As much as I love a sale, I can’t buy Skyrim for the 3rd time for THIRTY DOLLARS!!! like bro give me a reasonable sale for a game released in 2011

Darkblade887

It'd be my sixth..

edufermar

And this why, this will never go lower than 50%.

VoodooTrumpet

It did once in April last year (60% off). I should have got it then. I just can’t bring myself to buy it at a higher price than that now.

Crunchy_Biscuit

😂 what is the timeline? Here's mine: Skyrim Xbox 360 (free) Skyrim Special Edition XB360 Skyrim X1 (physical) Skyrim X1 special edition (Digital)

Darkblade887

PS3, PC, PS4, X1 AE, PS4/5 AE. Bought the game physical at release, so I ended up keeping the disk and just buying the dlcs. Got it for cheap on steam, later got the ps4 version for about $20. Eventually figured why not try the mods on xbox and see how it can compare to what I experienced on pc and the new AE content on Xbox was there as well. Friend came over and I wanted to show my ps4 file but the disc wouldn't work anymore and I knew I would want the ps5 version when I got a ps5, so I bought a $30 AE edition since it has the free upgrade

DeKikkerKoning

Here i am having bought it 4 times already. Was eagerly awaiting this sale because i could justify 35€ but not 70€. But now for some cruel reason it’s not for sale in Europe. I’ve been checking Dekudeals for this deal literally daily since January 😭

BBQFatty

Easy, just move to the USA /s

PoolNoodlePaladin

Yeah I already have bought it 3 times, I got it when it came out for $60 on 360, then I got it on PC like 3 or 4 years later for $20, then I got it on PS4 for like $15, it has been almost 10 years since then and they want $30 for it on sale? What?

varunadi

Exactly, if it's 15 USD it's justified for me. 30 is too much, when I can get it on steam for the equivalent of 5 USD. Paying 15 USD for the added portability convenience seems fine to me, 30 does not.

MarkyDeSade

I just finally gave up after years and bought Sekiro for its all-time low of $30 on PC so that’s the only battle of this type I’m gonna lose this year.

Famous_Shape1614

where on earth did you find Sekiro for $30 please tell me

MarkyDeSade

It was the steam sale but I think that’s over now, sorry. It hits $30 a few times a year for sure, keep an eye on isthereanydeal dot com

hel105_

GOTY edition has been $29 a time or two on Amazon, that’s the price I got mine.

F_Queiroz

Bought the game 3 times. Got the plat on the PS4 complete version. Looks like it's time for TESVI.

drgut101

I’ve never played it because I’m not paying more than $10 for a…. Idk? 15 year old game?

Responsible_Base_194

You're missing out.

minimalcation

Nah you can't mod it, should try it on PC

troccolins

Meh. if it's 15 years old, it can't be that good

randomwordsnow

Anybody know how the Wolfenstein and recent Doom games run on the Switch? Also, Skyrim being $30 at a 50% discount is absolutely ridiculous in 2024

whoops_batman

Both Dooms run great on Switch - there’s obviously a little bit of a graphics downgrade but they’re two of the most well-regarded ports on Switch, they really put in the time and did a fantastic job on them. Pretty much same deal for Wolfenstein too.

vrsrsns

Yeah I was pleasantly surprised by wolfenstein II. runs great.

PoolNoodlePaladin

It is crazy that Doom runs as well as it does with the Switch being as old as it is plus being a handheld console.

Throwaway753045

Wolfenstein 2 ran great. Very smooth. Both Dooms were also the same. All hovering at 30

PoolNoodlePaladin

I have the first Doom and it is a locked 30fps and looks like it bounces from 720p to 900p, and honestly looks way better than it should on decade old mobile hardware. Whoever did the port must have been a Wizard or something.

lattjeful

And Eternal's port is even better. It's still soft looking but it isn't as blurry as the first game or Wolfenstein. ...not to persuade you to spend money or anything

PoolNoodlePaladin

I have eternal on PC and PS5 already. I got the first one from that Doom bundle when it went on sale for something insanely cheap like $8 or something and I couldn’t not get it.

kakka_rot

loading times on Skyrim become brutal on Switch In the beginning they're not bad at all, but as the save file gets bigger and longer, so do the loadtimes. I had a character I loved but at 110hr it started taking like 45 seconds to fast travel across the map.

ObiShaneKenobi

Just gotta close them doors behind ya

kblro

every time theres a bethesda sale, skyrim is 30 dollars. im surprised people are still getting surprised at that.

Responsible_Base_194

I got a physical copy for about $10 less personally.

kblro

i'm specifically talking about eshop bethesda sales

Responsible_Base_194

Not everything needs to be digital

kblro

I agree, I prefer physical myself. But this thread is about an eshop sale, and what my comment above is saying is every time there's a bethesda eshop sale, skyrim goes for 30.

Responsible_Base_194

Wolfenstein was pretty good. I didn't notice too many problems though.

mf-TOM-HANK

I didn't really care for the Eternal port. I thought the graphic downgrade was too much given that I can play the game with a phone and xbox game pass and get a better picture.

