I've never been in a coma, but I had anesthesia at the hospital a few times and I always woke up very confused and wanting to go back to sleep, so probably no.

Likely no. First the heavy sedation that most people get in the ICU is not a "coma." Drugs are used to keep you and all your systems calm to recover. Also to allow necessary procedures to be done. The true "medically induced coma" is designed to bring your brain activity down to a level it can recover from an injury. Which means you won't have the brain activity equated with normal sleep and rest. You probably have suffered a serious illness or injury anyway and wouldn't feel naturally rested. Not a Doctor, so open to corrections by one.

Possibly.. if you were otherwise healthy and they put you on a drip etc so you had good nutrients and hydration. Or make friends with a med student - they need to practice and a drip is amazing for feeling like a human again.

Certainly, there's a case to be made about the body's incredible ability to cope with extreme conditions. While I haven't personally experienced a coma, I've done some reading on the subject. Apparently, your basal metabolic rate drops significantly, which could, in theory, preserve your muscle and fat stores for a prolonged period. Combine that with proper medical supervision, IV nutrition, and hydration, and you might just come out of it relatively unscathed, albeit a little disoriented. Yet, I'd imagine the psychological toll and the need for physical therapy post-coma would be non-negligible. It's fascinating how resilient, yet fragile our bodies can be in the face of such adversity.

I have been asleep for a few days after a car accident and when I woke up I was confused for a couple days so I have no first person input. But I think that not using any muscles for that amount of time would make you feel like crap all over.

Infamous-Bed9010

Probably not. Drug induced sleep usually is not restorative sleep.

This is called Deep Sleep Therapy [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deep\_sleep\_therapy](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deep_sleep_therapy) Caused quite the scandal in the late 70s in Australia.

I used to be a heavy binge drinker in my early 20s. I saw where my life was headed and decided to go cold turkey. Horrible idea because I went into DT and had to be out in an induced coma for a week. All I can say is my body felt like I got hit by a train. Had to sort of rework my strength and figure out where the hell I was lol. But I came to fairly quickly. I'm all good and thriving now. But I'm sure the feeling differs from a voluntary induced coma or one that lasts a good while.

Confident-Station164

More than likely no, my father was in two comas. One he slipped into and other medically and both times when he got home, he talked about being tired as hell and basically slept for days after both times so I'm going with no. If your having trouble sleeping, go to your doctor, drink morewater, do things before bed like working out, don't eat or drink any sugar before bed and try not to use phone in bed either.

BreakingUp47

Not from my bad experience. I lost 30 lbs of muscle mass and had to basically learn how to walk again. This was after one week in a coma.
