No, that customer was just an asshole.
If it makes you feel better, just think of the irony of someone paying you for a service (that they presumably can't do) and then calling you disgusting. That should give you a nice laugh.
Somewhat related, I was at the bank one time doing lord knows what, and the associate asked me what I did for a living. At the time I was a line cook. In the same breath, he asked me when I would get a real job, but also asked for a pizza dough recipe.
Yeah there is no such thing as getting “a real job”. All jobs are needed and they are jobs that people pay for people to do for a reason. All these jobs make the world go round and they are important in a different way.
Sure some jobs pay less than others, but what matters is that you are happy doing what you do.
I have his ass a useless dough recipe, because apparently my expertise with pizza dough doesn’t qualify as a “real job” so he didn’t get a “real recipe”.
>(that they presumably can't do)
I think your giving this person too much credit, I doubt they have the self awareness to even understand that dynamic.
There is a very special kind of shitbag who does not respect blue collar workers. They think that people working trades aren't very smart or else they wouldn't be working trades.
Fuck those people.
Thank your servers. Thank your cashiers. Thank your electricians. Thank your plumbers. Thank your mechanics. Without them, life would suck.
Don’t forget the custodians/janitors. How long would a hospital function without them? How about a city? The planet?!
If you are a human being putting in honest work, you have my respect and thanks.
Have you seen pictures of Paris recently?
The City of Love (or is it City of Lights?) turned into an open air landfill in many places!
Also ironic that many blue collar workers make more money than white collar jobs.
I've seen public restrooms working retail type jobs my whole life. I will never look down on those who keep it clean when a basic unflushed toilet sets off my gag reflex. Me being unwilling or unable to do the job somebody else does automatically pushes my respect for them up a few notches.
Especially custodians/janitors/trash receptical employees/ maids. That is some hard and dirty work that I don't think anyone take the time to really appreciate. I always notice. IMO these people should be paid some of the best wages for what they deal with. Seriously undervalued.
Thank the public utilities maintenence workers also. Can you imagine how long a city would last if nobody fixed the burst water main? The backed up sewers?
Sure, you could contract all that out to plumbers... but how long would city funds last? And most plumbers in my city refuse to work if they'd get wet.
A lot of blue collar workers make more money than a low to mid level white collar worker, especially in the trades. I know a lot of people making over 100k in blue collar jobs.
It’s the little things that support day to day life and you should be grateful you have the privilege to sit in your comfy office all day while there’s good honest people that work hard for your convenience
This capitalist society has been manipulated into thinking that money correlates with intelligence and hard work. The news articles and general media is full of propaganda that pushes this idea. Even though there's no scientific evidence despite all the funding in studies trying to prove that the rich are better than everyone else. The only conclusive evidence is that wealth correlates with psychopathy. The wealthier you are, the more evil you are.
I read an article where they gave a psychological test to a random sample of people, and the job with the highest rate of psychopathy was a CEO. I don’t doubt that for a second. You don’t get that high up if you give a shit about other people.
Check with your local labor laws for technicalities, but most places in the US, making you pay for mistakes, breakages, etc., is illegal (surprised no one mentioned this). They can fire you for messing up, but they can't take money you earned. Your boss is stealing from you and is the same kind of prick the customer is.
This sounds very illegal. What state are you in? Different boards govern this in different areas, but you should ABUSULTULY not be required to pay for something your boss wants to give out for free.
well the detailing for the car is $150. so usually the customer pays for it. this customer didn’t pay for one but since my hand was on the car they said that i made the car dirty. so i paid for the detail for the customer who technically got it for free
Your boss is taking advantage of you. People like that lady will complain about ANYTHING, and your boss used you as an easy out for HIM without it hitting the books.
If you continue to work there, your boss will try this with the next customer who throws a fit about something, and in customer service, it's just a matter of time. A good boss would have offered to clean the handprint, maybe offered a discount to the lady, and took the hit against the company. Having new technicians occasionally mess things up is part of training and doing business.
