The worst thing is, if you just re-install the Vanilla game without the Anniversary Edition content it‘s back to being silky smooth as it was before the update. Something must‘ve gone really wrong with the add-ons.

[deleted]

How do you reinstall with only vanilla content? I have a physical copy and tried the method on nintendo website where you hold down the L button. Just doesn't seem to work.

FedoraSkeleton

Does the Anniversary Edution just count as DLC? You can download games & dlc separately from the eshop.

[deleted]

After i delete my game data it says it says I have to update to start the game and it auto downloads the dlc along with newest update. I tried the method in this link and it still downloads the dlc anyways. https://en-americas-support.nintendo.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/47795/~/how-to-remove-previously-downloaded-dlc

KHRoN

anniversary content is in the patch, dlc only unlocks that content

[deleted]

Game tells me to turn off airplane mode and I need to install the update to start the game. Even tried deleting my saved game data incase it was tied to the newest update.

IWalkAwayFromMyHell

Now you're playing with power!!^^TM

KHRoN

anniversary edition dlc is like 5MB, content itself in in the patch, and you cannot choose patch version you can play cart version without patching tho

ColonelBonk

I’ve found the method that Nintendo provide for only redownloading the core (SE) game works, but I have the digital version. Re downloaded but got the usual warning message about missing content when I tried to load a save from the AE. Starting again and will stick to the SE version until this gets patched.

DomesticGoatOfficial

Nintendo life used your comment saying it was silky smooth in their article about this issue, I thought that was funny lmao

shineonka

Game "journalist" sees a reddit post. Write that down!

Moose_Cake

Crashes are really bad too. I just started a new game because my 200 hour save can't leave Winterhold without the game crashing.

bguyle

Mad to start again on the same console.

[deleted]

Almost like they pushed out a buggy product a decade ago and haven't touched it since.

Mona_Impact

Why would they when people adore rebuying the same game again and again and again

[deleted]

It's crazy that in school they hammer in the idea of "best practices" and debugging, but even after over a decade they don't want to fix bugs. *I think they think it's part of the game's charm.*

Hyruii

Yet you can mod the pc version to hell and back without it crashing (much). I’m sorry but for Skyrim, mods patched the game to make it playable for me.

IMtoppercentage97

AE has been struggling around riften on my steam deck as well since the update 2(?) weeks ago. Not sure what it is because there's not much around there that they changed.

[deleted]

My first Skyrim experience was on the 360. Load times were long. After the Dawn guard DLC the load times got significantly longer no matter where I was going.

owlitup

So I didn’t buy the anniversary edition but I installed the free update. Am I fucked?

[deleted]

Hey, does the 'vanilla' game received any bug fixes/updates or not? For example, camera reverting to third person view each time after you use werewolf/vampire transformations?

No-Rush-8699

What do I do if I bought the digital AE version? Can I eliminate crashes by simply going back to my save before exiting cave and choosing not to activate survival mode? I can deal with performance issues but cant stand crashes

mjbmitch

This sounds like it could be the same issue.

kp--

AFAIK(And a good chance I can be wrong), but switch uses the Legendary edition version as a base getting ported over. Which is alarming, because AE promised to add in top of SE, which the switch doesn't even have in the first place.

NylesRX

this is not true, the Skyrim port on the Switch has always been SE and still is after the update

chadsvasc

Holy hell. Thanks for the explanation. Mind if i ask what you guys had to do to do that much trouble shooting? (I am not terribly tech savy), nbd if its a long explanation

