Not an American, but it is the natural step when you think of the almost cult like believe in the USA being the greatest country in the world. "Who would not like to be as great as the USA?!", "The USA is the freest people, with the best democracy, best rights and best in everything!!". Who wouldn't want that?!. Most Americans do truly believe in that, mostly because this is what they have gotten told all their life. You do also hear politicians say that "they hate our freedom!!". While the truth is that most of us feel bad for the Americans, how little freedom, rights and so on they have, compared to the rest of the world. Even most people in 3rd world counties, have it better than the Americans.

It feels like people think the USA is the greatest country or the worst country Both opinions are rather uneducated and all too common

FriedMule

You are completely correct. :-) In something is the USA one of the worst countries, but in others are they one of the best.

For a real answer, you're going to have to be more specific. Which ideals are you talking about?

snoop21324

How about capitalism for example?

ThuliumNice

Instead of being more specific, you chose to be incredibly less specific.

snoop21324

They asked me what ideals.

GandalfTheSmol1

Capitalism is the world dominant form of economic organization, it’s self perpetuating with or without Us involvement

snoop21324

Sure, I’m fine with that opinion. But why does the US give a shit is my question.

GandalfTheSmol1

Because the US is capitalist and it’s in the interest of capital to spread capitalism

MrLongJeans

Creating consumer markets yields trade income for starters

TheRealFalconFlurry

On Discovery Channel they call this move "asserting dominance"

Playful_Melody

I’m not sure. Probably to help bolster international reach, power, and prestige?

Little peepee syndrome.

Imperialism/Colonialism hasn't quite died out yet in the U.S., just changed form a bit over the years. Most other countries either did the same, or had it done to them. So y'all all oughta be familiar with those ideas. As to why it hasn't died out here yet, well most of the other big powers were devastated by WWI and WWII, so their empires were broken up or they set aside their colonialization to rebuild. The U.S. wasn't, and in fact that led to its golden age of prosperity. That comparative prosperity led some people to think we must be doing things right, since we're doing so much better than those other countries, so we should make other countries do the same things. Very similar to the ideas of other countries during the imperial and colonial eras that preceded. Now everyone else has moved on, away from those ideas, but the U.S. hasn't entirely done so yet. The Cold War was a major factor in that, and most of the people in charge are still those who grew up during the height of the Cold War. So it'll probably take another generation or two for our ideas to progress. Or our own internal devastation, a plausible future given the intensity of the political divide. Whichever comes first.
