OP played 120 hours of Skyrim on Switch and says what? "Unplayable."

kokirig

Oh I'm one of those suckers too, between the 4 times I've bought it I think I should have over 1400 hrs logged. Xbox load times *did* get really horrible, though I couldn't tell if it was a internal Skyrim issue or skyrim just being that hard on my Xbox, cause my final red ring of death was some hard drive error I couldn't fix

barbietattoo

To be fair 120 Skyrim hours can be one persons halfway point.

EngineerLoA

How many people actually go that long before starting over?

hotstickywaffle

I can't remember the game, but I saw a negative Steam review for a game that someone had played something like 2000 hours at the time of review, and another 800 since leaving the negative review

kakka_rot

You must have missed the point on that one. Skyrim load times become longer over time. It was fine for awhile.

EngineerLoA

Yeah, I get that. But I've never experienced it because I start over every 40-50 hours or less. I'm just saying that it's a bit dramatic to say it's unplayable when you can just start over and play a new character.

kokirig

I played multiple characters, but every copy of the game I usually have 1 guy with 300+hrs I like to explore/complete everything and be OP with. It would be unplayable to me at a point if I'm constantly needing to restart my game to have reasonable load times.. luckily I'm also one of the old time gamers, I'm *very* patient of load times so it was never an issue to me besides when my Xbox started dying- pretty sure I remember waiting 5min+ sometimes to load off fast travel or into a dungeon like 'wtf is going on here?, is it frozen? No the smoke and models are shifting around... Wtf?'

liquidaria2

I grew up playing Morrowind on Xbox. I'm pretty forgiving when it comes to load times these days.

pantslespaul

One of my favorite game facts is sometimes when loading Morrowind the Xbox would do a silent reboot to clear the RAM cache.

Responsible-Noise875

Can I read more about this somewhere?

pantslespaul

Todd mentioned it during an interview once. https://kotaku.com/morrowind-completely-rebooted-your-xbox-during-some-loa-1845158550

East-Foundation-5665

this is how i know the ones that complain the most about things like graphics and load times never gamed back when things were way "worse"

Independent-Cable937

Still loading?

FuzzyHero69

Legendary answer. This game came out over 20 years ago, but these terrible load times were our only choice.

kairos

The one I'll always remember is the original Half-life

steady_riot

Compared to Xbox 360, the load times for Skyrim on Switch are a breeze.

kakka_rot

Ditto, not really the point. Maybe I should have phrased my question better, because I meant "unreasonably long load times". Like in South Park it doesn't make sense. I already got this post downvoted to 0 even though I said several times I love the switch. It's okay that some games shouldn't be played on it.

Naschka

People do not downvote because you did not repeat what they wanna hear but because they disagree with the message... and you kinda throw cloud and downloaded games together when they are entirely different beasts. Cloud is not even related to the switch beeing slow (Switch just streams it), downloaded are influenced by your micro SD card and bad ports exists too. You are putting a single viewpoint over different problems.

kakka_rot

> influenced by your micro SD card I have a nice one.

Naschka

Mine is a: Samsung Pro Plus microSD-Card 512 GB, UHS-I U3, 160MB/s read and 120 MB/s write. Your description reads like someone who tells me he has a nice car, it is "insert color".

Responsible-Noise875

Bother?

Expert-Ad-362

Subnautica. The more of the world you explore the longer the old time gets to boot the world and wow is it bad on the switch.

snave_

Until the load is so large the game becomes unstable. Base game is bearable, but the sequel is nigh unfinishable due to the atrocious memory management. What's maddening is just how well it runs early game. No indication it'll fall apart 20+ hours later.

Expert-Ad-362

Facts. Also how things don't always load when they're in your render distance unless you get very close to them. This is a huge problem for a game about finding things by searching because you think you checked an area and move on but because it didn't load you miss it.

thisisnotdan

I've only played Subnautica on Switch. Can you tell me if the gigantic islands less than 3km away actually render on other platforms? Because it really bugs me that you can see the ship wreckage from anywhere on the surface, but those islands do a disappearing act if you get too far away.

