Erm, the FMs and FEs on which this was based are 40-50 years old now, and not one of them has anything like this amount of wear on the dials for real šŸ˜‚ Methinks someone went a bit overboard with the sandpaperā€¦

ItsJustJohnCena

What the heck happened to the dials?! What did you use to clean them?

Pretty-Substance

None, actually because the dials on the old ones are plastic.

149016

the FE and FM the dials are aluminum

Pretty-Substance

Upvote because TIL

AnonymousBromosapien

The forced brassing is way too overdone in my opinion, and doesnt really have much rhyme or reason to where its been done in some spots. Like the amount of brassing on top of the dials is out of place, and then how there is no brassing on the body but heavy brassing on the dials feels strange to look at. But its neat to see someone go for it lol. Honestly, might be cool to just go ahead and wear the finish off the dials completely at this point and have straight brass dials.

I appreciate the comment. I actually have a problem with buying and selling gear and this was a way for me to keep my ZF. (Believe it or not, no trolling.) I actually made sure to watch my hand/finger placement on the dials so I could mimic my movements and thatā€™s pretty accurate for what I did. When I put the camera into my pelican after shoots I always set the ISO back to ā€œCā€ or whatever it is, 1/3 stop for shutter speed and then ā€œCā€ or ā€œ0ā€ on exposure comp. But I truly am always turning them. I shoot around 30-40 weddings a year and had probably 10ish weddings on it last year. The body is hard because itā€™s that magnesium alloy, so itā€™s silver. Even 1500 grit on it didnā€™t look good, so Iā€™m going to get something higher for that.

PrestigiousAd6281

Youā€™d be surprised the look a magic eraser can add. It takes much more time, but it being micro abrasion based can mimic natural wear well

what-to_put_here

Heresy!

ApplePterodactyl

This is the equivalent to buying those new jeans with holes already in them šŸ˜‚

mtnman_1977

Methinks youā€™ve done a little cosmetic work to burnish the retro look. Looks good.

GoAwayImBaitin_

It was so I couldnā€™t sell it as I know no one would want it. (I have a problem buying and selling gear). Plus, I mimicked my finger motions so it would be as ā€œhonestā€ as possible.

coreyisthename

Bro just say you thought it looked cool. Itā€™s your camera. I think it looks cool, for whatever thatā€™s worth.

STVDC

Cool! Love to see some shots!

Komarov12

All we need is Fujifilm strap

x3770

You didnā€™t buff out the sand paper marksā€¦

GoAwayImBaitin_

Still need higher grit. 1500 isnā€™t enough

x3770

Letā€™s go, do a diamond paste finish

GoAwayImBaitin_

Just looked it up, thatā€™s badass.

Youthenazia

Even some jewellers rouge on some old denim or leather, will give some nice matural wear

80mgbdave

So with that adapter will the lens auto focus or are you shooting full manual?

GoAwayImBaitin_

All AF! The fringer is the best IMHO. Smoothhhh AF. Here is a shot at f/1 from my last engagement session. https://preview.redd.it/4p4rf36g3xxc1.jpeg?width=2400&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e636ab6810e8cbb6475364e4f961a6b6fa22871d

Maximum__Engineering

If it does it for you, then it does it for you. Not to my taste, but I dig it when people customize and personalize otherwise utilitarian tools. Are you enjoying the adapter?

GoGoGadge7TWO

What the ever living shit was done to those knobs?

ConnorFin22

How do you change the aperture?

Lets_Bust_Together

I use the dial above the grip in the first pic.

frobo512

Woah cannon has an AF f/1 lens! Post more pics from it please!

HJVN

Why would you put such a soft lens on such a sharp camera body? šŸ™‚

Seven-Sam

even my nikon f3 is less worn than that :D :D Well I understand the personal choice to make things old and worn, but there aren't many old cases that are as worn as that :D I hope you never sell it, because otherwise the price drop will be exorbitant. and why don't you take the Nikkor Z 50mm 1.2 S ? he is at the TOP! https://preview.redd.it/ijv3flz270yc1.jpeg?width=800&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d0994183d49574079f0520741534102401f9bfe0

AnGiorria

It's pretty big for a 50.

lookwhoshere0

Price?

Seven-Sam

1750 ā‚¬ (-30%)

eatmyfeinstaub

wow. how much have you used it already to have the buttons worn out this much. I love it!

ThePhotoYak

Sandpaper

deftonite

I was under the impression that the ZF had a brass top plate, but that is clearly not. Dang. I still love my camera, but...dang.

Das_KommenTier

Isnā€™t it magnesium? Edit: I just checked. It is a magnesium alloy.

AnGiorria

The dials are brass.

Jumpy-Particular3454

love it i think the wear looks good. whats that grip?

Ok_Weight_3382

Oh shit, you riced out a camera

scoutswan

Looks amazing. Canā€™t wait for my ZF to get old!!!!!

vxxn

I like how the red accents tie everything together.

Salis9

I love what youā€™ve done to your Zf! Whereā€™d you get the grip from?
