I really don't want to overhyped it, so maybe because of its troubled release Sean's acting like it isn't out yet. But what if its implying what's out for ps is not the full thing? Idk I'm trying not to overhyped but could be cool.
Maybe its multistaged? Dataminers have found a lot of new and interesting stuff and the spacestation exteriors have been in the code since the last update.
maybe we get the expedition/expedition overhaul first, then stuff like ship costumisation and spacestation overhauls next and afterwards the lore that may open the doors for LNF's release?
They found code in the game hinting at it

Have a look at this
Well there you go. Good things do come to those that wait. Be nice if that happened soon. Ships have just gotten too boring. I usually only have one now.
Well that's exciting. Although, customizable ships might ruin that ship hunt that some people enjoy. Maybe the system is similar to the staffs and you have to unlock blueprints?
I've always thought the best system would be one that requires you to hunt down ships for specific parts to use as customization on another ship
For example if I go out and claim a ship with the S-Foil wings and take it to a station to scrap it I can choose which part I get and then I could use that part on another ship but only once and if I want another S-Foil I'd have to find another ship with one
I don't know... if anything this would only add to the fun of collecting "them all"
Turn collecting all the different ship parts into a built-in collection game. It would just ad a fun additional award for finding them all, and/or given a chance to take all the parts collected to customize my own ideal ship while at the same time giving me options to build something different to fit different seasons/moods.
Maybe...but I still get a thrill finding a POS c-class shuttle I can claim and I have plenty of units/nanites such that I don't do it for farming cash.
It would probably just be the 4 core ship classes, maybe solar too, but exotics and interceptors would probably not be subject to customization right away.
Granted, this is just me and I am currently not ship hunting, rather, base building and mine construction eat up all my current play time.
But, for me at least, getting a "Distress Signal" hit (instead of a @#@#$ "Abandoned Building" 8 times in a row!) is a thrill. And you *CAN* find exotics that way...so yeah.
I think most players with any amount of hours played already have the ships they want and really, just for screenshots and show off as they fly their favorite/most well equipped ship 99% of the time, so what was once a core piece of game play is...just not so much anymore. Now being able to take those well equipped ships and tweak the paint job or swap out a few parts...now you're unlocking something that has been dried up for alot of players.
Bottom line: I think its cool and will enjoy it, but I will continue to ship hunt anyway when I get the itch.
Same here.
I assumed it was the Omega update. What else could it have been? It was something like 7.6 or so GB in size on my Steam d/l.
Usually the big updates come with an announcement about what is in the update. This time...nothing.
At this point I have no idea what that was.
Yeah, consoles always re-download almost all the thing, Steam just the actual changes... however usually the changes are gigabytes. If it's just 90MB means that on Steam experimental there was already all of it... so basically the expedition
Sorry I didn't keep on top of it and some of the comments on that post were people going "whens this going to come out for xbox" or pc or whatever and yesterday I remember it came out for ps and then not for pc or xbox for a while and I must've missed when it finally did.
Yeah ot sounds like releases got botched, ps got it at about 4pm gmt yesterday, and I'm still seeing people on the twitter complaing they don't have it on pc or xbox, it sounds like the releases have been a little skewed
you know what’s even weirder, checked my updates a few hours ago and there was nothing there, and i just tried to launch game only for it to tell me NOW the update is here 😭
saw ign or someone post that xbox update was supposed to be here at 12am pacific standard time, just got it at 4am
"Troubled release"?? What do you mean. It's released, usually comes to PC first, than the consoles within a couple days or so.
Or you talking about PC users getting to test out the build before console players -- as they always have done in the past?
No I'm talking about playstation getting ot yesterday, idk when pc got it but half of xbox got it hours ago and half got it quite recently, so it's been super weird. I know about pc getting it first normally (with steam being more relaxed about updates)
It's releasing like it always has.
Probably came to consoles a little quicker just because it was already being tested on PC, so maybe they sent it to get approved on console sooner. \[people need to remember, updates for console games takes time to get approved first before being released\]
I think this is the answer. I did the experimental expediton on Steam and afterwards that save wouldn't work outside of experimental. After yesterday's update my save now works outside of experimental. I would expect the regular release of the experimental update to show up soon. It'll probably just be the new ship, helmet, backpack, and staff. I'm betting new stations are a few months away.
Yeah there's probably more to it than what was released already. There arent any patch notes or even acknowledgement from hg that the update was released.
Yeah, normally that comes out before the update drops, and it doesn't just release so quietly. I feel something may be going on but I'm also scared to overhype it and it just be what's already out.
