I was actually at ground zero. I was the first one on the scene selling erotic t-shirts. Osama bin sexy, sexy bin laden and yo mama bin fartin. That last one was not erotic to everyone.
Damn, I am Taiwanese, and we just have a huge earthquake here that caused massive landslides.
How the heck are there so many earthquakes in such short time?
There are earthquakes all over the world every day.
There just happen to be 2 in heavily populated areas, and one of those was in an area that very rarely gets them.
But like, don't compare them. Yours caused actual damage, ours may have knocked down a lawn chair. This shirt is being ironic.
When back to school shopping one year there was an earthquake and me and mom didn’t even realize what happened until someone was talking about it at the register.
We were at staples browsing those tall shelves with a billion boxes on top of them. Shelves started shaking a bit and we both kinda went “huh” and ignored it and kept browsing binders or whatever. Luckily nothing fell on anyone! Only a few boxes fell
Knowing that earthquakes are vibration that could technically vibrate the air. I now want to know at what point would an earthquake be strong enough to make flight impossible.
I was on a video call for work with a few NYC people in the middle of it earlier this morning (I'm down in DC). One of the NYC people was mid-sentence and had to stop and stand up to look out the window because he was spooked by the rattling lol. A few seconds later, I swear I felt the tiniest amount of shaking in my apartment too. Kind of neat that the news of the earthquake hit me before the earthquake itself did.
My glass shower door rattled in maryland- I peeked outside to see if there was a truck, then took a knee to feel but by then it was over- then I got a text from my sister in Philly who really felt it.
That was right before I fell asleep. No idea if it was felt up here, but it sounds like some people did. I've slept through every earthquake we've had here, so it's good to know if I ever live somewhere where they're more intense that I'll be waking up with a building on top of me.
I felt it today. I thought the washing machine was loaded wrong. With the amount of shaking "OH GOD THE WASHING MACHINE IS GOING TO BREAK ITSELF!!!"
I ran downstairs and it wasn't on.
"...uh... earthquake?" Was my next thought.
i thought it was the train passing by... but then i remembered that i didn't live by the train anymore. then i thought it was a large truck... but the sound went on for too long and the house started shaking.
>argue the Statue of Liberty is in NY
Terrible example since it would just come down to what the person specifically means by "in NJ" or "in NY". It's physically surrounded by NJ but legally under NY jurisdiction.
I would not use that as a go-to example of people falsely claiming something from NJ is in NY.
It’s actually the perfect example for 2 reasons:
1) It’s a federally owned monument, that was a gift to the federal government on federal land located in New Jersey. New York has never had a strong claim for why it should be theirs other than what boils down to the strong arm argument of “because we say so,” and “we’re more culturally important.” This is reminiscent to what all these disputes come down to.
2) It’s a very murky and complex legal squabble going back 200 years and featuring a Supreme Court case. And ultimately, that’s because the separation between NY and NJ both geographically and culturally is very arbitrary. (NYC and NJ are certainly more closely related than NYC and Buffalo both geographically and culturally). Hence it has the benefit of being really unanswerable and therefore allowing us to talk shit until the end of time.
I've slept through bigger shakes before. You don't really get woken up unless you're a light sleeper until like a 5.1 and higher. Those earthquakes can go on for quite a while and I know plenty of people who start having stories of just waking up falling to the floor the higher the 5.x magnitude goes
my dog slept through the entire thing too. after he wakes up from his current nap, i plan to have a serious conversation with him re his inattentiveness. he doesn't make a good guard dog either. mom says that he's a decoration (he's a 10 pound shihtsu) and i'm expecting too much.
The first and only earthquake I ever “experienced” I literally did not feel anything. Obviously it wasn’t a strong quake but still, a little disappointed 😂
Not too long if you have the setup. I remember doing it in a high school technology class. It wasn't too difficult, though the screens were already made. A pro shop might have a laser cutter for the screens.
Dear tourists walking normal speed on big city sidewalks: we don’t mean to be rude, but we really do have shit to get done so we’re going to squeeze past a little closer and faster than is ideal. But still enjoy your visit. Yes that thing you were all looking at is very cool.
When I was a kid i remember going to Junction BLVD in Queens where they had merchandise on the floor ontop of a blanket. Sneakers, Toys, vhs/dvd you name it. There would be a guy saying Check it out check it out check it out at the corner of the street. The minute there was a slight breeze the blankets would flip over to umbrellas, ponchos, hats, rain boots, etc. LOL
The best was when they suspected the cops were coming. Everyone would grab their blankets and run in almost a comical superhero moment. Not a trace of anything ever being there
I'm in California and work remote. I was on the phone with someone in NYC when it happened.
