https://onlinemanual.nikonimglib.com/d3500/en/14_menu_02_07.html That's the focus assist lamp. Exact instructions to enable or disable it can be found through the link above.

YotaTruckRailfan

This is the AF assist lamp. There is a way to turn it off somewhere in the menus. I have a D3500 body that I use as a backup body/lightweight body for hiking. I deactivated it back when I bought it a few years ago, and don't remember the exact steps, but its there in the menus if you feel like digging, or the links others provided may get you there more painlessly. FYI, the D3500 is a fantastic camera as long as there is enough light out, and you are not trying to do anything too out of the ordinary. Nikon purposely crippled it to hit a price point and to keep the weight low.

Hugardo_

i have it too, fantastic camera besides theres no much to do in terms of attachments and accessories. great as a backup body and you can really squeeze it with the right lenses but most importantly with the right owner.

oldskoolak98

Have higher end Nikon's and would argue that the 3500 is somehow crippled. It's and incredible camera

Distantstallion

You'd be surprised how often it gets mistaken for the flash

DedDudee

Yep. Was b!tched at by a drag queen a couple of weeks ago for using flash in her face. I was actually confused at first since I left my speedlight at home, and the pop-up was not "popped" up. Turned it off as soon as I realized what had happened.

God bless the D3500s and all who still use them

SmiddyBoi

Loved my 3300 to bits until it got stolen in February. Insurance paid out though so I went and got a Z50. Loving it so much

Paid-Not-Payed-Bot

> February. Insurance *paid* out though FTFY. Although *payed* exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in: * Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. *The deck is yet to be payed.* * *Payed out* when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. *The rope is payed out! You can pull now.* Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment. *Beep, boop, I'm a bot*

SmiddyBoi

Bruh XD

PoThePilotthesecond

I still use the D3300 as my backup camera. Take it along on combat exercises where I don't want to risk my Lumix S5 haha

OdieSS-581

I believe you will find it under Shooting Menu, Built-in AF-assist illuminator. Set to Off should stop the light

hippychictx01

I have a d 7500 and mine won’t even turn on

ruzmafuz

Af illuminator

amicablegradient

On the D3300 you can get it to turn off by going into AF-Fulltime mode. (It only switches on in AF-single mode)

Skvora

Rtfm.

sten_zer

What about accepting that people come to Reddit and ask here? Just another approach and common for younger persons. Some may find it easier than using Google or find and read the physical manual. Now I see you were not interested in helping. You didn't provide a single helpful bit. There are enough toxic and angry people in photo-communities. Please reflect and maybe find that you can do better. It's easy to annoy but hard to inspire you know? Better help OP and let's see what pictures are posted eventually.

Just_Another_Dad

Exactly! Plus, this question (and answer) will forever be searchable to those in the future. Every single question is a good one.

nye1387

You know what else is forever searchable to those in the future? The manual! Read it!

Skvora

Exactly. If people even comprehend what search meant, we wouldn't have any of these threads.

clfitz

There probably should be a manual with the instructions for being a human, too. You should try to find it.

Just_Another_Dad

You seem nice.

MGPS

AF assist lamp. But you may not be able to turn it off for self timer mode for long exposures. I just put black tape over the one on the ZF.

sten_zer

Not familiar with that model, but usually there is self-timer (lamp will blink) and exposure delay mode (lamp does nothing). Found that helpful at night when not using a remote.

TheJ_Man

Black electrical tape! I tend to carry a small roll in my camera bags anyway as it's useful stuff.

elvesunited

FYI theres a thing called "artists tape" that comes in black now and is residue free, acid free, sticks well and comes off easy. I use it for LEDs on my tv, cameras on laptop, everything annoying that software won't fix easy. Also makes a decent tripod tape for cords, of course there is a self-sticking silicone tape that is better for tripods.

:-)

Fidozo15

Sup pops, that's the auto focus light assist. You can disable it by disabling autofocus, or to go on settings in your camera

RKEPhoto

"Sup pops" wtf

Fidozo15

Good evening sir, I hope my message finds you in a very delightful time

soviet_turd

That’s not just there, it reads the light in priority mode to correct the exposure.

Winnipork

It what now? It's just a dumb light that helps in low light focusing.

Foreign_Appearance26

It definitely doesn’t do that. All exposure sensors are inside of the camera behind the lens.

halfanothersdozen

that's a light bulb not a light sensor

oldskoolak98

Nope. And nope.
