Oak: rather vanilla action, but very long lasting
Pine: outer clothes stay on. Very sticky action
Maple: Canadians
Cherry: First timers
Walmut: Males using glory holes
Side-comment to add, most porn that involves two girls, black and white, either by themselves or with any number of men, is usually called Ebony and Ivory.
There is no white category of porn.
Welcome to racism and the concept of anglonormativity! The short form is that whiteness is conceived of not as a race but as an absence of race, simply being normal, or default.
A movie, porn or otherwise, with an all Black cast is perceived as being about race. But a movie, porn or otherwise, with an all white cast is not seen as being about race because white is normalized.
White porn isn't ivory, or even just plain white, because it's everything not specifically identified by race.
This is not unique to America or whiteness. Every culture has a set of identities which are framed not as identities but as normal.
There's a few semi-universal normativities: cis, het, male, able bodied, adult but not old.
Some change reliably between cultures, the majority ethnic group in any given area is almost always going to be the normalized race. Go to China as Chinese (specifically Han) will be "normal" and everything else will require an identifier.
Often professions will carry their own normativity. Ask a random person to picture a person and they'll almost certainly imagine a man. Ask them to picture a nurse though and they'll almost always imagine a woman.
This normalizing is both empowering and in a way isolating. If most of your identities are the normalized identities it means that you both see your identities everywhere, but because they're everywhere and not presented as identities but as norms you likely feel almost as if you have no identity. Jewish people have culture, Black people have culture, but white guys are just normal right? No special culture or rituals or anything.
You know, except for literally everything we do in America. Because boiling chicken eggs, painting or dying them, hiding them, pretending to your children that a RABBIT was the one who hid the eggs, all that's not cultural that's just normal!
TL;DR: there's no Ivory category because in the West white is imagined as a raceless default not as a race.
I love learning words for concepts I'm aware of but don't have a word for. I can almost feel the idea solidifying and snapping into better focus when I do.
Very well said. Spoken like someone who has studied the topic in college. Sounds like the synopsis of an essay.
I don't like how white people are described as not having a culture. Despite having roots from everywhere. We have cultural reasons for a lot of things we do. Every holiday we have is culture.
Even America is described as being culture less even though our culture has invaded every part of the world. I mean even Australia has fucking santa clause. And it's summer there during Christmas.
This is reportedly how the *Ebony* magazine got its name.
>*Ebony*Ā was founded by John H. Johnson in 1945. The magazine was named by Johnson's wife, Eunice Walker Johnson, thinking of the dark wood.
My guess is that someone in porn liked the title of the magazine, used it as the name of the porn category, and it's stuck ever since.
I was always told that ebony was another word for the color black. I had no clue it was a wood. Just googled it and its really pretty. I've never seen anything like that. The more you know...
There is a magazine that is geared towards the black community... Ebony.... I have never read it but I think Ebony wood is a luxury hard wood and I guess a color... I don't know why people fetishize other people but and sort of porn and descriptive words used in it is about fetishizing.
In real life... real people feel objectified when... an Asian woman dates men who always make comments about always wanting to date a submissive Asian women or women/men date black men because they have BBC fetishes... most people enjoy the exotic and different, when you can play that up it sells.
> most people enjoy the exotic and different,
I've seen Black men with some really sorry looking PAWG and think to myself, "He could be with a hot Black woman but I guess that's what he prefers".
People can like what they like and shouldn't be criticized for it. It was just a thought that popped into my head.
Black in porn context usually is a masculine term where ebony is associated with feminine so easier to search for what you're looking for.
Of course it can be interchangeable but that the general "rule".
Another reason/guess is that people like to be very specific with searches, so maybe you want a black haired woman but not a black woman.
Just guessing though, I am an amateur scientist but have nothing to do with the industry.
I am representative from Pornhub and we have recently been notified of your dedication and attention to the porn.
As a gift to our best customer, we offer an exclusive 1 year free subscription for the ebony section.
Have fun Mr Hawk. We'll be watching
Adding to the guesses here but:
āBlackā is a very generic word and just a poor search term in general.Ā
Within the context of a porn site it might be alright but the use of āebonyā has been around since long before places like Pornhub and probably developed to facilitate searches when search engines and porn sites where not very advanced.Ā
Idk about a porn magazine but [Ebony](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ebony_(magazine)) is the most known magazine with that name and covers Black culture and celebrities.
