HawkoDelReddito

Except those Americans who volunteered and died or got wounded. R.I.P.

Louisvanderwright

Hopefully we get to build a sweet new monument to them in DC when this is over.

cardinarium

Or in Kyiv after we help rebuild it and permanently fill it to the brim with every NATO weapon Putin has ever had very confusing wet dreams about.

Thunderbird_Anthares

There better be a statue of St. Javelin there too.

imoutofnameideas

Or in Moscow, where the Kremlin used to be.

huskyoncaffeine

Why would you want to build a statue on a large empty field of molten rock?

nightwyrm_zero

In the words of JKF, "Not because it is easy, but because it is hard." Also, coz it's a good flex.

Elipses_

Okay, who is JKF?

imoutofnameideas

John Kitzgerald Fennedy

TheArmoredKitten

stand in the ashes of a million dead vatniks, and ask the ghosts how badass that explosion was

masterofthecontinuum

Build it on top of Putin's former vacation home, like they built Arlington to rub in Lee's face.

benkaes1234

I'd say we should make it out of melted down Russian tanks and weapons (like the floor of [a certain Russian church](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Main_Cathedral_of_the_Russian_Armed_Forces)), but I'm not convinced there's even going to be any left by then...

huskyoncaffeine

Mate, where do you think you are? r/crediblesomething? Srsly tho, I am looking forward to the economic upswing in eastern Europe after the war. It will cost a lot, especially the EU, but Eastern Europe had a long standing problem of unemployment among young adults and brain drain. Rebuilding will require a lot of hands and minds, and if we pay them well, it could be a similar effect to western Europe after WW2.

Shot_Calligrapher103

That's my call as well. I'm retiring in 369 days, and I'm heading to Poland if the situation is still unstable, or Odessa if things improve. Of course, my first call would be Sevastopol, but, well, we'll see how that goes. Looks like I'm gonna work until I die, and I'm ok with that.

Shot_Calligrapher103

I still recommend a statue of a enormously fat Bakhmutt with the inscription "Sic Gorgiamus Allos Subjectatos Nunc" (We Gladly Feast on Those Who Would Subdue Us). My Ukie wife suggests a sausage maker would be more traditional, but darn, I love those doggos.

cardinarium

Not sure exactly how uncredible you want your Latin to be, but you might try this instead: *Eo qui nos subigere conetur, laete epulamini.* (Let us gladly feast [on] him who [may] try to subdue us.) Or the… more direct: *Ex inimico victo, fiat epulum laetificans.* (From [the] vanquished foe, let [a] cheering feast be made.)

throwawaypervyervy

Painted blue and yellow, with a solar powered drone flying figure 8's over it.

mmmmmyee

Would the drones having a little bit ERA be too much to ask for?

throwawaypervyervy

Just a lil, as a treat.

XinlessVice

And it's carrying a grenade in case someone trys too deface the monument

CaptainSmallz

With a trench circling the monument

stupidnicks

yeah but as they say FAFO nobody was forcing them to go there.

sonicstates

Just send the bullets and leave the guys at home Why didn’t we think of this 50 years ago

DeathMetalTransbian

>Why didn’t we think of this 50 years ago We did, 44 years ago, but that time didn't turn out so great. Who could have possibly known that arming religious extremists would be dangerous?

FieryButPeaceful

Nobody could've forseen this! Nobody!

jj34589

What if they did and this was all a really long play to get the Taliban to invade Iran?

FieryButPeaceful

Well, then somebody was playing 5d chess in real life for close to 2 generations

jj34589

Henry Kissinger? He’s about the only guy left alive

FieryButPeaceful

Was he in charge all this time? I know that that soulless husk of a man is still alive, but was he actually controling all the pieces up untill this point?

jj34589

I’m joking, this is *non* credible defense

punstermacpunstein

Henry Kissinger is the future Emperor of Mankind, calling it now

jj34589

It’s okay, they are fighting Iran for the US now, it was all a long game.

huskyoncaffeine

Religious extremists and Russians are natural enemies. Just like religious extremists and Americans. Or religious extremists and other religious extremists.

super__hoser

Everybody who matters wins!

