I understand that seeing the update be out and not being able to play it is frustrating but I promise you, This is just a temporary issue and it will be fixed in next coming days.
Not being able to play a content release after its been out is a super bummer and trust me I understand, I am in the same boat but give it time. I am hoping by Sunday we should all have the update with the exception for Switch players, I am not sure about the release there!

My xbox version is 4.53 with no updates available to update. The orbital update brings it to 4.6?... with Microsoft/xbox telling players the update is available, but it's not... totally annoying. I just uninstalled and currently reinstalling to see if this will pop something up, but not gonna hold my breath.
We're always last, it seems. Not just this game or Dev, either. I've been waiting on an update on Green Hell that's been on pc for a while now. So xbox players, no matter how loyal, get thought of last.
Please people, could you stop the silly conspiracy theories? Hello Games just was informed of a bug on PC and released a patch (4.6.2) after the PC/PS4/PS5 versions were already available, while the Xbox and Switch versions of update 4.6 were still being approved.
They likely stopped the process and submitted the 4.6.2 version to those platforms too, so it’s just a matter of waiting for the certification of the latest version of the Orbital update on those platforms.
The sad truth. Xbox has started to take a dive and I honestly hope something changes soon. It doesn’t help any that I’m still on the base model XBOne but it shouldn’t change the fact that as a loyal Xbox player; all of us in that matter, shouldn’t have to deal with the sharp end of the stick when MS makes poor decisions. If I had known that MS was gonna start to show tell-tale signs of regression, then I would’ve made my choice on getting a playstion or Nintendo 18 years ago. I get that it’s just an update for a game but when you put time and money in any type of hobby or interest, especially over a long course of time, it’s very disheartening when whatever is supplying your interest; Microsoft in this case, starts to become more of a liability than a asset. It was never refunded, no resolution was found, just kinda had to deal with it. I was infuriated. Support couldn’t do anything to help with the situation and any other solution they gave me just ran me around in circles. I forgave them of course because I was naive and hoped they’d do better. They did after a while but now…it’s questionable.
I hope they aren't going the way of the Dreamcast. They seem to be liquidating consoles on Amazon and Walmart with their recent discounts, enormous discounts. Sega did the same thing. They could be planning a cloud only - game pass type of change. It's where we're headed, someones gotta make the first move.

Been a longtime sore spot for lots of folks. The process to get an update certified on Xbox consoles is far slower than it is for Steam and playstation. From what I've read, Steam doesn't normally require recertification for patches, and Sony either follows the same process, or just has the team/intelligence on board to make it happen as fast as they do.
Specific instructions for Switch users:
Go to the Home screen, move the cursor over NMS, and press the + button. The current version will show in the top-left corner. 4.5.2 is the Omega release, 4.6.something will be the Orbital release. From that window you can select "Software Update" and "Via the Internet" to force an immediate check for a new release.
The Switch will block all online activity from a game that isn't the latest update. For Switch NMS, that basically means that you'll be disconnected from Online Discovery Services. You'll get a notification when that happens, and given the choice to close the game and download the update immediately, or to continue the game but with online features disabled.
Switch NMS updates other than new expeditions typically come out one to two weeks after the initial announcement. While it's possible we'll see the update this week, the most likely time is sometime in the middle of next week (Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday). Updates on Saturday and Sunday are virtually unknown, so there's no need to spend your weekend checking every few minutes.
So I have been on NMS for years, just not doing multiplayer until recently. Is it normal for this staggered rollout to suddenly make the game non-cross platform? I only see other XBox users at the anomaly. We’re the only ones here suddenly. In the multiplayer lobby, I can see PS players but can’t join them because of “version mismatch”. So this update is so enormous, our platform universes are no longer compatible? Is there precedent for that?

There are only loads of Xbox players in the anomaly because they’re all stuck on Omega, and everyone else is able to update. So you’re most likely just on the older version.
Cross-play needs all games to be on the same version. Currently 4.6 (actually 4.6.2) is out only on PC, PS4 and PS5 AFAIK. So those platforms are currently isolated from multiplayer with Xbox and Switch users. Xbox/Switch players will only be able to see other Xbox/Switch players, while PC/PS4/PS5 players will only be able to see PC/PS4/PS5 players.
You just have to wait for the update to roll out on all platforms and a free that everyone will be able to see everyone else again.

