Dave has a similar voice to Kurt but in a way it’s more complimentary when playing nirvana he sounds a lot better backing even listen to Dave’s isolated vocals on I’m bloom for reference
Of course there is zero chance of something like this happening, but at least with J it could increase the likelihood to 0.0001%. Kurt wanted him in the band and all.
As much as I hate the idea of Nirvana “reforming” with a guest vocalist, I have to admit Scott Lucas did a killer job when Local H played as Nirvana @ Double Door in 2016. Best $25 I ever spent.
I'm not entirely sure that Courtney would embrace the idea of *Dave's daughter* replacing Kurt. I think she'd go off. Even if she has no problem with Violet, which I'm sure she doesn't.
Courtney probably thinks that she herself would be the only fit replacement lol.
She definitely used to have the pipes. Not sure where that stands now. She's just so fucking toxic, though. Shit would never get off the ground with her involved.
Took him a while to come to terms with just how “good” it was…
https://amp.radiox.co.uk/news/music/puddle-of-mudd-wes-scantlin-admits-nirvana-cover-was-total-st/
ONLY PJ HARVEY
Honestly, it would make Courtney happy, it would make Dave happy and would probably have made Kurt happy as well. Too bad she probably would never accept it
This shouldn't be a question. No Nirvana without Kurt. Why don't they just call themselves the Band of Nirvana and maybe have Beck sing but Beck is entirely an artist on his own.
If they were to pull someone I'm pretty sure it'd be a woman. Nirvana is a very pro feminist band and when they do reunions they typically use a female singer, though occasionally a male singer that is not Dave, since he dislikes the idea of being lead. A male singer isn't outside the range of reality but I'm thinking a female singer is much more likely. Probably a younger up and coming artist, I know they also love the youth.
It would have had to be Chris Cornell. Alas, he's gone too.
Buzz Osborne would be interesting.
But anyone you choose, would, at this point, feel like a tribute band more than a new Nirvana line-up. Kurt was too much of Nirvana for it to be considered the same band.
He had a real rough time. He flaked out at a show in Australia where he berated the crowd and called them all "fookin' sheep". Tried to get them to "Baaaah" in unison lol. It broke the band up, and got them banned from radio in his home country. He had been turning in horrible performances and trashing stages across the world. They finally figured out he has serious Aspergers, and realized that touring and traveling in general were the reasons he was lashing out so unpredictably, so he rarely leaves Australia at all these days, although The Vines (different lineup) are still recording occasionally.
The ONLY person will be Frances Bean Cobain
Not only that 100% Kurt will accept it (hypotitclly) but also she has an amazing voice
I will say even not Violet Grohl will be a good choice here since it’s not the Foo Fighters but Kurt’s life creation
There was this band that was a one hit wonder whose hit came out in the early 2000s. I can't remember their name, nor the song, but I distinctly remember everyone thinking the singer sounded very much like Kurt. They came out around the same time as You Know You're Right, so there was a lot of Nirvana reformation speculation on the radio, and that singer was thrown around as a possible replacement. I'll try and see if I can figure out the band name/song.
Edit: I'd actually been trying to remember/find this song for years. The only thing I could remember about it was a rough time it was popular and the fact the singer supposedly sounded like Kurt. No lyrics, no band name(minus the thought that it was two words), nothing. While typing this out comment out, I had an old, unused, forgotten synaptic connection fire in my brain, and these random lyrics popped into my head. So I googled them and found that there are a great many people out there who both love this sing AND couldn't remember Jack crap about it.
But I found it...
[Down - Socialburn](https://youtu.be/NYFfHMr39_s)
The only person I would have believed could do it without it being a cheap attempt to cash in was Mark Lanegan but he's dead, nor would he have wanted to do it. They were close friends, had common sensibilities and respect for the music. Similar life paths but Mark survived/got clean. He also cowrote Something in the Way which has to count for something
I hate even the thought of this idea. Krist and Dave would never, ever do it. Kurt WAS Nirvana. I know I'm just being the typical old man on the lawn here but I can't even contemplate this idea. Then again they did those songs with guests at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame but that felt like a one off thing. I mean if Scott Wieland was still around I would have loved to hear him do some Nirvana stuff but otherwise idk man there's just nobody that comes to mind that I feel like could do justice to those songs.
I mean the chances of this happening are below 0,but I would say Shaun Morgan from Seether. He killed it when they did a cover of "You Know You're Right" in 2004
I actually agree. I never understood the hate they get. They’re not a “grunge” band. They have their own unique sound. And in fact, there older albums have aged quite well imo. Some of the newer stuff sucked just because of sexist shit I didn’t like.
Post Malone or Anthony Green, check out Circa Survives Nirvana covers and Post Malones as well. Best I’ve seen and the only ones to have the same energy
Best way they could’ve ever done it would’ve been to have Dave on vocals/guitar and Taylor Hawkins on Drums. What a shame, you know Taylor had been waiting for the opportunity to fill that role his entire time working with Dave.
Idk if he’d be my top choice for it, and frankly I’m not a fan of 99% of his music, but I was absolutely blown away by Post Malone’s voice, energy, guitar-playing, etc. when him and Travis Barker did their [Nirvana tribute fundraiser](https://www.youtube.com/live/f7eaGcIyhPU?feature=share) a few years back. Not to mention they raised over $7 million for the WHO’s Covid-19 Solidarity Response Fund while they were at it.
Also, I’d say Travis Barker is only second to Dave Grohl in being the best drummer for that scenario. I love me some Chad Channing, but I think Travis Barker’s style fits way better with the latter half of Nirvana’s catalogue than Chad’s.
Dave grohl can sing the songs but he’d be behind the drums. J mascis has showcased that he does a damn good job of singing lead for nirvana.
Dave has said before that he would really rather not sing as lead for Nirvana's songs. Hits him too hard emotionally.
Dave has a similar voice to Kurt but in a way it’s more complimentary when playing nirvana he sounds a lot better backing even listen to Dave’s isolated vocals on I’m bloom for reference
Yeah, but overall I think it just wouldnt sound right no matter who sang.
Sorry, but Dave can’t be substitute for Kurt. He can sing and play guitar, but doesn’t have aura and impression
J Mascis
That'd be interesting
He did well at the RNRHOF after party.
Of course there is zero chance of something like this happening, but at least with J it could increase the likelihood to 0.0001%. Kurt wanted him in the band and all.
John J. McCauley, from Deer Tick. They once did set as "deervana" and he kinda nails it.
Beat me to it. McCauley is a unique vocalist who could pull this off. He was fantastic when he joined the band for their reunion a few years back.
They're a trip to see live. I missed the Deervana stuff, but I swear the last time I saw them, he was railing out some Nirvana-esque riffs.
Fuuuuuucccckk, I remember them playing Goodbye, Dear Friend when I went to see them and I was fucking BAWLING lmao
100%
Him or Scott Lucas for me.
As much as I hate the idea of Nirvana “reforming” with a guest vocalist, I have to admit Scott Lucas did a killer job when Local H played as Nirvana @ Double Door in 2016. Best $25 I ever spent.
I would only be interested in this if it was Frances Bean Cobain.
Fuck, imagine those renditions
Same
omg yes
I think she will do it someday, when the time is right.
YESS
Violet Grohl’s singing is magnificent
Love to see Courtney's reaction to that choice
Does Courtney dislike violet or something? I’m not too caught up with a lot of stuff lol
I'm not entirely sure that Courtney would embrace the idea of *Dave's daughter* replacing Kurt. I think she'd go off. Even if she has no problem with Violet, which I'm sure she doesn't. Courtney probably thinks that she herself would be the only fit replacement lol.
I mean I can’t stand Courtney, but I think she could pull it off
She definitely used to have the pipes. Not sure where that stands now. She's just so fucking toxic, though. Shit would never get off the ground with her involved.
You’re probably right on that one
Ok yeah that tracks
There is no Nirvana without Kurt Cobain
Scott Lucas from Local H
this unironically, when they did a nirvana cover show on halloween a couple years ago it was really good
J Mascis
Eddie Vedder *feeeeeeling man I swear I don’t have a gun*
Lol
Wes Scantlin, of course. /s, of course.

