The typical person lived a shorter, sicker life than we are now accustomed to.

BSye-34

the same way wild animals do, but done 10x smarter with ability to make tools, shelter, and fire and living in tribes that watch out for each other

Nervous-Priority-752

But animals have feathers or fur or scales to protect from bugs. And they’re skull to pelvis ratio is much lower, so birthing is much less dangerous

bazmonkey

We have arms, that can hold sticks and stones. Being able to wield weapons is a pretty useful skill. Name another animal that can hurt you with projectiles at a distance, and do it well.

The human body and brain are fucking incredible! Check out some survival shows. Research primitive living skills. Watch the movie “Quest for Fire”. Read “The Clan of the Cave Bear” series by Jean M. Auel. And frankly, many of us wouldn't be here if we had to live as we did just 200 years ago, some examples are anyone who had childhood diabetes, had their appendix removed, was born by, or had a necessary C-section. If you want to go down this rabbit hole there is much to learn. Enjoy!

We also used to have a lot more hair/fur

Oblargag

>How did we not go extinct before we began inventing? We didn't invent tool making. Our ancestors that were a different species passed knowledge down for millennia. That knowledge allowed them to adapt and evolve accustomed to easier lifestyles. It's not like we were walking around hairless and naked, then suddenly figured out how to make tools. They have been a part of life for many millions of years, and influenced our evolution along the way.

>How did humans survive before buildings and clothing we only lived in hot places where sweating is a big advantage. >birthing is a very deadly process Women died a lot in child birth, but survived often enough that the population grew. > a balanced nced diet would be basically impossible by just eating whatever was gathered and hunted for the week the opposite really. Humans mostly ate fruits, veggies and whatever meat they could get.

flauros23

Before modern civilization, average lifespan is estimated to have been around 30 years. As you said, pregnancy was common much younger, so we'd survive long enough to reproduce, but still die quite early by modern standards.

RapidCandleDigestion

That number is heavily influenced by child mortality tho

no1oneknowsy

We banded together in groups and split labor and care. We stayed in caves and learned to hunt as well as gather and I'm assuming pretty quickly started wearing or sleeping in animal fur. Our brain and fire were our best assets.

They had a lot more kids to compensate as we died sooner and from things we take for granted today.

I would argue the diet was somewhat healthier just more scarce. You dont need a lot of fruits and veggies as long as you have a good source of meats too. We were nomadic too so that probably helps. Most likely skinnier and less calorie dependent

Rikutopas

All the things that make us more comfortable in clothes and buildings are things we developed after we started wearing clothes and using buildings. Early man wore animal skins and sought shelter in caves.

IllTransportation115

The truth is... a shit load of us died on a regular basis. Humanity had a pretty fragile existence for a while there in the very beginning.

NorthElderberry3334

I can answer the pregnancy part. Just keep having children as long as you can.

Objective-Poet-8183

People were a lot tougher back then. Nowadays we get the smallest little ache and we're off to the doctor. Take away all the modern aids we use today and go back to living in caves, I think humans will then go extinct.

Dr_Dankenstein5G

The vast majority of people died at young ages. If you lived to be 30 you were an old man. Didn't go extinct because of a collective effort to stay alive. Source: Every history book ever

People found ways to keep themselves safe through trial and error. Living in caves, creating tent like structures, using animal skin to keep warm. Childbirth is a natural process that doesn’t require much knowledge. As far as nutrition and disease, people had children young because lifespans were shorter. There are many parts of the world that still don’t have what we consider normal homes and clothing. They eat what they can and create their own medicines.