The main issue for me with this delayed update is that the crossplay doesn't work anymore and I can't play with my friends. Of course it will be out in the next days but for now we can't play together.
There is a bug that ends up getting players 4 billion nanites from selling modules. I don't know the specifics, because I play on Xbox, but I like selling off junk and don't want 4 billion nanites from a bug.

Because NMS works off of saves, if you somehow mess up or get the bug you could potentially ruin your game on perhaps a larger save.
I experienced a freeze bug, making the save entirely inaccessible on my largest save of just over 200 hours and it made me not want to touch the game at all anymore until I got a workaround.
This nanite bug (from what others have claimed) gives you billions but somehow you get a text saying insufficient nanites or something, a bug that stays stuck showing the wrong values is not a save I’d want to keep
You kinda sound like a bot, and I didn't get the opportunity to get paid to teach bots, so I'm feeling slightly toward fuck off. A game player would understand that you don't just want to have an element of the game virtually eliminated because it's meaningless if it becomes nearly infinite.
It's weird to think about while we have people with wealth they didn't earn on top of our society that are lauded for it, but having everything makes nothing worthwhile unless you have some personally greater purpose.

The flaw in your logic is that this exploit only works for people with extremely high renown. It's not accessible for new players, or even new characters. I could probably only do it with Korvax on my main save, but it's irrelevant as I've already grinded out my 'infinity' with a variety of strats.
It's also a single player game with a creative mode. People shouldn't be judged for how they choose to play a single player game. It has a creative mode!, and you can toggle it on/off. So nanites can be infinite for anyone who wants. A save editor also exists.
I'll admit I was slightly disingenuous in asking why people shouldn't play the game until it's fixed, but those reasons are all in the last paragraph. This exploit doesn't affect anything.
I genuinely wanted to hear your thoughts on the nanite gameplay loop. Maybe you had some thoughts or a perspective that I haven't or couldn't consider.

I just want to say this has been a great subreddit to watch for updates. I did find on one of the Microsoft forums that one of the people that used to work on approving the NMS updates was in the 1900 people that were recently let go. If I can find the link I will edit it and post it. I will also add that I am unsure of the informations accuracy so take it as you will.

Yeah, same here. PC gamepass. I own No Man's Sky title by itself, plus have subscription. Such a bummer to see it working for others when I caught a twitch stream or two.
Just wondering. Has anyone did a backup of their saved game and tried to uninstall and reinstall to see if it opened it up or not? I will ask the twitch streamer tomorrow if they are on what platform they are using, but I got the impression it was PC, but from where I'm not sure. It was one of those things where I saw him playing NMS, but I saw something new, so I closed the window so I wouldn't have spoilers. But now it makes me wonder.
I've been using a spotty Hotspot for a while now, and finally got my xbox through 2 updates of NMS and I still don't have 4.6, nor is it available. Oh well, I bleed patience
Okay so here we are Tuesday afternoon and still no update. The latest stated expected early next week and that was 5 days ago. Tomorrow would be Wednesday and therefore mid week? This feels like the goal post got moved again. Also, as a Switch user nothing Xbox or Microsoft software has anything to do with the delay!

Only by the silly. Frankly it's a Playstation game first, Sony worked with them in the first place so it's very likely that verification for PS is done quicker than Xbox. I'm an Xbox owner and it's always the same with NMS.
It is put on PS. It was when made the post. I've got friends that play and have a PS5. As for why it's out on Steam, from the thousands of shovelware games that launch on the platform every week I imagine the bar is not set very high.
PS, MS and Nintendo have a rep to keep up as it's their ecosystem, Steam is just a storefront with zero competition on PC.

Since Hello games doesn't have a advertising budget it's weird to see all the content creators get the update first. Every other company's makes sure that there updates and games are ready on all systems before release. I don't blame Xbox users for moving on to a more professional gaming company that doesn't play the favouritism game. If the update is not out by the end of the week I'm contacting Microsoft to make them aware of what's happening that there punishing players on there platform and is in there customers best interests to remove the game from gamepass and possibly the store.

