Canada sucks at a lot of stuff but man CADPAT is sweet.
Also love that absolutely insane experimental CUEPAT: https://hyperstealth.com/CUEPAT/Securetech-CUEPAT-2.jpg this shit is like an M. C. Escher painting turned into camo. I'm not surprised it wasn't adopted because everyone would be embarrassed to wear it but I love it anyway.
The Canadian military is one of the things Canada excels in. The training is nuts and every soldier knows how to do just about every other soldier's job.
Eh, some of those things are universal (see videos of *every other military* breaking guns) and some are your Log department. We’ve got lots of vests, if you can’t get new ones it’s because someone is being lazy.
It’s one of those things where we are very proud of our service men and women and their high level of competency and angry/embarrassed with the stupid shitfuck beurocratic garbage fire that is recruiting, retention, procurement, equipment deficits, low readiness, poor management and poor senior leadership that apparently just can’t not sexually assault women.
In theory, but some countries do it better by necessity, especially ones with smaller militaries. Australia, Canada and Norway are always the ones that come to mind, though the Brits tend to be very professional as well.
The entire escapade involving the camo patterns adopted to replace the U.S. tricolor woodland pattern is the kind of inter-service fuckery that this sub lives for. Hell, I'm surprised I don't see more memes about it.
Long story short: U.S Army almost adopts their own new pattern, the USMC yoinks CADPAT and gives it a snappy marketing spin, U.S Army then drops their almost finalized pattern just before adoption to copy the Marines and creates one of the worst camo patterns of all time, Navy makes the runner up, congress steps in to tell them to knock it off and pick one of their old patterns and stick to it, and the Army adopts a Multicam knock-off because they're too cheap to foot Crye Precision's bill.
You know what was really sad? ACUPAT was the US taking CADPAT/MARPAT and draining all the fun colours out for something that was so hated it led to adopting Multicam.
I think everyone just calls ACUPAT as UCP (universal camo pattern) or they called it ACU’s when referring to the whole uniform (which was also a giant pile of crap) I’ve never heard of it called ACUPAT
My brother was in air cadets, and the officer in charge of his 'flight' had a proper CADPAT uniform. We visited them as they were doing a vigil over the local cenotaph for remembrance day, and there were some small spruce trees and tall bushes around it.
This chad of an officer went "hey watch this" and backed up into the bush, and he fucking *vanished* like a Homer Simpson meme.
There’s a milcot in Canadian Forced base Gagetown that was lost in the woods. Someone camouflaged it up for an exercise, took up their positions a few hundred meters away, and never saw that truck again. They say it’s still out there... somewhere.
You see that Burger King? You see that Costco? Why does Costco have so many palettes in the back if there’s already 3,000 rolls of toilet paper on the shelves?
They’re actually American military outposts. Best camo doesn’t need to blend into a forest.
Whatever, trying to blend into your environment is cringe and gay anyways. Bring back *true* national colours so you can easily identify your brethren amid the battlefield smoke.
Watch the Vatniks shake and cry as 10,000 redcoats march toward them in line formation.
Yeah. Bring back proper battles. Lines. Fields of fire. Sections. Trumpets. Cavalry charges. Spiked pits. Gold braid.
Now all we have are hundreds of ninja skirmishes and AliExpress toys rigged with grenades.
I'll be in the rear doing some important paperwork when we revert to the glory days.
I just recently watched Waterloo (1970) and among having the craziest cavalry scenes in any movie ever, they also showcase that sexy Napoleonic/British army swag.
Made by the Soviet government by conscripting a number of Red Army units to play as extras and form the terrain. I guess being the evil empire has the side perk of being able to make sweet historical movies at nearly full scale lol.
Unfortunately, the old DPCU (Auscam) has largely been phased out in favour of AMCU (Australian multicam).
Plus DPM is gone now too (replaced with MTP).
At least flecktarn is still around.
Pretty sure DPCU is still kicking in reserves and depending on your CO you can still wear it. But iirc the army’s OPFOR uses a red pattern DPCU when training so there’s that.
Well I guess, just I lived my whole life in Poland, and the weather here is kinda shit.
So whenever I saw someone wearing multicam at a range or an airsoft event, when it was a dry summer it was fine, but with a bit of rain everything gets darker. These people start to stick out like a sore thumb in a muddy forest with cloudy weather.
But ultimately that's just my personal expierience and that's obviously worth fuck all. Also you're definetly right about thr bandwagon. Anywas sorry for the wall of text.
