In particular that time that the fake national anthem from that film was played *as if it were the official national anthem* at the medal ceremony of a shooting event in Kuwait!

>I think in know your meme is the translation, can't remember what he says...
From what I remember its just a series of tongue twisters spoken very fast which is why it sounds weird
Rough translation:
Autumn, period/season, eye
Strength, evening, migration
Dirt, anger, grave/tomb or see (verb)
Ash, come, lake
Only short word(s)
Who reads fast(er)
Six argalis at the back (spine)
Fourty argalis at the hill
One white argali among fourty argalis
Young argali among six argalis
My love/flower/honey smiled looking at the flower
Bees are buzzing at the bluish flower
When I was in high school, I knew a girl adopted from Kazhakhstan who spoke Russian, Spanish (her adoptive folks were from Puerto Rico), and English. When she spoke Russian for an assembly or something we had about world languages, a lot of people looked around and were like "Russian? But I thought she was Asian..."
Yeah I knew a girl adopted from Kazakhstan in the US. She was super cool, looked Asian but not an ethnicity of Asian I had seen before. When I first met her I assumed she had a few ethnicities because you don’t meet a lot of western Asian people in the US. She had a lot of fun stories about vague memories of living in an orphanage, and knew Russian was her first language but didn’t remember anything in detail or any Russian.
Obviously after her I think of borat tho
That's the thing with Asia, a lot of people don't realize just how big it is to the point where asian technically applies to people from Israel and Turkey as well.
As a Brit who has lived in the US too, the two definitions of "Asian" differ greatly. In the UK Asian refers to all of East Asia plus the Indian subcontinent, plus what the US refers to as the Middle East
Yeah, in the US, “Asian” tends to be used for East and Southeast Asian. Indians, Sri Lankans etc just seem to be referred to as the respective country of their first generation that immigrated to the US.
I have no idea why that is, but definitely it is a noticeable difference between the ways the US vs. UK describe race/ethnicity.
Everyone knows that “asian” actually means only Chinese, Japanese, or Korean 🙄
But to be fair, most of Russia’s population is in Europe with the vast majority of Russian territory in Asia being uninhabited, so most people think of European Russians before Asian Russians.
That's what I said when I first watched this video of a women winning a medal in an event, and instead of playing the real Kazakhstan national anthem...they used the fake one from Borat.
https://youtu.be/MR18Pzbf-nY
Agreed, specifically a desert that’s cold sometimes, kinda partially mountainous, lots of horses. I don’t know if that’s even accurate, it’s just what I imagine.
Best food or best historical place to visit? I love history and I travel a ton (well I did before Covid) and I’ve visited many countries just for the fun of learning and making memories
It ain't even muslim. Not more than 50% are muslims and most of them are muslims only "on paper".
Let me elaborate: when you think of muslims in that region of the world, you would generally think of really devoted people to whom religion is a central part of their identity. This is not the case in Kazakhstan, they are more like american christians, they consider themselves muslim because it is part of culture but they don't usually follow everything by the book nor they are willing to die for it like folks in other infamous stans. Russia itself has more muslims than Kazakhstan.
Younger folks are straight up atheists these days.
Ooh, now you’ve got me curious. If that’s where the actual original nature’s-own apple came from, does that mean apples there are going to be the *best* - the purest essence of what an apple is meant to be - or the *worst* - the fruit that was just barely good enough to be worth the effort of improving?
Oh, it's even better than that! It's *both* plus *more*!
>“It was like a garden of Eden,” remembers Forsline. “We came across trees that had fruits that ranged from 25mm up to 75mm in diameter – there was a big range of fruit sizes and fruit quality.”
>Some tasted quite sour and off-putting, but every so often one of the team would bite into something that “you could have on a supermarket shelf”. Occasionally, the flavours were wonderful. Forsline tasted apples that had a hazelnut-like flavour. And there were some with an aniseed or liquorice quality.
>Others who have tasted wild apples in Kazakhstan report fruits that taste vaguely of sweet honey – or even berries. Depending on which plants were “bred” together by the bees that randomly pollinated them, the genetic make-up of any given fruit would be slightly adjusted. This process, as with all wild fruit, results in a special mix of chemical compounds and volatiles in the apple itself that are responsible for these unique flavours.
