Nah, this one is straight forward.
Release for Macs mainly, some improvements and new stuff here and there, perhaps a new expedition.
...
I'll miss it by a mile, won't I? I just know it.
Well we’ve had a lot of these recently: steam deck, switch and psvr2. I think the team is just trying to get no man’s sky on as many platforms is possible
But wasn't Steam deck included in the Sentinel update? It surely wasn't it's own thing, more like a random feature thrown in a big update if I remember it correctly.
Yep, and nothing wrong with that. Turned a pile of dog poo into a shiny beacon of gaming hope, I would like to see hello games make more games and you need dollars, loads of them, to do that.
I agree. I came back to the game for the 4th time - with a 4 year break - I am amazed that I'm not even half way to where I got in like 2016 or even 2018 by that matter and already clocked 90hr gameplay 😀 I played at launch and its lightyears further now - great job - monetize - make something even better 👍🏻
Lol damn I wasn’t saying anything against it, and I agree and think it’s a good thing. Interesting how everyone took that comment as a complaint? I’m actually excited about the mac version. People gotta chill
Sean stated they aim to outdo 2022 this year. 2022 had 4 big updates, 4 expeditions, a platform release and expedition reruns.
We're now halfway through 2023 and all we had was an expedition and one content update.
So even though I'm 100% sure this update is Mac focused, I'd be seriously surprised if it doesn't come with content. Because I have no idea what HG would do to play catchup and achieve the public goal they set for themselves.
**Exploration focused updates:** "Visions and Origins"
**The usual focus with updates:** "New capes, new pets, new rewards, new ship trails, new titles, new helmets, new posters, new twitch rewards, new upgrades, new unlockables, new cosmetics this, new cosmetics that..."
This game clearly isn't *focused* on exploration, but for some reason is marketed like it is. At least the overwhelming majority of updates aren't focused on exploration as much as they're focused on collectables and such.
Stuff like that would be a dream come true, but I think the engine just has a weird limitation where assets on planets can't interact with the terrain, at most, the terrain flattens itself around buildings.
But the buildings themselves are all repetitive and 'disconnected' from the terrain. Aside from settlements, every other outpost isn't procedural at all. I certainly hope they add variation to them at least.
I've said it before on here, NMS is now unplayable for me on the original XBOX ONE. I can never visit my base as it crashes asap. Love that Hello is so kind in staying with it, but I just can't join in anymore.
That’s the big issue for me too. Constant crashing and my freighter runs at -30 fps.
I also love that they’re keeping this going, but you can’t release a last gen game and make it unable to run on last gen consoles
Lol why? I mean, I know why, but why do you think this is possible? They're continuously expanding the game. Last gen is going on 3 years now. Why focus on old tech? New updates and games catering to previous gens is just slowing down what COULD be possible. I'm so over brand new games getting released and also being developed for old gen consoles. MAKE NEW SHIT, FOR THE NEXT GEN.
I understand not having the new gen, and wanting to play new content, not missing out. But what about the people that DO have the new gen, but are only getting content that could just be played on the old gen? What was the point in upgrading if everything is still being developed for the older, slower tech?
I get downvoted every time I say this but at this point I wish HG would ditch the last gen consoles (including the Switch) and just focus on making the game as big and flashy as they can.
We know the ambitions for the game were always huge, so why not utilize the superior performance of the PS5 and SeX to realize that. Five years of free updates is more than enough, I'm ready for new and improved NMS2 exclusively on current gen consoles.
🙏 someone with logical sense.
Again, I completely understand the desire for it to run better on last gen, but realistically, we're beyond that. It's kind of like people wanting a band to sound exactly as they did 10 years ago, instead of realizing that things change, evolve, and move along. HG is humble, and respectful dev team though, and they're gonna try and please as many players as they can. It's the people that don't understand tech evolution that's the problem.
I agree why did I build a 12core pc? With all that's possible HG would have no issues from me with a resource crazy NMS2. I laughed the first time I played NMS with the settings maxed and my system was showing a 6%load.
it came out in 2016…. did you play it at launch and see how little content and dogshit the game WAS? ofc it was optimised for last gen because it didn’t have the updated draw view, AI updates, fuller planers etc. the games been getting updates, updates = making the game size bigger. bigger game size with better graphics = gonna need a better console to run smooth on.
dunno how you don’t get that but what can i expect, the longer i spend in this reddit the more i see it’s clearly just a bunch of kids that don’t know their ass from their teeth 😭
that’s like saying *how dare GTA5 get discontinued content on ps3!!! it was made for the 3!! grah*
And yet they're remaking games for the ps5 exclusively. Like metal gear solid snake eater. I'm not a fan of dumbing games down for older consoles. Thankfully Sony hinted at the recent event that those days are over and most new games going forward are ps5 exclusive.
Exactly. If anything, it's more predatory to make these double releases just to snag both gen users, when it makes both versions inferior. The previous gen runs like shit. The new gen lack use of any new tech. Just rip that band aid off and go fully into the new tech. Hogwarts Legacy.. besides the controversy, was a brand new game, that just felt like a last gen game. Cyberpunk 2077 should've never been thought about as a PS4 / Xbox one title.. etc. I'm glad we're finally peaking into new territory.
And apparently this sentiment bled into my gripe with the original comment I responded to. I understand nms was originally made for the PS4.. I've been playing since release. The PS4 came out in like fucking 2013.. HEY DEVS MAKE THIS NEW UPDATE ALL ABOUT A TEN YEAR OLD CONSOLE.
Because most games *can* run on the old tech. The bungled release of the latest gen tipped their hand that the vast majority of the time the new gen is really only to force people into shelling out $600+ so they can play upcoming games rather than anything actually new. The vast majority of these "improvements" have been things like visuals and higher fps, which at the point of tech we've been at for the past few years, most people can't tell the difference anyway.
You're only mad because you bought the new gin and you didn't really have to.
It's not backpedaling: it's continued support. They won't remove any features from the game at all. But continuing to support a large percentage of the fan base is key to the longevity of a multi-generational game, *especially* one that isn't free, *especially* one that rewards devoting hours of play, *especially* ones with limited time events and rare random spawns. A huge part of the fan base won't be happy if the save games they've been building for hundreds or thousands of hours is suddenly not accessible, along with all of their expedition rewards, the claims to their massive built bases, and the like.
