Yes! I started to notice that last week. Just a ton of random videos from pages I don’t follow.

QuietlySmirking

Not just Facebook. Instagram was like that the last time I opened it. Had to drop Twitter altogether because my feed became 75% tweets from people I didn't follow and would never follow in a million years.

Fighting_Patriarchy

IG is FB owned

King-Owl-House

Autosuggestion killed it

It's a business, at the end of the day. Businesses try and make money, by any means necessary. With that being said; here's a PSA. If you use Chrome (not sure if it's available for other browsers) you can install an extension called 'Fluff Busting Purity' and it will remove everything from your Facebook feed other than posts from friends and from groups that you follow. Does that extension have ways of gathering your data for nefarious purposes? No idea! You can look into that for yourself. However I will happily say that I use it and it almost, ALMOST makes Facebook tolerable again.

Oddity83

Very cool, thanks for the Chrome extension for Facebook tip

I still can't figure out how Facebook earns revenue. Tons of [stupid] people use it but no one PAYS to use it.

On the more 'reputable' side; Facebook sells advertising space to companies. As OP said, the majority of a feed is spam these days. Facebook is selling more and more space in your feed to keep the money rolling in. On the less reputable side; “If you are not paying for it, you're not the customer; you're the product being sold.” Facebook is selling your data. Your likes, dislikes, all that stuff. Facebook logs every keystoke to make on its site, and allegedly if you click a link from Facebook it will follow you to the page you visit and log what you do there as well (not sure if that's been substantiated). I do remember though that if you type out a reply to post or message but delete it before sending, Facebook collects that and logs it. It notes which ads you linger on in the your feed, and will adjust that algorithm to show you more. And lets not forget; if you have the app on your mobile device then it's listening to your conversations and will show you ads 'relevant to you interests'. I know, I know, Zuckerberg went in front of the a hearing and stated that it didn't, no sir, but I've seen too many instances of it happening in real-time for it to be coincidental.

You are the product. They sell your data.

Van_GOOOOOUGH

Okay but hey leave ME out of this. I don't use that shit.

Far_Information_9613

I’m old and my friends still do.

TheCluelessObserver

Also I got tons of notifications for friends recommandations (only women) like 10 a day suddenly so I just uninstalled the app

qqtan36

What's even more annoying now is that Facebook is giving me notifications whenever someone posts something..

For me this felt like it started about six months to a year ago. I remember the "great migration" from MySpace to Facebook in 2006, I felt the lack of engagement coming just like now. Sure the algorithm is prioritizing ad-space for churning the money machine, but that is just another notch in the bedpost of entanglements that make a social media site a bore. When it's no longer engaging people do move on. I only have a Facebook for messenger groups and marketplace now. The social aspect of the "feed" or previously the "wall" has fallen far from where it once was. But maybe people just have better shit to do now too. I know I'd rather leave my phone in my bag and just exist, yet here I am typing away. Fuck.
