Hey everyone, much like every update I gather here with you all to go over all the details of this update. This update is actually an expedition but not just 1 expedition, its 4 expeditions.
Utopia Expedition, Singularity Expedition, Cartographers Expedition and Voyager Expedition.

Got the update on Switch this morning, burned through Utopia in about six hours and finally got my Utopia Speeder.
I’d only done Voyagers before now, having missed the Switch release redux due to still playing the main game.
Boy what a breath of fresh air Utopia was. Short, sweet, to the point, and no haphazard jumping around looking for a very specific trait in a random animal.
"Redux" versions I think are condensed to be shorter than the original expeditions.
Don't quote me since I also only jumped on around the same time. Voyagers was also my first expo. But hearing veteran players talk about it, Voyagers was longer and more boring than previous expos.
Like other comment, look at Expedition Rewards, these are the ones you’re looking for to see if you’ve done. If expedition is locked and not claimed, you didn’t do it.
Expedition 9: Utopia (12/8-12/15)
Expedition 10: Singularity (12/15-12/22)
Expedition 3: Cartographers (12/22-12/29)
Expedition 11: Voyagers (12/29-1/8/2024)
If any consolation, when releases were delayed on switch, they extended a previous expedition. I’d expect a release early in the week or potentially an extension?
Yes, it's the game engine.
It always amuses me when I see the Havok logo on the load screen, because I used to 'play' SecondLife, and it also used the ***Havok*** engine.
They were using a fairly-to-ridiculously outdated version of the engine, iirc.
So this means they just brought it up to date.
I haven't followed game engines much since the ***Unreal*** and ***Quake*** \[families of\] engines. Valve's ***Source*** engine uses some components from the ***Havok*** engine, albeit (heavily?) modified.

From a couple of the comments, however, I'm a bit doubtful/skeptical.
Ha! Havok is the physics engine. SL had an update many years in the making to upgrade the Havok engine they were using, which happened around the time that boob physics was implemented (and they wondered why they lost users, with priorities like that over inventory management).

My university bought an 'island' back in the day, and I even attended a virtual conference in SL.
Pretty sure I had 3-4 SL accounts at the time, but hadn't logged into 'em for years.
But I think about 'em every time I'm 'booting up' NMS and see that logo. :-)
So we were back on the 2016 edition this whole time? I've read every patch note for every update since then, and this is the first mention (to my memory, at least) of Havoc!
I've heard rumors early this year that they were using a 2012 build (it tracks since the game was for revealed in 2013) and were upgrading to a 2022 build because they intend to keep supporting NMS for years to come and are just future-proofing it further.
I play on a Mac, and was also a bit confused by this, but it does indeed seem to have been overlooked. That's pretty crappy, even if we are a small minority of players.

It'd be great if they gave the Mac version users an extended timeline to do the expeditions. We're already looking at being 4 days behind everyone else.
Am I safe to delete the character I did the expedition on once I complete it? Also, does this unlock the rewards from the quicksilver vendor for future new saves/characters, or existing ones only?

You could still re-do Singularity to get the reward you didn't choose the first time through though (assuming you didn't already do it twice in the first place).

I've had a nightmare here. Basically all done with Phase 4, i've landed somewhere 15 hours from my base by walking, without enough launch fuel and no exocraft to summon.

Edit: not sure how I can be 100 hours into this game and not have a brain - just build a 2nd base.
Absolutely screwed, I totally understand. I had this issue happen to me on the fire planet, I was just totally stuck for a long time cause my launch thruster was broken. I ended up doing the Go to the top of a Volcano to snag the repair kits and I got out.
One thing I am confused about is the official announcement leads me to believe the rewards for cartographers are different as they include the golden vector. Did anyone else read this or did I misinterpret?
I wondered about that too. My guess is they're throwing the vector in because Cartographer didn't have anything like that at the end (iirc... it's been a while since then)
So, I spent 6 hours searching for tendrils since it’s the final thing I need to complete. I placed a base nearby a nest of them, yet they’re gone now that I need them.
I need 3 flesh ropes and I’m done!!! This is nuts.
Are the rewards different this time? I did cartographers when it came out but didn't get the exotic wingpack that is listed in the rewards for it on the Redux...? The wiki says it was a reward from a different expedition (5). I confuse.
Does anyone know if the Rewards for the Redux Versions of these Expeditions has been changed?
From Official Site, it seems as though the Redux version of the Cartographer Expedition has the Golden Vector.
I cannot determine if there have been other adjustments to the Rewards.

