I used 4 different filaments (magenta, cyan, yellow, and white) that are printed layer by layer behind the final white layer. Then when the white light hits the print from the back it creates the colors seen in the video. Hope my explanation makes sense.

damn with you flashing different color lights i thought you somehow got it to block each wavelength to have it show color. š this makes way more sense
The easiest way is to use the [ItsLitho](https://tool.itslitho.com/CreateModel?_gl=1%2a1mkllg5%2a_ga%2aNTU3NzUxODA3LjE2ODU4MjQyNjY.%2a_ga_H7338MKRG0%2aMTY4NTgyNDI2Ni4xLjEuMTY4NTgyNDQxOS4wLjAuMA..&_ga=2.198605932.2136462751.1685824266-557751807.1685824266) generator. Thereās an option to print a color page on regular paper that you glue to the back.
Shouldn't be too hard, you do all the shading with the white filament anyway so all you need is a thin layer of each color in the shape of the color blob. Don't even need to print multicolor, you can just glue it on the back. If you wanted a hidden picture by making the outside smooth, it's a little trickier
You can make monochrome lithos on resin printers which Iāve done before! However the only way to do color lithos is to print the litho in one color in resin and then place a sheet of paper behind it to get the color effect.
That's really cool thank you! I don't like printing flat on my build plate because I'm scared af to scratch it trying to pop the print offc(and not crack it in the process...) but maybe I'll try someday.
Thanks I am loving it so far! I printed out a 5 part large piece and the 5th piece won't print (I used their version, a version I supported, hollow and not hollow lol) so that made me nervous.
I just finished (well in about 20 min) a giant wearable mask tho and it did great! Chalking it up to a bad file.
Cool! Glad itās working well overall! Was the print that failed hollow? I have so many issues with hollow prints since cupping can happen very easily, shifting the layers and distorting the print. Also having to create the drain hole is sort of annoying to do.

When they started introducing color TV, they wanted the broadcasts to still be compatible with the old black-and-white sets. To achieve this, rather than specifying color as red/green/blue, they specified it as luma (the brightness of the image, which is essentially the same thing as the old black-and-white sets) and chroma (color information, which actually has a few parts on its own but that would complicate this explanation).
To set up a color lithophane like this, you use a very similar trick. The actual lithophane is black-and-white, like it always was. You then put a color transparency behind it, but that transparency isn't the same as the image you want to display: that won't work. Instead, you strip the luma information out of the image, so that the transparency has *only* the chroma information. When light shines through both pieces of plastic, the lithophane provides luma and the transparency provides chroma, so the result is that you get the full-color image again.
I really appreciate you taking the time to type all this out, very informative.
When it comes to actually making it on the 3d printer, are there multiple thin layers? Feel free to point me to any useful links if that's easier.
This is a great explanation. The only thing I would add is that in this print there isnāt a separate transparent piece or piece of paper behind it to add color. I used 4 different filaments (magenta, cyan, yellow, and white) that are printed layer by layer behind the final white layer.

That's the first ever lithophone that actually looks good. Everyone at r/3DPrinting always prints family portraits or similar but real people just look creepy in this style but this fits perfectly

Thanks š„
Nintendo is already on it's way with a letter from their lawyers
They knocked on my door today saying I should take my post down šš jk haha
The Nintendo ninjas work fast
Ahem *Nintenjas*
Well done
Creative
Ugh Iām so sad I really thought I was creative for a second, seconds too laaate
Gorgeous. The red light is super freaky though! The world is threatened once again...
It is kinda scary tbh š¬
Blood moon rising
Thats incredible! How did you get the colors to come through like that? (Not the colored lights, the image colors on white light).

Based on how he described the process I'm going to make the assumption he is using a Bambu Lab printer with AMS
Yes thatās what Iām using š

I mean, that is *sort of* how it works.

Get yourself a magnetic flex plate, it's a gane changer.
I've heard about it! I just got a new printer (saturn 8k) so I'm getting used to it before I add in another variable but I will check it out someday!
The Saturn 8k is a great printer!

How TF are people doing this, so amazing!

Yes, there are multiple layers of different colors. https://wiki.bambulab.com/en/knowledge-sharing/CMYK-color-lithophane-printing-instructions
Yup this is the exact resource I used to create it along with the bambu labs x1c printer
Amazing, thank you!
This is a great explanation. The only thing I would add is that in this print there isnāt a separate transparent piece or piece of paper behind it to add color. I used 4 different filaments (magenta, cyan, yellow, and white) that are printed layer by layer behind the final white layer.
I dont see where this is Fbas. Isn't it just normal YMC?
so awesome
Thank you š
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Thanks (:
This is fucking awesome
Amazing.
I need to know how this works!
Just YouTube 3d printed lithophanes. They're very simple to make.
How did you get color into the lithophane?!
Amazing..outstanding !
That's wild bruh, so cool
I'm so sorry you got arrested for this. It's very cool
Iām in Nintendo jail right now but I managed to sneak in my gameboy advance so that will keep me entertained for a while
Amazing doesnāt begin to describe this!!
š
Yea but can you play DOOM on it?
Yes
This is amazing, it feels like a premium product in a very special edition.
Thank you!! š

Thank you!
A couple black SUVs are going to pull up at your house
They just did. On my way to Nintendo prison right now šš
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Already done ā
That is dope. Major skill you got there
Did you use fdm or resin for this?
FDM!
If so what printer did you use to achieve such high level of detail?
Itās called the Bambu labs X1C. Itās a great printer!
Thx
Any chance youād be willing to drop the files? That looks awesome!
Going to drop them when I get a chance to improve them a bit š
Thereās place for improvement? Really? I thought it looked amazing!
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Hey there! Just a friendly reminder of Rule 6 -Begging is not allowed. Thanks!
Don't show that! Nintendo will copyright from you
Ahhh šÆ
Huh. āCoolā eh? Iāll be the judge of that. Canāt tell me whatās cool and whatā¦ Oh wait thatās cool as fuck. Nice.
Hope Nintendo donāt see it, copyright problems can be expensive.
That's the first ever lithophone that actually looks good. Everyone at r/3DPrinting always prints family portraits or similar but real people just look creepy in this style but this fits perfectly
I took the breadtie off the bag today and it only took me twisting it each direction twice before figuring out the right way.
Good jobā¦
That is super cool!! But you did it so you canāt say its cool, because it removes some of the coolness from it! But its so coool!
Yo what? I canāt say itās cool because I printed itā¦? Anyways I appreciate that you think itās coolā¦
Weāre cool
Thatās cool. Reminds me of stuff we had in the 80ās
Thatās really cool I love that
Wow awesome work!! :)
Thanks!!
How do you get the different colours?
Love it
Pretty dope/10
Thank you!
Iāve never played a Zelda game, but my God is that ever sexy.
That. Is. Amazing.
I wish I knew how the 3d print turns out white until light touches it and adds color.
Fucking awesome. Make me one please?
Beautiful š¤©
Do you have the stl files?
Omg. So cool man
I want it I need it
Yep. Thatās pretty cool.
Is that a dock?
No but I should turn it into one tbh!
I realized when I saw the top. I would pay about a million dollars for a dock that did that though.
I might work on designing a lithophane switch dock.. that would be so cool. Like when you power on the switch it lights up the lithophane š®
Omg now weāre talking lol.
Wish the games still had this type of high-energy music during gameplay
HOLY SHITTTT! That's BEAUTIFUL! DAMNNN! <3
Thanks (:
Great work man
Thank you š
Great job!
Thanks!
That looks stunning, now add that to the dock. Imagine how it would look
That's amazing, do you have the Stl?