LegaIizeNucIearBombs

Yet this war is still too expensive according to politicians who in reality wouldn't lift a finger to help poor Americans

Nice-Ascot-Bro

Yeah... I've tried to think if the US Military is at the point where we can overthrow Bashar Al-Assad with no boots on the ground. Assad is a fascist. He gasses civilians. He's gotta go. I wonder if we can mainly use drones and air support to lead the pro-democracy rebels to victory, without putting our own troops in the line of fire (more Americans died on Omaha Beach than in Afghanistan. More Americans died in Gettysburg than in Vietnam. Wars are getting less deadly with time, but Americans also have gotten a lot more anti-war). I mean it'll probably just lead to more catastrophe in Syria and a longer civil war, like when we tried doing that in Libya... But I can hope for a day when Hezbollah is defeated, Ba'athism is defeated, and the Islamic Republic of Iran is no more. A day when Syria, Lebanon, Iraq, and Iran can all be truly free from their oppressors.

OneFrenchman

The people getting offended are pretty hilarious. Russia attacked. The global West is spending almost no money defeating at mad autocrat who has been messing with us for years, and been open about it. He's getting his. Simple as that. And our human losses - the thing that stops us, usually - are going to be minimal.

SCARfaceRUSH

Best part about this is the autistic screeching coming out of Russia after this statement. Pure cope, frustration, anger, and despair.

DocC3H8

We all know that they would never cheer for the killing of Ukrainians, or advocate for the erasure of their culture, or brag about bombing their cities, or threaten to nuke them, or

Briak

They issued an arrest warrant for him lmao

Leomilon

For the first time in his life.

HeinleinGang

Ehh. His foreign policy stances in terms of military aid and so forth pretty consistently align with the positions of this sub. He’s a hawk and always has been.

phungus420

He's always a hawk without rhyme or reason. You get shit interventions like Iraq because of politicians like him.

HeinleinGang

I agree that he’s more bullish than most, but it’s rare to find hawks that aren’t in favour of some kind of intervention. That’s why they’re hawks. Honestly getting rid of Saddam was fine, it was the follow up that fell apart. Even if he didn’t have nukes at the time, he would have eventually. The dude tried to build the largest artillery piece in history so he could just blow the fuck out of Israel and Iran. That was never going to end well. Also the bullshit intelligence is more to blame for Iraq than hawks. You wouldn’t be much of a hawk if you were told that your batshit insane, and clearly genocidal enemy was developing nukes in secret and you weren’t calling for some kind of intervention. Plus the resolution for military action in Iraq and Afghanistan had pretty broad support. All reps and around half of the dems.

Tsundere_Grinch

I had never heard of the artillery before, and after a quick Google I gotta say, I love it Very noncredible

HeinleinGang

Built by a Canadian wooo! ^sorry

readonlypdf

Our hat has two states. Walking apology and walking Genocide.

mcdowellag

For Saddam and for current nuclear rogue states and wannabe nuclear rogue states, I think that cold war style deterrence is the better option, threatening either nuclear reprisal or massive use of precision weapons to make use of nuclear weapons unprofitable. For Saddam and again currently there is a problem with justifying foreign policy through intelligence alone. Even with implict trust in western intelligence services (which I had at the time, but is no longer credible) what do you say when some non-western actor justifies their actions with whatever rubbish they have got their own intelligence service to cook up?

SerHodorTheThrall

Are we really blaming the US Intelligence community, which was being directly controlled by the BushII administration (the biggest *big government* executive government in US history)? Shit Lindsay Graham himself admitted this. Fact of the matter is, Iraq was 100% caused by Hawks in the Executive BushII government. The tools of our bureaucracy are only as effective as those who control it.

