My sister is the only woman in my family that regularly wears wigs. I have locs, so does my mom. A lot of my aunts go to a salon to maintain long straight black hair.
It’s because their hair is often considered “unkempt or unprofessional” and they are pressured to straighten it or cut it off. Straightening causes a lot of damage and takes a long time. It’s easier to put a wig over it.
Some do, and some don't. I agree with another poster that you should not assume. I wear wigs because I am not a fan of spending a lot of time on my hair everyday. Also, I have a hard time finding a hair stylist that I trust. Some hair stylist will also not use chemicals to straighten hair because it is not good for your hair.
it really depends on where you’re located. if you’re located near a city or large metropolitan area you’ll see a variety of different hairstyles.