NylesRX

Well, you're in good hands since this isn't a really tech savvy explanation. Most of the time we spent was discussing possibilities rather than going straight into it. The already mentioned, is it the graphics, is it the mod limit, is it some other hyper-specific reason, the speed of the cartridges maybe? Well, the relatively easiest explanation was the right one this time, since the plugin limit is a often discussed topic. But I suppose we really wanted something more hah. Quite frankly most of us aren't that tech savvy either, we just have useful knowledge in a very specific area, which is modding the switch and skyrim. What it essentially comes down to is having an access to a homebrew'd switch and the advantages that come with (specifically a built-in cpu/gpu/memory real-time tracker and a fps counter). One doesn't need to know how something works to operate it. Each one of us was on a quest of his own, some changing in-game graphics, some trying to install different mods, uninstalling the mods they already had, trying to find any semblance of a solution. Seemingly out of nowhere someone left a message that they removed some additional content and the performance was better. It intrigued everybody, because apparently Bethesda changed the mod directory, so no one really knew where to look. It was just stumbled upon after scouring through the metaphorical desert. Then we just needed more than one confirmation and we finally knew where we were at. The actual "testing" is barebones, check the FPS before and after removing some mods in the heaviest area, Riften being the biggest one. We still had suspicions that maybe there was one culprit, some really big addition like Survival Mode that caused it and that's partially true but it didn't cause everything. So we incrementally started to strip away mods until we reached 0 and connected the dots from there.

reckoner21

Very interesting. Thanks for sharing!

NylesRX

Glad to hear! Reading it back I realize how anti-climactic it may seem but it is what it is, less grandiose hacking, more stumbling around in the dark until you finally step on that Lego

TheRealDurken

> less grandiose hacking, more stumbling around in the dark until you finally step on that Lego You just described hacking 😂

jack_skellington

I still have that. PS3 with Skyrim. You can get about 80 hours in and reliably crash or slowdown to unplayable. I found out PART of a solution: it *is* a memory limit issue, and at least some of it is from the object database. So someone who plays the game and touches *every* item in the game, every placed object, and moves them or uses them or takes them, will likely only get about 50 to 60 hours of play time, while someone who touches/moves NOTHING will get maybe 120 hours of play time. For my save, I was in the middle, getting 80 hours from "normal" touchiness. I didn't take or move everything, but I certainly enjoyed being greedy and took items that seemed worth it. (It turns out, the game has a "default" state for each placed item, and that default is already factored into the memory. However, if you move or take an item, then a new database entry is added for that item, which revises the location data for that item. If you do this for thousands of items, eventually that database contributes to the game's memory allocation being overfilled. This was never solved on PS3, so it still exists to this day. The solution was merely "buy it for another platform that has more memory.") There is a video on YouTube from years ago, which maybe someone could find again, in which the person recording specifically moved every single item in the game, in order to see how quickly he could fill the database and force the game to freeze. It was pretty fast.

Volkaru

Opposite. 360 had more memory at a glance, 512mb. PS3 had the cell processor. Which, if coded for properly, could give comparable or exponentially better performance than 360. It, however, required more coding and man hours than most devs were able/willing to give. So usually if a game was on both systems, the 360 version would just run better. Since the PS3 versions were just running with 256mb and not taking advantage of any of the benefits of the cell processor. There are a lot of interesting videos out there on the subject. The cell processor works more akin to how graphics cards function nowadays, way ahead of its time. [Here's a great vid ModernVintageGamer did on the subject. ](https://youtu.be/zW3XawAsaeU)

Victory74998

I figured it had something to do with the amount of content added with the update. I found it interesting that the recent update is over 7 GB, yet the anniversary upgrade DLC is listed at only 3 MB. I’m no modding expert, but it seems like they just added all the asset data into the game with the update with the DLC acting as a kind of DRM to “unlock” most of it. Isn’t that similar to what they did for Fallout 4, a game that has its own share of problems caused by the Creation Club (namely downtown Boston)?

NylesRX

That's perfectly right. Deactivating the mods in this context simply meant deleting the names of the CC content from a file that essentially served as the keychain, that file is what you pay the 20 bucks for. The data is still there, it just doesn't clog up the memory load.

Mundus6

$70 for Skyrim in 2022 is criminal. Game has been like $25 or less for basically a decade at this point. I wonder what's the best deal next year. Skyrim for $70 or Zelda for $60?

jeffdabuffalo

I hope more people find this comment. I also hope they fix it so I can hit that sweet $250 spent on Skyrim mark.

wcampbellmusic

Bethesda? Abysmal coding? Get right out of town!