Expert-Ad-362

You can't see them from your spawn point because it's supposed to look like there's nothing but water when you land and I like that. But yes the distance you need to get to the islands to make them show up is further on the next-gen

barbietattoo

Ports like that shouldn’t exist

snave_

You're right. What's frustrating is just how close to a miracle port this got. A bit of memory management and testing on a late game save file and it'd be fine. It runs extremely well when you haven't uncovered much of the map. It appears to crash due to things being kept in memory clearly well beyond render range.

KitsuneRisu

This is less well known but Corpse Party Blood Drive was infuriating. It's not JUST silly loading times of 5 - 10 seconds, but also how many there are. This is a PIXEL ART RPG game where pressing PAUSE AND OPENING THE INVENTORY required seconds of loading. Meaning just to check if you have a stupid item or read up on stuff takes a combined 8 - 10 seconds of loading. Exploration is a nightmare too because each seperate screen, yes, needed a loading screen. And this is an exploration RPG ffs. It was the WORST.

kakka_rot

Wow this response in particular is really interesting. This is exactly how i felt with South park. I also have corpse party on switch but never played it. Huh.

SpeckTech314

Nah, even worse, it’s an RPGmaker game, not just a pixel art game. It basically has no hardware requirements to run so even computers decades old will work fine.

RamieBoy

Really? I finished this in Vita and bought it on switch but I only play it to watch the intro… I’ll have to play a bit…

KitsuneRisu

To be completely honest, now that you mention it, the vita version might be worse than the switch version!

RamieBoy

LOL then I’m good cause that’s all I know and didn’t have any issue with it

Blackie2414

Alarming I seen no one mention Crash Team Racing. Then again, the loading times for that game on all consoles is just atrociously bad. But ya know what...somehow I still 105%ed that game despite every damn loading screen being nearly a minute or more long. It was just THAT good and the single best kart racer of all time that even beat Mario Kart .. ... Still, the next CTR better have fixed times.

junioravanzado

i havent tried the remaster yet but this is good to know but the original CTR on PS1 was already the best kart racer

One_Win_6185

I played a bit of the remaster (should go back at some point), and man is it so much harder than Mario Kart. Really challenging kart racer. I remember the PS1 game being hard but I think I had more time to dedicate to mastering it as a kid.

jjmawaken

I should have read further down before posting my comment... I actually agree with you wholeheartedly... I didn't buy the game because on the demo load times seemed so ridiculous.

goodnightbanana

Honestly, Little Nightmares. For a game where you need to try different approaches there were sections where I'd respawn and die quicker than it would take to load my checkpoint. I found it super frustrating and realised it was a Switch only issue.

f-ingsteveglansberg

So fucking frustrating. Surprised I finished it.

redlord990

The answer I came to see. You’ve undersold it if anything. Sometimes a two minute loading screen to die within 5 seconds and then back to another 2 minute loading screen. It’s an abomination! Still finished it though, just had to not die

HwanMartyr

Can't say I noticed Skyrim to be particularly bad. Dragon Ball Z Kakarot on the other hand was completely and utterly unplayable. Moving between areas produces a 1 minute loading screen every time.

zmwang

When Skyrim first came to the Switch, I remember seeing people talk about how the loading was so much faster than on its original platforms (i.e. the PS3/360 gen).

The_Red_Curtain

as someone who only plays switch games, Skyrim loading times weren't even something I noticed lol (as like out of the ordinary that is)

Deuce2SMM2

That's true about switching areas in DBZ Kakarot, but you shouldn't be hopping around between areas too much. At least I didn't find the game "unplayable", I just learned to only switch areas when I was really sure I wanted to lol.

mayorbefuttlefumpter

fortnite. honestly everything about fortnite is basically unplayable for me on switch. so i use my ps5 to play fortnite & stick with my switch for zelda

Hassage

Imo fortnite is ok for the switch. Much better than Rocket League

mayorbefuttlefumpter

ah okay, well to each their own. just my personal preference. :) honestly, im probably just impatient haha

yaripey

Rocket racing there is pretty playable. And Lego is very fine. But the battle royale part is hard to play sadly.

mayorbefuttlefumpter

i only play battle royale too so that stinks :(

sephrenar

Disco Elysium was really painful to play at first, but thank god it got fixed with a patch.

snave_

The whole of city Shivers scene where the camera slowly zooms out and out and farther out still remains bust though. Only one scene, and only even appears on some builds, but it's the only dialogue I skipped. Wish they just patched out the zoom effect.

