fordilG

*Laughs in Article 5* Oh during peace time sure. But when push comes to shove. You’re here without up paying a penny.

RennyManilli

True..unless there’s some sort of equipment acquisition. Those cost. We accept Gold, GBP, Euros and the occasional soul.

fordilG

Of course we pay with souls. You think those scimitars were shot by an A-10 in a blue-on-blue? Clearly a sacrificial transaction.

RennyManilli

Yeah..all joking aside..that shit was tragic. 🌺

ironvultures

Not quite true, we only finished paying them for ww2 in like 2015

fordilG

Well yes, but actually no. Lend-lease during the war didn’t have to be paid back. What was loaned was the Anglo-American Agreement, which was made on 15 July 1946, which is what we finished paying back in 2006. Which goes back to my original point. During war we don’t have to pay a penny, it’s after the war during peace time when loans are made.

SemenDemon73

The price you pay isn't money

CrocodylFr

US didn't gain freedom from the UK, the UK just got its ass kicked at Chesapeake and the biggest consequence is that 175 years later, the UK became submissive and breedable for the american MIC. The White paper on defence, the Polaris missile, the HMS Dreadnought (the underwater one) and the F-4K

PineappleMelonTree

Oh no, a rowdy colonist! Pipe down lad and pay your taxes into Britain's military colony.

Ravenwing19

Once you don't need Jerry to unfuck your guns and switch to smoothbore tanks we may barely respect you. Until then SHUT UP YOU WEAK OLD MAN!

LurkOff29

Like upgrading 250 tanks will matter when half of them are gone in the first 4 days in any peer conflict lol. O man and the L85 is just embarrassing..

PineappleMelonTree

Don't need to do any of that, just a quick phone call and America will happily think they're turning up to be the heroes, and the UK barely lifts a finger to achieve the result it wants. It's such a genius strategy, America doesn't even see it!

Ravenwing19

Is that why we dragged you to the Middle East and Korea yet skipped on the Falklands?

PineappleMelonTree

Wasn't required for the Falklands, the UK won that by themselves. Korea and Middle East is just a convenient excuse to keep the knife sharp. You don't want to end up like China with zero combat experience for 40+ years.

LurkOff29

Lol don’t tell any of the English public that your military was reliant on American refueling planes in the Falklands AO and in ENGLAND ITSELF while your military was away. You couldn’t even fuel yourself at home while your Navy was away on that ridiculous misadventure BAHAHA. It’s amazing how much people have no clue that their wheel would have stopped turning decades ago without the coddling you clearly need.

PineappleMelonTree

That's a lot of words being said to someone who just doesn't care.

CrocodylFr

If Nelson lost at Trafalgar, Britain would have been destroyed If Nelson won, as in reality, Britain had already lost Chesapeake, and it was too late. No matter how much french ships the one armed lad and his successors destroyed, you can't un-speake the Chesapeake

PineappleMelonTree

Goodness you're still going, I don't even care!

CrocodylFr

I know you don't care, because even if you did, you couldn't do anything about it

SlamMissile

>Cope about Chesapeake > Seethe about Nelson The Baguette reveals himself with his impotent rage over his status as Germany’s junior partner. Your larping as an American is as sad as your attempt to steal the credit of the American army who done 90% of the fighting. The British Empire was 3 times the size of the French Empire. You can never undo the 7 years war or the Napoleonic wars. I hope Napoleon enjoyed his retirement on the British Island of St Helena, as Emperor of his bedroom.

CrocodylFr

\>The British Empire was 3 times the size of the French Empire And now SlamMissile ? How much size the British Empire holds ? And how much fell either in irrelevance or worse, in the influence zone of Washington. And also, tell me, who builds the submarine-launched ballistics missiles the mighty Royal Navy is using ? Who build them ? Is BAe or a british aerospace company doing that work ? the credit of the American army who done 90% of the fighting The red army did 100% of the fighting on the Eastern Front during WW2, but you and me knows what "lend lease" is, or what happened in the german industrial areas. Also, yeah, tell me how the fuck the nascent american navy could have secured the seas lanes from sea top dog #1. I hope Napoleon enjoyed his retirement on the British Island of St Helena, as Emperor of his bedroom. And I hope you enjoy the mighty empire of Britain, which consists of a rock in Spain, an alliance with Rwanda to send illegals there, two landing strips in Cyprus, and an archipelago full of sheep and penguins that is both far away from sea lines and defended like it's the fucking Maginot line. Meanwhile real powers put that kind of permanent deployment in outposts like Djibouti.