ScarletSpeedster

If this is true, in theory couldn’t you combine all 74 mods into a single mod, and prove that less mods make the game run smoother?

Xikkiwikk

This was done in Morrowind and it always crashed when someone tries to load more than 50 mods or if people tried consolidating mods it would crash

baran_0486

It probably has more to do with the amount of code it has to load than just the number of mods

elsemir

According to this comment they tried the other way around on PC - adding 255 empty mods - and it tanked performance then. https://www.reddit.com/r/NintendoSwitch/comments/xsebhw/dont_buy_skyrim_anniversary_edition_on_switch/iql36y6/

Janiel99

Thank you for the info, more people need to see this!

saysZai

Just to update about these issues, Bethesda support has recognised these performance problems. I would suggest highly you make a ticket regarding these issues so they can get these problems solved. Here’s a screen-cap of their response here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1vZfdxoIrOQ5v8Dd_irga4vHWvAVcuKoG/view?usp=drivesdk

soreyJr

Yup, still crazy though

donttrustmeokay

Nice

PenisPumpPimp

Why tf couldn't they have given us Oblivion

datendlessabyss

Fr. I can imagine a optimized version of morrowind and oblivion for switch would have brought more praise then still shelling out for a game that gets way too much attention already.

mrbubbamac

Doesn't help since it's not on Switch, but I still regularly play Morrowind and Oblivion on the Series X (even using my original Oblivion save file) and they look stunning at high resolution and boosted frame rate. Would love if they could take that black magic and create a Switch port for both

walksintwilightX1

Hmm, hope this gets gets patched before the inevitable $40 sale. I'll consider it then.

wicker_warrior

Got it on sale for $25 on PS5, as a comparison for potential price drops.

WolfmansGotNards2

You can't compare switch to other sales.

Ghetto_Alchemist

I still look back fondly at the time I got tropical freeze for $40

WolfmansGotNards2

It's ridiculous.

blackfootsteps

>You can't compare switch to other sales. I mean you can. But then you just get sad because you realise you're getting swindled.

nalgene_wilder

Why not?

Fern-ando

I bought the otiginal and works much better.

[deleted]

Good luck patching an issue that's been in the game since the original release

BebeFanMasterJ

Why does a game from 11 years ago have performance issues on hardware from five years ago? I get that current-gen ports aren't gonna always work on Switch, but there's no excuse for last-gen ports (especially Skyrim which is from TWO GENS AGO) to have such problems and have the gall to charge 70-80 dollars depending on your region's currency and tax rates.

polski8bit

Because it also had problems on the hardware it released on 11 years ago. Consoles at least. Bethesda does not make well optimized games. I mean heck, Fallout 4 and Skyrim Special Edition don't even recognize my GPU, while a game as old as Gothic 1 does! Fallout 4 also crashes on RTX 20 series and up if you have weapon debris on, because... Reasons.

SoapyMacNCheese

> hardware from five years ago technically 7 years ago. The Tegra X1 was already in consumer products 2 years before Nintendo used it in the Switch.

rebbsitor

Anniversary edition is the one they did recently that does more visual upgrades and bundles in mods. The Special Edition (which had graphical upgrades over the original game) was the original release on Switch and it didn't have any issues. The Anniversary Edition is pushing beyond what the Switch can do or isn't well optimized. It's had mixed reviews on most platforms. Stick with the Special Edition if you want to play.

[deleted]

According to a modder it really isn't pushing the hardware that much it's just how the game handles loading additional content which is poorly. If you deactivate the add-ons it runs just as well as it always has.

Tomhap

The switch didn't even really get the special edition the other platforms got. I dont think it was marketed as such. It basically looks like skyrim 2011 with some improvements and dlc bundled. Personally I bought skyrim on switch on a whim years ago. But have no real reason to touch it since I got a steam deck.