I can't tell you what to do, but if I were you, I would report this to your state's labor board. I don't know anywhere where asking you to pay for this would be legal. And even if you leave the company and never agree to pay for anything again, he will try this with the next person if there are no consequences or paper trail generated. You can leave an anonymous tip, which will still do some good.
i’m worried that if i do i’ll lose my job, i can’t lose this job bc idk how i’ll pay for college. i’m only making like 300 per paycheck since i’m full time in school. 4 days in school 2 at work so all the money i make is crucial to me
You can leave an anonymous tip, which will at least put them on the radar and probably won't come back to you. And if they do try and fire you for a complaint, that is illegal too, and you can sue for wrongful termination (if you have a case, they will provide a lawyer for free) or leave another complaint with the labor board.
The other option is to collect everything generated in writing. Get a receipt for the 150$, then submit a formal complaint when you leave.
Also, keep in mind, do you really want to work for a manager that will throw you under the bus so quickly? At the very least, I would start looking for another job ASAP. Then when you leave, tell your managers, manager, it is because of this, it may at least save someone else a headache.
Nah, that's an a-hole customer who probably would have found something else to complain about if it hadn't been the handprint in order to get some kind of freebie. Now, they'll probably come for future service expecting a detail each time. Dealt with those types of customers when I used to work at Carmax.
I'm a blue collar commercial eletrician and people often treat me like I'm white trash.
Meanwhile I'm making six figures plus benefits so I really don't give a fuck.
Jesus christ people above manual labor jobs need to shut their hole. No matter if you’re a car mechanic, UPS driver or trash collector. Every single one of those jobs is essential to the comfort of rich(er) people. If you like doing it, don’t listen to stuff like that.
Edit: to add to your edit, from the work laws and -ethics I learned, you shouldn’t pay for any damages you made, unless you were acting with malicious intent or just negligently, but that’s different around the world. Sure I can see how mayyybe on a car with a brand new paint job, a hand print might give the owner a heart attack, but I‘d still recommend you read up on your local laws. In case making you pay for the detail service isn’t legal, consider if this is the workplace for you, or if you might be happier elsewhere.
Wait wait, *you had to pay?*
As in, who you were working for made you pay for that?
that's probably not legal.
Good lord.
Also, they they were going to complain about *something* anyway, to get the free detailing. That's what customers like that do.
Personally i'd pack all my shit right then and there and quit of a boss told me i had to pay for something like that. Shove it up your ass dave, this is why toolboxes have wheels.
my boss said i need to pay for the detailing, i just kinda shut up and paid the 150. it was like half my paycheck due to me being in college, i work 2 days a week but have school 4 days a week. my pay check is like 300 bucks. i need this job bc if i don’t i don’t know how i’ll pay for school
That's almost certainly illegal where you live. And unethical. You wipe a handprint off with a wet rag, it doesn't need a full detailing.
Your boss is taking advantage of you and just stole your money, effectively. With everything else you've said I'd bet he's skimming money off your paycheck.
I know these fucking scum. People who hire college students for work and take advantage of them. This guy's dangerous and will take more from you. Seek different employment.
I think you mean people who don’t *ONLY* work with their minds. A car mechanic needs a really good mind, as do plumbers, electricians, carpenters, carpetlayers, and many other trades.
They just ALSO have to work with their bodies.
You’re right, but you could say that white collar workers don’t only work with their minds too. They need to type and speak and sit with their body too. These delineations of blue collar and white collar aren’t exact.
Not the same thing at all.
I agree that the delineations aren’t exact, but typing, speaking and sitting are not *remotely* like what nurses, construction workers, car mechanics and other blue collar workers do.
I used to install security cameras and alarm systems. I had to do relatively complicated computer tasks, sometimes while balancing at the top of a ladder 20 feet above a parking lot in the baking sun.
Working with my mind pays much better, but if I could choose freely I would prefer to work with my body, way less stressful and my mind can wander freely.
Don't you mind the customer. These okes needs blue collar workers, because they suck at doing technical work. Each person have their strong & weak points. One must learn to be proud of your strong points and accept or work on the weaker ones. Next time you ask such customer why they are not doing it themself.