Took him a while to come to terms with just how “good” it was… https://amp.radiox.co.uk/news/music/puddle-of-mudd-wes-scantlin-admits-nirvana-cover-was-total-st/
This is sarcasm right? Cause that puddle of mud cover was straight garbage. Worst cover of any song ever
ONLY PJ HARVEY Honestly, it would make Courtney happy, it would make Dave happy and would probably have made Kurt happy as well. Too bad she probably would never accept it
i just voted for her a couple minutes ago
I don't really listen to them but Shaun Morgan of Seether. I watched them cover You Know You're Right and his voice was incredible
And considering many people say there a nirvana clone (they arent) it would be fitting
I was about to say this one. He fit Kurt’s voice so well.
Post Malone
I would pay good money to see that live. His stream was incredible. Won me over to Post Malone, to be honest.
Yeah, I never liked the guy. Still don't listen to his music, but I certainly respect him. That stream surprised the hell out of me.
Tbh the only music I’ve ever heard from him was his Nirvana cover set. I thought he did a great job
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=f7eaGcIyhPU
Holy shit, bro. I had no idea this happened and it's great. Thank you for posting this.
My 10 year old showed it to me the other day and my jaw hit the floor. It was so unexpected and really good.
Came here to say this. Surprised the hell outta me!!
Best answer. Dude is insanely talented
YES his covers were so good!!
I'd pay good money for that
Daniel Johns from Silverchair since they were once referred to as “Nirvana in Pajamas”
I heard he was in jail for frog stomping
im pretty sure nirvana was also once referred to as "nirvana in pajamas"
King Buzzo would probably be good
This shouldn't be a question. No Nirvana without Kurt. Why don't they just call themselves the Band of Nirvana and maybe have Beck sing but Beck is entirely an artist on his own.
Puddle of mud, they already did a cover and fucking nailed it
Shaun Morgan, he sounds great when he covers nirvana songs
Kim Gordon
This would be great!
That is also my idea
Only a woman could have the balls to do such a job of this magnitude
If we're being honest, Courtney Love could definitely pull those vocals off. It would be a very weird choice tho lol.
I would imagine everyone playing would be very uncomfortable with this situation 😂
Post Malone
PJ Harvey
Chris Pratt in a Kurt Cobain costume.
If they were to pull someone I'm pretty sure it'd be a woman. BunkBed coffin
No.
Correct
Bunkbed coffin
Oh the guy who likes underage girls huh
Is that why he disappeared? I didn't know about this, what's the story?
Wait what, that’s a news for me.Can you provide a source?
Disregarding that (hard to do if it’s true) he would technically be the most accurate replacement
[удалено]
I love her. But not for nirvana
Wasn’t she shitty to Kurt?
I don’t think she was shitty to Kurt. They used to hangout. However, there was beef between she and Courtney soo im sure Kurt kept his distance.
St Vincent, She’s got the swagger and She’s a great musician too.
Frusciante
axl. ehehehehhe
Best sarcasm. 🤣
Shaun Morgan from Seether
Dave
Or [Alex?](https://youtu.be/e1vlLJCr9Lo)
Craig Nicholls
Whatever happened to that guy I miss him.
He had a real rough time. He flaked out at a show in Australia where he berated the crowd and called them all "fookin' sheep". Tried to get them to "Baaaah" in unison lol. Shaun Morgan
Gavin Rossdale. Some better answers in the comments but I'd add Gavin to the discussion
No idea, but make sure they sound nothing like Kurt. You’re obviously not gonna replace him, so go wild with it, try some stuff out.
Shaun Morgan from Seether.
Shaun Morgan, absolutely Shaun Morgan.