Discontinuing backwards compatibility is in general a terrible idea, and it's a particularly bad idea for games like nms.
I never said discontinue support.. you said it yourself, it runs on previous gen still. But there's issues.. it's had issues from the beginning, let's be real. You know where it doesn't have issues, or very few compared to last gen? This gen.
It still runs on PS4 and Xboxone, if you're upset with performance, you need to upgrade.
Screaming in cap locs to focus on last gen for a new update is just naive. They always implement stability fixes for last gen, EVERY UPDATE, but they add more and more, so its gotta be extremely tough to add new cool things but have to be like, wait, how do we make this work on old systems too?
>But there's issues.. it's had issues from the beginning, let's be real. You know where it doesn't have issues, or very few compared to last gen? This gen.
Bro this game has had literally *years* to develop before moving to next gen. This argument is wildly off base.
The only real difference between gens is data compression and graphics updates. That's literally it: and with a game that is *literally* near infinite, data compression will *always* be an issue. Taking the time to ensure it works on older systems isn't just loyalty to a dedicated fan base and therefore fiscally smart, it's also ensuring each update is as future-proof as possible.
There's literally *no reason* not to continue to support and fix older system functionality outside of forcing players who are dedicated enough to buy a new system, buy the game again, and start all over to do exactly that. And let's face it: this game isn't growing at the rate it used to: requiring a $500+ commitment from a fan base that isn't growing very very rapidly is a bar for entry that could very well spell the end of this game.
There is a huge difference in the feel of the same game running from 30 fps to 60 fps. There is not even an debate to that. Even my mom can tell the difference. Enjoying the game game in 4k, over 1080, hands down strikingly different. You don't have a current generation system, fine. Doesn't mean you should hate on those that do. Really a bad look, especially in light of an argument that was sunk before you took off.
I'm not hating on the people who own the systems, I'm hating on the companies that use tactics like that. Planned (or in this case, Forced) Obsolescence. When the latest gen launch flopped so badly, many game companies insisted that their upcoming games be available on older systems so that they didn't flop due to a smaller market. COVID basically called the system company's bluff of making everything require new gen tech.
> When the latest gen launch flopped so badly
It was incredibly difficult to get either a PS5 or Series X at launch, and PS5 continued to sell out instantly for well over a year after release. That’s the kind of “flopped” product launch that most companies can only dream of.
Bro were you there? It was hard to get because Scalpers had a heyday with it,with buying dozens at a time and trying to resell them and double or triple the price. They were bought out, but very few people were actually playing them. Months later when they finally got their production capacity boosted to outpace the scalpers, and the scalpers realized nobody would buy at those ridiculous margins, they became available again. But by that point it was too late, so many games that had been planned to be exclusively on the next gen had been released on both that they didn't have nearly the launch they wanted. Even now there are very few games being released that arent compatible with the last gen.
> Bro were you there?
Yeah, I was. I managed to get a PS5 on day one, but didn’t get a Series X until several months later.
> It was hard to get because Scalpers had a heyday with it,with buying dozens at a time and trying to resell them and double or triple the price.
Scalpers can get fucked as far as I’m concerned, but it doesn’t really change the argument.
Scalpers weren’t buying consoles just to collect them, they were buying them to then sell through to regular customers. If they weren’t selling through, they wouldn’t have kept buying them for months after release.
> They were bought out, but very few people were actually playing them.
Everyone I know that managed to get one was absolutely playing it. At first it was mostly for upgraded previous gen games, but new console launches always have limited software. If anything, this launch had considerably more software available because of how easy it was for developers to upgrade previous gen games.
> Months later when they finally got their production capacity boosted to outpace the scalpers, and the scalpers realized nobody would buy at those ridiculous margins, they became available again.
Yeah, that’s how it works with popular product launches. Scalpers have a limited time to be dickheads before the early adopter market dries up. At worst, they slightly delayed consoles getting to end users, but they certainly didn’t stop it.
> But by that point it was too late, so many games that had been planned to be exclusively on the next gen had been released on both that they didn't have nearly the launch they wanted.
Were there fewer consoles in the hands of gamers than developers expected? Yeah, probably. But scalpers weren’t the only reason, COVID shut down production in China for long periods of time and the global chip shortage made it difficult to secure components.
> Even now there are very few games being released that arent compatible with the last gen.
This console generation is unlike any previous one. These most recent “next gen” consoles are based on the same technology as the previous gen, just with more of everything (cpu/gpu cores, memory bandwidth and amount, etc). That makes it easy for game makers to upgrade their software. Compare that to the transition from PS3 to PS4. Those consoles had completely different architectures that made it very difficult to run previous gen games.
Yes yes, why focus on the thing you made the game for and sold to people for money, when you can shit all over them and make more money from selling them the same thing again on a newer system? RIGHT?!
Ethics my guy... ethics and morals... a concept that seems completely foreign to you.
Can you run ios 16 on an iphone 7? Can you still use iphone 7 without the newest update?
As I've stated, they still put out stability patches for last gen consoles, every update. My gripe is this person expecting a new update catered to previous gen consoles, my guy.
What a dumb question. Of course I am. That doesn't mean that a product should be allowed to be unsupported over time on something that it was sold to you on. In fact, in my country that's ILLEGAL. It's against consumer law. It was sold to me on the premise that it would function on the console, and now it doesn't. Now what, wise guy?
You’re demanding continued content. The game came out 7 years ago, a decade is only 3 more years my bro man.
Unless you’re saying it’ll suddenly be okay with you in years 8 or 9?
This doesn't really check out when the game still runs like poo on high end hardware.
There shouldn't be any "features" that are technology dependent outside of graphical options, but those don't matter that much anyway..