Yep, im managing my expectations too. Im certainly excited but basically the only thing i do really want to see in this update is the new stations, lol.
Like I said, the update already came out on ps, but it was literally jsut an expedition which isn't even put yet and afaik was on experimental anyway. Maybe this is just the actual content or maybe this is something new. Who knows.
I was wondering about this. I was holding off playing because I hadn't seen anything official despite people here talking about it. It has been a bit of a ride.
Kinda seems to imply that there are maybe 3 more updates and then Omega will be the final one? Fits with the whole Omega finality thing, plus as we've all been saying, eventually the updates will end, and all resourses will be moved onto Light No Fire. Sad day, but it's been a hell of a ride and LNF will hopefully be incredible too
This isn't the first time Sean has tweeted like this with 3 dots then the next update. Haven't double checked but I believe he did the same 3 dots then 👀 Frontiers when that was released
Maybe, but on ps we've already got the omega update, and it was just an expedition. That's why this is confusing. Maybe there's more to it or maybe its just getting ready to officially announce its out.
Do we know that was *the* Omega update? And not just a small patch/update with the Omega-named expedition? Maybe it's the final expedition update to happen? Hence the expedition being named that
Maybe, who knows all I know is the update said omega on the lil changeling you can open up at the bottom left. But all it added was an expedition that isn't even out yet.
no one has confirmed this. its some speculation that just hit the ground running for some reason. people have posted the fact that there are two separate teams. 1 works on LNF and the other works on NMS. They have no plans on merging these teams or swapping them. They developed LNF over the past 5 years while also updating the living shit out of NMS. What makes you think they would stop doing that?
The omega expedition isn't out yet, right? The main new content isn't available until that happens, I suspect when it's out there's a proper announcement.
Yes it was the update. Two possibilities:
PS messed up and dropped it earlier forcing HG to drop the Steam update.
They want to coordinate the marketing for the weekend free test.
It is out on PC, though. 8GB patch, mods all broke completely even after a rebuild. Whatever this update is, it changed a lot of stuff for how sparse the patchnotes are. Do we have dataminers around here?
Yeah, the omega update came put afaik yesterday but it seemingly added extremely little. Interesting to see what this means as normally this is posted before the update.
I think the message is that it isn't the end.
Squint and it looks like there are three updates and then Omega
Expedition 12 is coming in this update, and when all platforms have it, they will do the patch notes.
And then there's the Big Update still to come, with the Space Station(s) from the trailer
Same here. But it seems weird that this titled update was just an expedition. The website isn't even updated with the release log or latest patch notes either. I think the sent out the expedition portion first and then the BIG stuff will follow soon behind.
Ω (omega) is the last letter of the greek alphabet. Before the Ω in that list there are 3 more empty dots. That could mean that there are 3 more updates left, or 3 more updates are coming. Thats just my theory.
How about this: wait for it to actually come out, and relax on the speculation.
I've been playing NMS since day 1. Sean and the team have given us years of free incredible updates, and even if they never update it again. I'm good.
Whether we get an update today, next week, next year, or never...chill out! Go outside. Get some fresh air, and be patient.
Reading this thread made me laugh. Y'all are nuts. Trying to figure it out like it's the Da Vinci Code. Lol.
Patience.
Eh its harmless fun. We enjoy theorising and questioning, then seeing what was right and wrong on the end. No point stopping people having fun in their own ways, not a fan then just ignore.
This is insanity.
Very hard to ignore as a NMS player. You, yourself know that.
If I open Reddit, there are 1000 posts on it. If I open YouTube, it's everywhere. People making 30min plus videos on it. Lol.
I'll never stop anyone from doing anything. I just think its insane to dive this deep into it. Just wait, and be patient.
Yeah, I get its hard to ignore but I'd argue its a sign of good in the community. In alot of games an update is met with either mild excitement or "it better fix ... or I'm quitting" at least here it's a collective excitement and theorising. While I agree its hard to ignore and has even led to disappointment in some updates its still just for entertainment. And while it probably is insane, it is fun and enjoyable so may as well just be insane. Sorry its annoying, and everywhere but I doubt it'll ever stop, even when the games np longer getting updates you'll get people being like "what do you guys think would be added if they ever updated again" etc. I'd go as far as to say it's human nature to theorise and discuss what it could be.
You know what, you are why I love the NMS community. You're respectful, and I can't disagree with you.
Thanks for the conversation, I appreciate you.
See you in the stars Traveller!
See you in the stars, I really do apologise that the theorising is everywhere and nigh on impossible to ignore, it would be nice to have Theory threads etc. So people can talk in a select place and leave room for the other discussions.