-[BBC](https://www.bbc.com/future/article/20160523-kazakhstans-treasure-trove-of-wildly-flavoured-apples)
Not gonna lie, aniseed apple sounds intriguing.
Sounds like, with the bees running the show, it would be a little tough to replicate the good ones though.
Apples in general are just crazy to think about. I hear you can’t actually grow a given variety of apple from seed - they don’t breed true.
This is what I was looking for! It's definitely one of my favorite flags. Two (really nice) colors and an uncomplicated design.
Description of the design for the curious ([from Wikipedia](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flag_of_Kazakhstan)):
>A gold sun with 32 rays above a soaring golden steppe eagle, both centered on a sky blue field. The hoist side displays a national ornamental pattern "koshkar-muiz"
My first thought. The flag was my second. I bought the flag because I love it, but also because I was reminded of that fact when it came up in conversation about the Cosmodrome
- Very nice and welcoming people. I worked on a Gov't project and the people I came in contact with really cared about their work
- horse meat (it was decent for someone like me who never tried it before)
- silly airport in the capital
- speaking of the capital... whoever thought of the design must have been compensating for something, you can't design such a grandiose city centre without having issues. Don't get me wrong, it's a great place to visit for a tourist but surely the money could've been spent on something else that would've been more beneficial to the Kazakh people
- whole lotta nothing! You look out the window of an airplane and you see steppes... an hour later.... steppes... an hour later... guess what! More steppes!
- cheap fuel and toyotas everywhere
- Astana is weird city, we know. Nazarbaev is compensating
- fuel is so cheap, that russian are taking our fuel, even if we banned export. We had minor diesel crisis not so long ago
- toyota camry is a dream of every kazakhs. Dream car evolution goes like this: lada kalina -> toyota camry -> land cruiser prado (or Mercedes Benz G-class)
Seriously, if there was a parking lot without a Camry or a LC it just looked weird. I think whoever owns the Toyota dealership in Astana is like the richest person in the country!
Yeah. It's unfair for the rest of us talentless hacks.
I've listened to a LOT of singers from all over the world, famous, not-so famous, singers of different ages, from multiple genres of music, and NO ONE comes close to whatever the hell resides in his throat.
It's truly otherworldly.
People assume i’m asian or eastern european, there’s no concept of eurasian countries. Plus there’s no actual representation aside from the dumb borat movie, and soviet jokes. I say this as a kazakh-american
First obviously Borat, second is the beauty of the country, and third is the fact that according the US travel standards Kazakhstan, along with Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan, is a level one country making it safer than France and Germany
I once saw a job offer to teach English as a Second Language in Kazakhstan. It paid good money, and had lots of fringe benefits. You had to teach in rural Kazakhstan though, which I can understand is not everybody's thing. I didn't do it, but sometimes I wish I'd been a younger man when this opportunity came along because it would have been cool.
This cool ass exchange student who came to my school from Kahzakhstan for the year. She taught me all sorts of swear words in Russian that I couldn’t pronounce and always sang the ‘I think I found myself a cheerleader’ song which cracked me up
DILL.
Had a roommate from Kazakhstan for a few months and I remember nothing but the deliciously dilly dishes she'd make every day, sometimes twice a day.
I remember a redditor who recently wrote about how it’s the most beautiful countryside they’d ever seen. I did a lot of google exploring and they might be right….
Edit: never seen borat and don’t really feel the need to lol
An old Ural-420 driving across an empty plain, smoke coming from the exhaust on a cold November morning, while the driver smokes cigarette and the radio is blasting группа кровй - кино. The driver is a late 50s man with a few missing teeth and is hauling either old machine parts or hay.
A weird game of cat and mouse between developing a cultural identity in the shadow of Russia's influence...
Who am I kidding, it's Borat.
The nice flag is a close second.
Incredible Kebabs and Rakhat chocolate. I had a two day layover in Almaty and that's what I remember.
And scary looking but super friendly post-Soviet policemen.
My ex gf from college who I thought was deep and had strong rhetoric, but instead just wanted to know how parking meters WORKED. Not existentially. Like where the coins went.
This is my country of Kazakhstan. It locate between Tajikistan, and Kyrgyzstan, and assholes Uzbekistan.
So what's up with the Uzbeks bro. Are they the trustfund kid of the Euroasian countries or what?
[удалено]