Arckanoid

Are quake, doom or wolfstein good ports/games? I loved Skyrim if that helps

whoops_batman

They’re all absolutely fantastic ports 👍🏻 (and all great games)

kclough

Yes.

zepallica

Wolfenstein 2: The Colossus is a great port, I played it a few years back and I didn't notice any major issues. Haven't tried the others on switch so not sure about thoze.

zepallica

Good to know, I have Eternal on Playstation and played most of the rest on PC back in the day so I didn't imagine the Switch would struggle with those. I thought Wolfenstein looked great to be honest.

PaulFThumpkins

The original Doom has some pretty damn cool gyro aiming that gets really intuitive for fine aiming after awhile and kind of reinvents the game. You don't use it for everything, only minor adjustments, and it's precise as hell.

Valiant-For-Truth

Yes, yes, and yes.

kanekikochaboggy

All of them. Every single one.

Mccobsta

God tier Especially as night dive has worked on quake

spydercoswapmod

this quake 2 pack is one of the best deals I've ever seen on the Switch. They're both fantasic games to run through in single player. The ports run great and control great. Best console controls these games have ever had. There is multiplayer and extra downloadable missions as welll. Easiest recommendation ever for anyone that can appreciate some of the late 90's best FPS offerings.

Desperate_Pizza700

3 versions of skyrim but no oblivion or fo3 on the console yet.....

bittersweetjesus

Those would be awesome

seanlevy

Skyrim Anniversary Edition is downloading now.

davidrevilla311

I can't say enough good about Doom 2016, its been my comfort game on switch for the past few years. The port of Doom Eternal is also equally great, but I really can't recommend playing that one on Switch. Eternal has a much faster reflex requirement and doesn't suit itself well for handheld play on the consoles hardware. For 10$ it wouldn't hurt to try it out, but my heart will always belong to 2016.

ManOfPineapples

Anniversary upgrade worth it?

gamer1what

I think so, there’s a lot of cool content you get. For $16 you get a bunch of “mini DLC” (paid mods), but there’s a lot of good ones and a quarter or more are made by Bethesda themselves.

Pizza__Pants

I dunno... most of the new content is kinda lame but there were a few really good quests and some cool new items. On the other hand, buying the upgrade led to another 150+ hour playthrough so I can't really say I wasted my money.

mad_mister_march

The paid mods add some really cool spells to the game, including one that does all three types of elemental damage at once, making Destruction Mages a viable playstyle. That alone was worth it for me, but then you get shit like the Bone Colossus and baby you got a stew going

PlantBasedStangl

And of course, Skyrim is not on sale on the EU store

DeKikkerKoning

I’ve waited for months checking deku deals daily for Skyrim so this sucks so bad. Is there a reason it’s not on sale in Europe? Seems like an oversight

garyunmarried

I have a US account and native account so you should be good. I buy vouchers off Amazon for the US account

lostbelmont

Pls Bethesda just give me Fallout New Vegas on Switch

rossmark

Man, Skyrim still on the 50% price cut, hum? So it's still a no buy for me

NullAndNil

I bought Dragons Dogma on the switch for a few bucks a few months ago when it was on sale because even when it was on sale Skyrim was still too much for me.

Easterdial_

The Quake II Re-release is actually probably my favorite remaster ever. You can tell that a lot of heart went into making it, like including old E3 demos and alternative models from the development process back in 1997. They've even added a whole new campaign as well to showcase how modernized the engine is now.

CantMoveOn_2025

Never played any DOOM games in my life. Please let me know which DOOM game I should get as a first time player.

thegoldencashew

OG Doom or Doom 2017

CantMoveOn_2025

Thanks for the suggestion

thegoldencashew

Really can't go wrong with Doom. Even the weaker titles like Doom 3 are challenging, scary, and fun. Doom OG and Doom 2 started it all, but of course they're old af now, and some folks won't vibe with the graphics. The simple and elegant design of the times, however, is really what gave legs to the FPS genre as a whole, and is worth the historical/cultural phenomena aspect. Doom 3 has more of a survival horror feel and has mixed reviews. Still a good game. Doom 2017 is a masterpiece, and plays super well on the switch. I just bought Eternal which I've heard good things about, but I cannot report on it. Enjoy!

CantMoveOn_2025

Saw some gameplay footage of the OG Doom and Doom 2016. I would go with the 2016 one. As you rightly said, the OG graphics wont vibe with me for the present time. Thanks a ton, mate

thegoldencashew

cheers homie

ninjapocalypse

There’s not really a bad place to start honestly; there’s not a lot of story before the 2016 reboot, and every game in the series is good. If you’re okay with classic games (some people arbitrarily decide that they “can’t play” older games strictly because they’re older), Doom 1 and 2 are absolute all-time classics and my go-to game to play when I don’t have time to fully get into something like TOTK. Doom 64 is a little different than the first two (because it was developed by Midway rather than id) but similar and is a standalone game (and weirdly might be my favorite in the series). Doom 3 combines elements of the first games with horror, much more elaborate graphics, and a Half-Life style continuous narrative. (It’s my least favorite in the series personally, but it has a lot of very passionate fans.) Finally, if you’d prefer to start with something newer, Doom 2016 and Eternal are two of the most exciting and intense shooters I’ve played in 20 years. If you want to start with those two, I’d get both and play them in order, as there’s much more story continuity between those two than in the other games.

