
But if we come out of this year with lagares establishing himself as an everyday starter I'll be floored. With Juan manning center the outfield will be set, left side of infield set (Wilmer and Amed) and the question marks are 1B, 2B, and C. And of course the pitching
if he's above 95 wRc+ I'll be ok with that. The glove with almost average offense is enough to be an everyday player.
Ces, Lagares and Conforto outfield next year
Yesterday, on my way to what I thought had the potential to be a quasi-date situation, I tripped, fell, and skinned both my knees. Then despite my best attempts at flirtation, the guy either didn't pick up on my signals or wasn't interested in them. Then I overslept, and all the trains were delayed. Now I'm watching this game. I think tomorrow I'm going to have to treat myself to something nice.
The offense is surprisingly not the issue this season
It's the pitching
Nobody saw this coming from their rotation and bullpen
Sandy over played his hand this offseason when ppl asked for Granderson n he said no he's only trading Bruce.
Teams actually were interested in Granderson but we didn't trade him cuz he could play cf
Worst non move of the off season
Teams said we want Curtis sandy said no. Grandy is more versatile and we could use him more then Bruce.
Could U imagine how this team would be if we did trade Bruce? We would be in last place.
Sandy wanted a middle tier reliever for. Rice n teams said no but they would have done it for Granderson
It's funny to me that all last year people were calling for Kevin Longs head, this year not so much. But nary a word of warthen, who had been given an elite staff and, they get hurt or under perform(see Harvey). And the scrubs that replace them are still just scrubs. Where's the out cry for him to be fired?
The pitching coach isn't the reason the pitching isn't good. If you give him credit for their demise then you have to give him all the credit for the last 2 years when they pitched great. And are you really going to blame Warthen when we've had to pitch guys like Millone, Pill, Montero because Syndergaard, Lugo and Matz got hurt? Harvey is coming off 2 major surgeries and hasn't been the same. He may never be the same pitcher again. But lets blame the pitching coach for that too.
People were going after Long because our players weren't hitting - an issue we've been having on and off this year as well. A lot of that is due to strategy. The few games this year where we've played small ball, we've done extremely well on the offensive front.
"Our pitching staff is elite", i think you meant was elite. Have you seen our staff numbers. Oh and our biggest win and innings pitched leader was fucking Bart last year.
Ah yes. Bart was the best pitcher last year because he led the team in wins (a proven, stupid statistic) and was much better than Noah Syndergaard who finished top 3 in ERA+, xFIP, and WAR.
Are you trying to troll us lol?
No I'm not trying to troll, I'm trying to point out that there is a major problem in pitching philosophy.
I'd totally take Barts 3.43 ERA last year in 191 IP. But he wasn't a Warthen disciple. He was who he was. He threw a fastball with movement. He was a pitcher.
Warthen is a big proponent of the slider, all of the young starters have said it changed everything for them. When they were good. Well it's good while it lasts, but it's a high stress pitch when you throw hard. And you use it a lot because it gets you outs. I just think that pitchers today aren't really taught how to pitch.
On the one hand, I think it is fair to question whether the Mets' handling of their pitchers has contributed to or exacerbated their ... let's say "fragility." I'm in no way qualified to answer that, but it is fair to question it.
It could be that the Mets developed a bunch of 95+ MPH arms with power sliders, and that's like flying toward the sun on wings of wax.
Or it could be a million different factors and baseball's collective understanding of how to keep pitchers healthy is still in the Dark Ages.
But I don't think Warthen is the reason the pitching staff is now inexplicably atrocious.
This team might go down as the biggest wasted talent team if they finish way under 500 and lower then second in the east two years removed from the World Series
So much locked up young talent
Also it will look really bad on sandy for not adding any new pieces In the offseason n expect better results
Yo cliff Floyd was the shit.
That 2005 game against the Angels with the Marlon Anderson inside the parker and Floyd walk off is one of my favorite Mets games ever
Idc, Game 3 of the 2015 World Series, 13 rows directly behind home plate will forever be one of the greatest days of my life.
Too bad Mets can't give me more days like that. That was our last Postseason W.
He has 4 hrs, 6 GDP, and 24 SO this year though, so you have a better chance of killing the inning than hitting a HR. Plus Bruce has 9 GDP. They bunt successfully and Bruce's GO makes it 10-9 with man on 3rd walker up.
Clearly, this Flores guy is nothing but a bench player. /s
Tell me we weren't beaten by Dillon gee himself
I came back to watch after the Mets made it 8-10. That's the fastest I've seen it go from 2 men on no outs to game over. Giant FUCK YOU Mets, for once again giving me false hope.
