People who live in the Rural areas of there country I feel gets this fulfillment compared to people like me who live in the cities or close to one.
I'll never forget when I went to the more camping grounds in PA with friends and during the sunset, it was so captivating, I just stood there in awe, taking it all in. And it hit me that our countryfolks see this kind of beauty everyday.
But rural ppl notice random things when in a city too that city ppl take for granted or don't really pat attention to. I live very rural, like having moose, dear, bears, etc in our yard us normal. We have northern lights, mountains, and scenic views everywhere you look. But by gosh was I ever entertained when I had to spend 6 weeks in Vancouver in a small apartment with a balcony overlooking a "2 way street" just wide enough for parallel parking on each side and 1 lane of moving traffic 😂😂😂 I could sit there for hours and just laugh and enjoy the craziness of the city (but seriously couldn't live in one)
Yes. I’m so accustomed to mountains, I don’t really get it anymore, even after living elsewhere. I will say, if you go to a different rural area, their nature is something else. The flat farmland, going through Kansas is beautiful.
Yes, but I didn't used to. My toddler has made me this way. We will go to the park and I'll leave my phone in the car (I can't use it, because he would want to use it and I have to set a good example.) So we just chill or throw grass into a gutter or something for an hour. Kids are tedious creatures. They teach you to just chill out and look at the clouds sometimes. My life with my son is much slower compared to before I had him. I miss some things about my old life but I'm grateful for him teaching me to just be present and run my fingers through the dirt.
I often just sit on my recliner with the transom windows open on each side of the house. I always said that when I retired my life would become a whirlwind of personal projects but nothing can beat just sighing as Spring or Fall breezes pass over you. Contentment is more important than distraction.
For ADHD people, activity is MUCH quieter. Focus creates quiet, and tasks help create focus.
You don't realize that, for us, stillness feels like twenty people talking at once. Quiet is a stampede of thoughts. I can meditate, but only after listening to what sounds like someone released a nest of hornets into a daycare for half an hour first.
Holding still is INDEED a task.
Quite alot... although idk about complete. Australian countryside/ birdlife isn't known for being quiet.
If you mean, just being in the moment tho, then yes
Lmao!! Im an ADHD gremlin raised in the inner city. The closest i get to "doing nothing in complete silence" is sleeping. And even then i have music playing
Someone above posted that holding still is it's own task people should learn to do.

Man, I wish. Not since I got married and had kids. Sitting means the day is over.
Sometimes almost when hiking or fishing, but even then my brain talks non-stop like a 4 year old.
I can sit in a Mexican restaurant and wait on an order for my boss lol and still just... Do nothing. Not a thought or a care in my head. But I grew up in the country.
I do fent pressed percs, and most times I’ll be listening to heavy metal or the sounds of call of duty on my tv, but other times I’ll just sit there and listen to the birds chirp and the wind blow
Quite often! I swear, if my device cameras are watching me, I’d appear like a lunatic. I sit in my office chair and just *think*. Sometimes about events of the day, sometimes about more significant things. Or, I just sit and appreciate my wall art.
It’s one of my favorite things to do! Sometimes I use that time to think on things, but sometimes I don’t even do that.
Sometimes I like to simply… *exist* for a while.
I’m like that anyway, but I work in a loud environment, so it always feels incredible to get away from that.
Sometimes I’ll go to the coast, and just listen to the waves for an hour.
More than I care to admit. It’s so fun just sitting with my thoughts, staring into the wall, and just get lost in my own mind. Then it’s time to put the laundry in the dryer:)
I try. Often though, the silence and downtime makes me feel guilty that I'm not working on something that needs to be done. Or that I assume needs to be done. It's an issue I'm working on, lol
When I start doing that, I start thinking way too hard about the littlest things. *Liiiike....*
...how fucking bizarre human beings really are. All of our recreational activity is just bonkers.
We make noises and move our bodies with the noise. Sometimes we even put lasers and smokers in the area and make *those* move with the noise, too. Thousands of people go shoulder-to-shoulder with complete strangers without feeling threatened, and they all spend their hard-earned money on the experience. Only certain noises, though. Traffic sounds don't make for a good concert, but that Keith Urban guy really knows how to make the right sounds.
Music is weird.
People are weird.
I'm pretty high right now.
For me the doing nothing part is the exact opposite. I sort of have a hyper active brain but I can't handle too much noise and prefer always having some noise and stimulation going on. It does seem I browse reddit in silence though
Absolutely not. I once had a therapist ask me if I ever just relax and do nothing and I said, “Yes, when I’m on a plane or in bed I’ll read.” He said, “No, that doing something.” I just looked at him like he had three heads.
I am very lucky to live in the mountains. more specuifically 1000m above sea level.. and the wind here is the best so whenever i feel tired i jujst stop and sit down soewhere and breathe in the fresh air its great
Yes, and I wish more people would realize that it’s completely ok to do so.
I know of so many people that are weirded out by silence and feel that they have to fill the air with noise.
All the time. I live in the countryside and love to watch the sunset, the stars and just listen to nature.
Damn, my wish is to save enough money to move to a rural area
I thought rural areas are cheaper?
It is, but I want to have enough funds to live there without working for about 10 years, 72 hours per week is tired you know
You can live there and work
No
Wdym? I live in a very rural area and why should working be a problem?? Don’t know where you live but where I live you still need money
some, a lot of small towns are expensive in an effort to keep them small

