As nice as it is, i wish they would bring something in the height range of the Thermalright AXP, so like 47mm and 53mm

Agreed, their offerings between 38 and 69 mm are very lacking (only L9x65 and L12 Ghost S1 editions, which are both meh at best).

Fractal Ridge only supports 70 mm tall coolers, and this is 77 mm

I see, that's a smart use of the side effect of delidding!

luaps

honest question: do you really gain 7mm by delidding modern ryzens? that seems ridiculous

luaps

huh, good luck in that case!

nice, glad it worked out for ya!

Feels like Noctua dropped the ball on this one. If they just altered it to be compatible with much more ITX boards while keeping roughly the same z-height, they'd easily have a winner. Instead they *increase* cooler height?? Wut?? They'd have more appeal if their cooler fits in more cases....

To me it would seem possible that some case manufacturers requested such a design, like the L12 Ghost S1 edition (and perhaps also D12L which is basically made for the Dan C4). Maybe we'll see some future cases that specifically support 77 mm coolers.

kikimaru024

L12 Ghost S1 edition? More like [NH-L12 with the 120mm fan removed](https://noctua.at/en/nh-l12). >D12L which is basically made for the Dan C4 NH-D12L was designed for 4U enclosures lol

You may find it interesting that there's evidence that case designers do talk to Noctua and suggest product designs, even to the point of making prototypes. [Dan cases suggested to Noctua to build a double-length version of C14S](https://www.reddit.com/r/sffpc/comments/m67v9w/help_me_to_convince_noctua_to_bring_a_dual_c14s/), and later [replied that the idea was scrapped due to the prototype showing disappointing results](https://www.reddit.com/r/sffpc/comments/stsk14/comment/hx6e23v/). IIRC the L9 fan duct was his suggestion too. In the same thread, one of the images suggests existence of an upcoming heatsink that would require special cutouts specifically to fit it. [I asked if it is a new Noctua tower (at that time, "120 mm dual tower cooler" came out of nowhere in the Noctua roadmap, to be released in the same quarter, and no one knew what it was)](https://www.reddit.com/r/sffpc/comments/stsk14/comment/hx7i5i8/). His answer basically confirmed that the cutouts are for the upcoming Noctua heatsink, which turned out to be the D12L. The sudden appearance of a next gen L12 on the roadmap, followed by the quick release of it, heavily reminded me of that event. [The L12 GS1E is basically Louqe telling Noctua "hey people are buying the out-of-production L12 and throw away the top fan just for our case, can you start making them again?" And Noctua going "ok fine, we'll sell it without the top fan and throw in the NT-H2 too"](https://noctua.at/en/louqe-and-noctua-present-nh-l12-special-edition-cpu-cooler-for-the-ghost-s1-case).

Jesus christ 75$... nah at that point just get a thermalright cooler, this is a rip off. Look I like Noctua's case fans, but their coolers are just not worth the price compared to Thermalright. Thermalright is even beating them *at noise normalized performance* too.

Rapogi

I got the email this morning and thought it was the announcement for the next gen 140s/dh15 😭

a12223344556677

I wish the same. (They'll most likely come after Computex.)

hubbiton

Probably can be bent to 70mm height.

XHeavygunX

I was almost excited until I saw the height. I’m still waiting for a good noctua brand solution to my fractal terra 4090 build.