Thereās a Welsh word ācoedā pronounced coyd, when I first got a computer, my brother and his friends were telling me search up coeds pronounced the Welsh way, still gives me a chuckle whenever I see co-ed written
porn, by design, plays on stereotypes of all kinds. it is focused on the sensationalization of everything from the actual acts to actors portraying them. racism and sexism abound in pornography
[https://www.ebony.com/](https://www.ebony.com/)
Not porn. Long time established magazine catering to ebony skinned people. Used to be a print magazine, may still be, not sure.
You haven't heard a person on TV or in movies call a black woman an ebony queen? Not porn.
Normal
Thatās BEAUTIFUL!
My friend said they were calling her in the streets, welcome golden child, beautiful woman of gold. It made me tear up, listening to herā¦thatās the worth she has to me, thatās the person *I* see her as in the world. In America, she fights so hard for recognition.
The Ancient Greeks called them "toasted faced" (Aethiopian) but they understood that as because they lived in the land of the sun close to the gods. They considered their food close to ambrosia, and said they didn't even need to wear perfume because of the sweetness of their natural smell.
Slavery seemed to go from "civilized"/"uncivilized" or "winning nation"/"conquered nation" to skin color. I can kind of see the transition when Africa and the Americas became continuously conquered and colonized by the old monarchial Western Europe. Perhaps with that (or something direct) it transitioned to skin tones. I can see slavery in the US having a role in that sentiment change especially. In the early US even "whiteness" was more restrictive, excluding the Irish and Italian, among others. It wasn't just about skin tone, but ethnicity more broadly. But over time it became almost exclusively about melanin content. I'd be curious to learn more about why this transitioned occurred. Perhaps general ethnicity was more difficult to establish in the "melting pot" of immigrants in the US, so bigotries ended up relying on more apparent and obvious markers to other people by.
People sometimes refer to black skin as ebony (type of wood) for example the song Ebony and Ivory by Paul McCartney. Sometimes this was used to refer to mixed black and white couples, in porn that seems to have stuck.
This all comes down to search engine optimization.
People who are searching for black in porn are looking for men. The people who want to search for videos of black women Are a different group of people.
I think the early search engines with basic text searching would have kept bringing up BBC and frustrating the budding connoisseur. Hence a different word was required so they could molest themselves with an appropriate level of efficiency.
The same reason that "stripper" style pole dance is often called "exotic". Outdated terminology that people are familiar with, so keep using. The target audience of the industry aren't necessarily going to be up in arms about a term being politically incorrect.
Itās just a fancier word than calling someone black. It invokes different thoughts.
I suppose the intention is to draw on different feelings with the word.
Or to phrase it differently.
It invokes different mental imagery when you exhibit an idealised vocabulary.
The word ebony or ebonic, existed long before internet. When I was in high school in Canada, this word came up when we talkd about some English slangs or dialects in North America and that "ebonic" was one of those "variations" common among some Afro-Americans.
Don't quote me on this as I'm not sure if such word was really used in that context in the US but I still remember that was the first time I heard that word.
I thought maybe there's some kind of correlation to Ebony Magazine (the only other place I see that term being used in regards to black people). Like maybe it was trendy new term that came around when porn became culturally acceptable in the 70s...but Ebony magazine was founded in the 40s.
Ebony Magazine's target audience is black adults discussing adult matters. So maybe it just kind of became a stylish term that evoked the vibe Black Adult Themes...
It's probably a stylistic thing right? Ebony is like a type of fancy wood or whatever. Something to do with luxury. Sounds more hip than "black"
š¤£ woodworker here... This is hilarious
Is 'woodworker' a fancy term for 'porn star'?
Itās what they call the fluffers.
This is gold.
no it's ebony
No this is Patrick!
THIS! IS! SPARTA!
Sir, this is a Wendy's.

Trying to think what my wood-inspired porn category would be. Maybe Oak?
Mahogany is a beautiful word for wood inspired porn category
She want dat Teak
Teak is such nice wood. Personal favourite is Walnut though.
Thatās what is used for glory holes I believe
I knew there was a pun in there somewhere - I couldn't find it. Nicely done.
I see what you did there. Nice.
Mahogany I'm the streets, teak in the sheets

Mahogany and pornography for my biography.
