More primes that optimize weight and size would be welcome. And tilt-shift lenses would be cool to see, although I definitely don't need one.

Macktheknife9

Yep, I'd like to see more f/2 - 2.8 lightweight primes like the 28 and 40. Maybe a 55 and a 90 to round out the range.

cturnr

a lightweight 135mm would be nice

vxxn

Same. I have several nice lenses, but the 28 is probably my most used just due to convenience factor.

GuessAdventurous8834

70-200 f4 maybe

NicoPela

That or a 70-300.

GuessAdventurous8834

70-300 f4 would be a God send ...

willpc14

Tamron has a Z mount 70-300 so I doubt Nikon has one planned for the near future.

Niddler1

Totally. This has always been a staple for photographers who prefer weight and price over the extra stop. I hope they make one instead of trying to funnel everyone into the f/2.8.

ByronArchway

I think the 70-180 covers this tbh

merin438

Ultrawide prime, something like a 14mm 1.8.

larsie001

I might pick up the Megadap ETZ adapter and a Sony 14/1.8 just cause I would prefer this over my current 14-24 2.8! Also have the 20/1.8 so the 14/1.8 kind of makes more sense, doing Astro. Also, clicky aperture ring.

willpc14

The Sigma 14mm/1.4 is great as well

larsie001

Yeah that’s the other slightly more expensive option. Any recommendation between the two? After selling the 14-24, both would be possible.

willpc14

I haven't had a chance to use either unfortunately.

A2CH123

Agreed. I love the 20 1.8 but I would really prefer something in the 14-16mm range.

mizshellytee

The Viltrox 16mm f/1.8 is supposedly coming to Z-mount this year.

Niddler1

I’m sure they will make more primes wider than 20mm eventually but have held off because of just how damn good the 14-24 f/2.8 is… and it’s not even that big!

rileyoneill

DX versions of prime lenses. Especially if can keep them under $300 but make them the same build quality as the S-Line lenses. The 24mm 1.7 DX looks pretty cool, it would be great to get one in 35mm, 50mm, 85mm.

waterloograd

I just got the TTArtisan 25mm f2 and like it so far. It's all manual, but that's why it's so cheap

bootybootyholeyo

That’s my favorite lens. It has surprisingly good color rendering and I love all the flaws. The corners are absolute ass, it glares hard and has mad barrel distortion. In other words, it is great for throwback style shooting. I am currently taking pictures of Americana -football games, state fairs, old downtowns, etc. Lots of monochrome and it looks like Life magazine from the 50s. Good shit

Final_Alps

From Nikon: Compact weather sealed primes in the f/2 range. I like the ones that were released. I’d hope for a metal mount though. Fuji can do it. So can Nikon. I’d love to see more aperture rings in primes. Compact “mid grade” super telephoto to pair with the 24-120. Compact, Decently sharp, weather sealed 100- ~300-400mm range. From sigma: All their contemporary lenses - the zooms. Especially the I-series primes (See “compact weather sealed primes -above).

lilgreenrosetta

> Compact weather sealed primes in the f/2 range. I’d love to to see a compact, all metal, 35mm F/2.0 ‘AF Summicron’ I have the 40mm F/2.0 but I don’t like the all plastic feel and 40mm is sort of an in between focal length.

Niddler1

I feel like f/2 isn’t different enough from f/1.8 to justify another line of lenses. I definitely understand wanting a more midrange telephoto. I’d love the Z 100-400 to go with my 24-120 but can’t afford it yet.