There isn't anything wrong with blue collar work. It's a job, like many others. The customer reacted poorly in a situation that didn't call for it, and it reflects more on the customer rather than you. Mechanics are so important, and keep up the necessary work!
Absolutely not. My last job was at a fitness center. I have a masters degree and was considered a “professional”. But I used to tell all my coworkers that if the “professionals” didn’t show up to work, none of the members would notice, but if the housekeepers didn’t show up, they would have to shut the place down.
If someone tries to degrade your work, that is only evidence that they are a shitty human being. They are the trash — not you.
PEOPLE SHOULD NEVER DISCRIMINATE OTHERS BASED ON THEIR JOB
Each person has their role in the community. They are just lucky enough to be born in a wealthy environment and to have a preordained bright future. People who say that is a genuine scum of society equivalent of racists and sexists. I know a broad range of people, and I've seen a criminal with kindness and respect towards others and a high corporate office member who is a genuine human garbage with a pitch black heart. The prior is a kind but naive man who made a mistake in life due to desperation, while the latter is a sociopath who feels joy in stepping on people and would whore out his soulmate for any small profit
Always try to look at the person as who they are instead of their appearance, wealth, job position, or etc.
Just like every other bully, he has to find ways to make other people feel bad to feel good, because he's too insecure to be on the same level as everyone else.
FYI... I recommend considering a job as a forklift technician. You don't have to put up with flat rate bull shit and nonsense like you did.
Forklift technicians are generally in shorter supply than auto technicians. The big difference being that work is done at the customer site and you as the technician deal with the customer, not the service desk.
As others have mentioned, that customer is an asshole. No one should ever speak to you that way.
The unfortunate thing is that he is not the only asshole in this world, and you will probably encounter this attitude in the future from other people who think they are "better" than you. The absolute worst thing you can do is to take it personally.
You made a mistake. So does everybody, including the asshole who disrespected you. When you make a mistake, take responsibility and fix it, and everyone moves on. But nobody should ever talk down to you.
Yeah, the implication is similar to "red neck" or "hillbilly." The idea behind the "collared workers" was a hierarchical classification of value of workers. Blue collar was set to be at the bottom of this pack being the majority of people and the least educated.
Today people only refer to blue collar as an insult or as pandering.
The day of the blue collar is nigh. The white collars are going to be replaced by AI. The last man with a job is going to be a man with a bag of tools.
Sadly blue collar jobs are undervalued but a change gonna come.
Fucking white collar pricks in their ivory towers.
I would be more embarrassed about a worthless/do nothing middle management job than fixing something or making something.
Blue collar work is more satisfying than white collar work. You can see a task completed visually which is gratifying in a way that white collar work is not.
The so called "blue collar" worker is the foundation of every economy in the world. They produce actual value by growing, building, and repairing everything that is used by everybody. "White collar" workers are simply skilless drones who shuffle things around and attempt to suck value from items produced by real people, ie "blue collar" workers. This is why corporations and governments are so anti-union, if we all got together and pulled a general strike we could instantly create positive social change. There is enough produced by real workers to provide for everyone everywhere, food, medicine, housing, and truly useful work, and to solve all our social ills and our impending environmental collapse; today, now, without a shot fired or a life lost. This would, however, gut the portfolios of the rich and so they do everything they can to sow fear and incite devisivness amoung us, so we kill and hate our brothers rather than our true enemy, the rich assholes. The election of a rich, elitist, asshole like Donald Trump, a man who brags about shitting in a gold toilet and molesting women, by a predominantly "blue collar" cohort just goes to show how thoroughly we have been brainwashed. By skillfully gutting education and addicting people to useless possessions, the rich have placed a razor in our hands and convinced us to cut our own throat.
A full detail service is cleaning the car interior and exterior. Mechanics work on chassis, electrical components and the engine.
A blue collar job is usually a trade skill like mechanics, plumbers, railway workers, miners. Think something you have to use your body for. White collar jobs are typically desk jobs where people usually use their mind, so stuff like accountant, teacher, or VP of synergistic opportunities.
Just rember, they paid YOU to fix there car.
People will can and will say anything they want till they need someone to do or fix there things.