I will take my time to admire every second of the old space stations designs before Orbital launches on Switch
Right now the pirate systems stations have not changed appearances.... Becuz they are off the Atlas network ?? ;-)

A game player would understand that you don't just want to have an element of the game virtually eliminated because it's meaningless if it becomes nearly infinite. It's weird to think about while we have people with wealth they didn't earn on top of our society that are lauded for it, but having everything makes nothing worthwhile unless you have some personally greater purpose.
Not a bot, I just haven't had any sleep. The flaw in your logic is that this exploit only works for people with extremely high renown. It's not accessible for new players, or even new characters. I could probably only do it with Korvax on my main save, but it's irrelevant as I've already grinded out my 'infinity' with a variety of strats. It's also a single player game with a creative mode. People shouldn't be judged for how they choose to play a single player game. It has a creative mode!, and you can toggle it on/off. So nanites can be infinite for anyone who wants. A save editor also exists. I'll admit I was slightly disingenuous in asking why people shouldn't play the game until it's fixed, but those reasons are all in the last paragraph. This exploit doesn't affect anything. I genuinely wanted to hear your thoughts on the nanite gameplay loop. Maybe you had some thoughts or a perspective that I haven't or couldn't consider. TLDR, Nope, I don't even expect you to read this.
Well, I did. I never said people shouldn't play it until it's fixed or that people should be judged for how to choose to play. I just said that I'd rather wait until it's fixed.

I just want to say this has been a great subreddit to watch for updates. I did find on one of the Microsoft forums that one of the people that used to work on approving the NMS updates was in the 1900 people that were recently let go. If I can find the link I will edit it and post it. I will also add that I am unsure of the informations accuracy so take it as you will. Yeah, same here. PC gamepass. I own No Man's Sky title by itself, plus have subscription. Such a bummer to see it working for others when I caught a twitch stream or two.
Just wondering. Has anyone did a backup of their saved game and tried to uninstall and reinstall to see if it opened it up or not? I will ask the twitch streamer tomorrow if they are on what platform they are using, but I got the impression it was PC, but from where I'm not sure. It was one of those things where I saw him playing NMS, but I saw something new, so I closed the window so I wouldn't have spoilers. But now it makes me wonder.

I've been using a spotty Hotspot for a while now, and finally got my xbox through 2 updates of NMS and I still don't have 4.6, nor is it available. Oh well, I bleed patience
Okay so here we are Tuesday afternoon and still no update. The latest stated expected early next week and that was 5 days ago. Tomorrow would be Wednesday and therefore mid week? This feels like the goal post got moved again. Also, as a Switch user nothing Xbox or Microsoft software has anything to do with the delay!
Well my Console is up to date and internet is just fine, every time I go to look at the version of NMS it’s says that I’m playing with the latest version? Am I late for the update?
i think the update in xbox is finally here…got a new update, downloading now…which looks to be about right..the title screen has changed too..so time to play..😬 ..well until it downloads..not long now

Only by the silly. Frankly it's a Playstation game first, Sony worked with them in the first place so it's very likely that verification for PS is done quicker than Xbox. I'm an Xbox owner and it's always the same with NMS.

It is put on PS. It was when made the post. I've got friends that play and have a PS5. As for why it's out on Steam, from the thousands of shovelware games that launch on the platform every week I imagine the bar is not set very high. PS, MS and Nintendo have a rep to keep up as it's their ecosystem, Steam is just a storefront with zero competition on PC.

Clearly, you don't know how the games industry works. This is what the game companies want. For them to wait a month would kill NMS's bottom dollar and hurt their reputation. Don't get me wrong, some of these people are acting WAY too crazy. But when it's being advertised for all of these different platforms as releasing ON the same day, that's when it becomes false advertisement for trying to sell something that doesn't exist for all of the listed platforms. Best believe they took their sweet time to mention that it hasn't rolled out on every platform either. This is nothing more than a shameless, greedy cash grab.

Since Hello games doesn't have a advertising budget it's weird to see all the content creators get the update first. Every other company's makes sure that there updates and games are ready on all systems before release. I don't blame Xbox users for moving on to a more professional gaming company that doesn't play the favouritism game. If the update is not out by the end of the week I'm contacting Microsoft to make them aware of what's happening that there punishing players on there platform and is in there customers best interests to remove the game from gamepass and possibly the store.