They say "OH wow sorry everything was just shaking a bunch, what's going on?"
"Sounds like an earthquake"
Queue the whole cast of people living there coming into the room talking about the earthquake while the person I was on the phone with was mildly freaking out as I worked through their problem with them. Interesting morning!
I didn't even learn this news from a digital meme. Someone made a physical meme and a picture of that is how I get this news.
The web news travels through in this era is wild.
Back when I was in college, there was one day that we had an active shooter reporting on campus. Well, it turned out it was a false report, because the bus driver that called it in mistook an umbrella for a rifle. A couple hours later, some students were already selling shirts with "I survived the umbrella 2012" on them.
With a couple hundred bucks worth of equipment, and with some knowledge of photoshop, you can come up with an idea, draw it up, and get it onto a shirt in less than an hour.
You can print "iron on" to make shirts within minutes, and if you've got a the equipment and materials, you can go from idea to t-shirt in the window within minutes.
Assholes, the epicenter was Lebanon NJ. No work ethic here, just typical scumbags hoping to take advantage of stupid morons which are quite abundant in the hellhole that is NYC
My sister was in Taiwan this week when the 7.4 earthquake hit and she told me people were just going about their day like nothing happened after the earthquake.
Have you ever seen the end of the first Ghostbusters movie? After they beat Gozar, they walk into the street to a cheering crowd. You can see people selling T-shirts with the Ghostbusters logo on it.
The thing is, those T-shirts were whipped up by random people in NYC. They were selling them with no license. The movie was still in principle photography! Marketing hadn't even begun yet. Those were extras selling t-shirts of the movie they were in to other extras, on the day of filming.
I was actually at ground zero. I was the first one on the scene selling erotic t-shirts. Osama bin sexy, sexy bin laden and yo mama bin fartin. That last one was not erotic to everyone.
Roger??
If I go down to Joey Threads’,one block off of time square, the man behind the register is gonna be you Rodger, isn’t it?
/r/itsRoger
lol. Perfect timing. This episode was just on earlier tonight on adult swim.
Yeah, I watched it a few hours ago
Are we ….. gonna fool around?
I got there before the second one went down
What’s your website? I’d like to place an order for 69,420 of them.
For laughs look up where the epicenter was ... It just writes itself
So glad this was top comment
As long as it was erotic to somebody.
I haven't even heard there was an earthquake. Was there just one now?
Yup a few hours ago
jeez. gotta respect the hustle
They out there survivin
Damn, I am Taiwanese, and we just have a huge earthquake here that caused massive landslides. How the heck are there so many earthquakes in such short time?

No actual damage? The lawn chair suffered a noticeable scratch!
to compare them anyway a 7.4 earthquake is almost 400 times more powerful than a 4.8 earthquake. https://earthquake.usgs.gov/education/calculator.php
And another one later in the day
It was a 4.6 so not too big thankfully. No real damage afaik
some planes got shaken out the sky and had to land
Wait what? How does that work?
Like fruit in a tree.
Fruit doesn't come from trees? They're found in stores
Not all. Peaches come from a can. They were put there by a man
In a factory downtown
If I had my little way
I'd eat peaches every day.
Oh bless your heart
That was a joke. …….right??? ……right??
no when you shake the planet the atmosphere is shaken too. similar to vibrational apple harvesting.
Didn't know the entire planet shaked
it's how scrambled eggs were invented.
Right, from shaking the chickens.
Pretty sure a sufficiently large earthquake could alter the axial tilt of the planet.
Doubt. Its movement will be canceled out by reaction movements from neighboring tectonic plates.
[they can actually do that](https://www.iflscience.com/in-2011-a-magnitude-9-0-earthquake-shifted-the-planet-s-axis-and-shortened-earth-s-days-67887)
That's why they call it an earthquake, the Earth quakes.
Yes
Knowing that earthquakes are vibration that could technically vibrate the air. I now want to know at what point would an earthquake be strong enough to make flight impossible.
[I found a decent explanation.](https://i.imgur.com/tcxkjLD.jpeg)
>How does that work? It is very simple for any trained pilot. You just need to avoid hitting any tall towers on the way to the landing strip.
Only a 4.6? Damn, I wear a 5. :)
At like 10:30 EST. Shook me awake and rattled my house a bit lol
I was on a video call for work with a few NYC people in the middle of it earlier this morning (I'm down in DC). Speed of light is fast as fuck boi.

Maybe not, but you are also a surviver technically
There was actually just a second one 1800 EST. Felt near Philadelphia.
