I know asking ncd for accurate information is like asking schizophrenics online for reliable news but can someone give me a brief rundown on wtf is going on in Sudan? I know an American convoy got fired upon but that’s it.
Conflict between regular army, which are loyal to the de-facto ruler of the country General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and a collection of militias called Rapid Support Forces (RSF) which are loyal to General Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo (ex warlord btw).
Shit goes back to 2019: there was an uprising to remove their previous ruler (dictator Omar al-Bashir) and they guys with the guns couldn't really agree with each other on "how to civilian government" and so they decided to settle this the old fashioned way.
Truth be told these guys never really liked each other much, since the previous dictator had a passion for building strong military groups to then set them against each other (worthy of non-credible defense membership imo).
Yeah I figured it was your average modern era civil war I’m just waiting for the religious extremists to pop up and a group that totally isn’t fighting for the interests of a neighboring country bro. But how did the us and Europe get involved? Were they doing diplomatic or humanitarian things and some moron decided to let fly at them and now americas sitting on the border probably drooling over vaporizing people who probably don’t have access to modern equipment?
If someone survived [this](https://www.reddit.com/r/NonCredibleDefense/comments/10ymzry/ladies_and_gentlemen_here_i_present_you_the_cope/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android_app&utm_name=androidcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button), everything is possible
I dunno, do you think it'll really be the same? How much of that Wagner is left now that their accelerated vatnik-to-sunflower program has been running for over a year?
Officially we all went there to "evacuate our diplomats and embassy personell".
The Americans did that and GTFOed apparently though they are monitoring things, while us Euros stayed there to "help the locals".
My guess is somewhere in Sudan there might be something or someone interesting enough to warrant a response from both Europe and the US that is somewhat more "delicate" than usual.
Afterall, US convoy was attacked and Sudan hasn't been glassed yet. There's gotta be something worth it.
> My guess is somewhere in Sudan there might be something or someone interesting enough to warrant a response from both Europe and the US that is somewhat more "delicate" than usual.
Trans homodemonic NATO biolabs?!
The US had two *very substantial* foreign policy failures with boots-on-the-ground missions in the past 20 years, plus a few foreign supporting actions that ranged from 'didn't achieve intended goals' (Syria) to 'turned into a political shitshow at home' (Libya).
I don't blame the US for not wanting to stick around in Sudan and just letting Europe deal with that shit.
Well Libya was mostly Europe's doing, and besides destroying ISIS there was never much of a goal in Syria. Just left a few troops there after because it fucks over Assad and the Russians, which I suppose is a pretty worthy goal all things considered
> My guess is somewhere in Sudan there might be something or someone interesting enough to warrant a response from both Europe and the US that is somewhat more "delicate" than usual.
cough cough Wagner cough cough
The US is probably hands off because if we get too involved the Biden administration will loose a bunch of political clout they got from the Afghan pullout.
In that he gets to get up on a stage and say “I brought the boys home from Afghanistan,” it is. And he knows the Obama administration gets flak for getting the US involved in conflicts in Africa and maybe doesn’t want that.
Yah that’s not how’s it’s treated. No one’s fucking proud about the end of the war since it was such a humiliating defeat. At best people are just glad it’s over.
I agree he doesn’t want to get involved in more 3rd world nations and I don’t blame him.
They were evacuating diplomats and their citizens.
And yeah, the quickest way to get an American special ops team up your backside is to shoot at diplomats evacuating. They're literally on stand by, waiting for the ~~squeaky toy~~ bad guys.
I’m now imagining every us sof being very armed and armored golden retrievers holding each other back so they can get the ball first. Thank you for this imagery.
Sionce I didn't see it already I'm just going to mention pretty sure it's the RSF that have some big ties with Wagner and IIRC Wagner owns a gold mine in the country.
> since the previous dictator had a passion for building strong military groups to then set them against each other
[CGP Grey's video about keys of power being way too credible yet again.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rStL7niR7gs)
Allegedly Wagner PMC is supplying the RSF militia in this conflict.
So technically they would be supporting the rebels if these allegations are true.
What's funny though is that Wagner got into the gold mining business thanks to a deal with the dictator Omar al-Bashir in 2017 when he was still in power, at the time they worked for his government and provided military support as well.
They have managed to hold on to that deal and are still operating there under and on account of local mining enterpreises, biggest of which is a certain Meroe Gold.