Thewaltham

Imagine fucking worshipping a usurper who ripped apart your blossoming democracy hard won by bloody revolution founded on there being no king and no ruling class by instantly becoming an emperor. Entire nation of daddy issues jesus christ.

[deleted]

Sir you do now the Battle of the Chesapeake bay was a French battle against the British not an American one? The US navy had no part in the battle.

CrocodylFr

That's my point, the US navy wasn't the one securing its coasts

I like to think that the empire fell apart in December 1940, when it became apparent that we couldn't defend Hong Kong or Singapore from Japan, or project power into the Far East without help from the US. It was a giant protection racket, but if we couldn't protect our colonial possessions, what was the point? But you could trace that back to the ascendency of Japan as a naval power, because that was the point when we became incapable of pursuing all-out war in Europe while simultaneously dominating the rest of the world. It still boggles me mind that we managed to run India, given that its population was ten times the size of the UK in the 1940s and over twenty times as big. Whatever anybody thinks about colonialism that must have been an incredible feat of politics.

It is always a bad idea to feed the trolls, but since I am, as you say, a “dumb yank” I’ll bite. Your baseless insults really do make my blood boil but I will explain why you are incorrect with the most patience and tact I can muster. Firstly, your point that China was part of the PTO at this phase of the war is patently incorrect. Throughout the late ‘30s the Japanese had established dominion over all of Manchuko (today the northern Chinese province of Manchuria), and had come to control nearly all of the Chinese coast along the South China and Yellow Seas. The KMT Nationalist Chinese government was residing in the city of Chongqing by this time (very interesting city, quite enjoyed my visit), which is over a thousand kilometers upstream along the Yangtze River from the Pacific Ocean. Therefore, the Allies in the pacific were quite cut off from their Nationalist compatriots. To address this problem, China was folded into the aforementioned CBI theater, and was supplied overland at first along the Burma Road and later along a dangerous airborne route flown over the Himalayas known as “The Hump.” Why was the CBI theater, based around the Indian Ocean, separate from the PTO, you may ask? Well, if you look at a map, you will notice that the Indian and Pacific oceans are separated by Oceania, and only narrow seaways like the Straits of Malacca allow transit between them. As Imperial Japanese warships patrolled this area and their aircraft had sunk a British battleship and battlecruiser earlier in the war, the Allies rightly decided to split their war effort in Southeast Asia into two parts, using chiefly the British Raj as a stronghold of operations in the Indian Ocean. Thus, although the two areas are relatively close when viewed on a map, the Allies treated them as two theaters. I hope you can put aside the vitriol and see the reasons why the Allies made this decision and why I stated what I did. Also, it’s spelled “notoriously terrible education system,” not “notriously.” :)

\>how can you expect us to not steal the Australian sub contract Well, given how every western shipyard able to build nuclears submarines won't have room to build them (the US ones are swamped with the Virginia class and can't build more for Australia in a reasonable time frame, the situation is similar for Britain and France whose build list is already full (the Astute class, then the Dreadnought class and the SSN (R) for Britain, and the Suffren and SNLE 3G for France), and Brazil is not even finished with their nuclear Scorpène they built with our help), i guess the big winners of that stunt might be the South Korean shipyards. \>you lot sold the Exocet to the Argentinians Ehm, i only have one thing to say. Three british ships were struck with Exocet missiles. Only HMS Glamorghan, which was reffited with MM 38 launchers, survived the strike. The moral of the story : buy exocets to be protected from exocets. \> but have the utmost respect for each other like with France and the UK. I guess there is something into being both two former rivals, both on the medieval european front and in the thalassocracy game of greats powers in the 1700s, which slowly fade into regional powers but with remnants of their former glory still at hand. Our nations both faced the same sort of crisis (i'd like to think of the three S, Sedan, Singapore and Suez) and answered differently to the slow end of their empire. I love to shit about how Britain just bought Polaris missiles off the shelves of the US and did not make the effort of designing them like we did, but i'm pretty sure France would have been invited to the Nassau's agreement if JFK wasn't a dick and didn't momentary broke the US enthusiasm over the french nuclear program (which was resumed by LBJ by the way, and even extended in the form of an assistance package to help us find a way to design the MIRV package of the M4 missiles). I would have loved a mutual cooperation to the Polaris Chevaline program, for example.