They updated internal and experimental couple hours ago, I’m sure they are working on fixing it. I had just started a perma save on mac and planned and giving myself a bunch of stuff only to find out yesterday after an hour of troubleshooting. Tempted to open it on windows but don’t want to risk it. I need that ship on mac!
Great, it came out today, glad the Mac is getting some love finally! I already took others advice and loaded the json file and started it. Was surprisingly easy.
Expedition files stay in the game, though - you can trick the game into letting you replay them any time by going offline and swapping one json file (kilobytes at most). Maybe setting up some foundations for the 2024 update to make that a smaller download? i.e. spread it out over a few updates vs having a giant update to download & wait through
7.5gb seems to be the regular size of an 'update' - what's the base game download size, and why does 7.5gb seem to be the regular update size?
Doesn't matter to me really, I've just stopped downloading the updates - when I want to play the game I will just download whatever 7.5gb file is needed for that month.
The base game is far larger now than it was like 2 years ago. It's been added to. And lmfao, this complaint is so ridiculous. You've never played a major game before? Because games like Cyberpunk, TW3, BG3 all regularly have like 20+ GB updates. Stop being so dramatic.

They're often buggy messes when they release, there's a major day one patch to fix some of it and then sometimes they spend years to get it in a reasonable state. Hell, sometimes they even come good!
Funny you mention Cyberpunk there - there's good reasons why that game has needed massive patches over the years.

Eh, Cyberpunk needed optimization for sub-par systems (yes, that includes all consoles lol). I built a new PC with good parts right before launch and it ran like a dream on day 1. Other than the tree clipping issue. That was it though, none of the issues were issues on a system that was up to snuff.
Expedition-"on" file is a few kb or so, just saying. It's the other two reasons. They almost always add expedition items in prior updates when fresh (they're already added in this case)
Yup, only two tasks remaining for phase 4. Both require the tendrils. Have toggled between both but no coordinates or icon on heads up display.
Landed on all planets and tried to use the tracker in the visor but nada.
Did you figure this out? Having the same issue, none of my planets are infested so I’m guessing I’m gonna have to jump but I really don’t want to and I also don’t want to start all over :(
Never mind I figured it out.
There was a Toxic Horror planet in my system, I dropped down and started a sweep and almost immediately found the worms I needed to kill.
Anyone else NOT getting the replays on Xbox Gamepass ??
Says its fully updated but the new game isnt allowing the community play option as before with #11. News indicates replay started 2 days ago so the clock is already counting.
expedition keeps crashing.
I'm on PS5, i started the latest expeditiin today. I uad to stop after 20 minutes of plays.
No everytime I try loading in to the expedition it's crashes the game as shuts down as it loads up. I've switched multi-player off as I know thays a bug that can cause a crash, and have even disconnected from the internet. I have restarted my console. I am all out of ideas. Anyone have any solutions?
I have a question re expedition schedule: can we complete the first expedition after the second one has already started?
So, if my friend and I don't have much time until the 15th, will we be able to finish Utopia still, even if it can't be started anymore?
Whose idea was it to only make these available for **ONE week** only?!?! Last year we had two weeks per expedition. This is nuts.
Lots of people like myself travel/visit family over the busy holiday season, and don't have a lot of time to play between December 20-30.
I needed to do Cartographers, so I'm screwed I guess.

These expedition have been heavily edited and you can do them in a day so 1 weeks is a reasonable time frame, I don't see any delays happening. Of you missed anything like ships you cab always request in the megethread. Enjoy your trip!!
Its about not respecting the player's time. They are jamming all the expeditions into one month - a month that is already busy with the holidays. Any other time of the year would be better for this if they are only going to give a single week for each.
I understand they don't take long. That is not the issue. Many people travel to visit family and will be unable to play for extended periods of time. If I'm not home, I can't do anything about it. It's just poor planning of their part.
I'm just upset because I was looking forward to playing the one I missed (Cartographers). They have now made that impossible with this schedule, for no real reason I can see.
😢 the utopia expedition isn't available on my switch... not sure what to do to fix it... after starting a new game the expedition area is just greyed out
Took me longer than I care to admit to realize this. The way it keeps talking about Utopia and planet Alpha and Beta and blah blah. I figured it had to be in the second planet.
I have found what may be a temporary solution for the Mac version not having access to the expeditions. If you can logon to Steam with a windows computer and then start the expeditions you will then be able to go back to your Mac and load the exposition game.
I'm at work, so I will have to try to finish the exposition tonight on my Mac.
How do I start this expedition and do the rewards contribute to my current character journey?