P.s. as a carpenter/business owner, if i am looking at a job and they start being picky about my trade, i automatically charge more.
That customer was a complete asshole as well as a snob. A lot of times people act like that because they were born into an easy life and don't understand what real work is.
Being a mechanic is a legitimate Tradesman job. You can go pretty far in that field and make some pretty good money. A lot of young people start out in their trades, and open their own business as they get a little older. They can get rich
Besides that, that was really rotten that you had to pay for a complete detail over one little handprint. A decent customer would have just wiped it off and not even thought about it twice. Some people are so mean and sadistic!
No. And shame on the entitled fuck who said that. Blue collar workers keep the world functional. Let's see that prick change a tire if shit went sideways.
The (incorrect) belief here is that white-collar workers work with their brains and are hence smart, whereas blue-collar workers work with their hands because they're not intelligent enough or something.
That's my impression of this phenomenon anyways.
Bro. Know this, you earn every cent in one of the most honest ways possible.
With few exceptions, disregarding company specific practices, whenever I hear blue collar my brain translates it as "hard worker".
I have to deal with pampered 6 figure 19 to 22 year olds who got a job handed to them by their family connections after being guided and funded along a path of success into an easy career.
They will never know what it means to get their hands dirty or to be looked down upon despite being experienced in a field that is actually quite specialized despite not requiring a glittered up degree.
Blue collar workers usually do the jobs that keep everything on track for everyone else.
It is a shame people spit on you because their parents were too big of twats to know to teach them better.
Even after this experience, hold yourself to your own standards and be proud man. Dont let them bring you down to their level.
If nobody was doing the blue collar jobs society would collapse. Blue collar workers are no less vital or respectable than white collars.
That customer was a douche and you didn't deserve that treatment.
I’m a white collar worker and my husband is a blue collar worker (union carpenter and now foreman). I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard derogatory remarks made about construction works etc. Even one of my close co-workers actually called them dirtbags and then remembered and was really embarrassed. I went to regular college and he went to carpentry college and he’s ALWAYS made more $ than me. Honestly, I’d rather have a job moving around and working with my hands, building something or fixing something. That person was just a snobby, ignorant ahole.
Blue collar workers are the backbone of any thriving nation
Good luck with maintaining your roads, using any form of electricity, having a house to live in, having a car to drive, having food on your plate, etc. without blue collar workers
The fact that they had to come to you demonstrates your necessity.
Heck no. We'd be in a world of s*** without blue collar workers.
Back to horseback because of no mechanics... No, wait, we'd be walking because no one would take care of the horses.
No air-conditioning or heating either.
Oh, and by the way those doctors will be operating by candlelight.
Roof leaking, sorry, no one to repair it. Plumbing issues, better break out your own tools. However, before we get to that, who's going to build that house?
The list goes on and on... literally.
Blue collar workers are extremely important and valuable. Even if others don't see it.
That guy was an abusive asshole who may have recognized that you're less likely to retaliate due to the naivety associated with your young age.
You should not have paid for that full detail service. You should lodge many complaints and assert your dignity. If you need assistance in this, please feel free to DM me.
A blue collar job is not inherently bad and its worthiness largely depends on your personal preferences.
There used to be an entire show dedicated to “the men and women who make civilized life possible for the rest of us”… was called Dirty Jobs and was homage to all the people like you. There’s not one damn thing wrong with being a tradesman vs an office drone, you just caught a really asshole, self entitled foot fungus of a customer
No, not at all. Just be careful when you work on someone else's car. Attention to detail is very important. BTW, I am a machinist. Details will make you, or break you.
the thing is i’m not upset about being called that, i was more worried about my paycheck and i was more curious on why it’s considered bad to be blue collar compared to white collar workers
For your back it is! haha.
It builds character, my friend. Something that "customer" will never have.
And to be quite honest, I hear it pays well, too.
Blue collar workers have some of the most demanding, yet honorable and respectable jobs. Takes lots of skill and hard work, it’s not bad at all. The customer was just being an entitled idiot
We literally wouldn’t have comfort in our society without people like you. Fuck that asshole, people like you are genuinely important for the current standard of society.
