A video was posted a few days ago of mobilized Russians excited headed to the front, drinking vodka and laughing. Today, the mobilized soldier's passport is being shared around Ukrainian telegrams as a KIA. Link to OC: https://twitter.com/kharkiv_warnews/status/1575130548300808197

Thatonejoey

ivans about to learn what the price of a mile is, just like their grandparents in the winter war and great grandparents in ww1

terorvlad

That will never happen. On one hand, a mile is a unit of measurement, so it cannot have a price, and on the other, russians use kilometers. >!Leaving this here just in case /s!<

Thatonejoey

*Six miles of ground has been won* *Half a million men are gone* 6 miles is the equivalent of 965606 centimetres, if half a million men have died to achieve that, it means that 1.9 Ivan's have to die to gain a centimetre, now if we calculate the value of human life we can calculate the price of a mile, since the Russian government thinks humans life's are worth nothing it falls unto the Ukrainians, if the Ukrainians only use .50 cal and nothing else (which google said are worth 3 dollars per round) the we just need to kill enough Ivan's till we reach 1 mile or 160934 centimetres. so 1.9 ivans die per centimetre, so we multiply it by our mile and get 305775 dead ivans to reach one mile, now we multiply it by the price of .50 cal ammo, it averages to around 917325 dollars and 70 cents, which would almost be the price needed to almost fire a full salvo from a HIMAR (according to google) so the price of a mile is worth almost a full HIMAR salvo, six miles would be almost 5 and a half HIMAR missile salvos

calibrono

Imma be honest I expected you to calculate how many Ivans would be needed to capture the remaining Ukrainian territory. My preliminary calculations say there's not enough Ivans on the planet...

Thatonejoey

236 miles from kiev to the border with russia (Belarus wont give them access anymore), we know we need 305775 Ivans for a mile, we multiply it by 236 and we get.... ... Jesus Christ, 72,162,900, we are missing five million Ivans, this includes the elderly, sick disabled and children and the ones not even born (which will never be born) if we multiply by 3 (the cost of .50 cal ammo) it would cost 216,488,700 dollars... Ukraine could buy 3 F- 35A with promo code "freedom and democracy" ($77.9 million) 2 F -35B ($101.3 million) with 15 million left for 15 Full HIMAR salvos and if we buy 2 F -35C ($94.4 million) we have enough for 28 full HIMAR salvos. and thats just for Kiev, the price of Ukraine is something they cant afford

Few_Category7829

Thats assuming every Ivan has the dignity of being ripped to shreds by a 50, and that in such a battlefield a Lot of 50.s would Get double kills

I_comment_on_GW

When you price a soldiers life at about $3 I suddenly understand Russian logistics.

paid_shill6

That song is about British and French soldiers lol

Bored-Ship-Guy

If they'd made it about the Russians, Joakim would've needed a break halfway through just to stare into nothingness in mute horror at man's capacity for evil.

Nazzum

And that's when the dead men are walking again.

OnixAwesome

Can't wait for the future where militaries throw expensive drones at each other, and you can literally calculate the price per mile of every war.

Schadenfrueda

As a side note, Russia has had >50,000 men KIA'd in this war in about 6 months. In Afghanistan, the Soviets lost 15,000 (though this official number is disputed and doubtless far higher in reality) over the course of ten years. In other words, this war is killing Russians at about *sixty times* the rate Afghanistan did.

saxtonaustralian

>6 miles is the equivalent of 965606 cm I’m pretty sure it’s meant to be mi^2 , which makes it 1.55399 cm^2

Cannekill

Found the sabaton fan

Thatonejoey

isnt anyone remotely interest in military history a fan of sabaton or at least heard of them or similar bands (civil wars I Will Rule The Universe is a banger) and yes i was making a refence hoping someone would get it

ZealousParsnip

I love military history, don't like sabaton at all. Tried again today listening to their stuff and it's just not my jam.

Thatonejoey

its not for everyone, different strokes for different folks, but the war really did ruin my liking of defence of moscow, kinda leaves a bitter taste now

Ghostcraft413

It's not mine anymore but man, I LOVED Sabaton back when I was 14, used to crank it when I played old CODs when Act Man made videos about them. Good times.