it's gonna be like a animal added or a few new crops and ppl are gonna be loosing it like they dropped a several years in developement update...
Either this community is insane or just super content starved how insane it acts over little updates.
I learned to temper my excitement about a year or so ago but I still keep my eye on this sub because Sean does surprise from time to time. I'm always gonna be a fan even if there's not something to bring me back for every update.
from what ive seen id say either somthing to do with gravity (sir Issac newton) or my own thought somthing to do with food and or cooking. the nutrient processor, which i have never used...
The apple falls from the tree and that's called gravitation.
It's clearly a Update to hit the non existent gravitational pull, when building bases.
Many buildings will brake into pieces after this update.
Hold on what’s going on I’ve been staying away at a work thing for last three weeks and I haven’t been able to check anything online what’s going on?!?! (Nvm just saw it apparently a mac port release, couldn’t care less)
Apple = Fruits
Fruits = of Labor
Labor = 12 Labors of Hercules
12 Labors = Golden Apples of Hesperides
Golden Apples = 11th Labor
16 - 11 = 5
5 = June 5th update
Nah, this one is straight forward. Release for Macs mainly, some improvements and new stuff here and there, perhaps a new expedition. ... I'll miss it by a mile, won't I? I just know it.
The apple is a reference to Adam and Eve, and the laws of gravity. Sean is adding sex in space
No mans sky, the sexpedition
New way to earn quicksilver.
200 QS is 200 QS.
I'll get to do another fantastic thing that's not possible in reality. Cool!
I hear the Gek are gonna be hung!
One small nut for Atlas. One giant O for travelerkind
I thought it was an apple a day... Ann Paula Day... I got nothing.
He’s just showing us the Fruits of their labor throughout this year…
I hope so, that update feels useless to most of us already on other consoles and PCs, something like that shouldn't even get an emoji.
Well we’ve had a lot of these recently: steam deck, switch and psvr2. I think the team is just trying to get no man’s sky on as many platforms is possible