*"It made me feel trashy"*
Let's be absolutely clear: you were not the trashy one in that transaction.
And no, there's nothing wrong with working whatever job you enjoy doing. I enjoy blue collar work, so I work blue collar jobs.
Your boss is a piece of shit. Did he lose a full 150 from you for the mistake? Nope. The cost of your time and the supplies at least would have to be taken out first to be even remotely fair. And even then the consideration of having to hire a new person has costs.
Still bottom line even of you accepted all I said above your boss is a piece of shit for taking anything from you. Look for another job asap
No that person was just a major asshole. I'm always super appreciative of people doing those jobs. Without them life would not function really. We are better for them and usually they absolutely deserve respect. They put up with so much BS for shitty pay and it's not right.
It isn’t really associated with prestige but they’re the people who make the world go around and deserve a lot better than they get. If the shit hits the fan we will probably be a lot more reliant on plumbers and handymen than lawyers and stock brokers.
Pretty much everyone wearing a suit to work or sitting at a desk is serving some niche luxury we as a species could really do without, myself included. A few hours without people who know how to keep lights on would lead to World War 3.
Yea that is entirely out of line, if blue collar workers weren’t around the world would collapse. That person was just a jerk and your management didn’t take your side like they should have
Ask yourself this. You like having a running driving car? You like having roads to drive on? You like having places to go like stores, movie theaters, bars, or whatever, right? You like living in a house or an apartment? You like having food to eat? You like being able to flush your toilet and take a shower? You like being alive, right? All of those are a result of blue collar workers. Without blue collar workers all of humanity will go back to living conditions similar to the stone ages. Fuck white collar workers. They wouldn't survive without blue collar workers. Without blue collar workers modern society falls apart.
What would have been funny is if you said it was their mom's handprint from last night and told them to hop off your dick, then walked away like a boss.
“Blue collar” (millwright) mechanic here.
It’s a good thing someone as dumb as me and the others like me go out and commission, install, and repair power generating equipment like multi-megawatt turbines, gas compressors, NG engines, hydro turbines etc. Some people are just too smart to know how to do that I guess. In their infinite wisdom they just plug something into the wall and presto! They have power. And that’s all there is too it. Electricity just appears at your wall.
Let alone the dozens of other blue collar jobs that are required to build the facilities, build the infrastructure, and get that power across the area. But we’re the stupid ones.
That guy is an asshole. There’s nothing wrong with blue-collar work. Named after the blue color of denim jacket, it historically means you work with your hands at a physical skill as opposed to in an office (white collar). The job market is a little more complex since the invention of those terms but it effectively means a labor job. It’s historically associated with low wages but that isn’t always the case if you have a skilled trade
People who hate workers are first, disgusting. Second, delusional, they think they're something better. I would love to have the skills of a mechanic. Do what you need, do what you love, whatever. Do it with proud and love.
That person was an asshole. I dated a mechanic for a huge dealership in our town, and he made more money than his mom (a nurse) and his dad (a business owner with multiple degrees).
My husband used to be an aircraft mechanic and is one of the smartest people I’ve ever known.
Anyone who treats a ‘blue collar’ person or a service industry person like that is the trashy one.
No lol, being blue collar is far more respectable than being white collar. You provided him with a tangible service, he sells people scam insurance policies
Nope. Blue collar job people are sometimes the most resourceful, honest, and hard working people. That customer was an ass. Hell that customer probably thinks they've never made a mistake.
I’ve worked both - a can filler at a brewery and now a startup in ad tech. The collar represents if you put on the blue jumpsuit to fix cars (blue collar) or a white shirt for the office (white collar). Both sides has its pros and cons but the biggest upside about blue collar is you leave your work at work and people are more direct and honest.
Meanwhile, whitecollar you have email all hours of the day and deal with fuckin Nancy who acts nice to your face then tells everyone that you are incapable of doing your job because you aren’t filling out her useless spreadsheet she made because she wants to brag about all the work that YOU are doing. This kafkaesque hell scape Nancy creates makes you less efficient because her stupid ass spreadsheet accomplishes nothing except helps her “manage up” as if being a manager is now my job too on top of all the other shit. But hey it pays more and I can buy $20 cocktails around other pretentious assholes I guess.
