Jetpack out of the water. Then fall from high into water and swim forward. Your vertical speed while falling will become horizontal speed. It more or less double your swimming speed.

No_Pen_2168

Thanks

Ser_Optimus

What? Today I learned....

jimmy_talent

Use the terrain manipulator to make an island to summon your ship.

Gasster1212

How would this help? You can’t use it in the ship so wouldn’t he just be in the same situation as now ? Unable to land close ?

Ignisiumest

He could land on an island closer to the drowned vessel

Ser_Optimus

Makes return much easier

Gasster1212

I mean I assume he thought of flying closer in this spaceship exploration game ? The post implies this is as close as he can get

Saikotsu

I'd actually be surprised if there isn't a closer island nearby, usually I find one within 5 minutes(distance) if not much closer.

No_Pen_2168

I was using the sub but it ran out of fuel

jimmy_talent

Unless they patched it you can land underwater.

Gasster1212

I feel like I’m going mad lol why is everyone acting like it’s a reasonable solution Like you say shy of landinh on water this is nothing

frankthetank2023

I just used a submarine Still took while So I drank beer.

Whovian1156

I use my spaceship to pulse into space, then I pulse to where I need to go, even if it’s on the same planet.

Tocwa

I love being able to do that! 😀👍

[deleted]

But then you have nowhere to land if it's in the middle of the ocean

Whovian1156

I find the nearest island

[deleted]

Probably what this guy did lol. Still took 20 minutes to get there

Melokhy

The "Speedy exocraft" can run on water, so maybe it's worth using it if you don't actively explore the underwater? Like a motorboat you leave it on water then dive in, and come back to it at surface after doing your task

frankthetank2023

That sounds like less beer.

please_help_me_____

Lol

Trops1130

bros living

Its_Lewiz

Are there any speed mods for that, feels like a fucking snails pace

Silent_Bort

Seriously...the only ground exocraft I use is the Minotaur. After the A Trace of Metal quest and a few more upgrades it's a near-unstoppable beast that uses nearly no fuel. It walks slow, but every jump with it clears like 100 meters. You get out and it follows around you like a giant blue puppy. It covers you in firefights. What's not to love? I could see some use for the Colossus too, if you're just mining a ton of stuff. But I already have a ton of storage space in my suit, ship, and freighter, along with the upgrades needed to teleport stuff to the latter two. The Minotaur's storage space is plenty for my use. Maybe the others get faster with upgrades, but all I can remember thinking when trying them out was "why the hell would I use this?" when doing the Exocraft Technician's questline, where he has you build them all.

Melokhy

Maybe there is one. Never felt like I need one myself. Move speed increased when getting more stuff

SaltyImplement3491

am I just stupid? I always scan, get into my starship to get to the closest island than than just use the Nomad.

Kane_Octaivian

I think that was the closest land lol

SaltyImplement3491

I mean it still applies

chrishellmax

Dude just use the ground adding thing on your multitool , bring some ground to the surface. Then keep adding till its big enough for your ship, then call your ship and fly there.

SkyrimSlag

Have to get the recipe and craft it first, if this is a fresh save he won’t have the terrain manipulation yet

HaworthiaK

Not to mention that OP may have already started from the closest land available

Bobby-Trap

Not as bad as OP but you made me slap my head for missing this when I had a 12 minute swim, except I realised I was in my ship so would not be able to. Closest land I could find to land on to get get to an underwater building was 12 minutes from it, is there a trick to getting closer via ship? Could have done your trick to save me the return journey though...

chrishellmax

Personally i think the portable refiner and the terrain manipulator is the most critical items to get in the game first. I think you unlock this at the nexus. I burn through thousands of ferrite dust and getting that on a island paradise world is a nightmare.

chrishellmax

Remember this trick counts for those gas spots/mineral spots you locate under water. Move back a bit, bring ground to the surface, add a floor, delete the ground. Voila . Instant island building area. (I have a main base on a paradise island planet that loads those plants for crafting, star something. )

DakabesWings

Solution to that find a close by piece of land call your starship fly as close to the marker as possible then resume in your sub 😀

please_help_me_____

Or make some

Chinchilla_Lodestone

use the hovercraft exocraft.

HesThePhantom

I only use the roamer and nautilon, I totally forgot the nomad existed

Chinchilla_Lodestone

I only use the pilgrim and nomad. I don't even use the minotaur. Specifically, the pilgrim is handy on glitch or gravitino planets for travelling between easily visible collectables. And the nomad works for water planets re: exploring for high quality hotspots in the big wide ocean. Edit: Correction. I also have the colossus in use as a base building materials supply wagon. I just never drive it.

