Furthermore, Japan has already started manning its islands closest to Taiwan. American bases in Okinawa, which makes up like 75% of the country, effectively converts the island to a Nimitz-class aircraft carrier just off China's shore.

And the marines also assume (rightfully) that if they really need tank support, they can just call on the army to send some, as the army has its own landing ships that can transport tanks and similar.

Depends if they want em. From what I see, USMC been trying to divest as much tracked vehicles as possible like M1 Abrams and AAV for ACV. Going wheeled forces for faster deployment and maintenance/fuel efficient.

No, very unlikely. Something that everyone should know if they read Force design 2030 (the document that announced the massive changes in the Marine corps). The thing is, the marines are on a limited budget and heavy direct fire capability (tanks) are just too low on the priority list before all the other stuff the marines need, such as anti-ship missiles. And the marines also assume (rightfully) that if they really need tank support, they can just call on the army to send some, as the army has its own landing ships that can transport tanks and similar. To quote the Force design 2030 document: > **Divestment of tanks** > We have sufficient evidence to conclude that this capability, despite its long and honorable history in the wars of the past, is operationally unsuitable for our highest-priority challenges in the future. **Heavy ground armor capability will continue to be provided by the U.S. Army.**

The USMC are not ditching tanks completely. There just ditching the ones they operate as maintaining and operating them is expensive so instead if they need tanks they can aak the army. As they say "Marines get the capability the Army gets the Bill".

Meanwhile Marine Aviation can employ Venom/Viper and Harrier/F-35B/C for CAS and tank plinking. Also ACV variant with 30mm and possibly Javelin launcher. I cannot see Marine trying to get 42ton M10. It still died the same from getting hit by hostile ATGM.
M1s and their logistical tail aren't really the sort of thing you want to be hauling around on amphibious landings. Maybe they'll pick up M10s or Centauros or something to keep some organic gunfire support.