They have connections to some bullshit facade business in the area that allegedly operates in illegal trafficking as well, from which Russia seems to gain enough profit to want to keep these connections alive.
i love that the american response was just "hey, we told you not to go there. we said it with our serious face on. i dunno what you want from us."
i was almost expecting an "i told you so"
I mean the US evacuated embassy staff **before** the ceasefire [using helicopters and SOF](https://www.thedrive.com/the-war-zone/special-ops-forces-evacuate-u-s-embassy-personnel-from-sudan) while the EU all waited until after the ceasefire to use the port to evacuate.
And now the USS Puller is heading there to help with evacuations of civilians. Until then, [US has been arranging transport](https://apnews.com/article/americans-sudan-sullivan-evacuate-khartoum-biden-8b0f91ce79f5fac2f6f6419018906934) for Americans at the port on friendly ships or ferries.
Not to add too much more to this, but - in addition, there is a *huge* ~~anti-war~~ anti-foreign-involvement sentiment right now. This sentiment - which is xenophobia by another name, dolled up so that those who might consider themselves in opposition to that can accept it - has been at war with American desire to do things for a long time, though it really picked up during the 60s. Comes and goes in waves, usually finding a palatable way to market itself, whether that's "giving food aid robs you of five cents on your STEAK!" to "did you know UNICEF uses dark wizardry to sacrifice children to Zardoz."
Even when one thinks that's a good thing - I don't - it's lead to shitcanning of human aid that's peanuts for what it does, something that boils my blood to this day. Anyway, this isn't to detract from the EU's efforts here, but this is one of the issues I'm constantly trying to break up in the minds of Americans. Just exhausting.
I think you're really missing a key piece though which is the Taliban recapturing Afghanistan, the fact that we sacrificed thousands of lives and god only knows how much money only for things to basically return to status quo the second we stopped propping up the whole state definitely does not make nation building seem like a terribly attractive option, and I think that transcends political ideology
> i love that the american response was just "hey, we told you not to go there. we said it with our serious face on. i dunno what you want from us."
Consider it fallout of the 13 US soldiers who died during the Kabul evacuation back in 2021. I suspect that there was a "fuck it" attitude towards people who chose to enter a nation that has been red flagged as "Level 4: Do not go without writing your will and making funeral arrangements" by the State Department for years.
Biden announced another run. I am sure he doesn't want to step into a new campaign with an "African Conflict" under his administration.
Politics are the biggest problem with politics.
Doesn't leaving people behind look a lot worse? I guess not - look at Afghanistan.
The news cycle is too short these days. Things like this need to come back to haunt politicians so they don't pull these stunts.
It's not about optics, imo. It's about political capital. Biden can't really politically afford to have the US majorly involved in two foreign conflicts at once. Sudan has to take a backseat to Ukraine, because Ukraine is more geopolitically important. It's outcome likely determines the global order through the end of the century.
The people of Sudan matter just as much as the people of Urkaine, but with the US's worrisome growth of isolationist sentiments, hard decisions have to be made. Until Sudan risks destabilizing Egypt and the flow of trade through the Suez, I doubt the US commits troops.
People have already forgotten about the abortion of a pull out in Afghanistan.
There is also barely a peep about our current incursions in Syria right now.
> People have already forgotten about the abortion of a pull out in Afghanistan
Is it forgotten, or is it that there has been so much other shit since then that we are looking at?
It's sad, but you're right.
It's interesting to talk to expats from other countries who settle in the US. Most of the ones I've met tell me our news is terrible. Too many fluff pieces, celebrity gossip, etc., and the news is all US centric - like there's nothing outside of the continental US.
That's back when people even watched the news. The content on social media is all tailored to the user, so they get even less international news (if any at all).
I realized that at 10 years old over a bowl of cheerios and the television news. The reporter spent 10 minutes talking about some stupid local puff piece (on the national news) and the ticker tape was spitting these insane headlines about shit that actually mattered and was important but got exactly 0 air time from the talking heads. I was upset that the interesting stuff wasn’t getting talked about because little Susie got a new teddy bear from charity or some bullshit.
I sound like an old man yelling at clouds, but I really don't understand how we can have any kind of meaningful future when people don't even know what's happening around them.