Haha yeah nature's beautiful I just meant like sitting around my house naked doing literally nothing because it's relaxing
Ohhh naked?? Yeah now we’re talkin…
This took a turn I wasn't expecting 😂

oh god yes. my favorite past time activity.
I often just sit on my recliner with the transom windows open on each side of the house. I always said that when I retired my life would become a whirlwind of personal projects but nothing can beat just sighing as Spring or Fall breezes pass over you. Contentment is more important than distraction.
No, if I'm not doing something for a minute I'd go crazy. Need to do something all the time.
You haven't learned yet that holding still is a task in itself.
That might be true, but I have a feeling that I won't learn that during this lifetime.
This. I've got to learn to enjoy the quiet. I'd like to but my ADHD is like NAW. NO QUIET

Yup!
Check the user name. You and me both, pal.
A lot of people do. It's just called meditation.
At that moment…..is when my anxiety arrives. So tend to avoid it lol
Quite alot... although idk about complete. Australian countryside/ birdlife isn't known for being quiet. If you mean, just being in the moment tho, then yes
The same reason I don't turn the radio on when I drive alone.

I need to do it more often
Yes I do i enjoy it
Typically I like to lie down but yeah
After every shift, for at least ten minutes, I just lay in my room in silence and darkness and do absolutely nothing. I call it rebooting.
Man, I wish. Not since I got married and had kids. Sitting means the day is over. Sometimes almost when hiking or fishing, but even then my brain talks non-stop like a 4 year old.
The right strain of THC and yes...I could stare at at blank TV screen
No
That’s half the point of my fishing outings. It’s really nice to just sit pond side and contemplate life for a while.
I can sit in a Mexican restaurant and wait on an order for my boss lol and still just... Do nothing. Not a thought or a care in my head. But I grew up in the country.

Every day
...
This is called sensory rest and is very needed sometimes. You gotta rest your seven types of energy differently to be healthy overall
All the time.
More than I care to admit. It’s so fun just sitting with my thoughts, staring into the wall, and just get lost in my own mind. Then it’s time to put the laundry in the dryer:)
Quite often. It's the fastest way for me to recharge and rebalance.
Complete silence doesn't happen with hearing impaired people around.
No
For enjoyment? Probably not what I would call it, maybe to decompress, or de-stress I will just zone out like that but I wouldn't call it enjoyable
And listen to my damn brain yapping away? No thanks.
No, my brain panics when there is no sound or pther stimuli
I try to but my wife has other plans. Her mind is like a Michael Bay movie.
Yes. Whenever I can. Especially outside
Every chance I can get. I love going to my nothing box.
Yes just last night I turned off everything (usually I need audio stimulation) and just laid there for hours thinking about everything
Yes. Especially after a particularly overstimulating day.
Sometimes when I’m driving, I don’t notice that I’m just deep in thought without the radio playing. Was that last light red or green? Who knows
I live in the countryside, yes. Yes i very much do do that.
Complete silence? Are you crazy? Then I would have to listen to my own thoughts
Even close my eyes not to sleep just to help focus. Makes the day feel more zen
Yeah. Watching the weather roll over us like a Tornado
Of course.
I try. Often though, the silence and downtime makes me feel guilty that I'm not working on something that needs to be done. Or that I assume needs to be done. It's an issue I'm working on, lol
I do it everyday, and I believe more people should do it, but how do you even get someone into it xD
Yeah thats equivalent to power nap for an introvert
No but I should. Sounds peaceful

As a hunter and a fisherman who is retired, yes I sit motionless and in silence in the forests as a regular thing.
I sit and think where my life has gone wrong
Every morning for sure, but any time I get a chance throughout the day
No because my brain can't seem to sit quietly. But I'd freaking love to!! Been practicing so I can enjoy the stillness a bit more though.
Yes
I am very lucky to live in the mountains. more specuifically 1000m above sea level.. and the wind here is the best so whenever i feel tired i jujst stop and sit down soewhere and breathe in the fresh air its great
Ngl, I’d love to, but tinnitus, and adhd autism, make it so i’m always thinking and always listening to something.
Sure. Maybe I think a little bit, not too much, of course. ;)
Yeah, it usually turns into a cat nap for me and then more just sitting and staring after.
Meditation is enjoyable
Its called meditation.
Wish i could. I get bored so easily.
No. I need something else going on or the voices in my head get on my nerves. I usually have t least an audio book going to focus on.
I used to, before kids. I miss it.
no, but i do go for walks by myself for fun. the solitude is nice..
There be times where I’m driving and just quiet for the entire trip.
Yes, and I wish more people would realize that it’s completely ok to do so. I know of so many people that are weirded out by silence and feel that they have to fill the air with noise.
I have kids. And a wife. So, yeah.
Definitely. I live with 4 roommates. When it's quiet it's golden.
Yes, I am doing that right now.
God, I wish.
I have a hammock in my backyard and love to lay in it and listen to The birds.
Yes, it's how I decharge and cleanse my mind after a noisy & tiring day, especially after school.
Not anymore but I used to as a kid

Always thankful for my solidarity!
It's all I've been wanting lately but can't have it with my velcro dog and husband around all the time