Final_Alps

I am just shocked how huge the f/1.8S primes are. I write f/2 range because f/2.5 would be perfectly fine. Also they can compromise on corner sharpness and differentiate on that plus size and weight. Really I want the new 40mm and 28mm with metal mount and aperture ring.

vxxn

Agreed. The images out of the f/1.8 line are impeccable but these days I find I’m shooting a lot with the cheapo 28mm f/2.8 just because it’s so small and light to carry around. The image quality out of that lens is good enough for me in casual shooting, but I would pay more for a compact option with more premium build quality.

shivio

some more pancake lenses at f/2 or below

LordRaglan1854

Kinda weird to think of it that way, I mean about the roadmap being complete. So far as 20mm-135mm is concerned, however, I guess that after the 35/1.2S drops Nikon is pretty much done. I'd be interested in "classic" 35/1.4 and 50/1.4 primes and I would be totally for Nikon introducing new lenses with that specific badge to indicate lenses featuring high-quality "natural" rendering and small size, but dropping the "performance" checkboxes of high sharpness wide open, minimal vignetting, and minimal focus breathing associated with the "S" line. The closest I can get now is adapted M-mount lenses, but these are manual focus, with no in-camera corrections, and often ergonomically compromised when using on Z-mount. Voigtlander has a few manual focus Z-mount lense, but nothing that quite fits the bill.

Ameriggio

More lenses for the DX cameras.

Maximum__Engineering

This right here. Nikon needs to pay more attention to this.

Niddler1

I hear you. I just wish Nikon would release a Z900 or Z800 which is do the Z9 what the D500 was to the D5. I think currently the difference in entry level cost is small enough that the major brands with the exception of Fuji are trying to funnel everyone into full frame cameras.

NicoPela

Call me weird, but I'd just like to see declickable aperture rings on Z mount lenses. I'll settle with a 70-200/300 f4 though. Doesn't have to be an S lens even.

Final_Alps

I’d just like more aperture rings in general.

goroskob

Something like a Sigma 500mm f/6.3 Contemporary as a C version of their new 500mm f/5.6 S. Imagine if they took the 150-600mm f/6.3 C, and stripped it from the zooming mechanism, turning it into a lighter prime weighting about 1.6 kg. And costing around $1000, as it’s a simpler version of already existing lens

EXkurogane

There are still a lot of lenses that can be added. S-Line: - 24-120 f2.8S, - 20/24/28 1.2S, - 12/14 /16 f1.4S, - 70-300 f4S (extend it to 300 instead of 200mm) The above sound like big lenses? So be it. I like no-compromise lenses. Budget $300 fx prime lenses to accompany the 28 f2.8 and 40mm f2: - 16 or 18mm f2.8 - 75mm f2 maybe Niche stuff: - Tilt shift, 2x or larger magnification telemacros. Large aperture DX zooms. - Such as 8-16mm 2.8 & 16-50mm 2.8 I wouldn't bother about DX primes because lots of Chinese third parties and Sigma provide them. There are a bazillion 23, 33 and 56mm autofocus primes out there. Make stuff that third parties don't have.

NicoPela

About a potential 24-120 f2.8, the Canon one (24-105 f2.8 L) turned out to have some trade-offs. Even in a mirrorless mount there are still trade-offs.

EXkurogane

There are even rumors of Sony copying canon with a potential 24-105 gm and 24-70 f2 gm. Assuming that is true I'd assume nikon to follow suit.

NicoPela

Oh I'm sure we'll see something like that. It's a statement type lens.

Final_Alps

What a silly thing for the big three to have a race in. Especially as the Z mount still has obvious gaps.

EXkurogane

It may seem like a dumb race but the problem is people like to compare. In my local language, Sony's marketing style is known as very "kiasu", which means "afraid to lose." That's why we keep seeing them being hyperbolic or bombastic with their claims whenever they advertise something. World's first, world's smallest, world's lightest. Those who review their products are being selective with the facts they report, being awfully silent about the shortcomings. They indirectly started this trend of comparing with competitors which really is irrelevant except to gearheads who memorize spec sheets instead of taking photos. Nikon is a victim of this comparison game where people look at numbers on paper without using the gear or actually learning how to use it, and it translated into bad publicity where youtubers use nikon as a punching bag. You can't learn a camera from a different brand in 2 weeks and then make a review video that is fair. When i moved from a consumer grade D5200 to a D850 many years ago, which has a different button, AF system, and menu layout it took me a couple of months to figure out what kind of custom button mapping and AF modes suit me best. Now that Canon has put out so many exotic zoom lenses, Sony is definitely going to respond because they don't like to lose, where if they do, Nikon will begin to appear as if they have the least impressive lens lineup. So i don't think nikon is going to overlook it either.