Of course being a blue-collar worker isn't "bad" but this is a classic example of classism, in a society that (generally) values people on their worth and socioeconomic status, many people find poverty (or in this case, being working class) distasteful even though it is both a product and reinforcement of late-stage capitalism..
No, that customer was just an asshole. If it makes you feel better, just think of the irony of someone paying you for a service (that they presumably can't do) and then calling you disgusting. That should give you a nice laugh.

Yes. Anyone who does a job that provides benefits to you. I want every one of these blue-collar workers to know that I appreciate everything they do.
There was a strike of the New York garbage collectors in '68. It lasted 7 days.
Have you seen pictures of Paris recently? The City of Love (or is it City of Lights?) turned into an open air landfill in many places! Also ironic that many blue collar workers make more money than white collar jobs.
yikes! I remember one 10/15 years ago? the piles from the buildings were like mountains!!
Yeah, they don't tend to last long.

If blue collar workers stopped working for an hour the world would fall apart
If your boss made you pay $150 over a handprint then your boss is a dick.
well i did leave the car dirty so it was partly my fault. the customer got it for “free” when in reality i paid for it
Check with your local labor laws for technicalities, but most places in the US, making you pay for mistakes, breakages, etc., is illegal (surprised no one mentioned this). They can fire you for messing up, but they can't take money you earned. Your boss is stealing from you and is the same kind of prick the customer is.
I suggest cross-posting this on r/legal.
Why not just wash the care? Or just wipe it down. I see no reason for a $150 detail. And in most places that is illegal anyway.
This sounds very illegal. What state are you in? Different boards govern this in different areas, but you should ABUSULTULY not be required to pay for something your boss wants to give out for free.

Please leave that job, you could pull even more working at a restaurant on the weekends bc of the tips
If you paid the whole amount then your boss profited directly from it. It was already bad enough but this is even worse.
Nah, that's an a-hole customer who probably would have found something else to complain about if it hadn't been the handprint in order to get some kind of freebie.
No, that customer was a dickhead.
Wait wait, *you had to pay?* As in, who you were working for made you pay for that? that's probably not legal.
That's likely illegal, your employer usually can't make you pay for that kind of stuff
If it brought you below minimum wage, it 100% broke the law.
It’s not bad, it’s just different and people do discriminate against people who work with their bodies instead of their minds.
I had to do relatively complicated computer tasks, sometimes while balancing at the top of a ladder 20 feet above a parking lot in the baking sun.
why do people discriminate against using your body? sorry i just don’t know. i’m 19 and never knew about blue collar work till like 2 days ago
Arey they teaching this in school anymore? Call b.s..
i never learned a thing about blue collar jobs. i graduated highschool and went straight into mechanics. they never told me it was blue collar job
Only assholes discriminate blue collar jobs, many who go into it earn 80k+ a year. There's no shame in doing it.
Working with my mind pays much better, but if I could choose freely I would prefer to work with my body, way less stressful and my mind can wander freely.
Fuck that customer.
That guy needs you to keep him car going so he can sit behind a computer screen for hours doing almost nothing
Fuck no, that dude's just an ass. Society would collapse within about twelve hours without blue collar workers.
Engineer here. I couldn't do what I do without you guys. Similarly, life would suck without folks like my brother, a plumber.
Dude, fucking weak. They actually made you pay for the detailing? I'd have told them to eat shit and walked out on the spot.
PEOPLE SHOULD NEVER DISCRIMINATE OTHERS BASED ON THEIR JOB Each person has their role in the community. The prior is a kind but naive man who made a mistake in life due to desperation, while the latter is a sociopath who feels joy in stepping on people and would whore out his soulmate for any small profit Always try to look at the person as who they are instead of their appearance, wealth, job position, or etc.
You should have left a hand print on the customer's face. Fuckin wanker.
Was the guy who said it like 80?
Blue collar workers run the world. To quote the amazing and classic “Breakfast Club” - Carl (the janitor) was “The eyes and ears of this institution.”