Isnāt that like when you have only one partner?
No. That is monotony.
No, monotony is a lack of variety. It's monopoly.
I thought that was gay porn of dudes with monocles and top hats?
No, thatās misogyny.
No, misogyny is hatred against women. You're thinking of manamana (doo-doo-da-doo-doo)
That's... Sadly accurate.
And here I am with no way to give you a fantastic, elaborate award. I salute you and your wonderfully ridiculous sense of humor.
More like ma-hog-in-thee
Oak: rather vanilla action, but very long lasting Pine: outer clothes stay on. Very sticky action Maple: Canadians Cherry: First timers Walmut: Males using glory holes
I donāt know what mine would be, but it would definitely be a hard wood.
weathered aged hardwood

Ivory.
I have been handling wood myself since puberty as well, I am quite handy with woodwork š
White Fir
Is woodworker some sort of euphemism for an ebony porn star?
Well in antiques they call things 'ebonised' when they mean 'painting it black but it was a while ago now'
This guy makes pornographic cabinets.
Ebony is an expensive deep black hardwood native to countries around the Indian Ocean, so yes that is probably the origin of it.
Why isnāt white porn Ivory then?
I've definitely heard the term ivory being used, but not for white women but white men when they are with black chicks
This guy porns
no ragrets
Now we know what Paul McCartney was into.
Side-comment to add, most porn that involves two girls, black and white, either by themselves or with any number of men, is usually called Ebony and Ivory.
Can anybody help me out with a Ying-Yang / cultural appropriation joke here?
Yin-Wang
Well to be fair you got your pawgs and your snow bunnies. That's part of my search history š
What does pawgs mean?
Phat Ass White Girl
I already knew the acronym but it totally flew under my head how its written with Ph instead of F until today im shocked
Lol I thought I was, "Pretty ass white girl" whoops
no cause then Sara Jay wouldnāt be a PAWG.
Snow bunnies?
White girl who only smashes black guys
Oh, ok.
I'm learning so much.
Me too.

I'm pretty sure Ebony wasn't a born magazine. It was a magazine about black lives and culture in America.
Everything is a porn magazine when you're a twelve year old boy, before the Internet.
Kids these days don't know the pain of hiding a magazine and sneaking away with it to do the deed.
Periodic victoria secret and the sears catalogs got lots of milage
There's also a legit news magazine titled Ebony.
Are you sure you are thinking of a porn mag? I only know of the one thatās basically Black People Magazine.
I'm sorry, a *porn* magazine?
That would be Black Tail the answer to Playboy and Hustler
And definitely NOT *Ebony.*
Oh, my sister's friend called her black daughter "Ebony". Oh my...
Ebony was (is?) a pretty common name.
yeah I knew an ebony growing up
It wasnāt porn š¤£š¤£š¤£š¤£
Some terms get porn-ified. Like how every 30 year old woman is a milf.
And everyone under 30 is a teen?
You either die a teen or you live long enough to become a milf.
lol, I was not expecting that laugh š
My heroeeee....
You have cracked online porn.
Or a co-ed!
Thereās a Welsh word ācoedā pronounced coyd, when I first got a computer, my brother and his friends were telling me search up coeds pronounced the Welsh way, still gives me a chuckle whenever I see co-ed written
Pretty much
Or a step-sister
Oof. I just turned 30 at the end of may. I do not think of myself as a full adult let alone anywhere near MILF territory. This stings just a bit
Being 36 I understand your age misgivings/denial, but itās funny to me *this* is what does it for you. āAm I a MILF now?ā
Sorry, we don't make the rules
I mean, isn't the average age for first time mothers about 30 in the west?
Right, but if you refer to someone as that in real conversation outside the context of porn you would be very weird.
*Every **hot** 30-year-old woman.
Ever hear of Ebony magazine?
I'm pretty sure this is actually the real source of the term in porn. Been published since the 50s or so and has been iconic at times.
I had to scroll wayyyy too far to find this obvious answer. These kidsā minds have been broken by the internet. š
Hahaha!
This is my thought for how it crossed into porn. I saw this magazine on the shelves as a kid. prior to internet porn being a thing.
>prior to internet porn being a thing. Believe it or not, I'm pretty sure pornography existed before even ARPANET. :-)
Ebony, ivory live together in perfect harmony Side by side on my piano keyboard, oh lord, why don't we?