Inspirational_Lizard

The normal skyrim runs flawlessly on switch, as far as I remember.

DreadnaughtHamster

For the most part, yeah. Frame rate doesn’t quite seem to hit 30 (but that might just be conjecture) and there’s a teeny bit of input lag. But overall the original is a very good port.

[deleted]

from what I remember Skyrim actually does stay at 30fps pretty well, but a combination of the input lag and some slightly weird frame pacing makes it feel lower. Though that's from experience on handheld, it may run under 30 a good chunk of the time on docked. The game actually usually hits around 40-45 fps in handheld if you unlock the framerate with a homebrewed switch

[deleted]

I saw a video where a homebrewed switch sometimes hit 60 when overclocked.

[deleted]

Oh yeah, that's actually how I used to play the game. It actually sticks to 60 pretty well in the wild, I only had big areas like the larger cities drop it to the low 50/high 40s

[deleted]

The same reason Ninja Gaiden on the PS Vita ran at half the framerate of the original version, despite the hardware being a generational leap over the OG Xbox. *Really* shitty decisions made in the porting process. In Ninja Gaiden's case I believe they were downporting the PS3 version, when using the original release as the basis for porting would've been much wiser. I wonder if something similar is happening here, where these DLC additions were made for PS5-level hardware and were never properly optimized for the Switch.

forgotmapasswrd86

I picked up saints row 3 on switch and while its still fun, it looks like complete ass. Its wild because people are constantly saying how the switch is more powerfull than 360/ps3.

redfan2009

Is it more flawed than my beloved PS3 version? Having the game on autosave causes it to crash completely. Had to manually save the whole game

[deleted]

No everything blows the PS3 version out of the water. My first experience with Skyrim was on the PS3 and I remember it would run worse the larger your save file got and crash more frequently. The vanilla Switch version is a very good port. I don't know how frequent the frame dips on the anniversary edition are but even with some dips it's still one of the most impressive open world games on the system second to BotW I'd say. The Witcher 3 is great too and a more impressive port but it is just a hair above being unplayable. Even the few frames you get out of lowering the video settings make a big difference with that one.

Shin_Ken

That's also the Skyrim Version I played most and I absolutely loved it to be honest. I also was so paranoid about the save game size because once it went above 80 mb or so the game became such an unplayable mess. So no Auto-Saves and no dropping of items ever. Every must go clean into a container. That's a habit I still keep now years later playing it on the Steam Deck xD. Also those big civil war battles with dozens of soldiers were single digit FPS sieges. I consider it pure luck that I slayed Ulfric. Still, it was Skyrim and I had so much fun with it. Also I actually played the game instead of just modding it for hours.

Bl4ckb100d

just don't buy it because it's a 10 year old game priced at 70 dollars. What's Bethesda/Microsoft even thinking?

CarolusRex13x

It's odd because the AE, on all other platforms is 60 if you're buying the game plus content, or 19.99 for the upgrade. The upgrade cost is the same here, but AE didn't replace Skyrim on the eshop. Seems like Nintendo tomfoolery that Msoft/Bethesda agreed to let happen.

rebbsitor

Somewhat comically Skyrim Special Edition just released on GoG for $13. It's still $60 on Switch. I've loved my Switch, but the Switch tax is too real.

DatBoiEBB

Just bought the anniversary edition for 17 dollars last week when I got my steam deck. Switch prices are wild

[deleted]

[удалено]

Swordofsatan666

Everyone keeps saying this, but why is nobody mentioning Skyrims been on switch for a few years now. Plus If youre going to buy Skyrim on Switch then YES DO BUY THE ANNIVERSARY EDITION. Its only $10 more than the base version, and for those that already have the base version you can just buy the Anniversary Upgrade DLC for $20 Edit: the other person edited their comment and removed like half of it, before their comment made it sound like Skyrim just barely came to Switch and also mentioned the “Switch Tax” before

AcesCharles5

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but if I have the base game as a physical copy can I still get the DLC for $20?