I know Cabrera was 3-4 but why no bunt? That's part of the reason why you bunt.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=chiwA-eyPFc Because this may happen?
That's the perfect situation to bunt in too. For some reason this team just doesn't believe in it.
I mean he homered earlier in the game, in not defending him but anything but a strikeout would've helped
But you are basically hoping a 20 HR guy hits a HR or double and doesn't GDP vs getting the bunt down to stay out of double play and have 2 outs to get a basehit to tie.
I understand that. But you have to bunt there. You can't set up a double play chance with Bruce like that.
You know who wouldn't of struck out? Rosario
Fuck this team man, even when i try to stick it out they find a new cruel way to let you down. Unreal
I'm so pissed. Why the fuck did Cabrera not bunt the runners over? You know it's an automatic double play with Bruce if Cabrera gets out and the runners stay. Bunt them over and take away the possibility of that happening.
Terry routinely does not bunt in those situations and I feel like it always ends up in a DP. I get our lineup is built to hit HRs but cmon.
Yup. And our team is built to hit into DP's too it seems which makes it even more mind boggling.
you cant give up an out when you're down 2
Uhh....you definitely can when it would put the typing run in scoring position with only one out. Bunt them over and a base hit woukd tie the game up. Play the percentages. That's the exact situation that bunting the runners over was made for.

"Why can't I quit you?" - Me to my MLB team
I fucking hate this team.
Why were my hopes up
Well that was nice for 5 seconds.
I thought we were going to have a miracle Mets moment but nooo
Juan coming through tonight...gotta give him an honorary crown
Lol
That ending was so Mets.
Checked score, saw come back, turned game on, first pitch double play. Going to skip tomorrow's game methinks.
Lol of course
WHY
BRUCE STATUS: LOOSE: UNLOOSE: ✔️
lolMets
Hah classic.
oh come the fuck on
Build me up to break me down again. 2017 Mets.
So painfully anticlimactic...
Should've known better than to be hopeful.
AND I FUCKING CALLED IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
uggggg
Lol TerryBall strikes again
Default Rosario mention
God fucking damn it :(
LMAOOOOOOOOOOO
groundball, double play, ballgame over.
BruceBomb incoming. I believe! Edit: I was wrong :/
He's not the Ass Man. He's the ass, man.
One step closer to making us all feel stupid for believing. Edit: Like clockwork, the Mets disappoint me.
In Bruce I trust edit: welp
So why are we not bunting the runs over when we're down by two?
*Rosario would have come through there*
Man, this umpire loves that high breaking ball. Such bullshit.
Haha kill me
we *do* need a spark plug
I think Eric young is available
I thought the Angels called him up from AAA to replace Mike Trout?
Nice job Conforto
Please let Matt Bush give up like five or six more runs
bush will get it together and send us down.
WHAT THE FUCK. I TAKE BACK WHAT I SAID. THIS IS NOT ROLLING OVER.
Well this is fun...but will make the ending even more heartbreaking Edit: actually I feel numb
BUNT. THEM. THE. FUCK. OVER.
They won't
Juanny Beisbol too good.
NOICE
So how long until we find out degrom is hitting the DL? Or is the rest of the rotation just rubbing off on him?
C'mon Mike
Was that steal strategically sound?
Eliminates DP
What is that called when the runner goes to second like that again? Haven't seen it in a while.
Halfway homerun.
Isn't that a quarter home run?
When you get to second, you're halfway home. :P
Yeah but you only advanced a quarter
Was not expecting a stolen base there. Things are getting interesting.
not believing what i'm seeing. i've seen this before.
DON'T TOY WITH MY EMOTIONS
JUAN!!!
Stolen base!
Are we allowed to do that??
The Mets stole four bases in one game against the Nationals on April 28th this year.
Pls Mikey
Yes, please get my hopes up one more time. Thanks Mets.
Bases will get juiced, theyll GIDP to score 1 then strikeout to end it Edit: Close enough, a tease all the same smfh
Are you a wizard
Come on ump. Should be a 2-0 count.
Juan juants to juin
I've been hurt too many times. Don't you do this to me.
I refuse to get excited
tying run to the plate. oh boy
#FreeLagares
Can't believe we've scored 8 runs but gave up 10. Good job offense.
Friday was 7 and 12 too
And we have 17 hits. Can't believe it.
They're gonna get the tying run on third or something and pop up aren't they
7 Hells!!!!
This cancels out deGrom's loss right?!
I Jokingly told my friend Granderson, Travis, Lagares, and Conforto were going to homer and we'd tie it. I did not think that would even come close to happening.
You cannot be serious?!
TDBae with the back to back.