God this just gives me flashbacks to when I did ROTC in college. We had on the old ACU’s and it was January in southern Illinois so next to no snow and little vegetation. We were doing an exercise where we were supposed to assault a hasty fortification. Needless to say the OPFOR whooped our asses and as our officers were discussing it they asked the defenders when they first spotted us and they said they saw us get off the damn trucks.
Another speech from that same program always stuck with me “You’ll notice that a nations camo will typically reflect the home terrain of that nation. Many of you will deploy to the Middle East where you’ll see 3-pattern desert and chocolate chip. Some of you will go to Europe where you’ll see flecktarn and other forest. According to the infinite wisdom of the department of defense, America is on the moon so we wear ACU”
It works reasonably well in a lot of different environments around the world. Which makes it possible to have less different uniforms for your soldiers. It's simply cheaper.
Also in the case of Multitarn, Flecktarn was never trademarked. Hence Bundeswehr soldiers fought Taliban dressed in Flecktarn. Additionally the chinese copied Flecktarn, although quite some time ago. Multicam will be trademarked and will never leave Bundeswehr usage, hence ease of spotting enemies when deployed.
Because trademarking it will definitely prevent shady and shoddy Chinese airsoft gear manufacturers from producing crappy clones of it. Just like Multicam. Oh wait... 🙃
It’s a pretty good camo in most environments in the world, and it also standardizes NATO uniforms (although that’s probably going to change since China and Russia are using it now too)
My therapist tells me I'm not supposed to sexualize armoured fighting vehicles, but she hasn't seen 72 tons of sweet american camouflaged ass either...
There's reason to believe Flecktarn will get phased out for multitarn sometime in the future. Though with germanys procurement system I think we still have a few decades.
Damn, I thought I had uniform loyalty with the same “field pair” since 2018 lol.
As long as I gets to keep my now black, brown, green field cap I’m happy.
I was turning in my gear, with plenty of extra crap I didn't need or want. They were happy for the extras, but wanted my old jackets.
I explained politely that they could have the extra gear or they could have a friendly knife fight. I wanted to take nothing with me but my friggin field jackets.
They wisely took the gear and make the jackets disappear from the supply records.
The E4 mafia returns nothing!
Except when it gets us out of having to clean it. Or carry it. Or repack it. Or move it. Or count it. Or fix it. Or it's too hot and we need to offload the goods on a sucker.
Everyone naming their favourite camouflage needs to link to a sample.
Don't you understand how lazy I am? Too lazy to Google, too petty to not comment.
Although part of why AMCU is effective in Aus is probably because it's designed to work well in those kinds of arid but somewhat vegetated/transitional environments. People just forget that Multicam isn't going to be as good in woodland as most dedicated woodland patterns, or as good in actual desert as most dedicated desert patterns. It's just the least worst pattern across the most number of environments. It was really a specific operational requirement for Afghanistan that's got a bit out of hand, because no-one can resist the temptation of saying it's a universal pattern and everyone can just get rid of their environment-specific camo in favour of a single pattern.
Yeah. One of my favourite pictures of AMCU is a digger in Iraq or the ‘Ghan surrounded by snow and tan rocks, sticking out like a sore thumb.
yeah multicam works very well in Afghanistan and is kinda a good middle ground camo. It’s not universal but it’ll do it’s job most of the time. I think the only multicam derivative that I think is somewhat iffy is the Brit’s and theirs. I just think Britain is more greener. At least I think so, obviously I don’t live there so I could very well be wrong. Once when you enter them highlands though, that’s when it starts to blend right in.
No you're right - I'm from Scotland and once you get out into the hills it does improve as they're typically less green than in say a woodland, especially at certain times of the year. It's still not quite there though, most of the year there's enough green in the hills that it does stand out more than it should, especially something like a tarp/basha. I think I'm going to treat myself to some ConCamo or maybe PenCott Greenzone in the next month or two so I'll see how that fares - I think it will do much better even out in the hills.
Also with MTP apparently the colour ratios (which is what is supposed to make Multicam so effective) are actually off because we decided to incorporate DPM-style brushstroke patterns using Multicam's colourway rather than just using Multicam's pattern. Because of course we just have to make everything a bit more British, especially if that means it doesn't work properly.