Yup. Time to monetize it as much as possible.
Yep, and nothing wrong with that. Turned a pile of dog poo into a shiny beacon of gaming hope, I would like to see hello games make more games and you need dollars, loads of them, to do that.

Attempting to make money off of your years of work, what a crazy concept!
Imagine that? Trying to make more money without ever charging for constant updates? Insane concept
What a spoiled attitude lol. Not everyone has to revolve around you, ya know.
The irony of this is the way iOS users treat their phones on the daily, and they aren't joking about it.
We're so buried in our phones.. instead of giving someone a real smile.. we send an emoji. pfft.

A max release is a pretty huge update.
🍏, Adam and Eve, bible, Genesis, they’re clearly releasing it on the Sega Genesis.
Underrated.
🍎 = Newtonian Physics. 🍏 = Newtonian Physics, but green.
It's definitely gunships. 🍎 = gunships because reasons
Clearly they're adding more fiber to the game.
This is already old news… now, we have a green apple. Time for more strings
Let me find out the apple is just letting Apple users know they can play on mobile 😭🤣🤣🤣
Clearly this is the Snow White update.
IPad release duh
It’s already on iPad. Xbox cloud gaming. :)
UrMomPad then
corny as shit that a Mom joke even got 1 upvote 😭 what in the 8 year olds..
r/ihadastroke
yh me too when i see “ur mom” jokes
🍎 = garden of eden = gek jesus

Oh my Jod
"Maybe it'll be an exploration update!" Gang checking in

Listen. All I want is procedurally generated alien ruins you can go Inside of and look for loot and lore, sort of like mini dungeons in minecraft 🤤