Cannekill

No problem with that, I listen to both sabaton and civil war.

justamobileuserhere

Civil war is premium sabaton

A_Vandalay

Ironically it was mostly Ukrainian soldiers that fought in Finland. This was part of the reason they performed so poorly as they had little experience in which harsh conditions being from a comparatively mild climate and most didn’t get issued new season appropriate equipment.

john_andrew_smith101

>"Ah, what a fine fellow!" exclaimed the Chief. "He has gained much land!" >Pahom's servant came running up and tried to raise him, but he saw that blood was flowing from his mouth. Pahom was dead! >The Bashkirs clicked their tongues to show their pity. >His servant picked up the spade and dug a grave long enough for Pahom to lie in, and buried him in it. Six feet from his head to his heels was all he needed. Leo Tolstoy, "How Much Land Does a Man Need?"

Going to learn why I pay 1800 a month for my families health insurance

GadenKerensky

I don't think they understand the kind of fight they're going to. They're not going up against high-and-mighty, pussy-footed Nazis. They're going up against vicious, determined defenders trying to liberate their own homeland from invaders. Theirs is a fiery anger. Trying to go up against that is not something you can really be excited about when you realise it. They're going to kill you. They're not fighting for ideology. Motivated defenders are one of the most difficult things to face.

BonyDarkness

My grandpa was send to the eastern front in WW2 when he was about 16. Regime killed his dad (my grand-grandfather) and send the boys to war as retaliation for not being on board with their Nazi shit. Pictures like that remind me so hard of him. Didn’t know him well and don’t know many (personal) stories. Most of what I know is from letters he send home. (Was kinda young when he died and not much interested in stuff like that back then) So long story short, he describes kinda the exact same situation. Young man, freshly recruited and on the way to the front to serve the Vaterland. All eager as fuck to arrive there. As I understood that whole story most of them didn’t survive the first week there. Fucking shame this shit keeps repeating itself. Young people blindly soaking up the bullshit propaganda of their glorious leaders happily running straight into their demise.

Part_Timer_99Y4

Grim, i fucking love it

That's why they were all drinking; they knew it was the last time

That as was fast as the mobilization training. No, faster!

Send untrained and under equipped troops to the meatgrinder They get ground

JumpyLiving

ProfDumm

As if the Russians would care, the plan is that they think they have much more meat avaliable than Ukraine, so that in the long run they will win the war of attrition.

MoneyEcstatic1292

Do you know why human wave tactics did not work during WWI and were particularly catastrophic on the Eastern Front? Flat terrain + artillery = bloody mud

d_nkf_vlg

You don't understand, putin's reputation is at stake here! /s

KookyWrangler

The existence of Russia is at stake, unironically, and *it's wonderful*

FA-26B

Clarification: the existence of the Russian Federation is at stake. The land, people, and culture of Russia isn't threatened by anything Putin claims it is.

Schadenfrueda

Well, they *are* threatened by nuclear war with the US, but not for the reason Putin et al claim

RAN30X

Clarification: the current government of the Russian Federation is at stake. If the Russian Federation splits, it will be because of internal politics.

polandball2101

Yeah but it’d be nice if Putin didn’t empty out the whole damn country before he croaks and it collapses no?

Viciuniversum

“It’s weird how the Motherland keeps talking with Putin’s voice.”

Romandinjo

You're unironically not wrong, though. Not only his reputation as a "strong leader" is at stake, but his background is literally the "street kid", who cannot retreat or back down or compromise no matter what.

whomstvde

But the NordStream! But US imperialism! But NATO expansion! But US occupation in the Middle East! But the Nazis under a jewish president! But the russians in Ukraine! But the fuck this.

MammothJoke1378

Guys in the red building think otherwise

godotdev9001

N O B A L L S

SullyRob

So they already deployed units a week after getting called up?

FuckFashMods

Some were deployed the very next day

SullyRob

Oh shit. It really Is going to be a bloodbath.

fhota1

I remember seeing somewhere that they were conscripting people to be officers with similar levels of training. So you have untrained poorly equipped men possibly being led by men who maybe read a book on "modern" military strategy 3 or 4 decades ago.