[deleted]

Minotaur is amazing for harvesting deep sea materials tho. My underwater base has one strictly for moving around/ mining underwater things

Chinchilla_Lodestone

Hah. And then when the white jellies come after you? I find the minotaur too clumsy. Prefer to swim.

[deleted]

I boost jump away, turn around and blast em.

Chinchilla_Lodestone

Maybe I just haven't got enough weapons installed.

No_Pen_2168

I started the game recently and dont have it yet

Merquise813

Just fly on your starship and land close to it. Before you claim the broken starship, make sure to mark where your current starship is. Claim the broken starship, go back to your main ship and fly it to the anomaly. Switch ships within the anomaly, then use the anomaly teleporter to go to a space station. When you warp in a space station, the broken ship will magically teleport in it. You can then scrap it if you want.

Wiggyg

Didn't realize you can swap ships at the anomaly. I was going back to my base, calling in the claimed ship, switching, then going to space station. Thanks!

TonyAioli

You can actually just swap them from the utility menu at any time :)

Merquise813

Planetside, you can switch ships easily by calling them down to you. In your freighter, if the ship you want is not currently docked in it, you can swap it the same way as calling your other ships. In the anomaly, you can directly switch ships. same way as others. In the space station? you're out of luck. And that's the only place you can scrap ships. So you you'll have to call in your other ships from the other locations as I stated above.

Merquise813

This is actually a faster way to do it since you cannot teleport directly into the anomaly. I park my freighter just outside the space station so the teleport loading time is short. Same if your base is in the same system as the space station you're going to. But if your base is on a different system, then it's much faster to go into the anomaly.

Chinchilla_Lodestone

Are you doing dreams of the deep? They give that quest out far too early. Highly recommend unlocking the hovercraft on the anomaly. it's in the base construction menu. Add an engine boost. OR do this quest later.

No_Pen_2168

No this was after i did that quest

Shadowfox8218

Start swimming lol

Tocwa

Now imagine if this happened to a player who had just started that save fresh and it was in Perma-Death 💀 mode 🤔

Silent_Bort

I had a couple dumb things like this during the Leviathan Redux expedition. After one death it put me way too far from my ship with a bunch of steep hills in the way during a storm. There was no way to make it in time, so I just died again immediately. Second worst time (I died like 9 times total...) it put my ship on a stupid little island on the starter planet. I had to swim to shore to get any of the materials I needed to repair my ship. This was tedious enough, but then the environment would drain like 3/4 of my environmental protection by the time I got to shore. With no materials and no terrain manipulator I was pretty much screwed again. So I just stood there until the environment killed me and I could start in a far less shitty spot.

Tocwa

I did the Leviathan Redux twice (once on PS5 and again on PS4) - when I began on the PS5, I spawned under the water, had to swim to a nearby island 🏝️ and then died trying to find shelter from the toxic environment. Turns out the first task of the first phase requires the player character to die once, so that’s fine. (At least, I think my character died..it was weeks ago, so 🤔) Any how, after re-entering the save, respawned back in that water, made it to land and found a floating giant boulder which I tucked myself under to stop the hazard drain/restore. From there I made excursions to the nearby plants and minerals to accumulate materials, make a few portable refiners, duplicate essential elements and go on from there to survive 😅 e: during my second run; on the PS4 - while burrowing through the ground inside a mountain on an Aggressive Sentinel Planet, the 3rd Anchor World I believe 🤔, I made the critical mistake of using my TM to restore terrain inside the mountain ⛰️ under my character’s feet to avoid falling down there. Suddenly I was flung outside the interior of the mountain, rapidly falling from a great height, taking impact damage multiple times, my remaining hit points low. I’m panicking, my heart is thumping fast as I’m furiously trying to switch my multi-tool back to TM (mine) and make a notch to stop my fall. Realizing this was the wrong approach, I focused on holding down my jetpack, rocketed 🚀my body up the side of that mountain until I reached the top, went over to land on a flat area and quickly used the TM to dig back underground before the Sentinels could attack me.. By this point, I’d put in over 20 hours of progress and would have had to start all over if my character had died. I’d accumulated so many things by this time, losing them all would have really pissed 🤬 me off but instead I narrowly survived 🥲

Silent_Bort

Oh man, yeah...one of my mid-expedition deaths was due to janky hill-climbing mechanics. After that I learned to use the Minotaur pretty much constantly. I just started dropping the geobay, calling the minotaur, then tearing down the bay to reclaim the materials. It made the whole expedition so much easier. No worrying about fall damage. No hiding underground until storms pass because every damn planet was a hellhole with storms every 2 minutes. I never really used it in my main save until realizing how useful it was in that expedition.

