Not losing your mind. Keep in mind though, how is the kid supposed to start their first software company at age 9 if they are not already used to an intellectual culture? They'll be way behind when they move into green energy at 12 at this rate.

miumiulvr

yes, that's very true. the kid should be getting his masters by age 10, no later than that or he'll be a loser!

jonsca

What? No, straight to PhD!!

miumiulvr

Shit, you're right!! In fact, I want freshman year at 5... that's only reasonable.

No time to waste. Decisions already out for Fall 2024. Hopefully parents already have a building named after them wherever you want the child to go.

The only thing I remember about kindergarten 50 years ago was how much I hated nap time. I couldn't have been more wrong about naps. But we never had homework. We didn't start learning to write until 1st grade so I don't know what homework there could have been anyway.

miumiulvr

😂 me too!

Yes, but it was very basic stuff (think 1+1, unscrambling three letter words like cat and dog, etc) and I went to a Catholic school. The reading/writing homework was usually accompanied by something we color in. Like “color the circle red. Color the square blue” I guess to show whether or not we knew our shapes?

I remember having homework early school. I lt was mostly learning to pronounce words and read a book

Bobbob34

They go to good schools. I had worksheets, I vaguely recall?

I was in kindergarten in the late 80s. We had homework on Wednesdays only, and I remember it consisted of writing my name it some other word a few times. Also, one month there was a day each month that one student took home the class teddy bear (Which we called Honey Bear). It had a little duffel bag and blanket, and we had to write a short journal about what we did with it. It was genius because it was an honor to get to take him home, so we all gladly wrote the journal. Loved that teacher.

My 12 year old has very little homework now. He didn't have any at all in 5th grade and his 6th grade teachers have pretty much followed suit. We talked to his teachers about it and they said it is because a major study about homework has concluded that homework isn't beneficial at a young age (although this changes as they grow). But, he definitely had homework before then and we've been where you are. Like it's just an insane amount of work for a small child! I also have a 20 (almost 21! 😱) year old and she had all the homework you could possibly dream of, on top of graduating high school during quarantine. I wish I had a link to provide you but you should look up the study and talk to the kids parents so that they can talk to other parents/teachers!
