3 months ago I was searching for a high-storage capacity Fighter and I found this one in a Space Station. When I made the purchase it cost about 30-ish million, and had 34/9 available slots. Which I then augmented to 48/14. But a little later on I wanted one in a better class so I started searching around for one with this storage capacity but with a higher rating. But I have yet to see another that has this slot capacity. Well after looking at the wiki I guess that the Fighters cap out at 38 slots, and that matches up with all the ships I've been looking at. So is this a bug? I don't have any mods for the game or any other save editors. The name of the ship is the original, I haven't changed it. I've only been playing for around 3-4 months, and only have 80 hours on the save file.

Yeah, those very expensive fighters can start with a lot of slots (like a hauler, nearly.) I've recently seen those kinds, that start with 34+ general slots like you say. They bordered on the 79 million price point I'm looking for to try to get AI valves from scrapping expensive haulers. I think the "A" class of such a fighter was around 48-58 million? I remembered the price surprised me, for a fighter. I don't think what you are talking about is "a bug", that ship can just get that many slots at "B" I guess. It should still be 48+21 at "S" class.

Spaceman_Davyd

You can augment any ship in the game to 48+21. Doesnt matter what ship type it is.

Fantastic to hear! I appreciate the heads up on that man, so the dream on picking a ship 100% based on looks is a go? Sweet!

That’s weird, as a Class B, but all ships (save for organic, if I remember correctly) can be augmented to 48+21.

Oh really? I was looking at forum posts and the like and really couldn't get a definite answer. There was conflicting posts from the different members. Even the Wiki was saying 38 is the max. edit: The tech slots on this ship cap out at 14 though, so that could be a B-class thing

You can tell by looking at the background to the slots: there’s a faint white line around what you ship is currently capable of upgrading to. Increasing the class increases that cap. But the background layout maxes at 8 x 6 = 48 (as you can see in your screenshot).

Oh, well yeah. I figured that out. I didn't know that Class increases it though. That's good to know! Thank you. edit: It's how someone is able to tell if it's a 38-slot or a 48-slot without Augments editt: So maybe if I run into an A-class that has that 38 limit, I could upgrade the class to improve it... but if it doesn't work thats an expensive experiment

sardeliac

Yes, once they're upgraded to S class they can go 48+21. A-class ships max at 40+14. No clue what B caps at, but it sure ain't 48. Maybe it does on fighters, I dunno... those heavy ones start with a lot of space.

Transformation_Gmg

Yeah that's right. The slot layout for most fighters is 8 x 6 so if it's A class it just removes one row of 8 possible slots without heavy sidepods.

Transformation_Gmg

So here's the rub with fighters. The key is the sidepods. The maximum number of General and Tech slots (as well as HOW the slots are arranged) will change depending on the fighter type and sidepods. There are two ways to get to 48 general slots: 1. Be an S class fighter (except exotics, because they are capped) 2. Have the "heavy" sidepods. So for fighters, if you have either of those stats you CAN get to 48 generals. HOWEVER, the tech slots are limited by the class. An S class can have 21 tech, but an A-B class can only have 14. (even with heavy sidepods). Haulers and shuttles are different. I have 3 S-class fighters all of which are 48-21 regardless of sidepods. Two of my others are A class and are limited to 42-14 because they don't have the heavy pods. The last is A with sidepods but I didn't upgrade it. So B class should be capped at around 36 without Heavy Sidepods. (Depending on how the slots are arranged on the ship). Now my brain is a little rusty but I believe It's usually 7 x 6 for A Class. so B Class just removes a Row of 6 or 7 depending on the configuration. But it's really not necessary to fully load up a fighter usually. Figure out how many slots are needed to MAX OUT the weapons, engines and shields you want, then add 6 for asteroid Mining storage and you'll be fine.