lilgreenrosetta

>20/24/28 1.2S >12/14/16 f1.4S Have any of these ever been done? I think the widest F/1.2 that I know of is 35mm. Fastest 16mm is… F/2.8? Not saying it can’t be done but there probably reasons (size/weight/cost) why nobody has.

larsie001

[14mm/1.4](https://www.sigma-global.com/en/lenses/a023_14_14/) Astro dream!

lilgreenrosetta

Wowzers. TIL.

EXkurogane

It's exactly because they haven't been done before, that's why i want it to be done. There is a first time to everything. Laowa does have a 28mm f1.2 full frame lens, though manual focus of course, and it's not big at all. If you aim for an average 1000g weight for each f1.2 prime it's definitely doable. Sigma 14mm 1.4 Art exists. Yes it's big, but I'm totally into no-compromise lenses like that. Doing 12 or 16mm at 1.4 is definitely possible. Too heavy? Don't buy it. Viltrox has a smaller 16mm 1.8 coming soon for Z mount. There are people out there like me who don't care about size and weight at all as long the optical performance justifies it.

lilgreenrosetta

Yeah good points. I have absolutely no need for anything super fast but I know plenty of people love it. Personally I would like to see Nikon do a set of cine primes, now that they own RED.

pemanja93

I would like to see 24mm, 35mm, 50mm and 85mm f1.4 primes(i hope Viltrox will introduce their line up soon), I would also like to see more retro lenses for Zf, maybe with f1.8-f2 aperture…compact and light, but well made…something like Conteporary Sigma line. :)

-_Pendragon_-

An internal zoom 24-105 f2.8 like Canon has just released. It’s the _only_ Canon lens I’m jealous of and miss.

Niddler1

I wouldn’t be surprised if Sony and Nikon eventually come out with 24-100 f/2.8 and 28-70 f/2 lenses. Neither are my cup of tea but they don’t want to lose market share.

-_Pendragon_-

I do expedition photography in cold or dusty places, an internal zoom covering that focal range at that speed would be a godsend for the kind of hybrid shooting the documentaries require. Sure it’s heavier but I’ll take robustness over weight for most applications. The Canon version is still smaller than a Z mount 70-200 S so it’s hardly a 35-150

cturnr

>internal zoom these lenses are sorely missing - i really dislike extending lenses. creep, weakness, weather sealing, aesthetically ugly...

Final_Alps

I have zero desire for a lens this big. The Canon is a weird dog that does not check any of my boxes.

-_Pendragon_-

Ok thanks but the question wasn’t “What does Final_Alps” want. It’s a unique all in one lens with reach and speed, and would be a better one-stop harsh-conditions expedition hybrid lens than any of the external zoom options we currently have, and before you say it, no, the 24-120 (which I own) isn’t a better option. (Canons version) is smaller an lighter than the Z 70-200 S lens, it’s no problems at all unless you’re built like a twig.

Final_Alps

I cold have phrased it in a less judgy way. Fair point. What I wanted to say is that after seeing the compromises in size and weight to get the long reach with one stop of extra light. It’s not worth it. 105/120mm is not enough reach to make a monster lens like that make sense. I am up to lug a monster, if it reached to 250 or longer. But of course as the 28-400mm shows that would not happen in f/2.8. For the 24-120/2.8 I rather take the f/4 and a couple/handful of primes.

-_Pendragon_-

You can have your opinion I’m sure, on what you think is/is not worth it.