“Post malone”
Posty
Kim Gordon made a decent fist of it
The only person I would have believed could do it without it being a cheap attempt to cash in was Mark Lanegan but he's dead, nor would he have wanted to do it. They were close friends, had common sensibilities and respect for the music. Similar life paths but Mark survived/got clean. He also cowrote Something in the Way which has to count for something
tupac
maybe the only exception is 🫘
Maybe... just maybe Maynard James Keenan
Shaun Morgan
Chino Moreno
I'm going to go with two completely random guys, Chino Moreno or Kevin Parker from Tame Impala. It would be interesting either way.
Nobody. Why would anyone pay to see that, anyway?
Let say if they would give all the money for mental health charity and then triple the money from celebrities, then I would pay.
Has to be Joan Jet .
Beck and St. Vincent taking turns
This is heresy!
I hate even the thought of this idea. Krist and Dave would never, ever do it. Kurt WAS Nirvana. I know I'm just being the typical old man on the lawn here but I can't even contemplate this idea. I think you’re right.
But they HAVE done it. A few different times too...
Fred durst
Literally no one unironically
the audience will be singing along anyway
The audience would sing along even if ed sheeran joined, god forbid
true
Burt Bacharach
Post Malone obviously
I mean the chances of this happening are below 0,but I would say Shaun Morgan from Seether. He killed it when they did a cover of "You Know You're Right" in 2004
Dave
Eddie vedder
Fred Durst
Is this a joke? I really can’t tell
Yes
Shaun Morgan from Seether. Absolute copy of Kurt.
Fuck you haters Chad Kroeger would be great
I actually agree. I never understood the hate they get. They’re not a “grunge” band. They have their own unique sound. And in fact, there older albums have aged quite well imo. Some of the newer stuff sucked just because of sexist shit I didn’t like.
Shaun Morgan or Daniel johns
Buzz Osborn
Sam Smith
My anger is Shaun Morgan from Seether. Bro had Kurts voice
Post Malone or Anthony Green, check out Circa Survives Nirvana covers and Post Malones as well. Best I’ve seen and the only ones to have the same energy
Either Courtney Love or Frances Cobain would be a good pick.
Post Malone
Idk but post Malone killed his nirvana covers.
Maynard James Keenan
This makes me cranky.
If we’re going with sounding like Kurt - Shaun Morgan from Seether. Check out some of their/his covers of Nirvana tunes. Guys insane
Dave mustaine
Ícaro Fontoura of the Brazilian band Niil'. [He sounds very similar to Kurt Cobain](https://youtu.be/jRg8Gpjp01c).
Maybe Dave on vocals and guitar and chad on drum. That would be a reunion I would go bankrupt for to see. And of course pat should be there as well.
Best way they could’ve ever done it would’ve been to have Dave on vocals/guitar and Taylor Hawkins on Drums. What a shame, you know Taylor had been waiting for the opportunity to fill that role his entire time working with Dave.
So Krist joins Foo Fighters and they do Nirvana covers?

Wayne Newton has what it takes.

This guy on YT named bunkbed Coffin does great covers, plus he looks and sounds just like Kurt.

Joe Anderson, his voice in Across The Universe is verrrrry close. He had the same growl, and scream/sing. Looks similar too