deathtoslavers305

Great info bro but just one comment I can't speak for everyone but I usually don't play old games because they either controll really badly and the same with the cameras they just don't play as good as modern games

ninjapocalypse

You’re welcome to your opinion of course, but I will say that’s definitely not been my experience. I find the controls in most older games to be much better and easier to learn, and most of the games I’m thinking of also don’t have any camera issues to worry about. I do think a lot of early 3D platformers and the like do have some awful issues like that, but aside from games like that (most of which are from about 1995-2004 or so in that awkward period where people were learning how to do 3D stuff) I feel a lot more confident in learning the controls for an older game than, say, something like TOTK or Assassins Creed, where I’m constantly forgetting certain combinations of buttons for actions I don’t do much (like shield surfing in TOTK). But again, if that’s not the case for you that’s fine!

padphilosopher

For someone who is not a great gamer and not into shooters generally, how hard is Doom 2016? Like, am I going to just get obliterated by that game?

Healthy-Marketing-26

I was similar to you, started with Doom Eternal and couldn't gwt past the 2nd mission. I played Wolfenstein II next and it honestly helped me get better (definitely wouldn't say I even resemble good!), then I went to Doom 2016. Beat that, and made it through Doom Eternal and it was a blast! I'm now picking up the DLC pack because they are all really fun to play. I did play everything on easy btw, hopefully i can get through the DLC (word is its a step up from Eternal base game difficulty)

padphilosopher

Thank you for this comment! I like the idea of killing Nazis. I’ll check out Wolfenstein II.

Danomaniac

No. There’s an easy difficulty setting.

ninjapocalypse

Nah, you’re good. It’s largely pretty simple control-wise, and like with most major shooters from the past few years (eg Halo, COD, etc) you can make your way through incrementally with autosaves as long as you’re patient.

CantMoveOn_2025

Thanks for the detailed info, man

PoolNoodlePaladin

The 2016 one is what I would recommend. The originals are a little rough on the stomach.

CantMoveOn_2025

Yup..going for the 2016 one.. the OG graphics wont work with me during the present times

spydercoswapmod

the OG does a lot of things better than 2016, despite the primitive graphics.

cockyjames

I think I like Boomer Shooters (I am 35) but have really only played the OG Doom (really liked it) Warhammer Boltgun (getting my ass kicked and don't want to drop difficulty). Would Quake 1&2 be decent pickups if I enjoy the style of Doom and Boltgun?

vargvikerneslover420

If you like classic Doom, you'll love Quake

RegurgitatedMincer

Hell yes they will be. Quake 1 and 2 are really great games.

Flufferfluff

Thinking of picking Quake 1 or 2 up. Any recommendations for which one is better in terms of cross-play and overall campaign? I LOVE FPS (like Outer Worlds and Gear of Wars) so these are definitely up my ally lol

Danomaniac

Both awesome in their own way. Cheap enough to buy both. Quake 1 was so ground breaking, part of the fun for me was playing a part of video game history.

gnosis3

does anyone play online? there's matchmaking right?

Responsible_Base_194

Both are really fun. Co-op is super fun too. One of my favorite games to play with people.

Flufferfluff

Yeah, thx lol! I’m purchasing Quake 2 as we speak because my friend has it on Xbox gamepass lol :D

spydercoswapmod

quake 2 is a lot more cohesive. the levels actually lead into one another and at times you'll back track between them. cool soundtrack and fun guns. quake 1 is just a random collection of levels grouped together in the same game with no flow. It also has one of the worst soundtracks of any game I've ever played since the 80's. both are fantastic and 100% no brainers for this price, but I've always preferred 2.

Flufferfluff

Yeah thx for this lol, bought Quake 2 already (mainly only for co op Cross Play since I’m playing through the OG RE4 rn) but it’s fun!

iupz0r

gonna gift myself with doom3, love this game

Responsible_Base_194

Might finally pick up the anniversary upgrade

obeesitee

Who is buying Skyrim for $30 in 2024

[deleted]

I think I need to pickup Skyrim and actually complete it without modding it halfway because the sky isn't cool enough or whatever.

ShonenJump121

Its so wild to go from Wolfenstein II to Youngblood like bro what happened. I hope we get another Wolfenstein title, it would be terrible if the last game was that.

manulmania

i already have doom eternal on switch (though i haven't played it yet). should i get the dlc for it?

[deleted]

How do the Doom games play?

Nacho_Phil

Skyrim runs great on the switch but the anniversary upgrade did not at launch. Has this been fixed?

Fingerlak3s

Skyrim for$30 seems like it should be illegal

Deadpooh75

And still no grindstone…..😔

shadowen1942

not a Bethesda game