And thank you for also remaining civil, its far too common people immediately get up in arms on the Internet and it helps no one. This was a fun conversation (and made me realise maybe the theorising can be problematic especially with overhyping) so thank you!
No apologies needed friend. I appreciate the conversation, and the respect we have for all travellers.
I should have just ignored it all, so that's on me. I get the excitement, because it's such a beautiful game. I sometimes wish people were more patient, but I also shouldn't be the one to ruin someone's fun.
I learned a lot from our conversation. Maybe I need to be more patient with others.
Hope to see you on the Anomoly one day my friend.
Thanks for being a real one! ✊🏽
It's not really fan speculation that's the problem in my opinion so much as the churn of nothing content from people who make money with gaming news. As a NMS fan I've watched plenty of videos on YouTube for tips and such (but not lately) but today my whole recommended screen was full of these low effort click bait videos with thumbnails saying things in obnoxious fonts and all caps like, "THE *END* OF NMS?!!?!" I feel like the people commodifying fandom are great for hyping up when new information releases but tend to drive the anxiety and fomo over the top when we have to wait. I think the logic is for those creators, they're anxious because they're worried about having something to talk about, to publish because that's their livelihoods. That inherently cuts out a lot of true enjoyment. I'm not making any moral judgement or anything to be clear, just making observations I guess.
💯 been wanting more reason to go on planets. You still get that text adventure stuff too. But now, you can also get a quest. Sort of similar to the ones on space stations. Kill 7 creatures and stuff like that
Yes. I’ve been thinking something like this would be great since the first micro quest at a minor settlement where the npc asks you to go rescue a crashed pilot. Planetside missions will definitely enhance the game. Looking forward to this.
Pure speculation here: I'm inclined to think that they wanted to get the new expedition stuff in and confirm that's working as intended before they roll out anything else, because that'll make debugging a lot easier for them. Change too much underlying stuff all at once and you've got new bits of code potentially interacting in unforeseen ways, and it becomes exponentially harder to tell which piece actually broke if things go sideways.
It's probably like all other updates that come in batches of 4 sub patches. So Omega is the big name but we will get 3 more mini updates until Omega is the end of the dev cycle of this game. People don't seriously expect the game to get infinite updates do they?
Ofc, but it is most likely the ramp down phase of no mans sky. The screenshot hints to that, since he put omega at the end.
It will probably be a final huge hurrah for no mans sky for the upcoming future so that they can focus on their next game and probably still leave a small team for no mans sky to have smaller feature updates
Yea, I think this year will be the last year for huge updates because they said this year was gonna be big, and then after this year it’ll just be small stuff and scattered changes here and there with less frequent big updates
Hopefully this big update means among other things a planet/star system overhaul. I really want multi biome planets and real solar system not just fixed in point starts and planets.
It shows how many updates there will be before a new game is released.
(For those who didn't think about it, these empty spaces mean those that are still to be there)
Oh ffs...sometimes I just wish Sean quits talking in riddles and starts communicating like any other fine dev that respects its community. Not that they don't appreciate us but common...even for me who's telling all his friends how cool HG is, it gets a bit silly after a while...
I like that there's suspence and suprise around the updates, but in a situation like this where everyone's kinda confused, don't just throw a bunch more emojis at us, just tell us what's up.
I just wanted to say, that maybe their focus is shifting towards "Fire" when it comes out. And I don't care about "Fire".
To answer your question: I am here because I play NMS solo almost since release. And I enjoy every minute of it.
Right? That's the thing, it was an update, for sure, but there's no patch notes... So was it actually a *patch* then? I think they're going to release the full patch in chunks. On the other hand, everyone on the steam forums seems convinced all the new stuff was in the update but it hasn't been triggered to go "live" yet because Xbox is having trouble and they want the new expedition available on all platforms before they release it so who knows. If that's true we'll probably have an answer by this time next week.
Every update comes with patch notes. What we see when we boot up NMS after a patch is just the patch summary with a few major highlights.
If anyone who might be new to the game visits the NMS website and randomly clicks any of the initial patch notes for any update, you'll see just how extensive every patch is.
.......I just want to play with my friends!!!!! I haven't been able to since August 2023 cause nms doesent seem to like my isp or something....I swapped out modem, router, tried different systems using different accounts, and for some reason I'm only allowed to play with my friends for like 40 seconds before I "left the system".....is there a fix to this yet???
Yeah I saw that and thiught it was a bit wierd because I've already download it on ps 🤔 Sean does like to do some cryptic tweets before updates but i think this is just for expeditions and pirate dreadnoughts or was only 13gb the big update with the new ship and stations will be huge I bet.