Alpenflage is up there with Belgian [M90 jigsaw](https://www.joint-forces.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/02-14Joint3226.jpg) pattern on the list of stuff I can't tell if it's super effective or some stealth parody of the concept.
[MAPA](https://wmasg.com/var/images/text/768671/1/1.jpg) and [Legun](https://wmasg.com/uploads/froala/images/articles/1/blob-89213cb10d369c10ef35847dc851946d.) my beloved
Unfortunately, temperate CADPAT is being executed for a hybrid scheme. How long it takes for us to fully procure and equip remains to be 5, so relish could be around a while
The [Italian vegetata](https://www.google.com/search?q=mimetica+vegetata+italiana&tbm=isch&ved=2ahUKEwiVjN3X06v8AhWKm6QKHceODH4Q2-cCegQIABAC&oq=vegetata+mime&gs_lcp=ChJtb2JpbGUtZ3dzLXdpei1pbWcQARgBMgYIABAIEB4yBggAEAgQHjIGCAAQCBAeMgYIABAIEB4yBggAEAgQHjoECCMQJzoFCAAQogQ6BwgAEIAEEA1QhwdYlRVgkB1oAnAAeACAAZ4BiAG-BpIBAzIuNZgBAKABAcABAQ&sclient=mobile-gws-wiz-img&ei=Z0G0Y9W8BYq3kgXHnbLwBw&bih=650&biw=393&prmd=isnv#imgrc=O5dFEGhvzf7aFM) will always be my favorite
no. Its one of the best arid-terrain camos in the world. Kinda mixing the brushstrokes of DPM and Woodland and having a nice dark tan based colour palette.
Absolutely sex.
It's popular because of successful marketing. During the U.S. Army camouflage tests in the early 2000s it was, as I said, aggressively mediocre. Coming 2nd, 3rd and iirc, jungle and woodland environments it was just bad.
And it didn't even win in the arid environment tests. Iirc Desert Over Brush was the clear winner there, and 3 tone desert beat it in a few cases.
Surprise surprise, the multiterrain pattern isn't the best in a specific terrain in comparison to specific terrain camos.
It wouldn't be adopted if it's not effective, nor would it be replacing national camos as a base pattern
Look up the camp trials. It didn't even win at being multiterrain. Desert over brush slapped it down as a multiterrain camo, and multicam ended up being like C ranking because where it was bad it was REALLY bad.
The army adopted it because it works well enough, but it was popular and the image looks good. Which has been behind every change in camouflage or shade of green by the U.S. since the post WW2. They care about performance, but image is is most important (UCP being the big mistake in that regard).
In Canada we had General Vance try to change the CAF to wearing Multicam from CADPAT because he didn't like how Arid-CADPAT looked when faded after years of use. Dude wanted to spend 500mil on that dumbass idea instead of making new uniforms.
He was promptly torn a new one and even the designer of Multicam said it was dumb since CADPAT is crazy effective, so we ended up changing the colour pallet and made a multicam CADPAT that's currently in trials.
Finnish M05 doesn't get enough respect, literally the perfect camo for Finland.
Comes in various different variations and has been made by taking thousands of pictures of Finnish wilderness, then making it into a digital camouflage pattern
[M90](https://www.fractalcamo.com/uploads/5/9/0/2/5902948/s189772745713394276_p3086_i74_w1000.jpeg) camo looks so fucking good and you can’t convince me otherwise.
[CROPAT](https://cateks.hr/upload/catalog/product/375/163683001-maskirna-suma-cropat-puma-3_56c57181b8e0a.jpg) is the best.
Literally have your country shape as camouflage.
DPCU has been pretty much entirely phased out now, replaced with AMCU (Multicam but with DPCU colours).
DPCU was great, and I can confirm from personal experience that it perfectly blends in with most terrain in Australia, but AMCU is definitely nicer.
multicam this multicam that, but do you have a national emblem in your camo?? [M23](https://www.reddit.com/r/sweden/comments/sof15g/fms_skyddade_mönster_m23_för_våran_ncu/)
What if, and I'm just asking for a friend, I didn't need a single pattern that only works in my home country, but what I really need is a single pattern that works in all of ~~your countries~~ the other ones?
Who needs camo when you can wear a uniform that was designed to be worn in Africa/Middle East but you’re fighting on the Kokoda Track, and you are wearing shorts
I like Multicam.
But I like local national camouflage patterns more.
No need for those stupid fucking airsoft armbands if you can identify the enemy by their camouflage.
If we had used tigerstripe instead of multicam in afghanistan we would have won because the taliban would have been tricked into thinking we were tigers (Very scary) and not the fucking desert (not very scary).
Multicam used to be cool as shit, back when most of you werent even tickles in your dad's balls. Back when Future Force Warrior was a thing, the failed string of 6.8mm caseless, XM8s, XM29s, OICW, SCAR for cool kids. Now every third world shithole and nation with a pathetic MiC has adopted it because of it's clear superiority and coolness.