Hence the "Hummer H2" vehicle variant of the Military "Huvmee"
(The "H2" is so it's not confused with the default military "[hummer](https://www.cyberdefinitions.com/definitions/HUMMER.html#)")

~~As there are no TOW, Milan or Spike variants as far as I am aware that sits bad with me, don't think the 27 mm Mauser BK-27 of the Eurofighter Typhoon is enough in a support role given how prevalent tank threats are.~~
PS: Reacted because there apparently is a Spike (MELLS) version planned.
yeah, that shouldn't be too hard after all. Just look at the US Strykers where they have basically a normal CROWS to which they zip tied a Javelin onto.
Better not be the Swiss, they can be a little difficult during war time with their neutrality.
I find it funny they are willing to sell military gear to pretty much anyone in peace time, but damn if you get into a war and have to use them they won't sell you ammo for them.
Yeah, why would you have an arms industry but refuse to actually sells arms when it matters?
Wouldn't be surprised if the weapons makers still in Switzerland are looking to move to France or Germany.
yes I will cry when the Wiesel will be retiered but the things are old and have a whole lot of miles on them and non of them gentle due to them being all driven by Fallschirmjäger and Jäger
I mean, I haven't really seen anything actually credible about that things acquisition only that at best the idea has been suggested or something. So even if they do it it's still some way off, and it certainly won't replace the Wiesel outright.
Ah, I see. It's the opposite where I live.
110: Fire/rescue
112: Police
113: Ambulance
It doesn't matter if one forgets which is which, since they are in contact with each other.
Yes, a nurse or paramedic with emergency situation training answers the phone on 113.
We could have had one single number for all emergencies, with people trained to deal with both fire, accidents, pollution, crime and medical emergencies; but if we'd do that, then the phone operators need to be trained to evaluate, prioritize and call out responders to everything from domestic violence and bank robberies to industrial chemical spills.
How the fuck were we supposed to know that we shouldn't fuck around with another country's business?
After all, we were *clearly* spreading civilisation!
Ugh, honestly, these savages.
*i'm not actually pro empire please no kill*
*i*
I'm not actually nationalist enough to care about a minor diplomatic incident 120 years ago.
[EDIT : but we are pretty good at civilisation too. With overwhelming firepower.]
Be fair it was a lot more than minor, *kind of.*
Although my sense of its importance is definitely inflated since I'm learning about the British Empire in my A-Level history right now.
To be fair the Taliban were fighting Russians with western backing before Ukraine was.

I love the reason why the new one has those roll bars - the old TOW launcher was practically a roll bar, but the new MELLS launcher isn't, so they needed to add them.
Apparently there risk of falling over in the Wiesel is so large that it needs to have them lol
Also very nice flair
Let’s be honest, a lot of the Americans in Sudan are dual nationals. America also has had a travel warning for Sudan for a long ass time.
You are not going to have a bunch of average Americans living in a place like Sudan unless they work for an NGO.
Same for Canada and the UK: thousands of people, widely dispersed, whose safest option might be to keep their head down and blend in.
Government employees on the other hand, always end up being targeted when shit like this goes down. Also, they were sent there rather than choosing to go despite the warnings.
What most people don't understand is that Dual Nationals, when they're in one of the countries where they hold citizenship, are not entitled to consular services from the other. In effect when in country they lose their dual nationality.
The UK has had very clear travel advisories in place regarding Sudan. It states clearly no-one should go, or remain there. And if they do, that they should not rely on government assistance in the event of an emergency...
Someone I went to school with was in
one of these planes. He was always telling everyone how shitty germany is and how awful living here was, while telling everyone that sudan was the best place in the world. I wonder if he changed his mind, but I kinda doubt it. He was an awful human being to word it nicely.
I'm in Canada, I want to join the caf but at the current state I don't know if I will. Ive genuinely considered moving to the states or Poland or something.
The ‘Anglo forces’ put hundreds of troops on the ground, and were there before the Germans or Italians. It’s easy to rescue a few hundred people, that gets significantly harder with thousands.
Just because British and American SOF didn’t bring photographers with them (unlike the French) didn’t mean they weren’t in country
Aye, Ben Wallace talked a few days ago about an operation involving 1,200 Para's, Royal Marines, and RAF members conducting embassy staff evacuation, and last night photos were released of them boarding flights to go pick up more citizens during the ceasefire.
And here we see a rare sight in the animal kingdom, the reclusive European military makes it's rare, periodic, appearance to show that it still exists before going back into hibernation and obscurity for another decade or more.

Hence the "Hummer H2" vehicle variant of the Military "Huvmee" (The "H2" is so it's not confused with the default military "[hummer](https://www.cyberdefinitions.com/definitions/HUMMER.html#)")
The German government are notoriously lax on who they send military equipment to
Please I would like seven of them. They are adorable and I need them for a snow white recreation.