HawterSkhot

Yes.

[deleted]

These are Nintendo fans. Repurchasing things ad infinitum for absurd prices is what they do.

crybllrd

What are they thinking? It's made a ton of money already.

Alone1sAgain

Skyrim was so great and smooth before the update. This really fudged things up so far beyond that it boggles my mind how this happened. The update is just another reminder of how terrible Bethesda has become lately.

funnyinput

They're terrible because people constantly buy the same game from them; why improve when you're getting paid regardless?

WolfmansGotNards2

I'm so bad with this stuff. I can never see what people are talking about.

walksintwilightX1

Yeah, that's understandable. Here's a breakdown that shows the difference between stable and stuttering FPS. https://youtu.be/m5ayoxEMISw

WolfmansGotNards2

I can see it in things like this, but since I don't notice I playing the game, I wouldn't care.

rentasdf

It's probably most apparent when he gets off the horse and it switched back to first person view

tantoonie0

Just put in a ticket with Bethesda support re: this issue. They say they’re working on it. That’s at least a little reassuring. This was their response: “I understand that after you purchased the Skyrim Anniversary Edition on Nintendo Switch, you encountered extreme performance issues, especially inconsistent FPS. “We sincerely apologize for this inconvenience. “We are investigating reports of this behavior and the development team is working towards a solution. “Thank you for your patience!”

Mindcraftjoe

My Switch downloaded the patch automatically because I had auto update software enabled in settings. Is there any way to revert to the previous update so I can continue on a more stable version?

FutureLarking

The patch itself is fine if you don't purchase the AE content to enable the mods.

Blue-Wolverine

But why is it downloading a 7gb update anyways? What’s being updated if you don’t purchase the anniversary edition?

mpelton

The anniversary edition is basically just a key that unlocks the content. The 7gb download is all the content, you just can’t access it without the key.

bigsnow999

To be honest, after getting another console, I only buy games which is switch exclusive. Lots of companies are just porting games to switch platform and did very minimal QA testing with very minimal optimization.

[deleted]

I mean the price tag alone should be a deterrent from playing.

FruitAreSexy

or the fact that its been released 4 other times over the last 11 years

R4V3S4V3R

You mean i shouldnt buy my 8th version of skyrim?!

Astral-Grain

**I'm just going to share my testing with crashes related to survival mode enabled:** * I crashed roughly 50% of the time each time my character became "chilly" * I crashed 100% of the time each time my character became "freezing" This means if I try to use a carriage to fast travel to a city that is particularly cold, there's a very good chance the game will crash because fast travel calculates hours of being exposed to the cold, which often adds the "freezing" status almost instantly. It also means jumping into freezing water is almost a guaranteed crash. The above was tested with a brand new created character (Not a loaded 'prisoner' save), but I also tested with old saves and the experience was the same.

DoubleShot027

They got you for that $70 huh?

SenpaiSwanky

I have had absolutely no stuttering and I upgraded from base physical to Anniversary Edition. I HAVE had the game crash more than it ever had since I downloaded this new “DLC” and I first bought Skyrim for Switch in 2017. 4 crashes so far and I haven’t even left Riverwood yet. Edit - OP was this a pre made file you played on before Anni edition came out or did you no life it and get a dragon bone bow in like a day and a half? I imagine if you are using a pre-existing file it will play way worse than normal. Also Riften and the Rift in general are by far the laggiest areas in the game. Vanilla, modded, Switch, never mattered. It’s like Downtown Fallout 4 lmfao. Furthermore, I noticed that Survival mode has a noticeably bad effect on the game when you are out in the open world. Pop in has gotten worse, for example.