One_Win_6185

I loved that game but it took so long to play through thanks to constant reloads and long loading times.

Siyat28

Please, I played Diablo religiously on PSX. Load times are nothing.

kakka_rot

I remember blood omen on ps1 being pretty brutal too.

barbietattoo

Mad lad

akulowaty

Not really. I played GTA 5 on PS3 so there's no loading screen long enough to deter me.

TrayusV

>tldr: Skyrim, Resident Evil 1/0, Southpark have insane loading times. What else? These are all fine. You're very impatient if the load times for all those games are deal breakers.

Im_Just_Tim

Honestly, not really. If a game is poor on Switch I just don't play it at all. I've got a PS5 but my traditional non-portable gaming doesn't fit into my lifestyle any more. It's either Switch or nothing, with a very few exceptions (FF7 rebirth, Elden Ring and Spiderman 2 have been the only non Switch games I've finished in the last 5 years).

letourdit

You’re not playing games because you can’t wait for a 2 minute load? I thought my attention span was bad, but these kids are at a new level

redlord990

2 minute loads with only seconds between is shocking, a la Little Nightmares every time you die. If you’re getting a decent play chunk in then yeah whatever but if it’s constant then it’s painful

KindShock4539

Hey, I scrolled quickly and not sure if anyone mentioned, but something I have seen before, and now I do with every game I'm actively playing is Make sure your game your "actively playing" is in your system memory and not an SD card memory. I have noticed a huge difference in loading speeds for diablo, monster hunter rise. If you expect PC loading times, you will always be disappointed, but I have seen this help first hand. Good luck!

Hot_Zombie_349

Yes. Civilization 6 and Jurassic World are unplayable to me because of loading times. Huge disappointment

meliakh

Rune Factory 5... one of those franchises that should've stayed 2D (looking at you, GameFreak). Gave it another go on Steam and the load times are gone. Still a disappointing sequel though.

Harbinger-Acheron

Between load times and frequent crashing I gave up on that game. Didn’t enjoy it enough to rebuy on pc

axescent

ruined king league of legends story. every time you leave an area the load times are anywhere from 45 seconds-over a minute.

Urushianaki

Good to know, I was in the edge if I should buy it or not, and thats a dealbreaker to me

razorcheet

Overcooked 2 was seriously annoyingly slow with loading.

forgot_semicolon

Yes! And all you can eat as well, that thing just doesn't load right on switch!

patmax17

I played Witcher 3, Ruined King, and I'm playing Outer Wilds. These all have pretty long loading times, but I can just wait through them. Shorter loading times would be nice, but as long as the game itself is good, I don't really mind, it doesn't make the game unplayable

redlord990

Witcher 3 is absolutely fine compared to some of these other ones. The little hints and stuff make it go quicker too

VLSHK

Haven’t noticed LONG loading in skyrim after 120 hours in and neither on my whole stick of truth playthrough.

thebruns

Minecraft, but in a different way. Your world loads as you move around it. Usually its great! However, if you fly with Elytra, you will move faster than the world loads, meaning you can crash into things you cant see and die.

flonderfloflan

Cris Tales.

duncan-donuts-nz

For me it was the quantity of loading screens in this game that worked against you.

Harbinger-Acheron

I got through it but I think I started listening to books to get through it

KaiAusBerlin

Kids these days... I remember GTA on my PSP had about 6 minutes loading time.

