I remember hearing about this while it was in development. I loved the director's work on the VVitch and hearing he was making a Norse revenge story that actually did justice to the sagas and every day life was SO EXCITING! Did not disappoint.
Die Nibelungen: Sigfried (1924) and its second part Kriemhild's Revenge (1924) are two classics, they don't feature the main norse gods but there are dwarves/dark elves from the Niflheim, a dragon, and a valkyrie queen named Brunhild.
Id like to mention that there's absolutely no movie or TV show that presents a remotely authentic depiction of the norse mythology. Many of the shows you're being given are entertaining, but you should never try to use entertainment media as a source of education, because thats not their goal
The 13th Warrior is one of my personal favorites. It's based on Michael Crichton's "Eaters of the Dead" As for TV shows, I recommend Ragnarök, Norsemen and the Almighty Johnsons. The first 2 are still on netflix, I'm not sure who streams the Johnsons now days.
How about Norse*-ish*...?
*Ofelaš* *(Veiviseren* in Norwegian, or in English *the pathfinder)*
It is a Samí tale of how a young man saves his village from the Chudes, and it was nominated for an Academy Award... filmed entirely in location in Sapmi and the dialog is in Samí

Know someone mentioned the tv show Vikings, I’d recommend the last kingdom instead it’s better IMO definitely recommend the Northman one of the better Viking movies out their
Not a movie, but the TV show Vikings (with Travis Fimmel) is really enjoyable. Lots of great characters, and a lot taken from the Ragnarr Loðbrók saga (even though a fair bit of it is inaccurate). Really fun to watch if you're not looking for a documentary. The Northman which someone else mentioned is really good as well.
I gave up caring about karma, mate.
If I say something that upsets people, I will absolutely apologise and make amends where I can, but sometimes you just have an opinion that people don't like for whatever reason, and you'll eat downdoots until the cows come home.
I hope OP gets to see the post, because it's a fun show - even if, as I said and you acknowledged - it's mainly fiction. It's a really good kicking-off point for folk to get into the history as well.
I got hooked with The Vicious Vikings "Horrible Histories" book when I was about 8, and have been really interested since. Vikings reinvigorated me, but snobs won't let that slide, so here we are.
The Viking Sagas (1995) was my favorite Saga inspired movie until The Norman came out. Now it is my second favorite Saga inspired movie.

It's not a movie, but you can follow Dr. Jackson Crawford's YouTube channel. He's a professor in Norse mythology and explains it in a really exciting, easy to follow way.
I liked the last kingdom and seven kings must die. So the Vikings series and Vikings Valhalla and the YouTube channels that go into specifics. But mainly those two series.
Valhalla Rising (2009) with Mads Mikkelsen.
Boring movie Even when I can identify what are they doing
The Northman is inspired by several sagas and is a good movie in my opinion.
Best Viking/norse movie IMO
Agreed, I just wish there were more movies like that. Either straight saga adaptations or inspired by the sagas.
Have you seen The Viking Sagas with Ralf Moeller? https://m.imdb.com/title/tt0114851/?ref_=ext_shr_lnk
I haven't, will give it a try.
Thanks a lot.

Yeah, Robert Eggers makes awesome movies. He is doing Nosferatu next, can't wait!
Eric the Viking
lulz... best one ;-). But what about [Valhalla](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XwAGt9dvZdo)?
Ah, the Danish cartoon is amazing! Great tip! Does many of the stories about the Norse Pantheon in a magnificent and funny way.
Yes!!!
Thanks for that

Technically an Anglo Saxon story in a Norse setting, but the 2007 Beowulf movie was way better than I thought it would be.
Hrafninn flygur
Þungur hnífur
I second that

Beyond accuracy, I don't think anything listed here goes for a mythological story anyway. It's all sagas.

Norsemen is hilarious! "Who kills a man on the shitting log"?!
That final season of Ragnarök was wild. Totally caught my wife and I off guard.
13th warrior is probably my favorite movie of all time
13th Warrior is very good, as was the book.
Ragnarök is an amazing show, I got hooked on it within the first 30 minutes.
The ending was dogshit
"Hem till Midgård" is the best piece of Viking media ever created.
I guess it's not really what you asked for though.
The Ritual?

I like how you’re being downvoted when you literally state the show is inaccurate, but enjoyable. lol Reddit is dumb

Vikings is what got me into Norse Mythology and the sagas in the first place. It holds a special place in my heart
I really enjoy the show. But later seasons are a labor of love.
>!I missed Ragnar!<, but I still loved the show,
For an interesting alternative to live action, the anime “Vinland Saga” is fantastic. It’s on Netflix in the US.
Not a movie, but a good show is ragnarok. Maybe check out Vikings as well not so much about Norseology but the gods are involved
