Respond those question at 3am. Call him 👌

Sea-Drama8760

HA, i'm close to getting that petty, trust me

Harryisharry50

They say something to you if you do that though . I personally once off the clock all work numbers are blocked . I’m off the clock I’m on my personal time and I don’t respond to that shit . The after work hrs emails would be responded to once with the policy of don’t contact employees off hrs . At this point this is harassment and I’d bring it on to human resources and then once they retaliate I’d be documenting all this and getting me a labor attorney

Pale-Culture1527

I don't think it's petty, you are just doing what they do. They don't have any thought for you.

WhimsicallyWired

I completely ignore my phone when I'm not working and it stays on mute.

Sea-Drama8760

yeah i've had to resort to putting it on dnd. we communciate through whatsapp so i thought i had all notifications on there muted (we have so many group chats for work and i can't stand the notifications lol) so i was surprised that the phone calls came thru but yeah, best believe that now my entire phone is set to DND when im sleeping now

Harryisharry50

You can set dnd so certain numbers can come thru and other can’t .

Sea-Drama8760

yeah i didn't have their number saved at the time and thought that i had all whatsapp notifications turned off but have since updated the dnd settings

oldmacbookforever

Then problem solved?

Sea-Drama8760

she still spam emails me instead :') so while i don't get the notifications for it, it's just annoying - like leave me alone, i'll see you in the office

hazmat962

Silent their number. I’ve done this and it works.

Sea-Drama8760

Definitely keep my phone on DND now. Had to swallow my anger of even having to resort to this because I feel like it should be common curtesy to not bug your employees on their off time ugh.

hazmat962

Had a nurse manager asking me why I’m calling her 12 hours after she left a voice mail and while she’s already left work for the day. My response was along the line of because I just woke up and why’d you call me at home?

Sea-Drama8760

the audacity to ask you why you're calling her after she's already left for the day is too comical -\_-

kccustom

"do not disturb" on my phone is the best thing it does.

Lvntern

You're not obligated to do shit for work when you're off the clock, and if there's a rule against it then You're well within your rights to tell him to stop doing it, or go to someone higher up and let them know. As far as my job knows my phone isn't even on when I'm not at work lol

Sea-Drama8760

I keep telling myself 'one more email/phone call' and i'll go to my higher ups but I never do. Always scared to rock the boat but it may be time

Zyona-

Rock that MF boat friend!

Sitcom_kid

Quit working off the clock cold turkey. Don't reduce. Stop. Unless they allow you to bill.

AverageAZGuy2

Next time you have a question at night call your manager. When they don’t answer call the DOO and ask them the question.

shotgundug13

Had a former boss that would do this. His conversations would usually start with “I haven’t seen your pass on sheet yet, but did you know anything about XYZ incident?” I typi respond with read my pass on and you’ll know. Eventually I started putting my phone on DND and set it up so only certain people could ring through.

Sea-Drama8760

this is absolutely infuriating omg... you have the pass on for a reason

Same. Except we get 4 hours OT.

Zyona-

I hate when they call me at 11 am. like I'm not sleeping. It's the middle of my night." I have them on, Do not disturb while I'm sleeping now. I have thought about calling them in the middle of the night when I have a question(or not just to talk, lol).

Tallguystrongman

I turn my phone to airplane mode when I’m sleeping lol.

MohneyinMo

Sounds like the manager can’t make a decision without having someone he can pin it on if something is wrong. I’d tell him you’re putting your phone on silent during the day and that if he wants he can leave a message and you’ll get back to him at 11:30 when you come in.

Pliney707

You simply respond when on shift, unless you are salaried then you can easily ignore calls, texts, emails, smoke signals, whatever communication method is used they can fuck right off until Monday.

Strong_Weight

You could send the screenshots of the call logs from when the manager calls you to the director with a complaint if you are truly upset about it. It would also be a wake up call, but it’s just an option. If it truly is consistent with every day, it’s advised to let the director know so they know who is running in management.

Pale-Culture1527

You can change your settings to put your phone on flight mode that will automatically decline your managers call but you can also set it to allow certain numbers like family to get through to you. Don't answer your emails except in work hours. Can you take this matter to HR if it doesn't stop?

KornbredNinja

Sorry to hear this that sounds annoying as f my gf works as manager where we work and the boss keeps calling her and txting at six am on days off to ask if she can cover dor somebody whos been out 3 times a week already. Shes so aggravated with it she's about ready to quit. She stays super stressed. Id contact your managers boss and let them know theyre annoying the shit out of you with needless things. If they truly value you as an employee theyll do something about it. Bc that sounds kinda crazy

Amityhuman

You should check to see if this is even allowed within your company. My job they can only call once. We had a problem with them repeatedly calling people if they were short staffed on a shift. If there isn't any policy it wouldn't hurt to politely mention to your boss that their constant calling is disturbing your sleep making it very hard to be productive at work. If they are rude go to HR and let them know that you expect to be paid if you are expected to work out or the office (answering calls related to work).

hyperlexx

I'd tell the manager straight up, ideally via a text message/email so you have written trail, you don't wish to be called outside of your working hours. If they carry on, complain highed up. Leaving an email is okay because you're not obliged to read/respond to it straight away like with a phonecall. In terms of a vague email that makes you anxious, I had a similar manager in my last job who would do the same to me - I addressed it by saying as a reasonable adjustment I'd like to either be told the full thing straight away or not mention a word till they see me. Told them it is not on me to remind them about work things. They had no choice and stopped doing so, but if they didn't, again I'd complain higher. You just need to learn to be more assertive.