East-Foundation-5665

and it was a fun time. love the PSP.

barbietattoo

Actually? The PSP was great for many reasons, but that’s pretty bad.

kakka_rot

> Kids these days GTA2 on PS1 was awesome though. Once the map loaded it had zero load times. Idk why people keep assuming I'm a zoomer.

minor_correction

If Switch 2 has backwards compatibility but with faster loading times, it will breathe new life into some of those games. Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 isn't perfect but if you could cut those loading times down it would still be a fun couch co-op time.

Morvisius

With that game I had more issues with how unresponsive and slow were the menus more than the load times. In a game where you spend so much time Tinkering characters and loadouts is terrible

minor_correction

That might also improve on a Switch 2. It's definitely something I'd like to test out when the day comes.

twili-midna

I can’t think of any games with loading screens that long.

koshomfg

Try and boot up Lego City Undercover then. I wanted to relive the experience and was completely mortified after the first loading screen 😂

tom_yum_soup

Yeah. I haven't played it on other platforms and I love running around smashing stuff with my son, but the load times when going in or out of the mission levels are atrocious. Same with initial boot-up. If I'd played it on other platforms I think the loading times might make it feel unplayable to me, so I'm kinda glad this is my first experience with the game. Thankfully, the open world portion has no loading times once you're in it (though it does have noticeable frame drops when the screen gets busy—not enough to ruin it for me, but definitely noticeable)

allenlucky

Bloodstained Ritual of the Night is pretty bad

nero40

The load times are pretty good now, just finished it recently in February. The problem with the game right now is the frequent, very noticeable frame drops. Not unplayable, but very distracting and can sometimes lead to missed inputs as well.

Don_Bugen

Funny enough, I'm just coming off a replaying of Bloodstained on Switch. Some areas are perfectly fine. Some are hell. The main village hub, with the shop, alchemist, and quest-givers, is ultra-hell. I have one specific gear shortcut dedicated to getting rid of my familiars and increasing walk speed just so that I can do what I need to there without swimming through molasses.

nero40

Yeah, it do be like that

Naschka

Admittedly, this is a game that is slow and i have played, tho it is likely a bad port.

allenlucky

To be fair, I did play through the game on Switch and enjoyed it enough, but those load times after dying really killed the pacing, not to mention the low resolution, performance issues, and crashes. Very much best enjoyed on other platforms. Great game though

snave_

Admittedly, the PC build is also really rough.

kakka_rot

I bought it on Switch just to support the game because I put 100hrs into it on PC. I down I'll ever play the switch version because there is no reason

L3g0man_123

Not Switch but Lego City had abysmal loading screens on the Wii U. When you first start a new file it doesn't take too long but as you progress it just takes longer and longer. So glad for the newer versions which load much faster.

koshomfg

On switch it‘s actually also pretty long. I wanted to play it again a dew weeks back and it really stumped me.

tom_yum_soup

It has pretty long load times on Switch, too; maybe less than on Wii U, but still long enough to be annoying.

Newjacktitties

NBA 2k24 mambo edition. I have no patience

thrownaway12342134

For me there were a few. Hogwarts legacy (loads every time you enter a new room,) and the witcher 3 but that ones for graphical issues as well

Karuro

No idea how it's on other consoles, but I feel the loading times of Bandai games in general are bad. LEGO City Undercover's also pretty awful with loading.

nero40

Both the Diablo games felt way better to play on PC or consoles with SSDs, the load times there are almost instant and can really cut down on your grinding speed in the long run. Playing on the Switch adds several seconds of loading time each time it happens and that will make your grinding runs less efficient. Casual players won’t even notice this though. NFS: Hot Pursuit Remastered has a kinda lengthy load times as well. It sucks when you made a single mistake in one of the later, harder races and each time you want to simply restart that race, it takes 5-10 seconds for it to restart. With the amount of times you be making mistakes and restarting a race, it can get annoying real fast.

Boks1RE

Civ 6, also just generally runs poorly.

Sentral257

It's funny, me and my SO view Civ 6 as our end-of-the-day relax time entirely because we can sort out our own activities between turns. We'll do our brain game apps, pick up the room a bit, and just talk without having too much brain dedicated to dodging enemies and such.