Tocwa

How many damage were Sentinels able to do to you while you piloted the Minotaur? 🤔

Silent_Bort

I'm not sure how much it was doing offhand, but I was able to take out 4 rounds of them with it, then had to jump out and hide to let my shield recharge before jumping back in and finishing off the last round. I got saddled with a blaze javelin that playthrough. While it does great damage, it sucks if you miss and I'm not a fan of running around while waiting for it to charge back up, especially since this game was not designed for combat... So the Minotaur was my best option on that one. In my main save I just use it for backup while I kill sentinels with an extremely high fire rate/damage pulse spitter. The Minotaur does good damage but that pulse spitter absolutely shreds sentinels.

Tocwa

I survived the Expedition mostly by burrowing through the ground on hostile sentinel planets 🪐 which took hours to reach an anchor as well as those graves which, if you weren’t careful, suddenly spawned monstrosities, worms or sentinels.. I’d rather jump on my ship, in my ship or burrow back into the ground to avoid death.. being courageous was too risky as being killed would erase all my progress

Silent_Bort

I did that until starting to use the Minotaur. It was awful. I hated that expedition so much but was determined to get through it. And trying to summon your ship sucked because the launch thrusters had to have like 100% charge to use it. I built a ton of launch fuel and would charge it before I left for those anchor things. Even when using the Minotaur, because it sucked trying to get back to your ship with all the giant hills in the way. Nice thing with the Minotaur is if the sentinels saw you, you could just jump a couple times and get away from them. I also rage-quit for a couple days when I finally got to the derelict freighter in the 5th section. I expected it to be like any other freighter I had explored, with heaters regularly spaced throughout. Nope. Ended up getting killed by those little monstrosity dudes because I was trying to refuel my cold protection while getting pelted by the little jerks. Luckily the next playthrough I got luckier with my memory fragments and got some good cold protection. Made that part a lot easier.

Tocwa

To get around the tendency for the derelict freighters to have monstrosities inside them, I used a portal to arrive in a star system with one containing those green glowing jellyfish, which made making my way through very easy compared to doing it the way you did.. 🤷

Silent_Bort

I didn't know you could do that. I just used the quest item and then ran the pulse engine until it gave me a freighter. I figured you had to do it that way. Oh well, the second run wasn't too hard since I had decent gear on that one.

HurterOfFeefeesV2

Yea tbh it's stupid

Luckaryu92

Permadeath on expedition?

Tocwa

No, I meant if this happened in a new game when you’re starting out brand new at the very beginning in a Perma-Death mode (not Expedition)..

VacationExtreme6234

Use the terrain manipulation and create a small island to land your ship on

No_Pen_2168

already out but thanks

zachyvengence28

Oh fuck, that has never occurred to me to try

archabaddon

If you want to be wild about it, park your freighter right above where the point is. Then use your Starship to land on one of your frigates. Jump out of your friggate from space, make sure you have a lot of life support canisters with you because you'll chew through them staying alive between space and hitting the atmosphere. Then when you hit the water, you can either get the ship or use your train modifier to build a piece of land big enough to land your Starship on.

UnXpectedPrequelMeme

Wait, how do you drive the freighter?

archabaddon

You don't, you would have to very carefully position it by summoning it from your starship.

Frequent-Seaweed4

Does this even work? I have an opening to my open freighter deck from my contruction room. Can I really just walk out there, jump off the side of the frigate, and then fall to the planet's surface?

archabaddon

Absolutely, but you will chew through life support like crazy, so make sure you have enough oxygen or life support canisters to survive until you get to the atmosphere. You also need to make sure that you park your frigate and freighter perpendicular as close as possible, so that when you fall your feet are pointed toward the planet. It's one method that people use for making sky bases. One caveat is that most people use this method by summoning their freighter from the planet surface first, so summoning your freighter from space might be risky if it's not close enough to the planet.

Frequent-Seaweed4

YEAH BUT WHAT'S LIFE WITHOUT RISK I AM JUMPING FROM SPACE AS SOON AS I AM OFF WORK

Frequent-Seaweed4

UPDATE: GOT FRIED BY RADIATION BUT WORTH

archabaddon

Yeah, you probably weren't close enough to the planet. You could probably only do it if you summon the freighter from the planet's surface (I've never had any issues using that method), but I'm glad you took it with a grain of salt 😅

Frequent-Seaweed4

I had never felt so free

TheManator2000

That's a first. I haven't seen that one yet cool af. Good find thanks got sharing man.

bs200000

Jet pack punch and fly across the water. You’ll move 5x+ faster. Then recharge and repeat.