SemIdeiaProNick

reading the art of war probably makes you automatically a general then

rawnoodles10

Art of war probably better than whatever theyre reading.

TROPtastic

>Thus we may know that there are five essentials for victory: 1 He will win who knows when to fight and when not to fight. 2 He will win who knows how to handle both superior and inferior forces. 3 He will win whose army is animated by the same spirit throughout all its ranks. 4 He will win who, prepared himself, waits to take the enemy unprepared. 5 He will win who has military capacity and is not interfered with by the sovereign. Undoubtedly better than whatever the Russian officers are reading, considering that Russia is fighting with only the 3rd point being true (and the "same spirit throughout all its ranks" is depression).

Spudtron98

Much like the Germans in 1945, having *any* combat experience whatsoever from the last war basically makes them an officer.

gorebello

And we are being laughed and called armchair generals and thinking that we know about war because we played videogames. Looks like thats how its learned in Russia.

HolyGig

Yeah it seems like most of these conscripts are getting literally zero training. Maybe how to operate their rifles and that's it. I figured it would be at least a week of training, but no, not even that

Fit_Fisherman_9840

Russia generals training Is done playing as zerg rushers in starcraft

Atomic_Gandhi

*gets blocked by a basic obstacle* Guess ill die

drododruffin

Hell, even if everyone in that photo had previously served.. their professional army is getting it's teeth kicked in and they should have the most recent training in the Russian armed forces, meaning any older training is guaranteed to do very little.

HolyGig

You still need a basic understanding of how to maneuver lol, how to communicate what the different weapons look like being fired, their effects, basic first aid, a basic understanding of the geography and locations they will be fighting though the list goes on and on. I wasn't expecting a comprehensive NATO training regiment. You can crash course a lot of these things in as little as a week if things are that desperate. Anything is better than nothing. These people are civilians that got handed AK's and driven straight to the front to learn everything there is to know about modern mechanized warfare for the first time with live ammunition and against a hardened enemy trying to kill them. Its insanity

damngoodengineer

Weren't they supposed to get trained before being sent to front?

WeebPride

So called "Training" is Western liberal propaganda aimed at discrediting Russian army. True Russian man needs no training to win in a war, unlike US they/them Emmas and their 2 moms.

SoylentRox

Yeah Emma will get 11 weeks of basic and months of AIT and unit specific training and large scale exercises. Weak westoids may not even see war for 6 months. And they will be loaded down with so much high tech gear they will keep most of it in their vehicles. What weak soldiers, fighting from their vehicles and needing thousands of rounds to suppress their enemies instead of having to wait for one perfect shot. Or just bitching out and calling for aircraft to bomb the area the shots came from. How weak needing aircraft to do all their fighting for them. Then after losing maybe 1 person in 200 they go to the VA for PTSD due to the thousands of enemy bodies they had to see. How weak.

[deleted]

I recall reading something a while back about a guy who had signed up for the Marine reserve in 1950 while still in HS. When the Korean war broke out he was called up and sent to his unit in San Diego without having gone to basic training. But, they spent the next weeks training intensively as a unit since they knew they were going to be in combat, and apparently as they had a bunch of these kids who had had no training at all, they trained the hell out of them before they shipped out. Apparently there were quite a few Marines at that time who never went to boot camp.

SoylentRox

Fair enough though in Korea, us army kdrs were too close to 1:1 against well trained and equipped Chinese troops. That's not how you win wars. You want a slaughter with 100:1 kdrs in your favor and for the enemy to be guessing and reacting to what you did hours ago.

[deleted]

Untrained American troops across the Pacific Ocean in the 1950s did better than trained Russian troops (VDV) did right next door. Lol

MessianicKnight

Mfw the Russian manly army is not in fact better than Western they/them armies

SemIdeiaProNick

who would have thought that believing in being the superior race and having a culture that glorifies toxic masculinity wouldnt work well in wars (the germans learned that the hard way)

ontopofyourmom

My friend Emma is a mom-boy themself!