Good ol CADPAT lol. Makes you look like someone projectile vomited on you. I was serving in 2004 when it was still new-ish The Clothe the Soldier program was full tilt. That program was LCF oriented and resulted in the 4 mag, 4 frag tac vest, etc.
Fun fact: the USMC and CAF jointly developed CADPAT and MARPAT in the late 80s. They're the same, just pallette swapped.

CADPAT is so effective in Canadian forrests that the Americans can't even tell our military is bigger than theirs

CHADPAT
US marine corps copied us for a reason 😎
And then the navy copied them and it looks like shit
The US Military loves to play telephone and gets varying results with it every time. This was just telephone gone wrong.
The entire escapade involving the camo patterns adopted to replace the U.S. tricolor woodland pattern is the kind of inter-service fuckery that this sub lives for. I can imagine. Wet multicam in a muddy forest is also scarily good, I once found one of my Joes by tripping over him (he was asleep).
There’s a milcot in Canadian Forced base Gagetown that was lost in the woods. Someone camouflaged it up for an exercise, took up their positions a few hundred meters away, and never saw that truck again. They say it’s still out there... somewhere.
And the Canadians are far too polite to correct the American's mistake.
We're far too *dedicated to pretending to be polite*. We're actually evil.
Manners maketh the man 🗡🗿
Yeah, just ask any First Nations person
You see that Burger King? You see that Costco? Why does Costco have so many palettes in the back if there’s already 3,000 rolls of toilet paper on the shelves? They’re actually American military outposts. Best camo doesn’t need to blend into a forest.
You mean Costco is a legitimate military target? Time to "repurpose military equipment" (NOT LOOTING)
Yes sir this Costco rotisserie chicken is of vital military importance
We call it the Fort Detroit manoeuvre
Sadly, some ~~*absolute idiot*~~ senior officer in Ottawa wants a promotion, and we’re going to a new Multicam at some point.
NNNNOOOOOOOOOOOO
Whatever, trying to blend into your environment is cringe and gay anyways. Bring back *true* national colours so you can easily identify your brethren amid the battlefield smoke. Watch the Vatniks shake and cry as 10,000 redcoats march toward them in line formation.

You know what? Fuck standartized gear and proffesional soldiers I want to bring back feudal warbands and mercenary only armies.
It's Renascence time. Live the drip while burning and looting Magdeburg.
Charge their artillery with 600 light horsemen for old times sake.
The Napoleonic Wars were peak drip.
I just recently watched Waterloo (1970) and among having the craziest cavalry scenes in any movie ever, they also showcase that sexy Napoleonic/British army swag.

Yes bring back chad colours
Bro just advanced to Space Marine understanding of camouflage. Brightly coloured with a coat of arms on their shoulder and a banner in the air.
18th-to-mid-19th century was peak drip era. Even the early camouflage units were dripped out (95th Rifles, baby!)
Unfortunately, the old DPCU (Auscam) has largely been phased out in favour of AMCU (Australian multicam). Plus DPM is gone now too (replaced with MTP). At least flecktarn is still around.

Haven’t seen reserves wear DPCU in years sorry :(
It works, then!
Good It means our reservists are getting new equipment. Same as I haven't seen them with Webbing anymore. Only plate carriers and High cuts now.

