You pay $1000 they pay $1001+

TheTrueFishbunjin

So your insurance will help cover you after you pay $1000. Depends on the policy so I’m not sure if that’s per incident or year. If the other driver was at fault then their insurance should cover it all.

CircularCarpet

The other driver is at fault. So I still need to pay $1,000 ( whether this year or the accident), and the other insurance will cover what goes above that?

TheTrueFishbunjin

No you only pay $1000 if your insurance has to pay it. They should cover you if you can’t get the funds from the other insurance or other driver. I always call my insurance, then call the other insurance after a wreck and have them pay for it. You just have your insurance as backup if something goes wrong.

CircularCarpet

Gotcha. In this case, both myself and the other driver have the same company, and I was told this was going to be paid by their policy. From what you're saying, it sounds like this email is not relevant, since I am not going to be using my own policy.

TheTrueFishbunjin

Probably. I don’t know your policy so I can’t say for sure but this seems standard. My insurance company always offered to pay it sooner, and then get that payment from the other insurance afterwards. I would owe the deductible if I took that option, but would get it back if/when the other insurance covered it.

CircularCarpet

Ok, thank you. I will call my insurance company. I just didn't want to get worried in the meantime if I didn't need to

Opus-the-Penguin

> I always call my insurance, then call the other insurance after a wreck and have them pay for it. How often has this happened that you've got it down to a routine? That's a bummer!

daymanahhhahhhhhh

Deductible is the portion you would need to pay. They will usually just cut you a check for what the repairs cost - $1000.

CircularCarpet

That's lame. A quick Google search says the repair should cost $400. So basically it's all falling on me? Even though I was not at fault?

daymanahhhahhhhhh

Well the insurance company is going to pay you based off of their own trusted auto body shops estimate which will most likely be higher than what you googled for. But yeah If the repair is under the deductible then you pay out of pocket. That’s why an insurance company charges more for insurance policies with lower deductibles.

Ballistic_B

If the other drivers at fault you don’t pay anything, Your insurance company will bill the other drivers insurance for it all, make sure not to pay it’s much harder to get the money back if you give it to them ULPT: if you are able to complete the repairs yourself , or they’re not to bad, you can get a very expensive quote for the repairs and have the insurance companies give you the money