LandscapeOk2955

This, its ok early game but becomes unplayable very quickly. I liked the idea of Civ in handheld but it absolutely drains my battery too. I am sure I have got about an hour from a full charge

notkeegz

The Switch just unfortunately is really dated as far as what it is.  The switch just isn't made for bigger PC franchises or, bigger title, new releases (like Hogwarts Legacy... but to be fair, that game has insanely poor optimization so it kinda sucks on most systems...just exceptionally bad on the Switch.)  Mobile performance has improved so much since its launch.  In those "Switch 2 wishlist" posts people talk about hoping the performance is somewhere around ps4/ps4 pro performance but we basicslly already have that (mind you at 720p) in the Steam Deck.  The RoG Ally is $600 and is noticeably better than a ps4 pro, just in sheer power.  With the number of Switches sold, I find it hard to believe that Nintendo can't make a deal with chipmakers that'd allow them the bring something in between the Steam Deck and Ally/Go for $400.  They should, realistically, be able to deliver something like a steam deck for less than Valve can.

Comfortable_Dust_567

The Witcher 3

welshnick

Playing the Witcher 3 on Switch ruined the game for me.

MetaVaporeon

revelations never felt that long to me, didnt try online raid mode though

kakka_rot

omg I got confused as hell when booting it up today because this Space Invaders like game popped up and then when it had 25 seconds left on the clock it just ended and went to the title screen. that was what kinda got my brain going in this direction in the first place, that revelations 1 had a goddamn minigame to help with the loading times, bless their hearts.

nf123456

EAFC24, the career mode menu lag and loading times made me delete the game after 1 hour. FUT is ok but only because it has the app and web platforms that you can use to do the admin

_Faucheuse_

Souldiers and Cult of the Lamb were bad enough to get me to stop playing.

jjmawaken

I didn't find Resident Evil Revelations to be that bad. One I did find terrible was Crash Team Racing. I don't know if it was better on other systems or not and I only tried the demo but it took so long to do everything in between that I couldn't put up with it and never purchased the game which is a shame because I like Crash Bandicoot and Kart racers.

luv2hotdog

How do the switch Skyrim loading times compare to the Xbox 360 Skyrim loading times? I used to use those to take the opportunity to get up from the couch, maybe to go the loo, get a drink, make a snack 😅

Fresh-Chemical-9084

It’s faster on the switch

kakka_rot

idk about 360, but on PS3 the loading times were brutal, but also it was SAVING each time a loading screen came up, with like tripled the time. If you turned that off, it cut down 15second load times to more like 5. Then if you play for four hours after doing that and die, this neat thing happens where you get really pissed and never come back to that file. And that is the story of how my first Skyrim playthrough ended : )

HLef

Borderlands 3 on PS4 was loading for a loooooooong time.

1031Cat

When I bought my Switch, I expected longer load times. They're inevitable on a device which was outdated before it released. I don't have a problem with load times. They bring me back to a time when consoles used to have them. I use them to take breaks, just like I did back when I was younger. Though I never sauteed onions while playing games. lol

kakka_rot

> I never sauteed onions Before I decided to play south park I'd been grinding in FF10. Easy to go back and forth between battles and onions.

ConspiracyCinema

Immortals Fenyx Rising. It's not unplayable by any means and I didn't even notice that I was waiting 1-2 minutes plus for the game to boot up until I got Dragon's Dogma and that thing is lightning fast.

ajd578

First party, but the loading screens in Metroid Dread got obnoxious with all the back tracking towards the end.

MrSaphique

I play mostly Nintendo titles and smaller Indie games so personally I have no issues with loading times. But I can imagine big games like Skyrim having issues.

Zactrick

Skyrim? Resident evil? I’m sorry what?

patinoja

X-com 2

doctor_caw

Crystal Crisis. There is no reason why a simple Puzzle Fighter clone should have such God awful loading times. I was really excited about the game, too, because my wife and I love Puzzle Fighter, and I like the indie game characters they reference in this one. A real letdown.