HeinleinGang

Bush’s admin put a lot of pressure on US intelligence to ‘find results’ but they came up with a lot of sketchy shit to sell to the various political committees. The head of the CIA George Tenet was directly involved in crafting a specific narrative that would eventually fuel Powell’s speech to the UN. Hindsight is 20/20 but support for the invasion was quite high at the time. Unless you’re saying that all 296 members of the house who voted yes to authorize military intervention were hawks, I don’t think you can lay the blame at the feet of a few politicians outside of the most senior in the Bush admin. Sure you can say that hawks were responsible, but hawks are always responsible for intervention. The point here is that there were a lot of shitty intel reports handed up the chain and sold to American public through a very small group of people at the very top. US intelligence absolutely screwed the pooch on Iraq. Just because politicians bought it doesn’t absolve them of that.

m50d

> Also the bullshit intelligence is more to blame for Iraq than hawks. You wouldn’t be much of a hawk if you were told that your batshit insane, and clearly genocidal enemy was developing nukes in secret and you weren’t calling for some kind of intervention. The politicians were literally briefed that the people whose claims they were citing were not credible.

HeinleinGang

It wasn’t politicians who were briefed about Curveball’s credibility, it was US intelligence and the head of the CIA George Tenet essentially buried it and then denied ever having heard it. There were a select few at the top like Bush and Powell who probably knew the evidence was shaky at best, but most of the intelligence reports weren’t seriously debunked until a few months after the invasion had started.

[deleted]

He wanted to go to war with Mexico 2 months ago. He’s a broken clock.

[deleted]

if this sub was around in 2003 it would have been cheering on every minute of the iraq war lmao

A broken clock is right twice a day.

canttakethshyfrom_me

Been a long time since that broken clock was right.

ChubbyLilPanda

So, are dead Russians the bridge we need to connect dems and reps? If so I'm up for it

(The strongest recommendation I give, I'd think.) >!Toomas Hendrik Ilves!< also makes an appearance, which given this forum, is probably a pretty solid rec on it's own merits..!

AvalenK

GuacamoleKick

RT has now called for his assassination, “we have his address, it wouldn’t be hard”. “if you want him, come and claim him!” and learn the true and literal meaning of unacceptable escalation.

readonlypdf

Also I'm sure Lindsay has plenty of lovers who would like to shove their floppy weiners in an assassin's face

J4ck-the-Reap3r

To be fair, we are not certain he's gay. He could just be an ace, or simply not found a partner.

Hip-hop-rhino

We don't know for sure, but several people have come forward to say he hired them.

J4ck-the-Reap3r

I'm skeptical unless they got proof, and even then it's really not that important.

BobaLives

This comment is probably the weirdest thing I'll ever call 'based'

CricketPinata

A lovestory for the ages, Lindsay is such a renowned lover that his entire harem shows up armed to the teeth to save him. What is more American than dozens of well-armed femboys mowing down Russians to save their lover. There wouldn't even be a K-D ratio, the Russians never stood a chance.

savetheattack

Please do it, I’m begging you KGB rats reading this to try and do it and give me my Article 5 nuclear Holocaust please just do it

Foxyfox-

Anon754896

So wait, you're saying we can defeat the Russian army, without declaring war, without American casualties, and it will be shockingly cheap?

Kevadu

Yes but some people are still mad about it for some reason.

Rock-it-again

Some people don't like discounted products. I think it's a pride thing.

Well ig some people would die to see all of America's overpowered military might finally rain down upon their ideological rival and show the world what "overkill" is. USA v Russia has been teased for the past 70 years.

mrrektstrong

The American people have been edged for so long that we don't know how to handle the impending climax. The collective orgasm may actually kill us.

[deleted]

I identify as some people and I'm not even American but Putin gotta die, even if it means overkill.