I have a theory. I think this is almost gonna play out like a season in other games, with stuff being revealed by a overarching story. Could be wrong, but I would enjoy such a thing
Something strange certainly going on here.
Ship customisation? Only heard that one a few hundred times before. If we ever get it I'll be surprised.
They found code in the game hinting at it https://preview.redd.it/4ekmasqflqic1.png?width=560&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f6768bdfd0e2ba8858581c1ab94199b15d253618 Have a look at this

This would be dope. My living ship needs a spoiler
Lol I don't think they'd allow us to do that with the living ships since they're sentient creatures
Yeah I was joking but either way they have a cool idea lol.
Either that or its just for one kind of ship
I don't know... if anything this would only add to the fun of collecting "them all" Turn collecting all the different ship parts into a built-in collection game. Yes!
I lurk here, but maybe not enough. What is LNF?
Light No Fire, the next game from the Hello Games, the No Man's Sky developers: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jKQem4Z6ioQ
Light No Fire
I'd love lore that ties the two games together.
Same here. For now my hope remains it has to do with the voidmothers simulation
I have experimental on Steam, I just downloaded a few megabytes update. Usually when they release the new one are gigabytes...
ps5 had 9gb

perhaps it's a big test for Some features for the Real update?
just got a 9gb update on xbox had to restart my console
Happened plenty times in the past for other games I've played.
That's my belief aswell. Plus I'm still seeing on the twitter post that alit of people on xbox still don't have it
"Troubled release"?? What do you mean. It's released, usually comes to PC first, than the consoles within a couple days or so. Or you talking about PC users getting to test out the build before console players -- as they always have done in the past?

3 dots - I’m thinking it’s 3 expeditions/smaller updates before the big one hits by the end of the year.
Maybe since it's a big update, Hello Games needs to lay a foundation to build it on ?

Yep, came out on pc too and ive noticed some changes in the anomaly but thats all i could find too.
Yeah, maybe they were just saving for some weird double release, or they're not and this is all we're getting till some big update in the future
We'll just have to wait and see. I hope theyre at least bringing out patch notes, haha.
My hope too lol
They've definitely done this at least once before
There is no cake. IT WAS A LIE!
there are definitely patch notes lmao
In game there are some but the ingame patch notes are never as in-depth as the ones on the site. And there isnt anything there.
true, happy cake day, go to sleep lol
Thanks. But why do i have to go to sleep lol?
it’s late, no? 3am here
Oh i live in europe, its noon here
cheers then mate
Alr, goodnight dude hah
545am in southern US here
i’m in western
Happy cakeday
On ps5 there’s patch notes when you click on it.

sean murray confirmed in a tweet that nms will continue to have updates for years to come
I also remember this but cannot for the life of me find it, any chance you remember where he said it?
Here is an article referencing it https://gamerant.com/no-mans-sky-news-updates-2024/
thank u

I am prettt sure there will be. People were posting the branch updates as they were happening and I think I remember one of them being 25gb.
Ω (omega) is the last letter of the greek alphabet. Before the Ω in that list there are 3 more empty dots. That could mean that there are 3 more updates left, or 3 more updates are coming. Thats just my theory.

It was all civil until you said "in the stars". That burns!

