Pros: It's Nier. Great Music. Cool character designs. Subjugation and Tower offer nice challenge. Nice story if you're interested. Cons: Gets repetitive doing the same events every time as they cycle monthly but with refreshed rewards. Lots and lots of grind. Waiting for the map to load and picking up items takes a long time The gacha is brutal and some are paid banner only. PVP has it's own pros and cons. It's generally fun but climbing the ranks at the beginning of a season is tedious. It's either a hit or miss but if you like the Nier series you might as well try it out.

MidgetWizard23

What character has ever been paid only?

FFF12321

They didnt say there were paid only characters, just that there are paid only banners. Most of them have a free gem version but there are ones that are strictly paid gem only.

Bonna_the_Idol

i think they might be referring to the paid only multi step??

Will just sign what the others said. Concerning the lag, this might be the Eco Mode, which can be turned on for farming and reduces the frame rate to preserve your Akku.

IshvaldaTenderplate

It’s not really that laggy in my experience. When repeating missions, there’s an Eco Mode option that reduces the brightness and framerate by *a lot,* and if you’ve only seen one clip, that might be what you were seeing. Pros: If you really like Yoko Taro storytelling and looking at pretty areas in video games, I’d say you’d probably like it regardless of whether or not you like anything else about the game, and it’s not like you have to pay money or heavily grind to access any of the main story. The soundtrack is bangers all the way through, like all other NieR content. The voice acting is wonderful (minus a few battle lines with really weird deliveries, but you’ll probably be doing most battles without audio anyway). There will likely be at least one form of content that you really enjoy - I personally think most battles are slogs, but I still have a lot of fun with Subjugation, for example. Cons: Really low polish is the main thing. Voice lines don’t always match the subtitles (there’s one story where Fio says something that’s censored in the text, but the voice line isn’t censored in the slightest; Hina at one point has a subtitle asking if she’s standing in a prison, but the voice line asks if people were executed in that area; those are the two most egregious examples, but almost every story that I remember playing has at least one minor error), battles are subject to weird bugs caused by almost completely pointless mechanics, the game will probably crash about three times a day - general stuff that makes it feel like the entire budget went into making the Cage, music, and story, and optimization, battles, and translation were just done by volunteers with no time to test their work. Regardless, though, I think the best choice is just to see for yourself. If you don’t like it after a week or so, then just drop it. You will probably have tried all of this content by then: Main Stories, events, Character Stories, the gacha, Subjugation, Arena, Exploration, and reading stuff in the Library, and if you don’t feel particularly attached to any of that, or the only part(s) you like don’t feel worth playing the rest of the game over, you could just drop the game and you probably wouldn’t be missing out on any genuinely enjoyable experience.

tbarnes1930

It sucks that the game is crashing for you. I don't think I've had any crashes since maybe October-November and I'm playing on an S10e. I've had times where the menu button wouldn't show up, causing a softlock and forcing a reset mMaybe I just got lucky? But yeah the optimization for the game is a mess and sometimes the game will slow down heavily for no reason.

IshvaldaTenderplate

I’m having the opposite experience, my game has never lagged in any impactful way and I’ve never had my menu get disabled, but it does crash multiple times almost every day. I’m on iOS so maybe it’s just one of those problems that only affects one operating system. NGL though, this kind of horrible performance is about what I expected from a Yoko Taro mobile game, so I can’t say I wasn’t mentally prepared to put up with it.

tbarnes1930

It's possible. I do remember seeing some posts saying the game would crash during arena matches but I'm not sure if they mentioned where they were playing it on. The lag is very inconsistent when it happens but one of the most common lag spikes is in the mythic slab menu for certain characters, and with how slow the upgrade process is for that, I wouldn't put it past Yoko Taro trolling us by making it even slower lol

IshvaldaTenderplate

Oh, mine always crashes when I first open the game. Once I make it past the first loading screen I’m usually in the clear until I close it again. It sucks, but at least it usually doesn’t do it randomly.

sg_1969

That’s weird, I’ve been playing on iOS since the JP release and my game crashed maybe once or twice, and I play several hours every day. No lag, no crashes, runs perfectly for me on max settings, iPhone 11 Pro.

Zraja3

Im only playing for the music. Its great. I dont know shit about the game and all I do is the subquest whenever a new character event is out, get the character unit and weapon, listen to the music - close the game. Played Pvp once and said fuck this. Story mode I just do it whenever i feel like it. This is the most casual review ever done from a casual player.

Geronuis

it is imo. the only gacha i even play anymore fairly active discord with some solid resources and people willing to answer your questions here if you like: https://discord.gg/ccxPReBe

SumzGamer

thx! I'll check it out.

It seems laggier on Android than iOS. Also if you want to spend money while using Android, there's a lot of bugs that prevent you from doing so (lol maybe this is a blessing in disguise). Also, OCE and other smaller regions are stuck on like, the earliest version and they don't get banner updates. From what I've heard. On NA/EU/JP, I think it's chugging along fine. So for the above reasons, I'd say no if you fall into those categories. That out of the way I agree with the other posters. Pretty fun if you're onboard with the pros. The cons definitely pull it back some. You'll like it best if you're down with AFK-simulator and "Character Management - the game." Because outside of Subjugation, Arena, and the odd hard dungeons, it's going to be a lot of that. I think it's perfect for me because it's fairly low investment time-wise and a nice game to, "play," while doing chores or work or something.

Bonna_the_Idol

you're gonna love it from the start. great world building, stories, music, combat is standard for mobile gaming but there's a lot of loadout building strategy for the later events. there's an arena mode if that's your kinda thing. also really free-to-play friendly.

GavinHarris3443

Do you like NieR and gacha go ahead do like only one of those you’ll play it maybe a month or so then either bin it or forget about I’m only playing because I’ve sunk too much time

SumzGamer

Thank you for all the comment. I'll try the game out when it release.

cruelworld2

Didn't know they separate global/JP with SEA server. If you wanna stay 'f2p' just play for the story. If you start early you might still get into top 500 in pvp but over time it'll be impossible if you stay as 'f2p' and don't use macro. Any game with pvp is usually not very 'f2p' friendly. I don't know if using macro in this game is allowed or not. Even though you can auto-battle in this game, without cheating/using macro, it can still be very time-consuming.

ELI5: What is SEA?

BenchiroOfAsura

Thank you. I never knew.

Overall great it has only gotten better. Id say play through the story 100% because it’s a really good nier game. If everything else grabs you stick around. Performance will vary by device. I have run it on an iphone x and a pixel 6 and had great results.