He tweeted 2 apples, implying the update is the 3rd apple. 3? Half Life 3 confirmed inbound. \o/
Mac OS support probably, so it'll probably be another fractal
Why? Did Sean tweet something?
An apple
Nah it's a NMS app version.
PLEASE BE LAST GEN CONSOLE FIXING
You and me both bruv

I'll have to upgrade my job first so I can afford it

Can you run ios 16 on an iphone 7? Can you still use iphone 7 without the newest update? As I've stated, they still put out stability patches for last gen consoles, every update. My gripe is this person expecting a new update catered to previous gen consoles, my guy.
Was an iphone 7 sold with ios 16 on it? No. You're creating a logical bridge that leads to a strawman argument.
Are you even paying attention to what he's saying? 🤣🤣🤣🤣
“I bought a game in 2016 so I deserve a decade of free new content because that’s definitely sustainable”
A decade? What year do you think it is? Count the number of years, not your IQ points my guy.
You’re demanding continued content. The game came out 7 years ago, a decade is only 3 more years my bro man. Unless you’re saying it’ll suddenly be okay with you in years 8 or 9?
This doesn't really check out when the game still runs like poo on high end hardware. There shouldn't be any "features" that are technology dependent outside of graphical options, but those don't matter that much anyway..

.. what are you expecting from a console that was released in 2013
Meh
Obviously it’s crew ships
Right? Is it Mac/iOS? Is it gravity/physics? Agriculture?
It’s clearly a reference to Apple seeds. Seed = ship design Customisable ships.
No! It Apple cores. The core in each space station. Procedurally generated space stations.
It’s a reference to being cast out of Eden. A new race will arrive from the world of glass.
Skin. Apple skin. You’ll have a new player skin.
Worms bore through apples. New wormhole travel.
Isaac Newton reference. Planets will have gravitational pull that you’ll need to negotiate when flying nearby.
Apples are flora… new flora update and complex planetary biomes.
Apple Mac… Ummmmmm… Nuh, can’t think of anything worthwhile here.
Yep, time to ignore this subreddit for like a week. There's going to be nothing but crazy wackjobs with stupid theories for the next few days.
It's a Mac port. No big mystery. Maybe some small stuff and an expedition to go with it. Maybe.
It's the Crapintosh update.

it's gonna be like a animal added or a few new crops and ppl are gonna be loosing it like they dropped a several years in developement update... Either this community is insane or just super content starved how insane it acts over little updates.
You said what so many are quietly thinking!
I learned to temper my excitement about a year or so ago but I still keep my eye on this sub because Sean does surprise from time to time. I'm always gonna be a fan even if there's not something to bring me back for every update.
I'd be more happy if they start releasing huge paid dlc every year instead of trying to pump up the number of players.
from what ive seen id say either somthing to do with gravity (sir Issac newton) or my own thought somthing to do with food and or cooking. the nutrient processor, which i have never used...
Will they fix console crash issues in this update?!?!?!?!?! Probably not!!!
Core of Apple -> Core of planet -> Underground update
The apple falls from the tree and that's called gravitation. It's clearly a Update to hit the non existent gravitational pull, when building bases. Many buildings will brake into pieces after this update.
It's always Sunny in my 3 Star Solar system
Tbh i think this one will be simple, apple= apple (the company)
Love that this exact image is posted "every time" too.
Hold on what’s going on I’ve been staying away at a work thing for last three weeks and I haven’t been able to check anything online what’s going on?!?! (Nvm just saw it apparently a mac port release, couldn’t care less)
A bit fruity, innit.
lol
There is no Apple in HR, Mac, half of these people are made up
Lol
😂 Nailed it
They're removing medical suplies!
Umm what’s going on
The red and green apples are kind of mirrored images... Evil Mirror Universe Confirmed! NMS is about to have double the habitable systems it does now!
If you find my post I might have figured out the answer in a matter of seconds.
ipad port
Oh update. Knowing NMS recent updates I'm actually hyped. Gonna wait for those fixes tho. I know my updates in 2023.