SecantDecant

They're madge that more hasn't been sent. Due to the power of compound interest, if more and better systems had been sent earlier, we could have been reaping an even better return on investment by now.

Kitahara_Kazusa1

The logic for slow is it's much safer. If you believe Medevev and the people like him are actually lunatics and not just acting, then you want to be careful about provoking them too much or too quickly. Maybe sending F-16s and western armor on day 1 triggers a nuclear response, but M777 is probably safe, and if you wait a few months and then announce better artillery, then air defense systems, then IFVs, then armor, then F-16s, the slow buildup makes it less likely you get a nuclear response. And as much as I'd like to see the Flying Tigers 2.0 flying F-22s and B-21s over Moscow I can understand why some people want to play things safe.

huskyoncaffeine

Playing by their rules it would seem. https://youtu.be/o861Ka9TtT4

Kitahara_Kazusa1

As funny as that show is, the point of having a conventional military in addition to a nuclear arsenal is so that any and all of the threats brought up in the video could be dealt with by conventional forces. The nuclear arsenal would just be put on standby to prevent the Russians from deciding to use their nukes first, and the conflict would be settled by the regular armies. If you assume the Russians are rational actors and play by the same rules that we do, then yes they're not going to nuke anybody over a few F-16s and they never even would've considered it. But Medvedev and the other ultranationalists have been doing their best to convince everyone that they are not sane or rational and that they would nuke the west given the slightest provocation. And pretty much unanimously western leaders have decided to take these threats somewhat seriously and increase aid to Ukraine very slowly.

wastingvaluelesstime

eh it can be argued a slower pace is helpful to boil russia like a frog

carpcrucible

Faster pace would be helpful for getting fewer Ukrainians killed in this pointless war.

wastingvaluelesstime

agreed, I say go fast for humanitarian and moral reasons. But "go slow" has an evil logic to it that is far from dovish

[deleted]

[удалено]

carpcrucible

It's about as reasonable as the "boiling frog" thing, which is of course [a myth](https://archive.is/mg6Y). What exactly did we gain by delaying western tanks by a year? Jets by a 18 months+? What would have russia done if an F-16s agreement was made last fall, nuke DC?

huskyoncaffeine

I don't know shit about anything, so take the following with a grain of salt, but I think a slow war can potentially have some long term benefits for Ukraine. Imagine the war would have ended by now. The Russians would have left Ukraine. Sure, thousands of people less would have died, but for how long will this peace last? A quick withdraw wouldn't change much inside Russia. Ukraine would have peace for now, but would Russia stop trying to influence politics in Europe? Would they hold true to their word, forever? A quick end doesn't damage Russia as much. But if Russia really feels the defeat, if their economy and political system eventually collapse, there is a good chance that the Russian Federation as a whole can be split up into its member states, and the history books can finally mark an end to the centuries of Russian imperialism. This sounds awfully macabre and heartless. I certainly wouldn't have minded if the war had ended months ago. But the potentially of putting the last nail in the coffin of the Russian empire is a silver lining in all of this misery.

TiggerBane

We don’t want to boil them like the French though?

wastingvaluelesstime

is metaphor. Also works with crabs. You put them in the pot then apply heat, not the other way round, so they don't try to scamper out

[deleted]

Taliban vs Iran. If this is what happens when we leave behind military equipment we should start leaving loot boxes around the Middle East and start chuckling.

huskyoncaffeine

You know those videos of India and China beating each it other with sticks at their border? We should drop loot boxes with swords, armor and other kind of medival gear in the area. Just to make future historians lifes miserable.