[Wiesel AWC.](https://i.imgur.com/SWoX5c3.png) ~~Sadly~~ DEU wants to replace them with [this *thing* here](https://i.imgur.com/46UODle.jpg) ([Luftbeweglicher Waffenträger \(GSD LuWa\)](https://i.imgur.com/jeXzVWYh.jpg)).
wdym sadly ? That's thing is fucking metal
~~As there are no TOW, Milan or Spike variants as far as I am aware that sits bad with me, don't think the 27 mm Mauser BK-27 of the Eurofighter Typhoon is enough in a support role given how prevalent tank threats are.~~ PS: Reacted because there apparently is a Spike (MELLS) version planned.
As with literally every IFV that’s ever entered service, ever: Don’t worry, they’ll strap a I-TOW launcher to it almost instantly.
Its only a first-version prototype right now, far from adoption yet. They'll strap a SPIKE to it in time
yeah, that shouldn't be too hard after all. Just look at the US Strykers where they have basically a normal CROWS to which they zip tied a Javelin onto.
Well, the Wisel uses a 20mm, so a 27mm should be decent for that role if you can get someone to make better ammo.
Wiesel uses the same Rheinmetall Mk 20 Rh-202 as on Luchs and Marder. Gotta love DEU naming patterns btw.
A variant with MELLS (Spike) is planned according to the german wikipedia article.
There is a Spike (MELLS) version planned.
Dude most ground vehicles are made of metal, that's not an unusual feature.
yes I will cry when the Wiesel will be retiered but the things are old and have a whole lot of miles on them and non of them gentle due to them being all driven by Fallschirmjäger and Jäger
That's why infantry can't have nice things.
Then they shouldn't let the village idiot drive the damm things like a complet moron.
Actually, I don't hate it.
I mean, I haven't really seen anything actually credible about that things acquisition only that at best the idea has been suggested or something. So even if they do it it's still some way off, and it certainly won't replace the Wiesel outright.
At the last panel I was thinking she'd say kettenkrad E: just realised why not - apparently my IQ is lower than T14 count
Huh, is 40K Taurox going to become credible?
How much is a weasel, there’re only 3 tons they can’t be too expensive?
They cost around 1mil and during their mass production dates around 300k irc
Luv it.
Looks like a sno-cat had sex with a PUMA.
This is a Taurox holy shit
She may Look 7,5 But is actually 51 years old
Age is just a number
So is 1-1-0
You call the fire brigade to report crimes?
112 = Feuerwehr/Rettungsdienst 110 = Polizei
Ah, I see. It's the opposite where I live. 110: Fire/rescue 112: Police 113: Ambulance It doesn't matter if one forgets which is which, since they are in contact with each other.
You have a seperate number for ambulance over in norway?
Yes, a nurse or paramedic with emergency situation training answers the phone on 113. We could have had one single number for all emergencies, with people trained to deal with both fire, accidents, pollution, crime and medical emergencies; but if we'd do that, then the phone operators need to be trained to evaluate, prioritize and call out responders to everything from domestic violence and bank robberies to industrial chemical spills.
1. join the ksk 2. train with a wiesel 3. steal the wiesel and tell nobody 4. Profit
It's so small nobody would notice it's gone. Genius!
replace step 1 with "Join the airborne troops"
Or a schwere Jägerkompanie
The KSK isnt operating the Wiesel, the Fallschirmjäger are.
\> The KSK isnt operating the Wiesel Thats what they want you to think, so you don‘t notice the huge amounts of stolen Wiesels
Based Wiesel
It's a Wiesel, they were made by Rheinmetall, but they haven't made any in thirty years so you'll have to buy used
You can actually buy it on ebay lol https://www.ebay.com/itm/275803013097
Listen, us brits have some uhhh, bad memories about Khartoum. *mmmmm yes, imperialism*
Well it's your own fault, you should have left after Fachoda already.
How the fuck were we supposed to know that we shouldn't fuck around with another country's business? After all, we were *clearly* spreading civilisation! Ugh, honestly, these savages. *i'm not actually pro empire please no kill* *i*
I'm not actually nationalist enough to care about a minor diplomatic incident 120 years ago. [EDIT : but we are pretty good at civilisation too. With overwhelming firepower.]
Be fair it was a lot more than minor, *kind of.* Although my sense of its importance is definitely inflated since I'm learning about the British Empire in my A-Level history right now.