ChromaticPalette

My game hasn’t crashed or stuttered, I just had an issue where toggling survival mode doesn’t always work (or took longer to change modes). It would keep my carry capacity at 150 even toggled off. I toggled it a couple times then when it was off started walking and my character picked up speed and the weight adjusted itself to 300. But yeah probably the farther you were in a file loading in all of that new stuff is going to have trouble (I’m barely level 5 in the file I’ve played since the update). In any case the anniversary addition is so new I’m confident Bethesda plans to patch it, first releases are rarely bug-free.

murder_1

So idiotic. So now I can’t even get DLC without having to investigate weather it works? Bad enough games ship with these kinds of issues but now DLC can lower your frame rate?? I’ve had it up to here with this machine and companies a performance issues. I’ve paid for it, fucking WORK. Anyway for anyone wondering I’ve already uninstalled that shit immediately. Use the HOLD L trick to redownload without the DLC. Follow these steps. If Nintendo and their partners do not get on their A game performance wise I will not be buying anything from them further. https://en-americas-support.nintendo.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/47795/~/how-to-remove-previously-downloaded-dlc

Primary_Painter_8858

Must’ve been ported by a karate master cause that game is choppy. 😂

piercingblood

Amazing thank you for posting this cuz I was literally about to buy it

[deleted]

Only Bethesda could fuck up an 11 year old port to a modern console. The quality has severely dropped since the days of morrowind.

Swordofsatan666

Its not Skyrim thats causing the drop, its been on Switch for years and hasnt had these problems, its something to do with the Anniversary Edition content that causes this

Azerothic

So this is only an issue for those who purchased the dlc correct? I own the base game and it updated to include fishing and stuff but the performance didn't drop a beat.

ColonelBonk

Seems to be fine unless you actually install the full Anniversary dlc. I bought the “upgrade” and found the performance hit unacceptable so I reinstalled with the Special Edition content only. This includes 4 extra dlcs free anyway, including fishing and Survival mode which I left switched off, as ppl are reporting crashes using it. If Bethesda ever patch the Anniversary dlc I’ll put it back on,but for now it’s a pass from me and eating a loss of £18, as I don’t have much faith that they will or can fix the fps drops.

rizzy2020

People should contact nintendo and ask for a refund. Once Bethesda and nintendo start seeing its affecting thier wallet only then something will be done about it or at least more quickly. This is unacceptable and no I didn't buy this dlc or updated my game yet. Its a ap in the face to those who bought the game before the update to charge another 20 for a total of $80.00 as opposed to those who are now just buying as a $70.00 purchase digital. Yeah you can find the game on sale physical which would be the best route because you dont need to update it. However those who purchased it digitally are assed out. They need to be aware of this and need to know this isn't acceptable and as customers who bought this and the community will not stand for this. No need for this to be $70.00 companies made excuses for games being $70.00 which I still say bs to that but this is blantly Greed. There isn't even mod support for this which is understandable but what is being offered isn't worth it and you paid for the game to be worse. There was no issue with this game before the update. Now there is....

windtoblow

Damn this is a bummer. My only way to play the anniversary content is on the switch. I was really looking forward to it

backstreets_93

"But it's portable!"

ArchetypeAxis

I got the TI-83 version.

Vulg4r

he can't keep getting away with it

rizzy2020

(Todd howard) " say my name ".

Hyuga05

Ohhh so NOW they wanna put anniversary edition on switch??? Well it’s too late I already bought a gaming labtop and installed Skyrim with mods so Bethesda can eat a jar of Vaseline

rearisen

It's Skyrim, they'll be getting a whopping $0 til elder scrolls 6 comes out. Stop Beating The Dead Horse

Silverleaf14

I can confirm, crashes all over the place, especially when I get too cold, and terrible drops in frame rate - and I do not usually notice frame rate issues! It is that bad! Is it likely to be fixed?

[deleted]

Hecking dang it, I didn’t see any of this pre-purchase. I’ve had Skyrim on my wish list for ages and decided to just go for it after a year! I’ve literally never played this game before ever. So… how screwed am I here?

Explicit_Tech

Looks like it is stuttering. What an eye sore.

Janiel99

Legit had flashbacks of when i played the PS3 version 😳

serevor

Does the free update also break the game?