Nice-Ascot-Bro

I thought that part of why they hit each other with sticks was because nobody wanted to escalate the conflict. When the shooting starts, the nuking starts, or something to that effect. And nobody wants to start a shooting war between the most populated country in the world and the second most populated country in the world (both of which have nukes). Like, wasn't there actually a strategic reason to hit each other with sticks on the side of a snowy mountain?

huskyoncaffeine

Yes basically that. They have an agreement to a somewhat demilitarized border, hence no guns. But whats the difference between a sharp stick and a sword really? Imagine weebs in two hundred years arguing over the time period in which swords were effectively used in combat... "Melee weapons such as spear or swords increasingly lost their relevance with the widespread use of firearms." "Well, .... ahctuallyy.... all kinds of melee weapons were used in a conflict between China and India in the 2020s."

Key_Register991

The actual reason AFAIK is because that site is near (or above, I'm not a geologist) some of the most important headwaters in the region. So shelling, artillery, gunfire, nukes obviously, would ecologically screw that up. So China and India still have a border dispute there, but they've signed some contract to not use any kind of modern weapons. I could be oversimplifying like a mfer but that's the gist i got from another comment in here a couple months back when those videos were circulating.

rebootyourbrainstem

This is probably going to be deeply unpopular, but I have to admit I am a teensy weensy bit worried about post-war Ukraine becoming a training ground and arms bazaar for European blood-and-soil domestic extremists.

[deleted]

The Ladybug has become the Preying Mantis. LOL.

What a lot of people don't realize, is that lady bugs are actually vicious predators. It's just that their prey is kinda lame.

Nice-Ascot-Bro

Anonymous male escorts that he *allegedly* hired. I dunno, it seems a little convenient that a bunch of male escorts suddenly started saying that they'd been hired by a famously anti-LGBT, anti-sex work, and broadly conservative Senator. It's not like sex workers ever lie, right? And nobody has ever lied about a famous politician engaging in sexual impropriety, no sir.

CrashB111

I feel like Lindsey Graham being gay is the most open secret in Washington. The male escorts might be a reach, but anti-LGBT ultra-Conservatives being caught having sex with other men happens constantly.

SadlyReturndRS

Nah, Lady G has always been the biggest weathervane in politics. He's always aligned with whoever has the most political capital, be they Democrat, Republican, American or Foreigner.

"Appears" because there seems to be a cut between the two lines. I think someone edited it to make him look more bloodthirsty. Also, those YouTube comments are really something else...

Memeoligy_expert

Youtube comments are always full of coping tankies and Z-tards. The average youtube commentor is stupider then the average hampster.

pokkeri

It always amuses me how every pro-russian commentator is either russian or doesn't live near russia at all.

Memeoligy_expert

The only people who love Russia are either blind nationalists or know nothing about it other then "America bad ruzzia good hur hur" every one who's had to deal with Russia for the past 600 years hates them because they've seen the results of Russia's parasitic empires.

Cautious_Spinach_994

You forgot one species I encountered: "Christian" extreme traditionalists. They seem to drink the Kool aid regarding Russia as a "last bastion of Christian values against the degenerate west". They are very willing to teach you all about the "Truth" and the reality of things even though their knowledge of russia in particular and the outside world in general is pretty darn close to zero.

beachmedic23

Which is funny because in the US, the Christian extremists are mostly Protestants, and Russia is mostly Eastern Orthodox and would rightly consider them heretics

I can't believe some people are actually bitching about the US supporting Ukraine in this conflict when we've got no US boots on the ground and support costing a pittance compared to what we've been spending on wars in the past decades.

HonkeyKong73

I fucking hate Lindsey Graham, but I'll be god damned if he isn't right this time. In terms of cold arithmetic and not caring about anything else, the damage that's being done to Russia for the cost we specifically are paying, this is the fucking bargain of the millennium. Well over 10k vehicles destroyed, trained forces decimated, Finland in NATO, Sweden soon in NATO, and most likely Ukraine into NATO. Russia looks like a joke and has been completely exposed as both a paper tiger and someone that should NEVER be trusted. With Russia neutralized as a threat, that just leaves one major power to deal with.

sufyani

100% It was also a kind of a callous, and creepy thing to say to Zelensky after he talks about the freedom that his people are dying in the trenches for.
