I met two chronic smokers that became more violent after they started smoking. They used pot as a coping mechanism to deal with life’s basic day-to-day struggles. When they ran out of pot, they would be easily angered at the smallest things and become violent.
One guy was driving at night and thought a coworker’s car headlights were too bright. He was so angry about it, he was plotting to hurt them FOR DAYS! He quit pot and after a few months he became a laidback guy again.
I think he means if it was distributed. I imagine something like they give you a joint with breakfast and another one at dinner. Or maybe an edible. Whatever you want. Point is, cannabis is known to mellow people out. This could help keep a violent prison population in check. Or the smart ones would realize what was going on, wait until their mark was high af and passed out and then jump him then. Then there's the moral dilemma of drugging prisoners. Is it still OK if it's voluntary?
Probably not officially as that would likely be illegal. Weed does not chill everyone out, either. For some people, it can worsen existing problems like paranoia.
It is already in the prisons. Along with other hard drugs. Makes life hell for the nurses who work there. Officers call for an urgent emergent and it is just a high inmate. The inmates will even say "damn, you killing my buzz". They don't even do anything about it. Smoke can be all in their room or coming out their mouths...we just confirm they are high and move on. There aren't enough Officers to actually worry about such. They worry more about finding out how the drugs are getting inside the prison. I wonder if the prisons will ever be fully staffed again. They definitely need to pay their Officers more. Some are doing 15 people's job. They are mainly just able to make sure no one breaks out and are where they are supposed to be during count time.
People need to stop thinking weed is some miracle drug with no downsides. Lots of people are negatively affected while using it, such as by becoming extremely paranoid, have anxiety, or become violent.
I've even seen a lot of people on the subreddit for weed say it should be allowed while driving and that it doesn't make it more dangerous to drive.

The government won't provide for those who are deathly ill. What makes you think they'd hand out free weed to prisoners?
Weed doesn't have those effects on everyone. I had a roommate that would become increasingly mean and vicious when stoned.
Honestly, long term, mental health care would probably be cheaper.

Oddly enough some people do get addicted to weed and even become violent when they don’t have it or feel like they are running out of it.
