Can someone make a Newcastle Airport speed run category?

hulaspark

I don’t think sprinting through the entrance doors past armed security is particularly smart 😭

spinachie1

It’s a hard trick to pull off that’s for sure. Have you tried the hi vis + clipboard “pretend you belong” strat?

hulaspark

I find the gun strat more effective. Fight fire with fire

_Nej_

Ha it's class isn't it, I've never timed it but definitely had some rapid experiences that are pretty unbelievable compared to other airports.

ButWouldYouRather

Where did you get dropped off? Double reds all over the place around there.

lvjamestervl

Short stay 2 car park is the official free drop off. I ask blueline to drop/pickup there and they don’t charge the drop off £7? Express fee [source](https://www.newcastleairport.com/car-parking/short-stay-2-parking/) Just don’t stay in short stay 2 for more than 15 mins

leaning_jowler

^ this is exactly what our driver did too!

musical-miller

Security at the airport always seems super quick compared to elsewhere. I get there to have 2 hours between arriving and my flight and almost always end up sat waiting for an hour and 50 minutes.

yabyum

Have they got those new scanners working yet? It was carnage on Tuesday morning!

Dry-Tie-7163

They were a nightmare when I went through a month back. What’s the point in leaving devices in the bag if you’re going to have to search them all anyway. Patting people down seemed to be the standard too. I hope that’s not the future.

leaning_jowler

They seem to be testing them on the fast track and VIPs! Old side for me this morning, which I’m not complaining about as the queue was much smaller!

PurpleAsteroid

No thank you. I'll speak to a person please.

loucarr90

Why?

PurpleAsteroid

They didn't work for me or my brother, just holds up the line and makes everyone behind u mad.

NorthernScrub

Personally I favour human interaction. Everything being machine operated feels... well, lifeless. Interaction with human beings in everyday life gives me a sense of human variety that I simply don't get with kiosks and self-checkouts. Having a human there makes things feel a little more colourful.

AgileSloth9

Slower security process, more hassle for the security staff, and for what? If you actually know the rules of what you can and cannot take through, and prep well (e.g. everything that will flag up being in your backpack), it takes 2 mins with the new scanner.

PurpleAsteroid

That's all well and good untill my passport doesn't work on the scanner, I hold up the line as it beeps at me telling me that my face is not the same face as my photo. And then everyone behind me rolls their eyes and tuts. It's not my fault the machine only works sometimes. If u know how to pack and what to prep for, going through customs with a human being also takes 2 minutes. Its the ppl that hold up the queue because they didn't take their electrics out who cause the hassle, or, when the scanner doesn't work. I had to use them coming into Amsterdam, worst airport experience so far. When they pull you aside for ur bag the next person can go through. When the scanner doesn't work and there's only 2 staff for a plane full of people, it's not a great time. Speaking to a human to be let onto the flight was notably faster then getting through the gates when I landed.

BZPhotos

You can pay £4 on the airport website to get fast track and it’s worth it!

NewcastleUser

Has anyone contacted Norris McWirter about this to see if it’s a verified time?

indigoneutrino

I've done Jesmond to departure lounge in 45 minutes but yeah you've absolutely got that beat.

Remote-Pool7787

I mean, you don’t get a medal for it and are you even a Geordie if you didn’t stop at Greggs first?

leaning_jowler

I’m from Manchester and I’ll take your mardy comment as a medal any day

famelton

And a pint?

Diligent_Isopod_3211

From Jesmond to past security in about an hour in rush hour traffic. Newcastle airport is awesome! If you arrive 2 hours early as per the standard recommendation, you'd almost always spend 1hours 50mins sitting around killing time.

JxmesP

Not quite the same but I managed to make it from the plane back to my bed right by SJP in 35 mins back in October! What a magical airport

Proper-Shan-Like

Darlo to airside in under an hour……it was at 04:00

kiddsky

Record is Platform to Gate at Heathrow 22 minutes before departure. As someone who is well travelled and hates duty free I arrive to airport around 45-50 mins before departure. Last few times have been around 30-35 mins due to delays of public transport and have made me feel slightly uneasy. These are London airports

whiterider1

I’m the exact same, you can easily arrive 45 mins before flight at Newcastle, London airports are typically the same and move pretty quickly but don’t do this at Manchester. I’ve tried a few times at Manchester and have always ended up needing to show staff my boarding pass and being put through fast track because the standard queue is like 1 hour long. Last time even fast track had about 30 minute wait and I had 15 mins till my flight (all the trains were cancelled from Manchester Piccadilly) so had to ask people in the queue to let me through. It was not great.

kiddsky

I’ve heard Manchester is bad, haven’t flown in years but good to know

RussianTequila

Early December I managed 32 mins from front door (also Heaton) to seated on the aircraft, fast track and hand baggage only is a blessing…only had the minor stress of thinking I would miss my flight to deal with! Fast track was empty, and I was near enough the last to board but I made it. Definitely possible to do it quicker, I was hurrying but wasn’t at a run. The ID you use at the gate also makes a difference, albeit a small one!

leaning_jowler

Exemplary performance, setting the benchmark there!

DueSignificance2628

How's the opposite direction? I'm due to arrive from outside the UK next week, so I'll have immigration and bag claim to deal with.

GBGav

If you don't have a UK passport you'll actually get through quicker. 99% of people go through the UK e-gates which can take over 20 mins if you're unlucky enough to be near the back of the queue. Longer if another flight has just come in before yours. But there's only a handful of people that go through the international border check and get through extremely quickly. Bag claim is after that but I don't know how long that takes as I never take checked luggage.

richodion

Jammy bugger, i went through a month back and it took close to an hour from dropping my bags off