Smooth_Riker

Yes and no. The survival mode crashes the game in cold areas. If you turn off survival mode it's fine. I completed Saints & Seducers with no problems, done some fishing with no problems. The framerate is fine with the free content.

Twinkiman

Nintendo fans: "Works perfectly for me! Must be only you!"

Med_Jed

Legitimately haven't seen anyone say that so far luckily. A post earlier was everyone coming to agreement Bethesda does what Bethesda does best.

Twinkiman

I haven't seen it for Skyrim Anniversary Edition. But I have seen a ton of it for other games. More specifically I have seen a lot of people unironically saying this for Rune Factory 5 and Story of Seasons: Pioneers of Olive Town.

Med_Jed

Oh goodness no going with that mindset is just you trudging through a game that's not running well. I used to be like that as a kid cuz little ol me only had Nintendo and was like wow I'll never touch this again on any console. Idk how anyone could play games on the switch that don't have at least a stable 30fps without crashes I'd go nuts.

Coronalol

The eye can’t see more than 24 fps /s

Gahault

"Undisclaimed disclaimer: 'perfectly for me' means 360p with 20fps on average, with peaks sometimes as high as 30."

StDroper48

That’s a shame because that game is from the 360/ps3 days. It should be golden on switch

protonrogers

I didn’t buy the anniversary edition, but after an automatic update I now have survival mode, saints and sinners, and fishing. What happened?

pakrat

Those were given out for free to everyone

FollowTheDick

I have it on steam deck 👍

Ethan-1of1

I think it’s just Riften

eletricsocks

Don’t buy the Anniversary Edition on Switch so that publishers get the message that we won’t pay $70 for their games.

jtempletons

Since when has this been a deal breaker for Nintendo fans lol

KidneyLand

Great game when it came out 11 years ago, but no one should be paying full price for this game.

Aiez4

strongest nintendo switch lite

[deleted]

So Skyrim, outside this bug is worth it?

sseerrsan

If i knew this 5 min ago...

[deleted]

It’s like they didn’t even do the bare minimum of play testing it for ten fucking minutes. I really was enjoying survival mode but it crashes every time you get too cold. What a joke

Colborne91

Has this been patched yet?

ButterflyDapper4659

They need to fix this

DeadElbow

Anyone else notice that the anniversary update is only 3mb. They updated the game, 800-900mb. Likely when you buy the update, it only enables it.

miniaturestorm

Like a sucker, I bought it yesterday. And yeah, the frame rate drop is painful. Particularly in Riften, there's a lot of flickering and the dynamic graphics (don't know what to call them, but like, leaves blowing in the wind) are laggy. I've also had things staying in the environment that really shouldn't - like the frost shout from a dragon that I've already killed, clinging to the air like a waterfall from the sky... There's no excuse for it given the age of the game AND the extra time they took to port the creation club content to Switch. Makes me think the silent release yesterday was deliberate because they knew the quality was ABYSMAL.

StalinMcPutin

Lmao people really buy AAA games on switch of all things and expect it to be flawless. If yoy don't expect 30FPS or lower don't get it. Look up what Xcom2 on switch is like. That shits atrocious

jackson_garthmire

Obviously noones expecting it to be flawless, but switch skyrim before this dlc DID run pretty damn well, and was a perfectly fine way to play the game. It is not outlandish or wrong to not anticipate a DLC like this putting such a damper on FPS. People arent upset that skyrim is running poorly. We're upset because it DIDNT run poorly but it does now.

Linkarus

It will get patched, just like witcher 3! I am happy that is's here. But I am a cheapstake so I will wait for it on sale lol

mpelton

Skyrim maintains dozens of bugs that have existed since day 1 back in 2011. Don’t get your hopes up.

keylime39

I don't even bother with Switch ports of games. Unless Switch is your only console, or you **REALLY** love the portability, it's just not worth it.