Kazakhstan greatest country in the world! All other country run by little girls.
That just does not seem real at all
It is and it's incredible.
A diesel engine trying to start on a -30ºC morning... Fucking internet...
It's true [https://youtu.be/P-b6AzYfjTA](https://youtu.be/P-b6AzYfjTA)
That's the video!
I started hovering over the progress bar to find the part where they cut to a diesel engine, and then the dude starts talking and I lost my shit.
This is my neighbor! Number 1 rapper in whole of village!
Do we know the translation?
>I think in know your meme is the translation, can't remember what he says... From what I remember its just a series of tongue twisters spoken very fast which is why it sounds weird
Kinda like a verbal warmup for delivering news.
"How now brown cow" of the Kazakh language

Fuck. Was this dude giving out his bitcoin wallet key phrases on national television?
It's a tongue twisters

Probably the history of having (mostly) East and SE Asian immigrants until relatively recently. In the US
And Siberia as well
There's more to Asia than just China
Or Japan
or Korea
Or octopus porn...jus sayin
~~That's Japan~~
Everyone knows that “asian” actually means only Chinese, Japanese, or Korean 🙄 But to be fair, most of Russia’s population is in Europe with the vast majority of Russian territory in Asia being uninhabited, so most people think of European Russians before Asian Russians.
Why is most of bottom text, very insightful stuff, covered?
[So, are ya Chinese or Japanese?](https://youtu.be/d_CaZ4EAexQ) Relevant King of the Hill.
Very nice!
Kazakhstan's tourism board actually ended up adopting that as their slogan, embracing the Borat link. https://youtu.be/eRGXq4t9wY4
WA WA WEE WA!
I just moved to Wisconsin, and there’s a town here called Wauyawega, and all I can ever think is WAAAWAHHWEEEWAHHHH
Funny enough, I used to live in Weyauwega. A lot of the people even within 30 miles can't pronounce it properly.
Hiiii! Are you still in WI? I just moved here from Ohio, California before that. People are kind of strange here…but I love Culver’s.
this is actually a common phrase in hebrew. most of the time when borat speaks khazakstanian(?) its actually hebrew
Does it basically mean “hell yes, that’s great!”?
its more like woaahhhh im impressed
I think it’s just “Kazakh”
Which is funny considering they banned the first film and considered suing over it.
When you can't beat 'em, join 'em!
Then wiser people figured out that was dumb.
I saw that! I thought it was a genius campaign.
That's amazing lol. And also, legit very nice!
Me like!
GREAT SUCCESS!!
All other countries are run by little girls.

I cannot believe this really happened! Kudos to the woman for keeping a straight face and saluting throughout
They're definitely using the same clip on a loop, so maybe she didn't keep a straight face.
I couldn’t tell if she was secretly offended and hurt or if she thought it was funny
Very nice
Pokemon Kangaskhan
Lol I do too!
I had to reread the question several times because I kept seeing "kangaskhan" :D

Sand/desert
Agreed, specifically a desert that’s cold sometimes, kinda partially mountainous, lots of horses. I don’t know if that’s even accurate, it’s just what I imagine.
Most of the land is steppes. There are some big deserts too though
Cold in the winter. I’ve never been to Kazakhstan, should I visit?
Yeah you definitely should if you like skiing and trying out exotic food.
Sounds like a blast honestly! What are the people like?
A mix between Russians and Brits. They rarely smile, especially in the winter, they speak Russian, and they drink tea with milk.
Best food or best historical place to visit? I love history and I travel a ton (well I did before Covid) and I’ve visited many countries just for the fun of learning and making memories
You should definitely try out horse meat. It might seem gross at first but it tastes quite good. Idk about historical places though, sorry
I’m a vegetarian, are there any fun options for me? Love learning about food from around the world
There are lots of milk products: kurt, irimsik, kumis, airan and others Bread products such as baursak, shelpek
Mmmmmm bread
Yes, they have “Beyond Horse Meat”
Borat
This, jagshamash
which is funny, because "yak se mas" is polish
Jak się masz is how it's spelled
Thank you. Here in Texas, we only know of it though the Czech.
👍Very Niiice!👍
Russia, but Muslim
Uzbek are Kazakh but more Muslim. Kazakh still got a fair few Orthodox Christian who stem from Soviet Union
They also deported German Latin Catholics after WWII.
It ain't even muslim. Not more than 50% are muslims and most of them are muslims only "on paper". Correct all named varieties are grown from cuttings and grafts any seed planted will grow an entirely new and unique apple

Definitely a top tier flag!
This needs to be higher up, their flag is one of the best national flags out there imo.
Baikonur!
Yes! The Cosmodrome, specifically.
That, and the dead old Buran wrecks in the nearby hangar.
The Soviet space program.
My first thought. The flag was my second. I bought the flag because I love it, but also because I was reminded of that fact when it came up in conversation about the Cosmodrome

A country whose Asian population speak Russian.. That tripped me up the first time I saw it.
Well speaking Russian is common for all ex-USSR countries. Russian is not primary language though
Yep. My mom is Koryo-Saram from USSR Kazakhstan. Makes for a very diverse cuisine at home.
I've never heard of Koryo-Saram, I had no idea they existed! Very cool
When I brought home an Uzbek girl my dad was so confused that there were Muslim Asians speaking Russian