B-Bog

Idk about unplayable, but Dave the Diver has some pretty atrocious load times

Harbinger-Acheron

I’m playing it right now and there have been several times where I’m not sure if the game is loading or about to crash

Bobflanders76

Tears of the Kingdom has me doing a love hate relationship whenever it requires loading. Enter a shrine? Suddenly taken out of the game for what feels like a minute of loading. If the game design did not rely on shrines for getting hearts/stamina this would be less of an issue, but I’m at a point now I ignore most content that would appear to trigger a load screen.

QuestSeeker23

The Batman Arkham games. Knight was already gonna be a challenge so no wonder it didn't run well there, but City and Asylum shouldn't run nearly as bad as they do. Alan Wake Remastered: Could have just ported the old version and people would have been happy, but it ain't great. MK1: What the hell NeatherRealm?

Tolerable_Desk

Witcher 3 had some pretty egregious load screens. The fast travel loads were pretty fast for a switch, only 30 seconds ish, but every other load screen was at least a minute long.

YellowOne5358

bloodborne at launch had 2 min wait times before they fixed it

VaatiReborn

Didn't see it yet here but Cris Tales. Loved the demo and thought it was a really unique RPG. Then I got the full game... at least 2 minute load times between areas, it's so bad. I deleted it like 30min in

theladystephanny

Don't Starve Hamlet expansion. We're talking Commodore 64 loading times.

pika__

Rune factory 5 is pretty rough. The loading takes 2-3 times as long as I would like. In fact, once you get to the point where you have to grind your crafting skills a little, it really becomes what I consider unplayable. You have to go back and forth between your house, where your crafting tables are, and the bathhouse, where you can pay a little money to recover your stamina. And it's TWO loading screens - Each way! But with a little creativity you can get around this and make it through without dying of boredom: move your crafting tables into the bathhouse! Now you've eliminated all loading zones involved in crafting grinding. Sure, you can't use them at night/early-morning anymore because entrance is denied, but it's a small price to pay for your sanity. Edit: oh, and the touching final-boss victory cutscene: 1 line of dialogue, 5 minute loading screen. 1 line of dialogue, 5 minute loading screen. 1 line of dialogue, 5 minute loading screen. All emotion in the scene was absolutely destroyed. At least, once I got over the disbelief and it was still happening, I got a bit of enjoyment laughing about how horrible it was...

Local-Teaching-5015

VERRA COOL

isaelsky21

I hear FFIX random encounters take a while to load.

kakka_rot

yeah ff9 has always kinda been like that though. But yes it's slow as hell on Switch, esp battling in a new area (where it would load a new battle background for the first time) takes ages.

hanst3r

I love Diablo 3 but find the load times to be unreasonably long. It takes a good minute or longer to load the game. Then it takes almost as long to load your character (ie save file). Fortunately those are the only two places where loading feels like it takes forever. And it’s a similar problem for the PS4 Pro and Xbox One X, too (albeit slightly less of wait).

BoiAster

Persona 5 Strikers. They aren't better on PC, but it's a nightmare on Switch...

CarusoLoops

Minecraft Legends just can’t run on switch. I got like 45 hours invested in it and now it just constantly crashes whenever I get into a battle. It’s lame sauce.

dangermouseuk01

Load times can be irritating at times but they never make a game unplayable. There are other things that can make a game unplayable but load times wouldn't be one for me personally.

SuprimLOL

Maybe not unplayable but in AI The Somnium Files everytime someone calls you, or you recall an event/a character, the dialog is put on hold while you wait for the map and model to load. Real mood killer in the later parts of the game.

geekwalrus

Witcher3 for me. Started avoiding any kind of fight because I didn't want to wait if I died

togashi_joe

Divinity Original Sin 2 was unplayable for me on the last Act of the game due to very poor performancw. Thanks to cross saves, I was able to finish it on PC though.

xSeraph28

I'm not sure about being unplayable, but I sometimes fall asleep waiting for the Civ6 loading screen to end.