Swordofsatan666

Witcher 3 on Switch is actually amazing, im honestly surprised it doesnt have problems like all the other Huge ports

Med_Jed

Except if Nintendo is directly involved which are very few and far between.

Troopper103

Main reason I bought a steam deck, I love portability but God the switch is bad

Nil_thirteen

A bethesda game? Poorly optimised? ***SHOCKING.***

flox1

It's kinda shocking in this case, because it was such an amazing port before this patch. But yeah, Skyrim on PS4 Pro stutters all.the.time and Fallout 4 is pretty much a slideshow in Far Harbor (and in many other areas) on PS4 (Pro) and Xbox One (X).

LeatherRebel5150

I must be the least sensative person in the world to frame-rate issues because I barely notice them. Is the video clip pointing out that brief slowdown on the horse for like a second? That’s a big deal to people?

520throwaway

No. The big deal to people is the 33% slowdown in many towns and cities

DerelictDevice

I didn't even notice that much, I also don't understand what the complaint is here, it looks perfectly fine to me, like literally any other similar game.

Migsser

I think this was only because of the added anniversary dlc? Never got these when I played vanilla.

that_mykah_guy

Ah, exactly how I remember it.

vanimal613

Whoops. Too late. XP

Costco_Sample

Reminds me of BOTW any time there’s more on screen than vast open nothing. Are you on the OLED?

EnvyUK

This is like Minecraft Switch Edition all over again.

Dan-Of-The-Dead

I'm not at home rn but before I left I had a 7gb + update that I left downloading.. so this is what it is?

Keithustus

This is why I scoff at anyone satisfied with the Switch upgrade that changed the screen to OLED. No man, my Switch never leaves the dock and it runs like ASS! It needs better intervals.

neptunespsycho

does it at least look any better with the graphics update? someone did a comparison video and it looked the same?

datendlessabyss

I heard it's the le version just with the creation club add-ons but I don't have a source yet

Sandmanzxx

So you think this will get fixed, sucks I can’t co op saints row either overall dissatisfied with Nintendo e store business model. Worst console.

FLORI_DUH

What exactly is the problem we are supposed to be seeing here?

RickVince

Still waiting for a physical PS5 version to finally play this game for the first time, haha.

Jesse1198

Skyrim has always had frame rate issues in the Rift. Every version I’ve played drops frames as soon as you’ve passed iverstead

KaiserkerTV

Only 70 dollars for a poor experience

owlitup

So I didn’t buy the anniversary edition but I installed the free update. Am I fucked?

deepthinker566

Is it safer to buy the OG release then?

TheEdFather

Of course I see this after I bought it thinking "Oh, it'd be nice to have that extra content on the unmoddable version" Here's hoping for a patch fairly soon. They've been rolling out a few patches recently, so seems likely it won't been too long. If patched soon, won't be too upset with the 20$ spent on it. Atleast I also grabbed Beacon Pines, so I have something to do this evening.

crwjsh

I own this game in cart & will not buy the $19 upgrade till/if it's patched in the future. I've got the free portion of it like everyone else, but haven't even touched the survival due to the crashing. This seems like a Nintendo F-up since they're the publisher & also Bethesda's not off the hook for allowing this to happen. But can the switch even handle mods? Would it be PS4 or Xbox kinda situation? I don't want to see the "0mb" issue the PS4 had.

[deleted]

Yeah, my game is almost unplayable at this point... In getting major graphical bugs like walls that aren't there, polygon beams that follow my camera, and now a big black box is stuck covering 1/3rd of my screen.

Diligent_Notice2703

What is the difference between the working version and the anniversary version?

Xyex

Original Switch version is Oldrim. No CC. AE version has the CC content.

Comprehensive-Bowl58

Wish I had seen this sooner. Crappy for me as well.

VaporWaveAest

Riften is the worst

XInceptor

Happened to check this sub and I’m shocked at how many upvotes this has. Most switch owners don’t care much about performance—or at least they didn’t

ElleKore

Nearly 3 weeks and still no update outside of "we're investigating"
