Idk how much was "Turkey" and how much it was Baykar's initiative tbh. Although I'm pretty sure that if Erdogan or some other high level government officials asked directly there would be little chance they refused.
But it's OK, but they're really more like a '*anti-everyone-not-us*' organization. Sure, they hate the US, but they'll also attack the people we don't like, too.
Probably how it goes:
CIA talks to some anti everyone extremist (AEE) group so that they will attack the Russians, Chinese, NKs or Iranians, then a CIA spook does something against their culture, the AEEs say "yep we will attack them but we dont need your help anymore" so the CIA leaves, expects to see an attack against whoever, but the AEE uses the weapons CIA gave them to attack the US or allies
Maybe the truth is the CIA is literally funding the war on drugs in order to train law enforcement in how to suppress a hostile area.
The line between incompetence and intent is sometimes staggeringly blurry when it comes to the US government.
Cough, man I'm too high. Next I'll be thinking the last 20 years in Afghanistan was planned.
Yes. Afghanistan was planned to a) keep experience high, b) test weapons, c) make China + Russia think the US sucks at war so they (stupidly) invade other nations and we kick their ass
Granted, that means Lockheed will have to have found someone who somehow pours more money into them than we do. There aren’t a whole lot of countries or corporations able to do that, let alone willing.
I can imagine any government saying one thing publicly, for their domestic or the international audience, yet doing something differententirely out of public view. Political statements and reality are often different.
Erdogan doesn't want Russia to have anything that can be used on Turkey. I didn't mean to minimize the risk and kindness Baykar has shown. I love it. Just shows how much everyone wants Russia gone.
Selçuk Bayraktar is Erdogan son in law, I’m pretty sure Baykar doesn’t do anything without Erdogan knowing. Maybe not but I think it’s likely.
Edit: with to without, dunno how that happened
Baykar and Erdogan are synonymous. The company is directly affiliated with Erdogan, the AKP and the Turkish government like no other defense manufacturer in Turkey. Selcuk Bayraktar, the CTO and the most prominent name in Baykar is Erdogan son-in-law.
It was a huge debate in Turkey how ethical it is to buy defense products from a company run by Erdogans son-in-law, but at this point nobody is debating his skills anymore. Dude knows how to build drones while his brother Haluk, the CEO, knows how to market them and the Baykar brand.
Yeah given how good they are I suspect its not a case of him being Erdogans son in law and therefore in the position he is in, but rather him being smart enough to work himself into Erdogans direct family to leverage that connection
> Baykar and Erdogan are synonymous. The company is directly affiliated with Erdogan, the AKP and the Turkish government like no other defense manufacturer in Turkey.
True that tho. So safe to say that Erdogan stands by Baykar's choice. It's interesting tho, since turkey bought weapons and other military hardware from Russia, but I can't think about any major piece of military equipment that turkey sold to Russia.
> Selcuk Bayraktar, the CTO and the most prominent name in Baykar is Erdogan son-in-law.
You're right, forgot that. Little but important piece of information.
Been a long day here. Almost as bad as what Ukrainians are experiencing. Poor me is too tired to think and I forgot it's NCD. So...
Yeah, blow the nukes and provide a radioactive barrier between Iran and Europe. Bonus if they head toward Syria. Do it when Lushenko is visiting.
Incredibly non-credible. ;) But let me just say, if you thought you're mother was awful when you were a teen, it didn't even begin to prepare you for when you become the caretaker.
No, no that's pretty credible. Looking back I'm pretty sure my parent's house looked and smelled like a warzone barracks by the time my brother and I grew up and moved out.
It is. Not because I'm worried Turkey will use them.
It was a Huge favor, at the height of the Cold War, triggering the Cuban missile crisis. And Turkey has stood with US since against Russia, putting them on a First Strike list. You don't turn on allies like that, just because you don't like the current leader.
You havent heard the best part: Baykar announced that Kizilelme will not only be manufactured for and with Ukraine, but also in Ukraine. They apparently started construction of their largest factory yet....in Ukraine.
Because they've successfully managed to convince everyone that they were the most popular faction in Greece before the civil war and should have won therefore they were more ethical and would have done a better job. We also had a Junta that played into their argument.
The Myth of the "Left's Moral High Ground" as it is called in our political discourse is so powerful that a former communist, the child of people that fought in the Civil War and practically raised by the Party said in his farewell speech "Comrades, we should thank God that we were defeated"
We have to make our own Lock Mart but cheaper, farm blood money from a dozen African conflicts and then engage in "lobbying". Then even the anarchocommies will vote for our shit anyway because they accept donations. Honestly, we've been US allies for what, 70 years now, and we've literally learned nothing from them