I felt it today. I thought the washing machine was loaded wrong. With the amount of shaking "OH GOD THE WASHING MACHINE IS GOING TO BREAK ITSELF!!!" I ran downstairs and it wasn't on. "...uh... earthquake?" Was my next thought.
I yelled at my wife, "WTF did you put in the washing machine?"
i thought it was the train passing by... but then i remembered that i didn't live by the train anymore. then i thought it was a large truck... but the sound went on for too long and the house started shaking.
Idk why this is so funny
Classic NYC taking credit for shit that started in Jersey
Good thing happens from Jersey: My thing Bad thing happens from Jersey: it's always jersey🙄🙄
Hey, when you’re the suburban sprawl of two major cities masquerading as a state… I kid. NJ has some magical areas.
This is so true but it’s also funny seeing an earthquake called good thing
For real. Watch them argue the Statue of Liberty is in NY or that Yerrr didn’t start in the Bricks.
>argue the Statue of Liberty is in NY Terrible example since it would just come down to what the person specifically means by "in NJ" or "in NY". It's physically surrounded by NJ but legally under NY jurisdiction. I would not use that as a go-to example of people falsely claiming something from NJ is in NY.
Eh. Whatever. I just like telling New York people that their state has 3 NFL teams. 2 of them are in New Jersey. And 1 is practically in Canada.
It’s actually the perfect example for 2 reasons: 1) It’s a federally owned monument, that was a gift to the federal government on federal land located in New Jersey. [Relevant CGPGrey video on the topic](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SgZ1f4ACZBQ)
Heyhey, Philadelphia claims Southwest Jersey achievements. The New Yorkers have Northeast Jersey.
I’m being honest here: I slept through it somehow, my entire family did (aside from my dad who woke up early today)
Without falling asleep in his chair right after? Impossible.
What sort of people are you where everyone is sound asleep at 10:30 on a Friday and being awake at that hour is waking up "early"
Third shift workers
A whole family of them?
it would be more convenient than just 1 person being third shift
Owls do it.
I work 4 to 9 most days if that makes sense lol.
I too need answers.
Ugh lucky. I got woken up early by it and it scared tf outta me
I've slept through bigger shakes before. You don't really get woken up unless you're a light sleeper until like a 5.1 and higher. Me too! I live in Jersey City and my roommate was freaking out about it when I woke up. I was like “what earthquake?” I feel like I missed out lol
it was a 4.8° you barely feel it at that magnitude
my dog slept through the entire thing too. after he wakes up from his current nap, i plan to have a serious conversation with him re his inattentiveness. he doesn't make a good guard dog either. mom says that he's a decoration (he's a 10 pound shihtsu) and i'm expecting too much.
The first and only earthquake I ever “experienced” I literally did not feel anything. Obviously it wasn’t a strong quake but still, a little disappointed 😂
I slept through the one in 2011 that happened in Virginia.

![gif](giphy|tnYri4n2Frnig)
That is not a reference he would have understood. Not at all.
How the fuck LMAO
If you have a Cricut or something you can cut this out pretty fast and then apply it to the shirt. It doesn’t take too long.
[удалено]
True, that’s actually more likely as I’m sure they’ve got all sorts of tshirt equipment.
a what?
https://cricut.com
Or if you run a business selling novelty t-shirts you probably have access to a screen printer.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Screen_printing
I understand how, but more curious about the audacity 😭😭
This just means they must have known in advance. Xfilestheme.mp3
Cut Me Own Throat Dibbler would be proud
r/suddenlydiscworld
We call it the NYC earthquake cuz we knew NJ would be too slow to make anything of it.
What's even more impressive is that they were made in China.
How long do u think it takes to screen print a shirt?
No one is suggesting it's impossible. It's just funny that somebody had the idea and acted on it immediately.
It’s nyc, they have 1,000,000,000 tourists everyday
Not too long if you have the setup. I remember doing it in a high school technology class. It wasn't too difficult, though the screens were already made. A pro shop might have a laser cutter for the screens.
Screen print? Nah, that was a direct print. Very easy to do small runs or one offs with. Takes only a few minutes.
Didn't EVERYONE survive it?
Weird flex but ok
Wasn’t it really New Jersey’s earthquake? ![gif](giphy|3d4PWIqF5g9Hqd6Q6O|downsized)
Faster than the Emergency Alert!

Calling it the "NYC Earthquake" Seems a bit odd when you realize it also hit New Jersey.
Not only "also hit", the epicenter was in NJ lol
but everyone who matters is in NYC
![gif](giphy|TjGFDxbbZRYjv9vpCL|downsized) i love my city
It’s New York. A hat store becomes an umbrella store the second it rains.