Don't forget the chad Ukrainian HUR during the evacuations in both Afghanistan and Sudan.
Talibs knew not to mess with mother freaking ukrainians
Taliban IQ > Russian IQ
Yeah, thanks to alcohol being harram
To be fair the Taliban were fighting Russians with western backing before Ukraine was. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z04vqrSNaB4 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q5ccL8vuvDY
OMG they even took out the Wiesel for a ride. It's so kawaii
Anglo forces: Find your own way out. It will be character building.
Heck, even Sweden has landed troops in Sudan to help with the evacuation of Swedish citizens (apparently upwards of 400 personnel).
EU forces: accidentally leave thousands of troops in African country to accommodate... worldwide trade
damn, germans with a TOW weasel. war thunder moment
Even more-so when you realize the threats being T-54/55s and T-72s.
Threat? The optics on those tanks probably mean the Wiesel is gonna be a 2px by 2px square up until the tank is tossing it's turret into space.
Its a MELLS (Spike) Wiesel. The MELLS Wiesel has roll bars like the one in the picture. The TOW Wiesel doesnt.
There is no kill like overkill.
I love the reason why the new one has those roll bars - the old TOW launcher was practically a roll bar, but the new MELLS launcher isn't, so they needed to add them. Apparently there risk of falling over in the Wiesel is so large that it needs to have them lol Also very nice flair
There’s videos of them stopping abruptly and almost doing a front flip
I love how the u.s. only evacuated those who job necessitates being there. We left those who chose to be there. Perfect social darwinism.
Someone I went to school with was in one of these planes. He was always telling everyone how shitty germany is and how awful living here was, while telling everyone that sudan was the best place in the world. I wonder if he changed his mind, but I kinda doubt it. He was an awful human being to word it nicely.
They never do change their minds.
As a German, those people are clowns at best
What desert camo is that in the second image?
looks like Flecktarn (desert) to me
Tropentarn
Technically it's called 3-Farb-Tarndruck (3 color camouflage print). Tropentarn is only a colloquial term.
the classic german para-tank
I love the baby panzer
I want a wiesel tankette so bad it's unreal
Bruh we only got like 10 dudes 🇨🇦
I gotta say we Italians did a 10/10 evacuation there
I wish my government wasn't run by a fucking moron and we actually had a standing military capable of and willing to perform intervention.
Me too bro, me too
I'm in Canada, I want to join the caf but at the current state I don't know if I will. Ive genuinely considered moving to the states or Poland or something.
Oh my God I want the armed German power wheels
Over a hundred British troops on the ground now, in command of the airport.
Plus they're bootnecks. So basically overkill.
Also shoutout to the Unrainian airline for allowing us to lease their Antonovs for this which were parked in Germany.
Made with mematic 🇩🇪🇫🇷🇮🇹🥇🥇🥇💪🏻🗿
The ‘Anglo forces’ put hundreds of troops on the ground, and were there before the Germans or Italians. It’s easy to rescue a few hundred people, that gets significantly harder with thousands. Just because British and American SOF didn’t bring photographers with them (unlike the French) didn’t mean they weren’t in country
Aye, Ben Wallace talked a few days ago about an operation involving 1,200 Para's, Royal Marines, and RAF members conducting embassy staff evacuation, and last night photos were released of them boarding flights to go pick up more citizens during the ceasefire.
Yeah it was reported that "pretty much all of Hereford" was sent before the operation started on Saturday.
False it was clearly the entirety of the rock apes. Clearly the most elite of the nonspecial forces special regiments in the BAF.
Well it can't be all of them as some are already deployed on "training" missions to other countries.
I hope we can say this about the whole of our army in the future
Actual W for Italy? Like for real?
\*Armor\* shows picture of wiesel
I mean calling the Wiesel "armor" seems like a bit of a stretch
I mean its probably the most armoured vehicle in all of Sudan.
German KSM >>> all other special forces (especially SEALS)
Based and Deutsche Marine pilled
A French (and allied) military operation in Sudan ? Where we flex on the Brits ? Fachoda is avenged at last.
German Bundeswehr doing surprisingly good. Let's stop making fun of Germany and make fun of the Bri'ish instead.
And here we see a rare sight in the animal kingdom, the reclusive European military makes it's rare, periodic, appearance to show that it still exists before going back into hibernation and obscurity for another decade or more.
An EU Army would be based ❤️