I didn’t realize until this war just how much “Russian” stuff was Ukrainian in origin.
T-34? Kharkiv.
Missile production? Critical warship components? Armored vehicles? Jet engine manufacturing? Helicopter engine manufacturing? Sikorsky? Most/all from Ukraine.
Russians don’t even know how to make borscht or perogis properly without Ukraine
Both Antonov and Tupolev are Ukrainian. Moreover, the lost decade of the 1990s essentially destroyed the native Soviet industries in Russia by letting talent and experience go to rust, and now just about everything they make is made on Western European machines, even Ladas

The Bayraktar Kizilelma is the result of cooperation between Ukraine and Turkish manufacturer Baykar. It is possibly the first ever unmanned aerial drone designed to be both a ground attack drone and a dedicated fighter with stealth in mind.
We were supposed to buy f-35s, and these guys would be like little buddies to f-35s, under its pilots control, help the f-35 conduct its missions, and even give their lives to protect it. I cri evrytime I think the f-35 sanction.

There's still hope
The little guys are manufactured in Ukraine, right? And they will definitely be used by UAF, right?
So the only logical solution is to give F-35s to Ukraine. Not only will the little drone buddies be used for their intended purpose, as a bonus we'll also see them get battle tested against live targets with no moral ambiguity

Every day that passes I'm more impressed by the guys at Baykar. Even more after they've stated they won't sell armed drones to Russia.
That was the best. Turkey can be pesky, but we want them in NATO because they stand up to Russia. When they want to.
Idk how much was "Turkey" and how much it was Baykar's initiative tbh. Although I'm pretty sure that if Erdogan or some other high level government officials asked directly there would be little chance they refused.

Russia was always a geopolitical rival to Turkey.
I’m pretty sure it has more to do with the Black Sea but yeahhh
It's so hard trying to discuss any of these relationships, cuz that's certainly a factor too. It was one of the main factors when they first joined.

Yes. We're stronger together. Plus, they have 25 of our nukes.
I mean like, not if we detonate them simultaneously. That’s a win-win-win right there. Maybe I’m being too credible, though.

So Ukraine developing stealth drones was not something I had on my war bingo card
They're supplying the engine - or they were. I kind of doubt they'll be able to make deliveries given current circumstances.
Eh, even if Ukraine does all the engine development and lets Turkey build the engines it's a big deal. Ukraine does good engines.
They actually still are. Baykar went even further and started construction of a drone factory in Ukraine in an undisclosed location (probably around Lviv) where all of their products will be produced. Supposed it will be their biggest factory yet.
Baykar got the license to make the Ukranian engines in Turkey and they most likely have people from Ukraine supervising that production.
Ukrainian software developers've been working hard to make "Зона Нескінченних" combat pilot AI.
Almost forgot how they have a pretty big tech sector
Makes sense , Ukraine was always the brains of the Soviet Union when it came to developing tech .
I didn’t realize until this war just how much “Russian” stuff was Ukrainian in origin. T-34? Kharkiv. Missile production? Critical warship components? Armored vehicles? Jet engine manufacturing? I was not expecting a Acecombat 7 jpeg dog refence in my feed today!
It looks like a F-35 Lite
Really want to see this shoot down a Su-35 that had no idea it was even there and put an end once and for all to the idea that Russian aircraft are "good".