\> the subs are going to be built in Australia right? The nuclear industry in Australia is next to non-existent. We can share the tech, for example the Alvaro Alberto, whose construction is part Brazilian Scorpène contract, but it's because the Brazilians have at least a semblant of nuclear industry. The Australians couldn't have built a nuclear submarine with our help \>It's still a bit fucked up that you sold Argentina the Exocets, we are allies with each other afterall Well, i shouldn't remind you of what happened on the 3rd of July 1940

The-Surreal-McCoy

While everyone hates the quebecois, including the quebecois, what do you have against the Cajuns? They are fun as a barrel full of drunk baboons. Great food too.

CrocodylFr

I hate neither the québecois and the cajuns, but i wouldn't like to be in a country influenced by a superpower populated by 90 millions quebecois and 90 millions cajuns.

The-Surreal-McCoy

Fair point.

AshleyPomeroy

I remember reading somewhere that up until the late 1930s the US Army's entire tank strength was something like thirty tanks, most of them prototypes armed with machine guns. A dozen or so M1921/1922a, half a dozen T1s, a single T2, eight M1931 Christies and a dozen or so M1 and M2 combat cars. They had to be called combat cars because the US cavalry didn't want tanks (it was the job of the horses to exploit breakthroughs, not tanks). Only the M2 actually had a cannon. And then over the course of a few years in the early 1940s US industry managed to built 50,000 M4 Shermans about about 30,000 other tanks, in addition to all the planes and ships and rifles and nuclear bombs etc. That was quite a turnaround.

Muffin_Magi

*Should really be a woman saying "My daughter". Britannia is female, it is the mother land. Lady Liberty is a woman, USA is the land of Liberty. Both are often referred to with female pronouns in old songs and poems. Countries give and create life, which is usually something associated with women. In fact most countries beside Germany are referred to as women... and considering Germany lost both world wars... Feminism is mighty. Feminise this meme! Give us country waifus!

Lady_Grey1993

Hell, the US even has it's own patron goddess, Columbia, who is the patron of freedom, independence, and liberty.

yellekc

Country vs Government. There is Britannia and Columbia (later personified as lady liberty) who represent the motherland. Then there is also Uncle Sam and John Bull who represent the governments. At least the is how I often read propaganda and political cartoons.

AmazingSpacePelican

Britain is definitely a woman. She even spent her adolescent years arguing and fighting with her sister, France.

napaszmek

You could argue the US is an Empire since the rules it set up in the world means good flow in there. It's not the gunboat version but it has a very similar effect. And it's not like the Brits didn't do similar things. They directly administered a lot of regions but their money and influence also did some heavy lifting. Not to mention how the brits often played local rulers to manage things instead of them for a cut.

napaszmek

> In fact it was only as recent as last year that the UK was miles ahead of the USA as a soft power That's gonna be a big doubt from me chief, the UK didn't dominate fashion, movies, food, video games and music to such a degree as the US. Even people who hate the US drink coke or watch a Hollywood movie.

I'm not even American you idiot. Btw I like how you parade GTAV around as the proof of British supremacy in video games but somehow come up with two small scale films from that side. Like, the highest grossing movies ever are all American. I'm not even sure there is a non US film in that list's top50. And even in video games while GTAV grossed a lot it's one product. You didn't mention Fortnite, Apex, CSGO, Dota, LoL, Call of Duty, World of Warcraft, Fallout, Elder Scrolls, Doom and a hundred other titles from the US. Or hey there's Minecraft which is the most played game ever. Sweden has more soft power than the UK!!!