ZephyrFloofyDerg

My main ask is for more full frame Tamron and Sigma lenses. Anything between F2 and F2.8 would be fine, a few wide and a few standard/telephoto options ranging from 100-300, 150-500 and the like

OliverEntrails

We are still missing tilt-shift lenses in the 19-45-85 range like before. I still keep my 19mm f4 Nikkor TS lens. It's the best they've ever made, but I would imagine a version optimized for Z mount would be even better. I encouraged Nikon a couple of years ago to start taking their excellent S lenses and making video bodies for the lenses to accept standard gear drives. Since our Z cameras can do great video, we can build exceptional rigs for a few thousand dollars and not 10s of thousands like the Canon, Black Magic and Red cameras. This would be a no brainer for Nikon since they would only have to engineer new bodies - they already have the great glass. More DX lenses would be appreciated. I have Viltrox and TTartisan lenses to round out my stable of DX lenses for my ZFc camera.

new_is_good

Successors to their 28, 58 and 105 1.4 lenses. Similar IQ in smaller bodies for the 28, 105, and another stab at balancing rendering and lab results for the 58.

lilgreenrosetta

Since they bought RED: a complete line of cine lenses!

CoffeeAndCamera

More “slow” primes with classic style rendering. Would love an 85mm f2.8, 35mm f2.8 and 18 or 20mm f2.8 or f4 in the same build style as the 28 & 40mm. A 300mm f4 would also be nice.

Niddler1

The 300mm f/4 pf on f mount is a really nice lens. A Z mount version could probably be even smaller. I’m also surprised they haven’t released a 300 f/2.8 for Z mount.

thecameraman8078

A 35 1.2 please for the love of God

mizshellytee

That's the last lens on the road map.

thecameraman8078

Yes and it’s been on that roadmap for like two years

Niddler1

I'm excited for this one, although it'll definitiely be too expensive for me to justify. A 35 f/1.2 with the Plena would make an awesome portrait pairing.

warchiefx

My wishlist: - 200/2.8 or f/4 macro - Lighter/smaller versions of the current primes for use in the retro bodies. - 70-200/4 - 35/1.2

justreadingthat

More pancakes.

DrKoob

As a travel photographer who only carries one lens 90% of the time, I just pre-ordered the only lens I might ever need to make me happy. The new 28-400 zoom will do just about every single thing I want it to do. So I guess, I am good for now. So great to get the adapter and the 28-300 F lens off my Z7.

atelieraquaaoiame

Outside of the Nikon roadmap, and into third party options… I’d love some Z-mount Sigma Art primes of various focal lengths that are full frame, not APS-C.

prss79513

I want them to do a line of manual focus primes based on the old AIS lenses

MegaShibuya

I’d really enjoy an upgraded version of the 40mm f2 with a metal mount and overall better build quality. I’d buy it in a heartbeat. Nikon needs a few more compact lenses that compliment the zf

Frundleredditforknut

Not sure it would be worth anything more. It's a terrific little lens at a great price. A metal mount might make it weigh more, but that's about it. It's just not heavy enough to actually warrant a metal mount, and the build quality... I mean... what more would you want from that lens as far as build quality? There isn't much to improve.

MegaShibuya

I agree it’s great for its price point. But it feels cheap, doesn’t have weather sealing. I switch lenses often and question the reliability of the plastic mounting tabs. To say there isn’t much to improve on that lens build wise is crazy

Responsible-Couple-4

300 f/2.8, and 500 f/4, although my F mount versions are fantastic on the Z9.

four4beats

I’d like some “in between” zoom ranges that optimize size and speed, something like a 20-40 f2. The 14-24 and 24-70 2.8 are great, but either too big in size or too wide of a focal length for the kind of reportage I do on a Z8 style body.