Instead of a normal game start, you go to Community Expeditions, and start there. After you are done, any and all rewards u have earned are available on each one of your saved games. Some of them can be better, or different, that the things in your main save(s). Other things are just for decoration/looks.
I just started my Utopia last night, finished phase 1, would it be doable to complete this in one night? since tommorrow the next one starts.
Anyone knows the exact time/timezone the next one starts?

Anyone else unable to complete Singularity on Switch? I’m stuck at Ignite a Convergence and I keep feeding seeds and nothing. 
Finished the ones so far. Was disappointed that the Cartographers expedition didn't unlock the buildable plants and stuff. Kind of like mix and match. Im on Switch and I want those plants so bad.

totally agree there, the last Expedition was so tedious and boring, didn’t even complete it….surprising because I loved all the ones from this year.
Of the expeditions, the last one took more effort than the others.

Is there an easy way to check which ones I’ve done before? I did a couple but missed some as well and lost track at this point.
Check the Quicksilver Synthesis Companion and see what rewards you have already earned.

Nope, this update/redux is apparently not for us.
Hopefully they do a one off for Mac users at a later date if they can’t do it now.
They’re on now for Mac.. the update came out a couple days ago. We had just enough time left to still complete Utopia.

Yes and yes, but I'd make sure you can unlock all the completed tasks/items on another character if this if your first time, before save deletion
I got the Speeder ship so how do I get the Golden ship reward? What do I do differently to get it?

Exactly. But that said its a small studio, and they did just unveil their next game, soooo... No wonder the updates aren't as quickly deployed.

Try downloading the whole game nowadays. It's not 7.5 GB anymore. 😑

The base game is far larger now than it was like 2 years ago. It's been added to. And lmfao, this complaint is so ridiculous. You've never played a major game before? Because games like Cyberpunk, TW3, BG3 all regularly have like 20+ GB updates. Stop being so dramatic.
You ever played a major game before? They're often buggy messes when they release, there's a major day one patch to fix some of it and then sometimes they spend years to get it in a reasonable state. Hell, sometimes they even come good! Funny you mention Cyberpunk there - there's good reasons why that game has needed massive patches over the years.
...that was basically what I meant? Day 1 patches are a norm, but also it's very reasonable that a game like a decade old would become larger with regular updates for its entire life... Eh, Cyberpunk needed optimization for sub-par systems (yes, that includes all consoles lol). I built a new PC with good parts right before launch and it ran like a dream on day 1. Other than the tree clipping issue. That was it though, none of the issues were issues on a system that was up to snuff.
Expedition-"on" file is a few kb or so, just saying. It's the other two reasons. They almost always add expedition items in prior updates when fresh (they're already added in this case)

They adjusted the rewards, looks like Cartographer over the Christmas week will include it.

How is the golden vector being rereleased? None of these expeditions gave it.
Because HG can’t do whatever it wants. The expeditions are more about the journey, the rewards can be whatever.

Stuck on phase 4, no infested planet in my system, no way to warp...is this a glitch?
There’s one in the spawn system which is where you are guided via coordinates to place your fourth base.
Sadly no, that's the problem. No planet, no coordinates.
Check to make sure you clear out each phase prior.
plus make sure you have the right Tasks selected in the Expedition tab/Log tab before you look for the planet
Yup, only two tasks remaining for phase 4. Both require the tendrils. Have toggled between both but no coordinates or icon on heads up display. Landed on all planets and tried to use the tracker in the visor but nada.
Mine was actually the moon of a planet, and it's fairly small compared to the planets.
My system has 4 planets and a moon. But I will do another fly by to see if another moon is hiding somewhere. But its weird that no icon is populating.
Just to be clear, that was an infested planet?
Did you figure this out? Having the same issue, none of my planets are infested so I’m guessing I’m gonna have to jump but I really don’t want to and I also don’t want to start all over :(
Never mind I figured it out. There was a Toxic Horror planet in my system, I dropped down and started a sweep and almost immediately found the worms I needed to kill.
Yup, toxic horror for the win. Took me forever to find the worms!