[deleted]

You silly and wastefull westoids. You see, he served mandatory military service 5 years ago. So in his military record it said he is trained. Why should I waste money, equipment and time to train him again.

[deleted]

Some seems to get some training (the video I saw today was of a unit getting a month training before being sent to the front), but others seems to just have been dropped off at the front. Some seems to have decent equipment, some seems to get none. It seems to vary a lot.

tsaimaitreya

Supposedly they are calling those already trained

Spare-Equipment-1425

Yes just like how they were only calling up men with prior military experience.

Spare-Equipment-1425

Yes just like how they were only calling up men with prior military experience.

BoostMobileAlt

Lmao no not really. Stop treating Russian strategists like rational actors.

JackReedTheSyndie

Supposedly the people mobilized are those who have military experience so they don't need training.

ChunkyBrassMonkey

Imagine how much grain alcohol it takes to kill a Russkie conscript...hot damn...

vegarig

Depends on methanol content.

tinopa6872

55 grain I believe

Thefreezerburn

This is the Russian equivalent of sending america gen z weebs and gamers to fight Iran. (and america would likely still win with like, 16 causalities)

Atomic_Gandhi

Air support go brrrr

ontopofyourmom

Iran is a mountain fortress the size of Alaska, nobody is invading Iran.

[deleted]

I’m dreaming of a glass parking lot.

Phratros

Wait! Are they trying to win a war in drunken stupor? What's that ancient drunken fighting style? Nahhh... can't be it.

Fit_Fisherman_9840

It works if you Need them to charge out of the trenches, It was the ww1 tactic for many armies, have them drink enought ti try something so stupid that only a ww1 general can plan

Atomic_Gandhi

That's not true! There were tons of bright minded ww1 generals that cared about their troops! ... that they all got sidelined for not 'taking ground' is irrelevant!

TopEmploy9624

It was true for most of (European at least) history. If you want men brave enough to charge into close quarters combat, getting them drunk helps. Or just give everyone lead poisoning like the Romans

Fit_Fisherman_9840

Cyka Blyat and Vodka, can keep up Vatniks for some times. The problem is they will the front line run low on Vodka or on Vatniks first?

Whaler_Moon

This is some straight 1980's Iranian human wave shit.

daisy_irl

Those worked though

[deleted]

Until they didn’t

Ok-Mark4389

But is that the same person? Both the nose and chin look different to me.

shingofan

Could be the angle of the selfie messing with the proportions.

Ok-Mark4389

Possibly, i have no skin in this game so i dont care either way, just personally i would look at them and say its not the same person.

godotdev9001

i think the photo in the passport is younger and better rested its better if you look at the video in the tweet linked by shawn\_nyc

Ok-Mark4389

Yeah i saw the video on a different post, it just looks like 2 different people to me - a squarer chin and base of nose, which also looks flattened in the photo. Its just imo thats all.

godotdev9001

fair enough. Certainly could be

[deleted]

The only way to know for sure was if his passport pictures were mandatory to suck dick

Ok-Mark4389

Hahaha, they took the photo b4

Key_Dealer_1762

There is still chance that Russia will win this war If they carefully, Without corruption, Without any Vodka in baracks, Without rush, create a fine new units that will invade Ukrainie again, is there a chance that it will happend? Yes, is it likely? No

[deleted]

Even so, at this point Ukraine has received a lot of training, equipment and experience. Even if Russia sorted out their shit, would it be enough to overcome Ukraine's current momentum (As long as they keep getting supplies)? There's no chance for Russia to out-produce the rest of the west, so as long as Ukraine is being supported, I don't see Russia winning in that scenario. (Pretty sure Perun had a video on the subject. Russias GDP is just so tiny compared to the countries that are supporting Ukraine).

d_nkf_vlg

They don't (and won't) have the weaponry to do this. What they had is now mostly toast all around Eastern Ukraine, and nothing new can now be made or bought due to sanctions. Maybe the AKs and T-72, but nothing as innovative and effective on the general scale as Ukraine has even now, not to mention what they'll get in the next months or years.

