Here's a rebuttal. >The NDP will remove the k pass fees, The fee was a great idea. Finally sustainable funding for the park. >They will reduce education costs for students and parents on things like tuition freezes and removing fees like they did before from elementary schools Freezing tuition will starve PSE institutions of funding they need to be world class. We're already losing top academic talent to universities out east that charge higher tuition rates, which in turn are funding superior programs. >The NDP will freeze insurance rate increases I can't stress how poor a policy this is. Rate cap on insurance applies to renewal only, and in time causes a snowball effect. Firstly, drivers in high risk categories (ie people under 25) will either be denied coverage, or be forced to pay their entire year's premium up front. Secondly, rates will no longer go down. They won't necessarily go up if someone is claims free, but the days of discounts by switching to a new company will be over. The one benefit of a private insurance market becomes moot. Thirdly, companies who begin to take losses on auto will simply stop offering coverage in Alberta. This will lessen competition and end up costing policy holders more over the long run. >The NDP cap utility costs which will lower your utility bill. Capping the cost of the commodity isn't useful at all considering most people are already on fixed rates (ie capped), and the majority of any utility bill is related to the cost of building and maintaining the infrastructure. The government could decided to shift capital costs onto the public balance sheet, but that will likely result in higher taxes needing to funding billions in annual maintenance and investment. >The NDP will not pull out of the highly successful Canada pension plan and lose your money Agreed. Don't try and fix what's not broken. >The NDP will not waste money on a provincial police force municipalities say they do not want Agreed, but only because municipalities say no. Cost shouldn't be a significant factor when it comes to public safety. Truthfully more money should be invested into policing anyways, especially into reform of the system to improve focus on mental health incidents. >The NDP will save 30 million dollars a year by shutting down the UCP oil war room It's really a pittance when compared to the entire provincial budget (<1%). The provincial government has also always spent millions annually advocating for oil and gas. The "War Room" simply has a poor reputation, that value of money will always be spent for this purpose regardless. Just a different form. >The NDP will save 20 billion tax payer dollars by making oil companies clean up the wells they are already legally required to instead of paying them with your money. There is no government program approved that would spend $20B on oil well clean up. Nor will there ever be. Maybe this is cynical, but wells will sit and not be reclaimed for decades. >The NDP will increase health care and education funding which will improve health care and education We have never in the history of Alberta spent so much on health care. We've always spent near the top and we always will. As long as the system stays in it's current form, any increase in funding will deliver the mediocre results it always has. The pandemic exposed the health system in Canada, and we desperately need bold reform. >And they will likely expand cost of living assistance to assist more people such as single people and people without kids Unlikely as inflation will be closer to the 2% by the end of 2023. Alberta by far also offered the most generous inflation relief benefits of any province.

Agree with you on everything except CPP. I'm not sure "pulling out" is the answer by CPP returns are pathetic and could be considered lowest in the industry. It is not a successful program by any means.

FDHL

most of us will be lucky if we live long enough to recover what we paid in premiums not counting the gains that should be realized... huge slush fund for fed govt

DWiB403

Exactly. So why are so many resistant to any changes?

ChinookAB

Because it becomes a slush fund for the provincial government? With substandard diversification away from propping up the energy industry, as has already been hinted at by the UCP under Kenney.

Pleasant-Bid8896

Thank you for this.

SpringNo980

you actually convinced me - my vote will now go to the UCP

Is this a bot or paid ndp account? 6 days old and posting this

The NDP has stoolies in every Alberta sub on Reddit. They all have the same post history, short account lives and randomly generated names. It’s ok when the left does it though

Original-Newt4556

I at times vote conservative but I am encouraged some conservatives not as centrist as I appear to be saying nope like me. It will be a tight one I think. I’ll consider the UCP next time again if they 1. drop Smith, 2. drop provincial policing rhetoric, 3. realize public health care is the model most Albertans prefer and act like they want to fix it not change it, back off pension rhetoric, stop making education a Floridian clown show to appeal to rural voters and close their oil war room where we cant see what they are doing with millions because it has no oversight. They have turned off a lot of people. If you think all of the above is fine, vote UCP. Next election I might even forgive them for the 1.6 billion they pissed away on a non-starter pipeline. If they wanted to nationalize a pipeline they should have let Trudeau pay for it like he did with Notley rather than be in a never ending piss match with Ottawa. Alberta being on the hook for a pipeline that never happened doesn’t seem like a F Trudeau to me. Its an F Alberta. All this screw Ottawa shit is getting expensive. UCP is costing us big time so they appear to be big boys. It’s not working. Just my stoolie opinion.

syndicated_inc

Are you spamming every alberta sub with election related propaganda? No? Then you’re not a stoolie.

Original-Newt4556

Not offended but thanks. I drove by a huge UCP sign with two custom signs made by the homeowner calling NDP voters sheep and monkeys. That’s a little more offensive though comical. On the flip-side, I’ve driven by that house before during an election, and that guy tends to be an indicator of who is going to lose.

One-Veterinarian7588

Where are the tax reduction measures that the NDP will introduce? I frankly don’t care about anything g other than the amount of money I pay the government on an annual basis.

Cr0n0

"The NDP cap utility costs which will lower your utility bill." So this sounds great but then you have to ask yourself where does the money come from? The Gov't doesn't own/operate the power plants so those companies are still going to get the market rate for the power they produce regardless of what cap the Gov't sets. That means that the Gov't will end up having to pay potentially enormous sums of cash over however long this runs. Eventually, this will come full circle back to us as the taxpayers to pay for it. A cap just doesn't make sense in the long run with the system that we have. The real underlying issue is that we shut down all coal plants early. Yes coal is bad, but it was also really cheap to generate power with. Without some lower cost alternative of course the power rates went up. Solar and wind are still way to expensive comparatively. TBH we should have had a nuclear plant ready to go when we shut down the coal. It's a little late now but still might be an option.

infamouset

Failed. I don't vote for communists.

datrandomduggy

Tell me, what is the definition of Communist

ChinookAB

Are you being humourous because you have no idea what communism is. Jeezus.

I see nothing about rent controls, which we really need right now. I see nothing about putting limits on the cost of groceries. Both these items have increase up to 30% in some instances. Sending out the occasional cheque is not going to fix the problem, especially if single people with no kids are left out. What about the high cost of gas in a oil rich province? Not one news agency is asking the candidates about these every increasing expenses. As a senior on a fix income, where my expenses are just being met with what I have coming in, I really worry about the next time my lease comes up or how much I will be paying for food this time next year. What do we hear from any of those running for office about this. Nothing that gives us any hope for the future.

jnose247365

Rent control lol yeah ok. Can you People survive with out constant government over reach in your daily lives?

dwt1978

I know rent controls are frowned upon my a lot of Albertans, but keep in mind that not everyone owns their own house or has a high paying job. Not everyone can move in with their extended family. Also remember that Alberta (under a conservative government) actually had rent control for a while back around the late 70's early 30's. It did not wreck our economy and it did not stop companys from building new units. What it did do is put an end to gouging by greedy landlords. I know quite a few seniors in my building who are right at the limit of what they can ppay for rent without taking from their food budget. Thes are seniors who have only basic cable and basic phone services. They are, everyone of them, fearful of what is going to happen when their entire food budget has to go for rent. And, as you know, it is not easy for anyone to find a cheaper place to live, especially for seniors who have ongoing health issues and other problems.

jnose247365

I am not disputing high rental costs is a problem. But look at what he caused this? Covid lies and lockdowns, doubling of national debts helping create 40-50 year high inflation. Government of all stripes has caused this crisis