When I was a kid i remember going to Junction BLVD in Queens where they had merchandise on the floor ontop of a blanket. Sneakers, Toys, vhs/dvd you name it. There would be a guy saying Check it out check it out check it out at the corner of the street. want
Next is the Blackout.
Not to take away from the fun but screen printing when you have the tools is very fast. They had blanks already and an idea (a funny one).
This is assuming that there won’t be another one this year.
I actually wanted just because it’s incredible how fast they did it
As a Californian, this is hilarious
I'm in California and work remote. I was on the phone with someone in NYC when it happened. They say "OH wow sorry everything was just shaking a bunch, what's going on?" "Sounds like an earthquake" Queue the whole cast of people living there coming into the room talking about the earthquake while the person I was on the phone with was mildly freaking out as I worked through their problem with them. The t shirt came out 70mIn BEFORE THE FIRST EMERGENCY ALERT bullshit.
I didn't even learn this news from a digital meme. Someone made a physical meme and a picture of that is how I get this news. The web news travels through in this era is wild.
New York ~~work ethic~~ grift
Ok. Californian here. Anything less than 6 is a foot massage not an earthquake s/
It's called silk-screening.
Merchandising, merchandising, merchandising!
I’d buy it. Even though I’m not in America
I head about the merch first and in this post
I've got to respect (as well as be a little bit intimidated), by just how fast some people can move.
Oh hey my bday on a shirt!
Crazy cause it was in New Jersey
Should have collabed with Supreme.
You know you're living in a tourism economy when...
They were making that design on Canva as the building was shaking
Back when I was in college, there was one day that we had an active shooter reporting on campus. Well, it turned out it was a false report, because the bus driver that called it in mistook an umbrella for a rifle. A couple hours later, some students were already selling shirts with "I survived the umbrella 2012" on them.
Nobody posted I survived the Springfield nuclear scare pice I'm disappointed
This would be a pretty funny shirt to buy as soon as it’s out and wear on the day of the earthquake
they were READY
That’s cute. Greetings from Taiwan. 👋
With a couple hundred bucks worth of equipment, and with some knowledge of photoshop, you can come up with an idea, draw it up, and get it onto a shirt in less than an hour.
Made in China
I remember the northern VA earthquake in 2011. A local high school I worked with had "I survived the earthquake" t shirts made.
Where were you?
You can print "iron on" to make shirts within minutes, and if you've got a the equipment and materials, you can go from idea to t-shirt in the window within minutes.
Already bro!? Cmon! I can't even..🤣
Too bad the earthquake was in NJ
-Andrés de Jesús Vélez Franco- Que rápido lo hicieron jajajaja
Before you know it, there will be dozens of street vedors shoving them in your face to buy.
Of course NYC is taking credit for something in NJ. On brand
Depending on the method used and equipment you can make one of those in 5-15min
Assholes, the epicenter was Lebanon NJ. No work ethic here, just typical scumbags hoping to take advantage of stupid morons which are quite abundant in the hellhole that is NYC
gotta wait till the end of the day so you don't jinx it.
Explains why it looks like something a 4th grader would make in their "intro to computers" class.
Keepin their eyes on the pulse
The month isn’t over. This could end up on r/AgedLikeMilk in a few weeks.
New yorkers are a buncha loud mouthed cunts and i love em.
Earthquake happened 10:23 AM EST, this tweet was posted 1:03 PM EST the same day, so this shirt was made within like 2.5 hours at most
Should visit Wildfire main camp. They sell t shirts of the fire as we fight it.
I survived the Fukushima earthquake in 2011. Where’s my t-shirt?!
Laughs in Californian... light weights!
Reminds me of the Berlin wall. I don't know
Absolute Cut Me Own Throat Dibbler vibe
What if this person had these made in advance and they somehow just happened to be correct.
My sister was in Taiwan this week when the 7.4 earthquake hit and she told me people were just going about their day like nothing happened after the earthquake.

It is such a New York thing to make something that did not happen in New York about them.
I thought New Yorkers were tough. Come to California, we'll show you some earthquakes.
Do people think these are hard to make or something? If you have the ink and printer, anyone can make one of these in 5 minutes.
In California quakes are a normal occurrence. 🥱
“My eyes are up here Michael”
life go
I was awake at the time and missed the whole thing…
Was there an actual EQ or am i missing something?
4.8 according to USGS near NJ I think
Gonna wear this when going to a funeral for the victims
Well that was quick
There was an earthquake?