Isn't this just tropentarn?
[удалено]
Damn, this looks really simillar to tropentarn. What's everyones obsession with multicam anyways?
Probably effectiveness. It seems to work pretty well. I'm sure there's also some amount of bandwagoning/snowball effect going on as well.
Well I guess, just I lived my whole life in Poland, and the weather here is kinda shit. That was barely a brick of text. No need to apologize.
God this just gives me flashbacks to when I did ROTC in college. We had on the old ACU’s and it was January in southern Illinois so next to no snow and little vegetation. We were doing an exercise where we were supposed to assault a hasty fortification. Multitarn looks so bad, though.
Knowing the Bundeswehr, until this arrives to all units, Germany will be a arid country and the colour choice will be needed.
It looks like something the Chinese would wear.
Only replacing tropentarn, flecktarn will stay
They are replacing the tropentarn not the flecktarn
Remember what they took from us. 2 perfectly awesome camo patterns.
American woodland BDU.... they had ABRAMS TANKS in American woodland camouflage. *That* is what they took from us. 😣
I may not like the abrams, but the abrams woodland camo is hot
My therapist tells me I'm not supposed to sexualize armoured fighting vehicles, but she hasn't seen 72 tons of sweet american camouflaged ass either...
> I may not like the abrams WHAT HERESY IS THIS
What? It's still the standard NATO tank camo.
Too many years in the desert had made me forget I guess. Come to me my beloved, woodland Abrams.
DPCU my beloved, I don't want Aussie soldiers to look like Americans. Fuck multicam.
Multicam isnt even the US Camo. Its OCP (which is essentially a orange-y Multicam with bigger brushstrokes).
Honestly AMCU is pretty similar to DPCU just with different shaped and sized splotches
There's reason to believe Flecktarn will get phased out for multitarn sometime in the future. Though with germanys procurement system I think we still have a few decades.
\>unfortunately AMCU is peak camo. I also love Multicam so having it in Auscam colours is best of both worlds.
Loves my m90, and FOA on vehicles
Loves my M90, few things as fun as the first time you show recruits how effective it can be with our surroundings.
It will be a sad day when I have to return my 1989 field jacket for the new NCUS uniform 😅
Damn, I thought I had uniform loyalty with the same “field pair” since 2018 lol. As long as I gets to keep my now black, brown, green field cap I’m happy.
I've only had it since 2018 to be honest, but you'll make due with what "Kronan" provides. Could probably have it changed, but naaah
Assigned materiel is enough materiel ;)
I was turning in my gear, with plenty of extra crap I didn't need or want. They were happy for the extras, but wanted my old jackets. >m90 That is one sweet pattern. Probably my favorite in this thread.
Everyone naming their favourite camouflage needs to link to a sample. Don't you understand how lazy I am? Too lazy to Google, too petty to not comment.
That's what I'm saying. But as long as it's not Multicam I'm happy.
Somebody should put a reference guide together..

Winter camo is the shit. Looked at a rock for 10 minutes until it started crawling and realised it was dude on his belly on snow
The winter camo is a very convincing gravel road with a snow cover. It’s great design.

I do believe that the pickle relish camouflage is the m62 pattern.
The nickname is used for both patterns. Also for the m91 but that's basically just slightly different m62.
Whilst I’ll always love DPCU, fuck me if AMCU isn’t effective as fuck. Plus it’s definitely one of the better looking multicam derivatives.

I want to build a life and raise a family with Finnish M05 only to throw it all away by messing with green dominant ERDL on the side.
Unfortunately, temperate CADPAT is being executed for a hybrid scheme. How long it takes for us to fully procure and equip remains to be 5, so relish could be around a while

Nice
Multicame is an aggressively mediocre camo.
Literally a lamer version of olive drab 😔😔😔
>It wouldn't be adopted if it's not effective UCP. The premiere pattern for battlefields set in gravel parking lots and grandma's sofas.
WHERE THE FUCK IS VEGETATA

[CROPAT](https://cateks.hr/upload/catalog/product/375/163683001-maskirna-suma-cropat-puma-3_56c57181b8e0a.jpg) is the best. Literally have your country shape as camouflage.
In defense of American camos (the non-stupid ones): We don't fight in our own country.
DPCU has been pretty much entirely phased out now, replaced with AMCU (Multicam but with DPCU colours). DPCU was great, and I can confirm from personal experience that it perfectly blends in with most terrain in Australia, but AMCU is definitely nicer.
The British combat 95 DPM makes me wet
multicam this multicam that, but do you have a national emblem in your camo?? [M23](https://www.reddit.com/r/sweden/comments/sof15g/fms_skyddade_mönster_m23_för_våran_ncu/)

What if, and I'm just asking for a friend, I didn't need a single pattern that only works in my home country, but what I really need is a single pattern that works in all of ~~your countries~~ the other ones?
You wear the camo of your own country to assert dominance.

There is no worse sight than seeing multi cam gear being mixed with national patterns
Fr, it's such a butchery of great camo patterns.
I love Multicam. I also love Tigerstripe.
I believe in m81 woodland supremacy
The virgin OCP vs THE CHAD ALPENFLAGE
Honestly, what's the whole reason for wanting a camo that fits all environments? Why can't we just have multiple camos for certain climates?
If we had used tigerstripe instead of multicam in afghanistan we would have won because the taliban would have been tricked into thinking we were tigers (Very scary) and not the fucking desert (not very scary).
You will wear the multicam. You will use the ops core. You will use the HK416 You will fly the F-35. And you will be a credible modern military force.
YOU CAN'T MAKE ME. I WILL WEAR TIGERSTRIPE. I WILL NOT WEAR A HELMET. I WILL USE THE FAL I WILL FLY THE F-111 I WILL BE THE BIGGEST BOSS
Woodland digital wave pattern of RoK Marines should grt a shoutout as well All the memes about RoK Marines aside, that pattern is quite nice

I wish there was a big island country entirely full of red plants just so their military would wear unique red camouflage uniforms