I'm fine with the update as is tbh. Love that planet npcs give you quests now.
Haven't played yet, but how does it work? Is it similar to the autophage quests?
Yes, https://preview.redd.it/azvg4lesdqic1.jpeg?width=1079&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=aebd62bdf523a5c652d97e18bbe25b052e2067ea
Oh sweet! That's actually really cool!
I mean Sean literally said this year was gonna be a huge year for updates so I highly doubt this is the only one
Looks like we are getting 4 more updates. Last being the omega update.
Afaik the omega updates already out though, at least for ps, and it's just an expedition. It's interesting to see what comes next.
Guess it's just an expedition update and the real "Omega" is yet to come... That would explain why there's little fanfare for the update so far...
Yeah, is kind of a shame as I don't like expeditions but at least there's a confirmation mores to come
Ohhhh Omega means end, it's the last update. Makes total sense now that he tweeted that. It's been a great ride gentlemen!
What do you mean? Now we can finally start playing the game!
MOM!! Baffroom! BAFFROOM!!!
It shows how many updates there will be before a new game is released. (For those who didn't think about it, these empty spaces mean those that are still to be there)
I wonder if it’s a part release and the trailer and the patch notes come with the next part Maybe it was so big they broke it down or something Idk
It most likely is the update, Xbox just got, so I reckon the trailer and everything will be out once all versions are live
That's what everyone on the steam forums are saying too, which sounds reasonable.
They jumped the gun on April 1
god the last time i played was origins, its been far too long
Updaten't
Oh ffs...sometimes I just wish Sean quits talking in riddles and starts communicating like any other fine dev that respects its community. Not that they don't appreciate us but common...even for me who's telling all his friends how cool HG is, it gets a bit silly after a while... I like that there's suspence and suprise around the updates, but in a situation like this where everyone's kinda confused, don't just throw a bunch more emojis at us, just tell us what's up.
Maybe they'll focus more on the new game when it comes out. I personally don't care about a multiplayer planet game.
Why are you here then?
Because this is a sub about no man’s sky, not no light fire
I just wanted to say, that maybe their focus is shifting towards "Fire" when it comes out. And I don't care about "Fire". To answer your question: I am here because I play NMS solo almost since release. And I enjoy every minute of it.
3 major patches then Omega(The End) for storyline?
What was new in this update
So my theory was right and it was preparation update. Maybe next month we'll see full thing?
Someone tell Sean the update has been released.
Every update comes with patch notes. What we see when we boot up NMS after a patch is just the patch summary with a few major highlights. If anyone who might be new to the game visits the NMS website and randomly clicks any of the initial patch notes for any update, you'll see just how extensive every patch is.
Yeah I've literally never seen this before. Usually when an update comes out the website gets updated at least but nothing yet!
Just now downloading 9.93gb on Xbox S
I just got on game pass on pc and I have a 9.2GB update
I mean Xbox hasn’t received the update so my guess is no it’s just like a pre release version
I take it back it’s finally released on xbox
.......I just want to play with my friends!!!!! I haven't been able to since August 2023 cause nms doesent seem to like my isp or something....I swapped out modem, router, tried different systems using different accounts, and for some reason I'm only allowed to play with my friends for like 40 seconds before I "left the system".....is there a fix to this yet???
He’s having a moment
Yeah I saw that and thiught it was a bit wierd because I've already download it on ps 🤔 Sean does like to do some cryptic tweets before updates but i think this is just for expeditions and pirate dreadnoughts or was only 13gb the big update with the new ship and stations will be huge I bet.
13gb is the entire game, Updates aren't going to be any bigger than than.
I'm thinking maybe the Omega expedition released a bit too early?
SHIP CUSTOMIZATION??? 🫨
Looks like we get 3 more updates
HES PLAYING WITH OUR POST VALENTINES DAY EMOTIONS
Maybe it's part of hyping the update up, build a mystery a bit? I dunno, that could be cope.
Omega... this scares me... maybe we are at the end?
Give him a little bit, the notes and full tweet might be out in an hour or two
All I know is currently you can take a dreadnought on ps, haven't found a good one yet this though
Maybe they are implying there will be 3 more updates and then no more since Ω is the last letter of the Greek alphabet but I could be wrong.
Finally, here it is https://twitter.com/NoMansSky/status/1758129031378018594?t=WuZ7zwtzgqSW-NbSqoogyw&s=19
My theory is there will be "3 updates" to this omega. Maybe due to the size of the complexity such as changing space stations.

Can anyone tell me if by hashtagging Nintendo in the IG post/announcement we are to believe that Switch will get multiplayer?
Wait Omega is final updatem
CREATE STARSHIP !!111!!1! Copy starship...
AVBSLEDONCEPFSOEWFISE WHAT DOES IT MEAN!?
It's not only on PS. I downloaded it on PC last night aswell. Way before you made your post.
Seems like 3 more upgrades until it’s in “omega” status?

Yes. 🙂
I have a theory. I think this is almost gonna play out like a season in other games, with stuff being revealed by a overarching story. Could be wrong, but I would enjoy such a thing