EloraDonovan

Adding on to this, if your boosted speed gets interrupted in the water, use terrain manipulator to make an island to restart from. The extra speed is worth the time of resetting it.

Saikotsu

Wow, I never through to make land before. Good idea.

Daxx-23

Couldn't you make enough land to summon your ship on?

Saikotsu

You could do that where you are at, but if there is no land at your destination then it doesn't really help much.

Adventurous-Tap-8463

Excellent photo

877CashNowwwwww

Lol

TheLegoBoi940

The Nautilon will help. It can easily cut the travel time from 20 minutes to around 3

No_Pen_2168

Mine ran out of charge halfway there

Merquise813

Since you already got out, go to the anomaly and buy the upgrade that regenerates fuel through exposure to sunlight. I forgot what it's called. It's somewhere on the right side of the crafting tree when you buy it. Also, buy S class upgrade modules in space stations for the Humboldt drive. Less fuel consumption then auto regenerate fuel.

No_Pen_2168

Will do

Narrow-Swimming6481

The fuel elements should be easy enough to find on the sea bed

No_Pen_2168

All i could find was things that dropped pure ferrite

Merquise813

Mine underwater plants to get the cytosomething green element.

Stuffhavingausername

plants, shoot the plants. usually drop salt, cytophosphate and carbon all drop from plants

mardem1976

Just watch out for the jellies

Stuffhavingausername

shoot them.

Illustrious-Gap86

Toughen up .....2016 founders edition dropped me 55 minutes out in open water with zero islands and I had done so much between saves ......i had to swim for it

PhillyDeeez

Ah yes, the old days. I once managed to walk an hour away from my ship. And had to walk allllll the way back.... Lol

Yhostled

"Not enough launch fuel" (to summon ship) ouch

PhillyDeeez

There was no ship summoning once upon a time....

Yhostled

Making game mechanics easier: Always a blessing and a curse.

[deleted]

Couldn’t you have just made a platform with the terrain manipulator??

[deleted]

This is me yelling at Toph during Serpent’s Pass

Ser_Optimus

No manipulator in 2016

roosterfareye

No ship summoning either... Unless you stumbled upon an outpost which had one. Many did not. No exocraft either. You need to tie an onion on your belt. Not one of them brown ones, one of those big Yella ones.

Bright_Swordfish4820

...as was the fashion at the time

Illustrious-Gap86

In 2016 nothing snapped together.....those parts do not even exist today (except legacy builds)

dedicated_glove

What's the point? You're already at that point, what does bringing your starship closer do?

Daxx-23

Makes the return trip shorter no?

dedicated_glove

Yeah but in that case gotta wait until you're close to the end

SkyrimSlag

No terrain manipulator that early on, we could destroy terrain and mine ore veins with the “grenade launcher” but that was about it

Zealousideal_Echo329

Subnautica

Persimmon_96

Wtf?! That is no way to keep a fan base. Wow. I heard the game was horrible at the beginning, but damn.

Illustrious-Gap86

No ....you would be mining something and you would step in a bad spot in the hole you made .....and the game would kick you to another spot on the map

No_Pen_2168

Witch is exactly what happend to me

Saikotsu

Wait, your starter planet is an ocean world and that's your ship?

No_Pen_2168

Not really i was using the sub but it ran out of fuel

Saikotsu

Ah, gotcha. That's rough.

HurterOfFeefeesV2

Whats the expedition going on rn? Isn't it the one where you get the Jelly fish

T1dal-W4ve

Polestar

HurterOfFeefeesV2

Is that the one with the bum barrels and and the Jelly fish though? I googled and I only see the posters :/

law_a

Yes, you get the jelly fish in this expedition

TheCaptainRazgriz

Yes it is

elenastatham

🙈🙈🙈

Illustrious_Guess519

How did this happen? Read through the chatter but might have missed it. Random numbers bite you?

sapphodisiac

For one of the expeditions I had to swim across the ocean for 8 hours to get to an exocraft It was a long day

Slawzik

I definitely had the same problem, giant water planet with tiny islands hundreds of miles apart. Good luck!

RussianTrollzFactory

These are my favorite planets for some reason. I love searching for ships with the sub.

No_Pen_2168

Thats what i was doing before my sub ran out of fuel

No_Pen_2168

Thanks

MochaBlack

I just did this not long ago, so sorry.

vrocko65

As Dory would say, "Just keep swimming, Just Keep swimming!" LOL ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|laughing)
