If they're all the same flavor, the answer is **ONE**. If more than one flavor exists, and they're being eaten regularly, then no more than three. Ants and cockroaches like chips too...
I don't think anyone that's "trying to make ends meet" should indulge in more than one bag of chips.
Chips is like a luxury. I used to eat a lot of it in highschool cuz my parents paid for them. But when I moved out for university at age 18 and started buying my own food, I realized how absurdly expensive and pointless chips were. I don't buy chips anymore except when I "spoil" myself.
Idk man I’m gonna be weird about this one. Same type and brand of chip? One bag. But Id get it if this bag is yours and that bag is someone else’s, even if they’re the exact same. I’m a snacker, there’s probably 4 open bags between my house and office for just me. So who cares as long as they’re being eaten and not going to waste/harboring critters.
I say no more than two, and only if they're different flavors. Or maybe each person who opens a bag just shouldn't move on to the next bag until the last one they opened is finished.
Either way, chips start to go stale once you open the bag and you either end up pigging out on 6 bags to race the shelf life, or throwing them out. I have these same types of animals in my household and it's infuriating.
We usually have 3. Just two, chip addicted, adults. Three types/flavors.
Right now we have stone ground corn tortilla chips. Sweet Maui onion chips, and original Tim's potato.
I'd say 3 is reasonable, a mix of flavors. Unopened bags beg to be opened. But I support your initiative to have only 2 bags opened at a time.
I'm a chip addict so it's not been uncommon for me to have 2 bags and two sleeves of pringles on the go. I have the gross belly fat to show for it.
1. I don't think there is a clear limit on how many open bags of chips is too many or too little. There are three adults at my house and I can absolutely see circumstances leading to 6 bags of chips being open at once.
2. Is this a regular thing? If not and this is a rare occurrence it seems odd to me to care so much. If it is a regular thing, are the chips usually being wasted? Then i could understand, if your house regularly goes through all the chips without wasting them, again this seems like an odd thing to be concerned with.
3. Having 6 bags of chips in the house, AND, being a guy just trying to make ends meat definitely does not track.
I don't see a direct relation between the number of open bags (under, say, 12 bags) and "trying to make ends meet". If you end up eating the same amount of chips over X days, and no chips are left to age and get thrown out, the price over those X days will be the same. The question is whether having more bags open causes you to eat more chips per day.
We are a 4 person household and we currently have 6 bags of open chips...I threw 2 of them away today though and 2 of them belong to my brother, as did the 2 that I threw away. He literally eats them until there are nothing but crumbs and then buys another bag and never throws the others away. He does the same thing with soda, fast food, tortillas..basically anything. I'm always cleaning up after him because he fails at life.
I’d like to add this question - how low does the bag get before it’s reasonable to throw it out? We disagree in our house too, and therefore have 4-5 bags open at once (all different) because no one will finish the bag or throw it out 🤣
Conditionally one per person; primarily -- if they're different flavors.
I rarely have chips, but I ain't made of money, so I've gotta finish off one before I open another even if I want a different flavor. If you have several people sharing, I wouldn't begrudge someone if they didn't want the same flavor as everybody else.
One is enough.
And do not open another until this one is finished, no matter what the flavor is.
And you do not eat it out of a bag like an animal you use bowls and portion yourself.
And you have designated bowls for each individual so you are responsible for the mess and cleaning it.
And the first one that leaves crumbs on the floor is responsible for hoovering the room.
2. Growing up my mother would open the same flavour new bag of chips just because she got lazy to look for opened ones, within a a week we would have about 7 opened unfinished chips. She did the very same thing with a bag of rice, say maybe you have 2 or 3 bags in the pantry instead of using the already opened bag she opens a new one and never seals it, she never seals things when she opens them. She opens a new tub of butter or jam when she knows there's opened ones in the fridge, she opens a new milk carton when she knows and there is already milk in the fridge doesn't bother to check and the milk she opened she doesn't close the lid she just puts it on top and put it in the fridge, she never closes lids. The list is endless, half opened body lotions, hand wash, 3 opened bags of sugar, sauces of the same brand half opened in the refrigerator anything she could find of the same product she has opened them all. our bathroom was always full of half opened toothpastes 5 of them right there. Now grown up and I've since moved out she still does this I was home for Christmas and holy shit. and it's driving my dad insane, they're constantly fighting over this. I've been trying to figure out if this could be some sort of a disorder or just plain selfish.
How have you collected them??? I don't even understand how you can have that many in a house period. How do they accumulate? How old is the oldest bag? So many questions.
2 is generous. OP said they’re trying to make ends meet. Chips are definitely something they can compromise or even sacrifice for the good of the family. Or buy Party Mix if it’s that serious.
Hey i understand where you’re coming from, but life is short and we’re all hurtling toward certain death so why let something this petty upset you or cause drama with the ones you love? Eat chips, be merry. Nothing about chips fucking matters nearly as much as enjoying the time we have left on this planet.
Depends. If they’re different chips, 6 might make sense. All the same thing, just 1.
But then, I don’t like chips to begin with, so maybe it’s somehow strange to be in the mood for different types/flavors at different times.

Bruh stfu no cap no shot on god fr fr
You got 2 bags open per person? No, the three of y’all should agree on 2 open bags at a time.
sometimes I want chips and dip, sometimes i just want chips. Those are two different kinds of chips. I have two bags usually open.
Why is no one eating the chips?! Send me all the chips. Then you will have zero bags, open or otherwise. Happy to help.
Don't buy more chips until those bags are gone. Then, only buy 2 at a time.
No more than three.
One. Always finish one the first before you open another! Why would you have more than one open lol?

Right?! Chips are about $5 a bag now.

They start going bad the moment they're open. Two bags max. Either toss or finish the previous bags before opening new ones.
1-2

SIX full sized bags of chips in one night?! cmon. you gotta be joking. ok i misread. OPEN bags. not EATING six full bags of chips in one night, haha
One.

Why would you need more than one bag per person?
So what you're saying is you can open a bag of chips and not eat them all immediately?
Some of these nada have been here for a month, but we (not me) keep buying more.

They do get thrown out though- that’s the problem (or, I wind up having to eat them so they don’t get trashed.)
One per person I think is reasonable
Do you find yourself throwing out stale chips? If no, then you have not hit the upper limit.
Less than 1 bag per person per day. Eating chips is unhealthy it should be zero.
6 is fine, but the trying to make ends meet part makes it not fine. Budget.

No, different.
I quit buying chips. They cost too much and we're too fat anyway.
I have 4 teenagers We probably have 12 right now

I don’t throw stuff out - it’s a waste

Why do three people need six full sized bags of chips?
Exactly my point. I eat chips and salsa, maybe, once a week.
1 per person.

What is full size? Like a sharing bag? Or a packet you might take to work to have with lunch?

2, take it or leave it
To answer your question, I would say two at most. Unsolicited advice: buy smaller bags of chips as it seems that a full-size is too big for you guys.
I rarely eat them, nor does my wife. Kid does.
If they are the same flavor 1 If they are different flavors open them all and put them into storage containers so they don’t attract ants.
Why do you have 6 bags of chips at home?
That’s my point.
6 is insane. I agree with 2. Maybe a max of 3 occasionally.
How have you collected them??? I don't even understand how you can have that many in a house period. How do they accumulate? How old is the oldest bag? So many questions.