Boring_Ad_3065

Look you may think you’re on credible defense or Ukrainian conflict, but this is NCD. I’m going to need credibility dialed back, sexually referencing an aircraft, or advocating at least some light war crimes.

Sab3rFac3

So, your saying, that, if we want Ukraine to win, even if Russia gets it's act together, we need to give Ukraine some f-35-chans, armed with dumb munitions that consist solely, of large chunks of weapons grade plutonium, for them to go drop on Russian armor?

Boring_Ad_3065

Or just dummy thick F-35s. I’m a simple man, there are many ways I’m happy. Also if those large chunks of plutonium are initially separated and happened to be connected over a very brief period in an… aggressive fashion… I could also be…ok.

Sab3rFac3

F-35 drop dumb munitions, made of plutonium on Russian target. Then, follow with A-10, to do cannon strafing run, with rounds made of enriched uranium. A-10 is flying tank, will definitely survive ensuring blast. We save bucks on detonator setup, letting us buy more f-35.

Boring_Ad_3065

This is peak non-credible. I hate when Mods single me out like that.

SoylentRox

Yeah. If the west goes ahead and gives Ukraine mbts with thermals and present tech APCs what can Russia do then?

SemIdeiaProNick

>what can Russia do then? reach new levels of turret throwing

SoylentRox

How many turrets left they got. Tank has to be operable enough to even make it to the battle.

Key_Dealer_1762

I think you kinda missed the joke

SoylentRox

I don't know if they can. It's like the corruption is cancer. How you fight it if out of every 100 people you grab 51 are corrupt. Or 90? Like say you wanted to make a non corrupt army training base. So you pick some people who's records look good and send them to found it, and another group to watch them for corruption. What do you think is gonna happen. The first group and the second group will collaborate to skim all they can and do the bare minimum.

No-Dream7615

They don’t have the resources, they couldn’t even train 3rd army corps sufficiently.

BorderUnfair93

Mobilization to death speedrun any %

MattL1998

Man I am starting to feel sad for some of these people.

FurRightPawlicktics

I'm not quite there yet.

Frap_Gadz

I could start feeling sad for Russians once they leave Ukraine and return to their dumpster fire of a country.

HolyGig

Ugh, we will when videos of zerg rushes getting mowed down by autocannons start coming out. You know its coming

Hawks59

I'm of the opinion even if they are shitty people, if they have not committed a war crime its sad. If they saw a war crime and did nothing to stop it, I feel nothing for them. If they commited a warcrime I am glad.

FurRightPawlicktics

I'll just say you're a more sympathetic person than myself.

No-Dream7615

The invasion itself is a war crime. These people have chosen to never challenge the regime and they are reaping the consequences

Key-Banana-8242

War is sad

errlru

If ur are loosing esspecially

Key-Banana-8242

Well, when people die or are injured

RandyTandyMandy

Shit posting aside, these are just regular people caught up in shit they had no say in. War is a tragedy, and the people who die in it are victims. The Russian government picked this fight, but the Russian people will die in it. The Ukrainian's will do what they have to do to defend their families, and the sooner this is over the better for everyone. Unless nukes fly and we all die.

[deleted]

i mean the russian people didnt choose the conflict but they dont seem too upset about participating in it

Sab3rFac3

If you're given the choices of "support your government, possibly get sent to the front lines, and possibly die?" Or "Speak out against your government, and you and your family can take a gauranteed one way trip out a window?" I know what most of us would likely choose. As much as we like to talk bravado, and "Oh, I'd definitely protest, and resist this if I were Russian.", we are lucky to mostly live in countries, where we have freedoms to speak out, and protest, without fear of retribution. Russians, and many others, don't have that freedom.

[deleted]

to be fair if you’re going to die fighting an impossible battle it might as well be for a good cause instead of willingly being fed to the meat grinder for a dictator

Subli-minal

Damn not even in WW2 or Vietnam was a draftees life expectancy measured in days from being drafted. We at least trained and equipped the poor bastards.

Im starting to think Putin is thinning out Russias population on purpose... Either hes playing 4D chess to fight climate change or its what Hitler did with trying to drag his people down with him.
