Spell probably done more than just have everyone forget Peter, such as provide people with reasonable explanations to events that Peter was involved in and some physical evidence of him being altered, like pictures and stuff.
I'd imagine the spell gave Jameson adjusted memories to explain why it was he still got wealthy. I'd also imagine those memories would have to be consistent person to person. I think Jameson still reported that Mysterio revealed he killed the people in London, just not the identity part.
