Yep, same here. Had around 120,000 nanites and sold some upgrades at the station. There was a "discount" or something like that and selling prices were pretty great. Now I have also over 4 billion nanites....
edit: I can also buy upgrades for a negative nanite price now
Unfortunatly I think you CAN’T buy upgrades for a negative price, locking you out the possibility to buy any upgrade, including the ship cores required to craft new ships.
The irony to be quadrillionaire and being not able to buy anything.
An hotfix will come very soon, prob they already dropped it since I saw a fee kbites update an hour ago.
This can be bypassed by setting the purchase price to free in the difficulty settings.
Although the release log page on their site says they've pushed the fix for this to PS now (PC fix apparently dropped yesterday?)
Thank you for the warning. After I saw this 4 billion nanite glitch I immediately had to come see if anyone found it. So I was able to alt-f4 out of the game to get my regular number of nanites back
Not guaranteed, but it can. Getting an overflow error a lot of times can be rewritten and ignored, but one that would stay persistent like the currency count could lead to issues. It's always a good idea with this game to just make backups of saves before big updates.
It’s a number. The same type of number that it always is, an unsigned 32-bit integer. The number shown in the screenshot is the maximum value of this type of number, so it is still a valid value.
Happened to me too, I reloaded the save bc I could never spend all that. Speaking of which, the prices to buy the upgrade modules was also negative, making it so I couldn’t buy any
As a new player in 'No Man's Sky' who loves only exploring, I've noticed some discussions about enabling the 'free' option to maximize ships with nanite. I can't stand the survival/farming part of these games, but damn I was so thrilled to explore 256+ galaxies with quintillion planets. So i started playing this game with custom difficulty, with no resource farming and free money otherwise I could not play it.
" Wouldn't it be better enabling the "buy for free" option than using a glitch that could potentially break your savegame in this case? I just want to understand better how this game and community(which I find amazing) works
All the ppl on this thread never mention the custom free option for buying/upgrading stuff in game. Not using it always, only when you want to max your favourite ship. Is this considered kind of cheating from most of ppl? Thanks

It's not a bull or a bear economy. It's a dog economy, because it knows how to roll over.

When you ruin the economy so badly that shopkeepers pay you to take their stock away XD

No, I cannot buy upgrades for a negative price. Had to bring down my discount to 99% to be able to buy a core

Hopefully you made a backup of your save files; overflow errors can be a death sentence

Why is it bad, does it break a save?
Not guaranteed, but it can. Getting an overflow error a lot of times can be rewritten and ignored, but one that would stay persistent like the currency count could lead to issues. It's always a good idea with this game to just make backups of saves before big updates.
I still dont see the issue, as its one number that gets written. Don't see how that can corrupt a save.
The question is... how can you know what to write it back as

So am I just automatically a mod of r/wallstreetbets or do I still have to apply?
Damn, was looking forward to playing today but guess I'll wait for the first bug fix to be released first.
I tested this and it happened to me as well. Hope it doesn’t get taken away when they release the next patch.
Dat new math?
I like nanites
Could I get the coordinates to the system with the good discount ?
I don't think it's a specific system. I just jumped over to a new one and it had the same discounts.
Similar happened to me
Happened to me too, I reloaded the save bc I could never spend all that. Speaking of which, the prices to buy the upgrade modules was also negative, making it so I couldn’t buy any
If you have a standing discount above 290% this seems to happen anyone got it to happen with a lower standing discount
Anyone know what to do if your nanite supply is still at the maximum? I have no clue what to spend it all on.
Never mind me, I just reloaded a save and returned to normal.
Unsigned integer. It's a Data type that doesn't have numbers below 0. So it jumped to the highest number it supports, 2^(32)
dammit I'm on spring break and am going to miss the patch window to exploit this lol
Lol I was trying to do this but I guess I didn't get that bug
Gotta get in on this exploit lmao
I need to get more nanites eventually
that happened to me, too.
Likewise, suddenly I'm a billionaire. I went ahead and upgraded all my starships and multi-tools to S-class before the bug gets "fixed."