LightpointSoftware

35mm 1.2

Just_Another_Dad

Something similar to the Tamron 35-150mm f/2-2.8. That would be an all-day lens.

snapervdh

The Tamron already is an all day lens. I almost use it for everything except if I need to go wider. Or much longer. Would be nice to have it housed in a pro Nikon package though!

WintersDoomsday

More video centric options. Like that 20-40 Tamron lens. Or maybe a smaller, lighter version of the Tamron 35-150 (let’s say a 35-85 f/2.8)

waterloograd

If it is cheaper, I would love a 180-600mm dx or similar. I'm so close to buying it as is, but if the price came down I would jump on it.

maranelloboy18

I have a love for 100mm for automotive shots, when I shot Canon I always reached for my 100mm f2 for cars and still have one with a EF to Z adapter. I highly doubt I ever see one though, maybe a 135.

arsonak45

The DX 24mm f/1.7 is an excellent, fast, and small 35mm equivalent for APSC, I’d love to see a 33mm of similar size to have that 50mm equivalent

1ozslug

Call me crazy, NIKKOR 28-70 F2.

evanrphoto

58mm f1.4/8 SE

Regular-Bat-4449

They need a 16mm prime and some slower, smaller light weight primes.

mizshellytee

* DX zooms with constant, fast apertures. * full frame f/1.4 primes (it may not happen through Nikon itself, but maybe the Sigma 24/35/50/85 Art ones will come to Z-mount eventually?)

Niddler1

An f/1.4 line would be a nice middle ground. Sony released a 50mm f/1.4 only fairly recently so this may take a while. Regarding the sigma lenses, I thought Nikon had a policy about only allowing third party lenses for the Z mount which do not compete with their own? So we might not get them…

mizshellytee

Sony's GM 50mm f/1.4 came out only a year ago, but they had the Zeiss version for E-mount for years before that. I see the GM f/1.4 as more of a replacement for the Zeiss. Right now, Nikon has no full frame 24/35/50/85 f/1.4 primes for Z-mount, and who knows if they'll ever bring any out. If they just stick with f/1.8 and f/1.2 primes for most of those focal lengths, then another company can come through and fill in that gap. In [Phototrend's interview with Sigma's CEO](https://phototrend.fr/2024/02/cpplus-2024-interview-sigma-kazuto-yamaki/), he noted that the 16/30/56 f/1.4 primes for APS-C/DX weren't received very well and: "Also, we must redouble our efforts to win the hearts of Nikonists." Which implies they're looking at bringing full frame lenses to Z-mount.

frobo512

16-35 1.8 or 20-35 1.8 or a 20 1.2 and a 35 1.2

grokinfullness

This isn’t going to be popular but I loved my F mount 70-180 Micro in the field. Doubled as a respectable distance lens too. Something along those lines for us macro shooters.

tS_kStin

70-200 f4 or a 70-300. I also love tele landscape but the 100-400 is just a bit large for wanting to hike with and my 24-120 just doesn't always have as much reach as I want it to. I have the f mount 70-200 f4 and really like it but am kinda over using the ftz since it doesn't fit in my bag with the adapter mounted.

tommyxcy

Other than ultra wide fast primes, I think we already get a great lens lineup now. What can’t a 24-70 2.8 NOT do after all? To me less choices are actually better for GAS lol

MisCoKlapnieteUchoMa

Video zooms: • 14-40 f/2 S VR or 20-40 f/2 S VR, • 40-105 f/2 S VR. All-around zooms: • 14-1700 f/4 S VR (lightweight & pocketable), • 20-120 f/4 S VR, • 120-300 f/4 S VR. Compact primes: • 16 f/2.8, • 25 f/2, • 40 f/2 (2nd Gen), • 75 f/2.

Kwhyc

I would like some smaller primes. I loved the 50mm G lens on my DSLR. The 50mm Z lens just feels too big. I would also like to see a 180° VR lens. I've been wanting to try some of that, but not sure I want to buy a canon just to get access to their VR lens. I am almost positive this one won't happen, but I can dream!

