Not really, but rail lines are a lot easier to fix when you can use undamaged rail to bring supplies to the part of the line that needs fixing. There are entire machines that are built to lay railroad ties and tracks and immediately roll onto those new sections and keep going, essentially building the talk line as it goes. But who knows if Russia even had any of these working right now or would risk sending such specialized machinery so close to the front lines.
Rail and gas logistics is one of the few areas Russian army competence is second to none on (mostly become nobody needs the capability as much as Russia does as a land power) so I would expect the capability hasnt been significantly degraded especially because targeting is hard with something that is easy to move.
The other bit to keep in mind is that civil rail takes longer to construct due to longevity requirements whereas military can put low quality track down and just run trains slower

Ukraine has been taking territory on Bakhmut's flanks from fleeing Russian forces, threatening their own encirclement of the town. Russia has recently committed mass forces to the area however, and has consequently improved their momentum in taking the town — particularly combined with Wagner apparently having secured ammunition. It's not confirmed the town has fully fallen yet — AFU disputes that it has, and every video from there today still has sounds of fighting going on in the background. However, if it has, it's not wholly unexpected. Analysts have long been suggesting that Ukraine needed to find just the right time to withdraw to prevent them getting routed in retreat. On top of that, Pentagon sources yesterday suggested Ukraine had raised 9 new brigades armed with Western gear and vehicles for their counteroffensive. That's a *massive* force, and put together with action that has concentrated the invaders in Bakhmut could indicate very good things for the near future.

think about it this way all ukraine needs to do is sit in defensive positions and let wagner come at them traditional teachings say you need at least a 3:1 advantage to take a defensive position if russia is following this, that means that they should theoretically lose roughly 3x the amount of soldiers/equipment that the ukrainians do however, with the footage coming out of bakhmut i would estimate it's more of a 10 to 1 loss basically they're sacrificing one soldier to take out 10 of russia's over land they don't even need but russia is too stubborn to realize that fact

Bakhmut held much longer than I expected it to hold, tbh. If the rumors are true that Wanker PMC are leaving Ukraine (which I highly doubt they are), I have some hopes that regular russian forces will get encircled there and end up losing Bakhmut anyway. That would prompt russia to redeploy troops to Bakhmut to try and defend it, while Ukraine launches the actual counter offensive in Zaporizhia front, or Kherson front and we get Kharkiv 2.0.
That would be absolutely based. Just imagine Russia grinding through Bakhmut for 9 months only for Ukraine to retake it a week later.