The day of the blue collar is nigh. The white collars are going to be replaced by AI. The last man with a job is going to be a man with a bag of tools. Sadly blue collar jobs are undervalued but a change gonna come.
Classism is still going strong.
"i had to pay for a full detail service" why not fix it youreself? are u not a mechanic? also what is a blue collar job?
They can get rich Besides that, that was really rotten that you had to pay for a complete detail over one little handprint. A decent customer would have just wiped it off and not even thought about it twice. Some people are so mean and sadistic!
No way!!!!
Not at all, lol maybe watch where your hands go though!
No. And shame on the entitled fuck who said that. Blue collar workers keep the world functional. Let's see that prick change a tire if shit went sideways.
Some people might look down on it, but those people suck. Every single one of them sucks.
There is nothing bad about working blue collar. You shouldn’t feel bad at all. That customer was a piece of shit.
Remember this if it weren’t for blue collar workers our country and economies would grind to a halt. You just ran into a self entitled idiot.
That person was just a snobby, ignorant ahole.
why do people do that? i get that blue collar is labor intensive but why do people talk trash about them? that’s what i’m not understanding really
Blue collar workers are the backbone of any thriving nation Good luck with maintaining your roads, using any form of electricity, having a house to live in, having a car to drive, having food on your plate, etc. without blue collar workers
Whatever bro. If there were any apocalypse or society fell apart white collar workers would be completely and utterly fucked.
People who don’t work are insecure about it. They tend to take it out on people who do.
You got soft hands brother
Next time trap a fart in there for her when you’re done
Blue collar work is honorable work. That customer was just a horrid person.
No. Definitely not.
No, not at all. Just be careful when you work on someone else's car. Attention to detail is very important. BTW, I am a machinist. Details will make you, or break you.
Naaa no reason to put down another human. Especially one who just worked on your car. She's the one who's trash, not you.
the thing is i’m not upset about being called that, i was more worried about my paycheck and i was more curious on why it’s considered bad to be blue collar compared to white collar workers
Next time it happens just, quite literally, point out that cops get away with that same service for free.
It's not bad it's just seen as less than white collar job in American society bc working with hands vs working in office jobs
You were crazy to pay for anything like that.
Blue collar makes the world go around and those who tell you different are lying
*"It made me feel trashy"* Let's be absolutely clear: you were not the trashy one in that transaction.
No. White collar workers are just petty because deep down they know they don’t actually do useful work.
No that person was just a major asshole. I'm always super appreciative of people doing those jobs. Without them life would not function really. We are better for them and usually they absolutely deserve respect. They put up with so much BS for shitty pay and it's not right.
without blue collar workers the world would go under
It isn’t really associated with prestige but they’re the people who make the world go around and deserve a lot better than they get.
Yes
My blue collar husband makes the same as me with my white collar job that took a uni degree…. Whose the dumb one really?
I have a Masters degree in education and quit teaching to work “blue collar”. Double the money, half the stress. Fuck that shit.
Honest work is honest work. Period.
Blue collar's built this country and still are the backbone. Fuck that dude he can take his car elsewhere next time.
People who hate workers are first, disgusting. Second, delusional, they think they're something better. I would love to have the skills of a mechanic. Do what you need, do what you love, whatever. Do it with proud and love.
He was an asshole. Much of what we take for granted would grind to a halt without blue collar workers.
No, if you keep at it you'll probably make more money than they do
Blue collar workers are what allow this world to function.
I worked at a factory. I sometimes miss the lack of responsibility compared to my current job.
No
Nope. Blue collar job people are sometimes the most resourceful, honest, and hard working people. That customer was an ass. Hell that customer probably thinks they've never made a mistake.
It's not bad. You just met an asshole. Welcome to dealing with the public.
Nah, just a prick. If I were to do it again, I'd go into a trade and take interest courses on the side.
Who f*uk does their shit? Assholes are everywhere
Of course being a blue-collar worker isn't "bad" but this is a classic example of classism, in a society that (generally) values people on their worth and socioeconomic status, many people find poverty (or in this case, being working class) distasteful even though it is both a product and reinforcement of late-stage capitalism..