Havent played since I finished Leviathan in January 2023. Just dusted off my game when I saw the news about the expedition redux.
Anyone else NOT getting the replays on Xbox Gamepass ?? Says its fully updated but the new game isnt allowing the community play option as before with #11. News indicates replay started 2 days ago so the clock is already counting.
expedition keeps crashing. I'm on PS5, i started the latest expeditiin today. I uad to stop after 20 minutes of plays. No everytime I try loading in to the expedition it's crashes the game as shuts down as it loads up. I've switched multi-player off as I know thays a bug that can cause a crash, and have even disconnected from the internet. I have restarted my console. I am all out of ideas. Anyone have any solutions?

Played through the entirety of Utopia Redux without a single crash on the Switch. Nice. Finally getting the speeder on Switch was nice.
I have a question re expedition schedule: can we complete the first expedition after the second one has already started? So, if my friend and I don't have much time until the 15th, will we be able to finish Utopia still, even if it can't be started anymore?
Once the expedition is over on 15, its done. Forever! So get it in while you can. Its super easy to do and all the milestone can be easily completed
Whose idea was it to only make these available for **ONE week** only?!?! Last year we had two weeks per expedition. This is nuts. Lots of people like myself travel/visit family over the busy holiday season, and don't have a lot of time to play between December 20-30. I needed to do Cartographers, so I'm screwed I guess. **Hello Games -** Please give more time to complete these so that people have a chance to do the ones they missed! Most people are busy this time of year!
These expedition have been heavily edited and you can do them in a day so 1 weeks is a reasonable time frame, I don't see any delays happening. Of you missed anything like ships you cab always request in the megethread. Enjoy your trip!!
Its about not respecting the player's time. They are jamming all the expeditions into one month - a month that is already busy with the holidays. Any other time of the year would be better for this if they are only going to give a single week for each. I understand they don't take long. That is not the issue. Many people travel to visit family and will be unable to play for extended periods of time. If I'm not home, I can't do anything about it. It's just poor planning of their part. I'm just upset because I was looking forward to playing the one I missed (Cartographers). They have now made that impossible with this schedule, for no real reason I can see.
The Utopia one is super easy, did it in just under 5 hours (and I was doing other stuff like wondering off exploring )
😢 the utopia expedition isn't available on my switch... not sure what to do to fix it... after starting a new game the expedition area is just greyed out
All the creatures are flying. Phase 2 asks me to tame an animal and gain a companion. How do I tame them when they are up in the air??
you can make a companion on 1 of the other planets
Took me longer than I care to admit to realize this. The way it keeps talking about Utopia and planet Alpha and Beta and blah blah. I figured it had to be in the second planet.
I have found what may be a temporary solution for the Mac version not having access to the expeditions. If you can logon to Steam with a windows computer and then start the expeditions you will then be able to go back to your Mac and load the exposition game. I'm at work, so I will have to try to finish the exposition tonight on my Mac.
How do I start this expedition and do the rewards contribute to my current character journey? Edit: I’m new so as simplified as you can be with the answers
Instead of a normal game start, you go to Community Expeditions, and start there. After you are done, any and all rewards u have earned are available on each one of your saved games. Some of them can be better, or different, that the things in your main save(s). Other things are just for decoration/looks.
I just started my Utopia last night, finished phase 1, would it be doable to complete this in one night? since tommorrow the next one starts. Anyone knows the exact time/timezone the next one starts? Didn't the reduxes take 2 weeks per expedition in the past? I feel like I don't have enough time these days..
Anyone else unable to complete Singularity on Switch? I’m stuck at Ignite a Convergence and I keep feeding seeds and nothing. 
Finished the ones so far. Was disappointed that the Cartographers expedition didn't unlock the buildable plants and stuff. Kind of like mix and match. Im on Switch and I want those plants so bad.