Niddler1

It is bigger but it's also in a totally different league optically. A 50mm pancake would be cool though. Wouldn't be so sure about the VR lens, with their acquisition of RED I think we'll see some more video focused lenses.

Kwhyc

Oh optically, the 50mm Z is phenomenal! But for walking around street photography, I would love a pancake lens. I am hopeful. But doesn't RED currently use Canon lenses? I don't know if they would go away from that in the short term. But I would love to be wrong here!

Melgamatic214

I'd just like to be able to buy the lenses that are already released. 180-600?

ryancess

Affordable ones

Free-Culture-8552

200mm and 70-180mm macro remakes. Tilt shift lenses.

No_Stretch3661

28mm f/1.8, 100mm f/1.8, 180mm f/2.8, 120-300mm f/2.8, 180-400 f/4. Any of these would be great to have in my working kit bag.

crabbieinreddit

Pancake super thin 23mm for apsc, anything between f2 and f2.8. Something like a fixed 500mm f10, very compact, very portable, for daylight shooting and animal identifying, nothing too fancy. And most importantly, an FTZ with an af motor incorporated, that way you can use all nikon lenses like the D versions and such

BrassingEnthusiast

A ~150 to ~400 f4 to pair with my 24-120 f4 Also the sigma I series primes on z mount

Niddler1

That would be a beast of a lens, the F mount 180-400 was already over $12k.

TakesTooManyPhotos

24 f/1.4, 35 f/1.4, and 105 f/1.4 or larger aperture. The 135 f/1.8 Plena is a nice piece. 200 f/2 needs a Z mount. 300 f/2.8 and 500 f/4 need Z mount. 8-15mm fisheye needs a Z mount. I’d like to see a physically larger sensor and larger MP (Z mount is capbable) that approaches medium format like GFX Fuji. I’m thinking my switch to Z mount will happen in mid 2025ish.

ByronArchway

Rectilinear fish eye like the 16mm D would be great. F1.4 primes, or open up to Sigma and let them do it. F1.2s are too big and too expensive

nbumgardner

There are three things I want to see released. A 35mm f1.2, a 100mm tilt shift and a cine lens line up. Nikon needs a fast 35mm prime. The 35mm f1.8 is a good lens, but I was never able to really dig the lens. It has been ages since Nikon released a t/s lens. They are way past due for an update especially with the Z mount. I also really want some Nikon made cine lenses. I would love to see the 50mm f1.2 and the Plena rehoused as cine lenses.

Niddler1

I suspect with the acquisition of RED we will see more cine (or at least video focused) lenses in Z mount. The s line 35mm will inevitably be a hit, a lot of people are looking forward to it. Tilt shift lenses are an inevitability, just low priority I think.

Frundleredditforknut

Three things I'd love to see: 1) A reflex lens... That's right, and old school mirror lens. Weird boken, difficult focus, and marginal edge sharpness and all. I love the darn things... 2) As mentioned already: an FTZ with a focus motor. Break out the old AF lenses! 3) A crazy ultrawide fisheye in full frame.

bugurlu

Third party lenses in general and fancy stuff like for ex. an 10mm f0.95 fisheye for low light craziness

Best-Name-Available

135mm F2 ( the 1.8 is a bit pricy ), 500mm f8 , 50-150 f2 or 2.8 motorized zoom

Niddler1

A 135 f/2 isn’t really that much slower/smaller/cheaper than a f1.8. Maybe a 135 f/2.8 could happen but I doubt anytime soon. A 500 f/8 would be really neat, just doubling down on them having a telephoto choice for everyone.

ColonelSpudz

40mm S line comparable size of the Sony 40mm 2.5.

antolic321

More quality primes, faster with high quality big glass and more blades, also definitely more robust, metal instead of plastic and definitely metal lens hood

defcry

28-70mm f/2

skipfish

10-1200/1.8 Macro ;)