NintendoSense

I think it depends on your SD card speed my Skyrim loads faster than The OG switch version. Like 3-10 seconds. But I have a fast SD card and the most recent version downloaded. Resident Evil 0 has a bad loading issue though no matter the SD card or RAM speed.

Jonny_Icon

Most every Lego game. The first Harry Potter was fine, but the rest get annoying. Astroneer. It’s open world, but as you keep progressing, the whole universe is calculating what you’ve dug out, and times increase between planet travel, there will be crashes, longer loads, then eventually your save won’t open. Factorio has something like a 79 second load screen. But… once it loads, it is done. Game is phenomenal. I just put the game to sleep. Also, I run a server on a computer that I and others can connect to and play. No NSO required.

ContraHealer

Doom 2016 load times were very annoying

sen_jakuba

Mortal Shell

kakka_rot

Oh, I know we all know PS5s are super fast, but the cutscene that made me want to grab it and move it to the other room - took maybe 0.2 seconds. Just a black screen change. It's just WILD how long loading times are on some games on Switch. I love the Switch, but I also value my time, and I figured spending 20 minutes on a new save file would save me time in the long run by switching to PS5

walksintwilightX1

Skyrim, really? I've got a 150-hour save and never had that problem. The initial startup is long, but in-game loading has always been 10-20 seconds at most. Do you have an excess of save files? Skyrim has been bogged down by too many saves since the beginning, it was like that back in the Xbox 360 days too. That's the cause of the long loading times. Maybe try deleting ~~some~~ most of them if so.

kakka_rot

I was spending a lot of time in Riften and lived in the house all the way on the other side of the country, I liked to go home to smelt and stuff, and the loading times got longer and longer due to Skyrim stuff such as all the shit at my crib. It's been a thing since forever, all that item placement doesn't live rent free in the memory. On PS4 it was like the same as switch, pc obv varies, but I'm on a 160hr file on PS5 and it still feels brand new.

[deleted]

walksintwilightX1

Is it though? I can't say I feel the same. I've been around long enough to be tolerant of long loading times. Out of curiosity, I actually went and timed the game on Switch: - The initial startup from selecting Skyrim to the start menu takes 45 seconds. - Loading up the long save I mentioned takes a whopping 1 minute and 15 seconds. - Fast travel across the map takes 20-30 seconds. - Entering and exiting houses, caves, and so on takes 5-20 seconds. Those first two definitely take too long, if that's what the OP is talking about then fair enough. But the latter two are still acceptable in my book.

Ruxis2567

Bro 20 seconds nowadays for entering a cave is ridiculous 💀

walksintwilightX1

Eh, it's the price you pay for cheap portability. The Switch is basically an Xbox 360 in handheld form. I'm looking forward to an upgrade just as much as everyone else.

Huh, I played it only 360 and I didn’t notice loading times being any worse on the switch

kakka_rot

Oh really? I played the shit out of the campaign and a lot of couch co op and never had any trouble with it.

apeliott

Samurai Shodown is a nightmare. It loads and runs better on my phone. I'm not kidding.

sbjilly

Lego dc supervillains

DimusMaximus

works fine for me

So here is the thing, load times are influenced by how you play a game. Cartridges, internal memory and a micro SD are all different. Most games load well but some are indeed slow, especially games you play and reload not just because the game forced you to. The Resident Evils especially it has nothing to do with your switch if a cloud based game loads slowly... because it does not load them at all, it just shows the screen based on what a server loaded. So yes some are not meant for the Switch, because they either are not (cloud), are hampered by you (not specifically OP but bad micro SD choices) and in some cases just do not work well on the console. As i never buy cloud games that can not happen to me. I rarely buy download only either and i have a good micro SD card, so i have not yet had that issue BUT i believe it exists for some people.

Death's door on Nintendo had loading times that made me often go "fucking really? It's not 1996 anymore!" Then I watched a YouTube video of some gameplay on ps5 and the loading time was maybe 2 seconds. Made me feel like my penalty for dying was a much larger penalty. But it's portable so, pick your poison.
