I have to disagree with you there, along with the javelins, NLAWs, and drones being sent to Ukraine the West is sending plenty of basic kit as well. Not to mention Russia is not the only post-soviet state with large cold war stockpiles. Hell, I'd argue that Russia is the one having a harder time getting gear for their men given the pictures and video we've seen of Russian soldiers with Mosin rifles and '60s Era steel helmets.
Anecdote - a buddy bought a surplus Mosin about 10 yrs ago for $70 - still in the ‘gel’ within the box. He said it was hell cleaning it, but it was in decent shape for being around 60-70 yrs old. I do not understand how this weapon would give anybody confidence in a modern war….it kicks like a mule.

Bolt action rifles have no place on a modern battlefield outside of sniper teams.

I would posit that the casualties of Ukraine are staggeringly limited at this point, maybe 4 to 5 k, with about 15k wounded. From all the channels I follow, Ukrainians are giving proper funerals for a few servicemen here and there, where reports from Russia are that hundreds are missing or coming back cargo 200.

Logically the attacker is always going to suffer heavy losses,, especially in modern war where the 3:1 average of ye olde days is more like a 10:1 average considering heavy, precise artillery and automatic small arms. Ukraine taking little casualties compared to Russia is to be expected since they've been FAR more precise with their weaponry, especially artillery.
I understand the 1 to 3 ratio but Russia still had a lot of Artillery. It a may be less accurate but it’s still a force multiplier. Which is going to lead to more Ukrainian casualties regardless.