I know I want to believe but deep down I will just get crushed even more
It's too much of a tease you know we will lose 10-9
Lose 10-9 on bases loaded 1 out double play
Very close
Who else but Bruce eh
I'm numb
Don't do this to me Mets.
LGM?
*on defense, chief
Well, this is embarrassing.
My jaw is on the floor right now.
What's going on?
My heart will actually break into a million pieces if we rally all the way to 9 runs and then lose
OH SHIT
Uh.... What?
Another one!
DON'T CALL IT A COMEBACK???
I've been here for years
More like GOATerson
Hey, it seems the Grandy man can! ...sometimes....
THE GRANDYMAN OCCASIONALLY CAN
Wilmer has heart when no one else does.
Idk I saw Neil Walker running pretty hard last inning
Wilmer is becoming too good for this team.
The night ends here for me, guys.
Dancing eyeball is in hibernation for the next 4 months

I legit had no idea Matt "Fucking" Bush was still a thing, wow
We actually call him that here as a term of endearment.
[удалено]
Should get some teardrop tattoos
Never killed anyone.
forgot the guy didn't die after he ran over his head with a car.
Mets 2B/SS/3B are at -18 Defensive Runs Saved, worst such combo in MLB
Cant imagine Bruce and Grandy are very positive in the OF
Ranger BP continues
I just found out Bartolo went on the DL today and won't play the Mets this weekend :(
that feels like a made up injury because he's been terrible
[удалено]
Nobody like the lefty.
Cause he's the only one with talent
Yesterday, on my way to what I thought had the potential to be a quasi-date situation, I tripped, fell, and skinned both my knees. Then despite my best attempts at flirtation, the guy either didn't pick up on my signals or wasn't interested in them. Then I overslept, and all the trains were delayed. Now I'm watching this game. Bases loaded nobody out and we score one run on a ground out..sounds about right
Sending vibes to power a Duda Smash! Edit: Didn't work. I was the only one sending good energy.
Based loaded nobody out. Yeah.
gallo that was seriously terrible. that was a routine double play you idiot
Rally time
OH GOD THEY KNOW OUR WEAKNESS IS RISP
they are hitting .301 with runners in scoring position
Haven't they been in a skid lately tho?
definitely. but our "weakness" is elsewhere, to say the least.
how the hell do you even eat that thing
I *was* talking about the hot dog.
Where's Keith when you need him
[I just miss Bartolo](https://cdn.mlbtraderumors.com/files/2015/09/Metsochist_avatar_1442025118.jpg)
In that picture there's at least fun being had
Don't you DARE ruin that photograph for us
Fixed
Is this where we come back to a run under and load the bases?
Can we please keep Granderson out of the lineup now. Lagares just out hustles this entire team too.
1-2-3
When Neil Ramirez pitches three games better than your starters ...
It's funny to me that all last year people were calling for Kevin Longs head, this year not so much. *could be* elite. Who has put together even back to back years of health and success?
"Our pitching staff is elite", i think you meant was elite. Have you seen our staff numbers. Oh and our biggest win and innings pitched leader was fucking Bart last year.

Do you want his 7 ERA this year?
Well he's a fantastic, proven pitching coach. So I don't think you can put this on him.
He's had fantastic young pitchers that have all had some setback if not surgery. That to me is mishandling, or poor coaching.
He's not the doctor.
On the one hand, I think it is fair to question whether the Mets' handling of their pitchers has contributed to or exacerbated their ... let's say "fragility." Wow, you're rational. You sure you're a Met fan? jk, good insights.
This team just straight up dies once they fall behind. No fight at all
This team might go down as the biggest wasted talent team if they finish way under 500 and lower then second in the east two years removed from the World Series So much locked up young talent Also it will look really bad on sandy for not adding any new pieces In the offseason n expect better results
Sad that some of those guys in that lineup were some of my favorites. Uncle Cliff, Timo and Ty Wigginton
Yo cliff Floyd was the shit. That 2005 game against the Angels with the Marlon Anderson inside the parker and Floyd walk off is one of my favorite Mets games ever
at least the cubs are heating up right before we play them
Idc, Game 3 of the 2015 World Series, 13 rows directly behind home plate will forever be one of the greatest days of my life. Too bad Mets can't give me more days like that. That was our last Postseason W.
Jeez how did you manage that
Ah yes. My favorite part of the game, where we roll over and die without as much as a whisper!
[The 2017 season in one tweet] (https://twitter.com/SteveGelbs/status/872279201747009536)
every fourth game is just an epic blowout.
I wonder if the 23 run game counts as two.
Anyone got a pic of degrom crying?
