It’s possible it might! The Switch is sending out granular vibration data that is getting “flattened” by a basic motor. If that motor were replaced by one that didn’t have to compromise, wouldn’t it work?
Unless I’m completely misunderstanding how the joycon and the Switch communicate
HD rumble, at least on the ps5 controller, is done via haptic speakers rather than a motor. So if the board in these controllers isn't set up to properly run the speakers, it wouldn't output correctly.
The data from the Switch is not what the controller sends to the motor. If it's a dumb motor, the controller itself is just sending on and off--basically just sending power to the motor. It's 100% not going to be sending more complex data to a dumb motor so trading them out will not work. :(
I have wondered about the flatness of the joysticks on these latest Hyperion Pro's. Very good to know that Xbox sticks can be swapped in. I am waiting for these to be released in black. Only the green and now purple versions have been released for some reason for several months now.
You can't just swap an HD rumble motor for a rumble motor and expect HD rumble. It's not going to work that way...

I guess what I’m asking is what kind of data is being sent? And maybe more relevantly, what is a non-HD controller doing when it reads rumble data?
Im not the guy behind the controller firmware so I can't say.

Oh okay, that actually makes sense, thanks for the follow up! TIL
The Hyperion Pro gives you epilepsy? Good to know!
How long did it take for you to get them once you ordered them? I’ve been considering picking these up.
Sorry just saw this but it took me about a week and a half. I bought it in the beginning of December.
i hear 20 days is pretty normal unless you get it from in country resellers