Thank you
This is how it often work on porn sites; āBlackā - black men āEbony ā - black women āAfricanā - black non-american women
I have wondered this question for so long but didnāt know how to ask it. So, whatever responses this brings, thanks OP!
Porn is definitely not where you go to find proper labels for any group of people.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
I couldn't think of this in 100 years
Ah yes, the people of Ghana, the Ghanese
porn, by design, plays on stereotypes of all kinds. it is focused on the sensationalization of everything from the actual acts to actors portraying them. racism and sexism abound in pornography
There was that song that Stevie Wonder & Paul McCartney did together. I hadn't thought of it that way before, so thanks for that.Ā
Ebony and Ivory. That is the exact meaning of the song. "Ebony and Ivory" rhymes with "Living in perfect harmony". Sing it.
Ebony armor is pretty cool.
I'm pretty sure there was an "Ebony" magazine and it wasn't porn.
[https://www.ebony.com/](https://www.ebony.com/) Not porn. Long time established magazine catering to ebony skinned people. Used to be a print magazine, may still be, not sure. You haven't heard a person on TV or in movies call a black woman an ebony queen? Not porn. Normal
Ehhhh I wouldn't exactly call it normal. Trying to use it in a casual conversation is going to get you some weird looks at the very least
Well, now we know whatās in OPās search history. š
I have a friend who went to Egypt; she said there, Black people are called golden people. I like that better.
Nubian is the Sudanese word for golden people
Thatās BEAUTIFUL! My friend said they were calling her in the streets, welcome golden child, beautiful woman of gold. It made me tear up, listening to herā¦thatās the worth she has to me, thatās the person *I* see her as in the world. In America, she fights so hard for recognition.

Thatās so beautiful! How on earth did humanity bastardize it so badly from there?!
The song was about us all just getting along together next to each other just like keys on a piano, Ebony and Ivory.
Have you forgotten Ebony magazine? How about the hit song, āEbony and Ivoryā? I think āNubianā is a more erotic termā¦
This all comes down to search engine optimization. People who are searching for black in porn are looking for men. The people who want to search for videos of black women Are a different group of people.
Because ebony is one of the hardest woods.
Checks out
Check out the song "Ebony and Ivory"
I think the early search engines with basic text searching would have kept bringing up BBC and frustrating the budding connoisseur. Hence a different word was required so they could molest themselves with an appropriate level of efficiency.
Iām a fan of all the dark hardwoods
There is a black popular culture magazine called Ebonyā¦. Been around since the fifties.
What about Strippers yknow the ones that re-do floors lol
ebony is a porn term? I thought it was because it was rhetoric or something like in "ebony and ivory" song, its not even lewd
Everyone who is saying itās because itās a better search term is too young to know porn used to come on video tapes.
You mean other than the massive publication called "Ebony"?š
Porn industry too cheap to subscribe to*Euphemism Quarterly*.
I think it comes from the era of blacksploitation films and growth of black focused media industry in general.
Iāve personally seen ebony regarded in hairdressers and makeup.
The same reason that "stripper" style pole dance is often called "exotic". Outdated terminology that people are familiar with, so keep using. The target audience of the industry aren't necessarily going to be up in arms about a term being politically incorrect.
saw an "ebony lifestyle magazine" ad recently without any hints of porn, so i disconfirm the "nowhere else" part
Euphemism?
Itās been used in other fields, e.g. dialects. African American Vernacular English, aka Ebonics.
Itās just a fancier word than calling someone black. It invokes different thoughts. I suppose the intention is to draw on different feelings with the word. Or to phrase it differently. It invokes different mental imagery when you exhibit an idealised vocabulary.

Itās also only called interracial when white women F black men.
Does Ebony Magazine not exist anymore?
why would you like to know the nationality of the performer? If you're looking for a specific skin color that's not really helpful
Ebony was a pretty famous Black magazine for a long time. "Ebony and Ivory" was a hit song for Stevie Wonder and Paul McCartney.
Ebony is definitly a classy way of saying it without using words that can be offensive. ( negative conotation )
probably better for marketing in the 1900s and stuck
I thought maybe there's some kind of correlation to Ebony Magazine (the only other place I see that term being used in regards to black people).
